Did you know that if you bring a Dragon Fang over from another game rather than getting it from the Dragon's Den, Clair will accuse you of cheating and not give you the Rising Badge?

The Dusk Ball was originally planned for Gen 2 as an Apricorn Ball. It was called the Night Ball though. It was replaced with the Fast Ball late in GS's development.
Also, the Love Ball was originally intended to work differently. In the final versions of GS, it (is supposed to) have a higher catch rate on Pokémon of the opposite gender to yours, but originally it was planned to have a higher catch rate on Pokémon favoured by Kurt. These Pokémon were: Sandshrew, Sandslash, Paras, Parasect, Slowpoke, Slowbro, Geodude, Grimer, Muk, Exeggutor, Lickitung, Jynx, Magikarp, Porygon, Elekid, Granbull, Unown, Norowara, Bellossom and Mankey. Interesting to note that Parasect, Exeggutor, Porygon, Elekid, Granbull and Bellossom can't even be found in the wild in GS.
Another funny GS beta fact: the Charcoal was originally named "Sacred Fire". Which explains why the Miracle Seed and Mystic Water have the names they have. It was quickly changed to Charcoal when they remembered what Ho-Oh's signature move was called.
This can't be right, the charcoal is given to you by characters that use Farfetch'd to cut down trees in the forest for charcoal, and is tied into how you get cut.
> Charcoal Kiln
> We let our FARFETCH'D fetch branches for charcoal!
No it's not. You have to go back to their house to get it after you get the Farfetch'd back. It's likely when they changed it to Charcoal they saw the connection with Azalea Town and quickly put it in the Mart and as a gift from the Farfetch'd guy.
it's not inconceivable that they made the held item system, along with most of the items themselves, very early in development before deciding on how you actually get them
didn't know this, love obscure GSC beta info
it's a fricking lie

what the FRICK is a norowara
>norowara
The Voodoo Doll/Jiangshi Pokémon that was scrapped.
cute fricker
Underrated design, should've been in the final game as a steel/ghost type.
From Generations II to IV, there was a type that existed for Curse, Eggs before they hatched, and if a Shadow Pokemon in the GameCube games had a non-shadow move that it couldn't use called ???.
What's notable is that Arceus actually has an unused form for this typing. However, it will still act as though it were a Normal type since Arceus' coloration is purely aesthetic and it's typing is actually determined by Multitype.
They really should have given this palette to the Super Arceus in Legends
If a Smeargle becomes a pure Flying type using Conversion, then Roost, it also becomes a ??? pokemon
>Trying to cheat like that
Bitch, you are a cheater yourself who got your position through nepotism. Now shut up and let me suck your breasts, I mean, shut up and give me my badge.
Did you know that there's a secret house in Azalea Town called the Azalea Whirlpool House? There have been many sightings of it by players, but no-one knows how to spawn it and cannot remember what is in there.
Secret Cianwood Tentacool
If you beat cheren without taking any damage during the tutorial battle, he has extra dialogue.
Gen 4 wonderguard can be bypassed by fire fang, and the highest difficulty AI knows and can take advantage of this.
Ghost fog
>If you beat cheren without taking any damage during the tutorial battle, he has extra dialogue.
just checked this, it's not true
It's also on cheren bulbapedo page
Dumb psyop, even more moronic considering it could've been more believable if you picked something like Cherrygrove or Goldenrod with access to sea but you've chosen a landlocked town
Masuda has already addressed this - it was supposed to be removed from the game due to it not looking right and making sense with the map, but the data was left on the cartridge by mistake.
>Masuda has already [FANFIC]
guy, these games have been disassembled
This has also already been addressed - AWH is not in every single cartridge that was released. It is in select copies of the game.
Yeah its like the dragon girl with Inteleon from goldenrod, its only in very specific cartridges
Likely some people really saw it yet it was possible only on some cartridges. Likely corrupt copies though. Entering the house would probably softlock the game.
Shut up
You're just jealous that you've never seen the AWH because your cart didn't have it on there
ok and there's also a teapot orbiting the planet mars. its just so small and far away you can't see it, but believe me it's there
and then once someone somehow gathers every single cartridge and fails to find AWH in any of them the narrative is going to switch to
>uhm... ACTUALLY the chip that stores AWH is specially designed to degrade after a certain date so it's impossible to find now
Not only have they been disassembled, but the original source code leaked out, too.
Yeah, you can easily prove this is a lie thanks to the disassembly
https://github.com/pret/pokegold
Look for any mention of it in the code. Use the search bar. It doesn't exist. You can't lie about hidden content in these games anymore because literally every single piece of code has been picked apart and documented.
This takes me back to the days of that "buriedalive" creepypasta which claimed cutscenes in RBY were Adobe Flash animations (.swf) and somehow people actually believed it. Without a complete disassembly it was harder to disprove (even though it's so stupid it should have been obvious)
You expect someone who came up with such a dumb lie understand how things work lol
>"buriedalive" creepypasta which claimed cutscenes in RBY were Adobe Flash animations (.swf)
I heard .png for the textures, not .swf. Were there different versions floating around at some point?
Cyndaquil originally was a one-stage Ice-type Pokemon before getting repurposed into a Fire-type starter instead of Honooguma (that was repurposed into Teddiursa)
Because it wouldn’t fit the zodiac
Gogoat actually had a different shiny pre-release than it did when X and Y came out.
Thank god they changed it, the new one is far better
In GSC, the nurse in Fuchsia City PC is the only nurse in the game that looks different from others
In HGSS, the pond behind a PC in Cherrygrove generates different encounters depending on which side of the pond are you on. If you're on Cherrygrove City side, the pond contains sea Pokemon like Tentacool, but if you enter it from route 31 you will only find fresh water Pokemon like Poliwag
>In HGSS, the pond behind a PC in Cherrygrove generates different encounters depending on which side of the pond are you on
Big if tru3
It's true, the pond is halfway between Route 30 and Cherrygrove City.
What I find weirder though is that there's a small patch of land at the end of the pond with headbutt trees that is completely in GSC. It was a nice touch to make the pond accessible in HGSS.
Here's Route 30 so you can see it better.
Neat
Apparently, in Ruby and Sapphire, if you trade a Pokemon that knows Dive prior to going to Steven's House, you can skip going there entirely. Beating the League and reading Steven's Letter for Beldum afterwards has an added part about taking Dive's HM as well, and there will be two balls on Steven's table. In Emerald, this was changed so you have to do the stuff at the Space Center first.
Haven't tried this out yet but I suppose I'll try that out when I have the time.
In Red and Blue, it's possible to softlock the game by using up all the money you can possibly obtain before entering the Safari Zone, making it inaccessible and the game unable to progress without the false teeth item.
In Yellow, this is remedied by allowing you to enter for free with one ball if you have no money. There's a whole series of new text from the entrance clerk initially refusing then relenting.
Can't you farm pay day?
you have no Meowth, no Pokeballs and no money to buy them, your actions?
trade over a meowth from another game
At that point you could just say "use Stadium to move sellable items into the game"
Speaking of which, it's not that obscure, but if you do this, you can get access to Saffron early.
Only if you have it, Meowth is blue only and you may have used/gotten rid of your only Payday TM.
It's a lot easier to not get locked, but it is possible.
Kadabra is the only Pokemon that evolves even while holding an Everstone.
Was this because of that lawsuit? Now that it's no longer a thing, will Everstone work on Kadabra again?
The lawsuit only affected the TCG IIRC.
It's probably just a bug that they never bothered to fix. The everstone works in GSC, and in Gen III there's *another* bug that causes all four of the original trade evolutions to lose their held item no matter what when traded, and then evolve anyway.
Damn you learn something new everyday
In GSC if switching Daylight Saving Time would lead to an in-game date change, Mom will refuse to switch it by claiming she lost the instruction bookelet
Switching Daylight Saving Time will cause an npc from address book to call you instantly with 50% probability
Immunity is one of many moves and abilities that appeared in the TCG before the games. Snorlax from Jungle had it in the Japanese version; in English, it was called Thick Skinned.
After Immunity was introduced in the games in Gen 3, the English TCG still renamed it, but as Thick Skin until Gen 6. Even Pokémon who can't have it in the games such as Roselia, Persian, and Raticate have it in the TCG. In Persian's case, this may be because Immunity in the TCG prevents all special conditions, not just poison, and thus overlapped with Limber, which didn't appear in the TCG until Gen 8.
mom's already dead
I'm sorry to read this, anon. May her rest in peace.
I thought this would be a neat thread about obscure trivia but instead it’s just betagays posting their moronic fanfics and speculation. Figures.
The only fanfic so far has been the Azalea whirpool house moron
The only speculation is Erika being originally a Ghost-type trainer (it's wrong because it doesn't take into account that sprites are often mirrored which led to her appearing to wear her kimono wrong, basicallty a minor oversight)
In GSC Will's chamber is Ice-themed even though he's a Psychic-type scpecialist. The leak of Spaceworld 99 demo has finally shone the light on his curiosity - several months before the release Will didn't exist yet and Lorelei was supposed to reside in that chamber. She's also received a brand new sprite that was used as a base for Karen's sprite. Considering the beta was built in August and the game was released in November, this makes Will and Karen very late additions
So then who was in Karen's spot?
Giovanni, who has also received an updated sprite before being scrapped.
>Neo Team Rocket is playing "Where In The World is Giovanni"
>turns out he's just hiding with the E4.
We can only speculate what the original plot was. The only thing that is clear is that Giovanni willingly going into exile and Silver being his son is fricking bullshit
no fricking way
I'm still weirded out and how Agatha and Lorelei were just made to frick off forever and have pretty much never appeared on anything at all ever again.
It's really strange that Agatha never came back considering she had a big role in the manga with professor oak.
the manga is a different beast but in any case, her connection to Oak was from the games too.
I like to think Lorelei became pregnant with my child and retired, sorry for making you guys worried
Agatha was mentioned in photo at Kurt's house and Lorelei got her ending in FRLG
>Agatha was mentioned in photo at Kurt's house
Yes, but that's part of her "backstory" as
just mentioned. It's not "What's Agatha doing after she dropped from the E4?".
>and Lorelei got her ending in FRLG
Kind of the same as with Agatha. It's certainly something, but it's still not "what's Lorelei up to after she retired?".
>What's Agatha doing after she dropped from the E4?
dead
>what's Lorelei up to after she retired?
she said she's protecting the island now
>FRLG
>canon
Pick one
You missed the memo about all games are canonical. The games you place create the version of the Pokemon universe you play in. For instance:
>R/SS/AS/Pt/W/2/X/US/Sw/V is a universe
>B/C/E/Pt/W/2/Y/M/Sw/V is a universe
All the games are canon and the only rule for what constitutes a universe is how you can't mix BW and B2W2. Those have to match for coherency.
>he thinks canon is defined by labels put on the product by sales department
No anon, canon is defined by people who worked on the project and how much effort they put in it
If she was a contemporary of Prof. Oak, then she died pretty early.
No, she died a normal death. Oak is living an abnormal life because he is slowly feeding off of the souls of every child who has and uses a Pokedex.
He is currently set at 47 in the time of Kanto games.
No, that's just when he stopped aging. He predates the events of PLA by at least 50 years, he just doesn't like to discuss it.
>Oak is 47
>team rocket minions are about 17
>player is 10-18
Are we sure 1 year in pokemon world is the same as 1 year IRL? Maybe the use a different time range
It would have been nice to get some info on Agatha in HGSS, but i think FRLG wraps up Lor
It's implied that Lorelei retired to protect Pokemon on Four Island.
Agatha is legit creepy, there's no indication of what happened to her. For all we know, the old bat died.
I always wondered why the psychic e4's room was iced themed
>Spaceworld 99 demo
>He actually believed the clout chasing rom hacker that conjured up a "beta" to get clicks
Oh boy it's this moronic shit again
You are more moronic than people who fall for prerelease leaks
Oh boy he's the same moron as the other one.

Worried your patreon bux will dry up if people realize youre a fraud?
I'm worried you might actually be moronic and not just a stupid troll.
>Charmeleon was gonna have an alt-evo in gen 4 called Lizargun that would be a "comp" Pokemon, meaning it'd likely be a fusion of multiple Charmeleons somehow like Magneton and Dugtrio.
>Deino is the only Pokemon whose English name goes in perfect alphabetical order.
>Originally, visual glitches in Pokemon X and Y spawned Pokemon that were monochrome in color, causing people to think that this was a second kind of rare Pokemon like Shinies.
>There are only three Bonsly cards in the entirety of the Trading Card Game, and only one of them is in English, as the other two are Japan only as promotion for the Lucario movie.
>If you were to black out after skipping May at Rustoboro in Emerald and ending up back at Petalburg, she'll actually show up at Briney's house, making the encounter unskippable.
>The credits music for Gen 2 and Canalave City share the same melody.
>Charmeleon was gonna have an alt-evo in gen 4 called Lizargun that would be a "comp" Pokemon, meaning it'd likely be a fusion of multiple Charmeleons somehow like Magneton and Dugtrio.
They fricking love that piece of flame shit
>Charmeleon was gonna have an alt-evo in gen 4 called Lizargun that would be a "comp" Pokemon, meaning it'd likely be a fusion of multiple Charmeleons somehow like Magneton and Dugtrio
horse shit
Wow anon, such impressive critical thinking skills, what gave it away?
I bothered to look this up and anon wasn't bullshitting.
>Also, yeah, LIZARGUN is totally a thing.
>This internal spreadsheet of Pokedex information includes exactly one Pokemon that isn't in the final games. Its name, Lizargun or Lizargan is clearly a reference to Charmeleon (Lizard) and Charizard (Lizardon).
>Like both, it's known as the Flame pokemon. More bafflingly, it has the "COMP" form, which is shared only by Pokemon that consist of combined things: Dugtrio, Magneton, Exeggcute, Weezing, Metagross, Combee, Cherubi, and Probopass*.
>All other data seems to be placeholder.
The person who put this out did make a big misunderstanding though:
>I have absolutely no explanation for this. I find it hard to believe that "multiple charizards/charmeleons combine to form a big gun" was under serious consideration as a Pokemon, but what else could this be?
The name's in Japanese, so you can just look it up and "gun" (軍) (Pronounced more like "Goon") means "Army." So it's "Lizar Army," which is definitely a believable name for a comp Pokemon of Charmeleon akin to Magneton or Dugtrio.
Damn I wanted a Charizard/Gun hybrid that was Fire/Steel. Probably too spicy for a CERO A rated game though.
I'm guessing from the 'COMP' tag that it was going to be a multi-headed Charizard - basically a hydra. that would have been badass.
That's almost definitely intended to be the English "gun" and not Japanese "軍" - the later would be written as グン, but the name is ガン
The worst thing about this is that both a squad/multiple head case and having guns could be viable.
It's incredibly common for names of characters in children's franchises to use katakana.
It's not about writing method, it's about the reading
グン sounds like "goon" while ガン sounds like "gun"
Could also be Lizargon, honestly
to be clearer, グン is gu-n, while ガン is ga-n
the latter is what lizargun uses, and is how they would transliterate the english word - e.g. bullet seed, "seed machine gun", タネマシンガン, ta-ne-ma-shi-n-ga-n
then it would be ドン like lizardon (リザードン, ri-zaa-do-n)
sorry, gon would be ゴン, like ドラゴンタイプ do-ra-go-n ta-i-pu
are only three Bonsly cards in the entirety of the Trading Card Game, and only one of them is in English, as the other two are Japan only as promotion for the Lucario movie.
Is there a reason for this? Kadabra has not appeared on a card since 2003
There shouldn't be.
The Kadabra thing has been resolved too by now.
>Is there a reason for this?
Because "baby pokemon" as a mechanic has been phased out of the TCG, and the only "Baby Pokemon" to get cards since the early Diamond and Pearl sets are some of the Johto baby mons that each got a card during HGSS block. The main issue with them is that they need some kind of way to evolve into other Basics, and there's no real incentive to actually do so (pic semi-related, why evolve into Electabuzz from a weak 40HP Elekid who then won't be able to evolve into Electivire until the next turn anyway, why not just play Electabuzz as a basic?). The latest ones in HGSS (aside from a single Japan only Pichu) are all incapable of evolving anyway, and have an ability that protects them from damage and effects of attacks while asleep, and also has an attack that puts them to sleep.
The only real exceptions are "baby" Pokemon (Pokemon at their lowest stage of evolution that can evolve into a Pokemon that can breed, but can't breed themselves) that were introduced in the same generation as their evolved form like Riolu, Toxel and Togepi, because the TCG introduced them as Basics and their evolved forms as Stage 1s.
An early Moltres seal refers to it as the leader of the three birds.
Damn, Moltres is quite heavy for a flighted bird.
You didn't specify WHEN she'd die, but I'll reply anyways
Having a Pokemon with Hyper Cutter in Gen III lets you remove a greater area of tall grass when using Cut. Gen IV removed the grass-cutting feature altogether, frick Sinnoh
the ability cute charm has the overworld effect of making you nore likely to run into pokemon of the opposite gender, provided the cute charm 'mon is in the lead of the party.
however, in gen IV specifically, it does this by choosing one of 25 different personality values (basically controls the mon's shininess, nature, gender, among other things), one for each nature, rather than reroll until it finds a shiny of the opposite gender.
what this essentially means is that with the correct trainer ID and secret ID (a hidden value attached to your save used in calculating shininess and furthering the uniqueness of your save), cute charm can boost your odds of finding a shiny in the wild from 1/8192 to something like 1/20.
you don't even need to cheat in order to get the desired TID/SID, since iirc it's determined by your system's date and time when you create your save. it requires pretty good timing and a few third party programs to find the desired TID/SID and help with timing, but attaining them in-game is perfectly doable without hax.
In Crystal only, if a Heavy Ball is thrown at a Tauros, Sunflora, or Kadabra, then a bug will cause the incorrect weight value to be used to calculate catch rate. They will be given the +40 modifier, which only Snorlax is supposed to be given in Crystal.
in the original GSC, if you get the Dragon Fang but throw it away since it's not a key item, are you soft locked unless you trade?
it uses events flags, it doesn't check for the item
No, because the event triggers when you pick up the item in GS, and doesn't involve picking up an item in Crystal.
Base Kyurem has a different battle theme from Reshiram and Zekrom. I say it's obscure because like three YouTube videos even have it.
In early cartridge revisions of B/W, defeating the E4 and returning to Route 1 allows the player to fight Green Cheren on Saturdays.
His party is identical to the repeatable Cheren fight, however he will always have Serperior regardless of the player's starter choice.
Unlike Cheren, Green Cheren is much more brash and outspoken. He was likely removed from later revisions of the game due to his post battle dialogue stating his intense hatred of the LGBT community.
Sounds like an OneyPlays gaslighting story
Wow that's awesome.
Is there something in this thread remotely true?
nope
cope
Despite being mortal enemies, Zangoose and Seviper can breed with eachother due to being in the same egg group
I actually thought the only fake thing in this thread was the Azalea mandela shit but nearly everything is fake
If you Skill Swap Wonder Guard onto a pure Fire type that knows Burn Up, it will become typeless and be immune to all forms of direct damage.
EXCEPT Fire Fang, ironically
Wait, how could Fire Fang hit them? Wonder Guard prevents non-super effective damage and typeless Pokemon have no weaknesses
It does in Gen 4.
It shouldnt. It was a moronic bug thats rumored to be intentional
Remember the the theory about Will and Lorelei being the same person.
It was partially correct since Will was created as Lorelei leftovers algonside Karen.
>rumored to be intentional
We'll know better when decomps gets released but afaik, in Battle Frontier, if you do some Wonder Guard frickery, the game starts spamming you with pokemon with Fire Fang
It's most likely intentional, it prevents people from cheesing with Wondertomb frickery, AND it's something you'd never actually notice because Shedinja with Wonder Guard is already going to die to Fire Fang.
In Crystal if you were to faint in the Dragon's Den before you exit and Clair gives you the Dragon Breath TM, you can technically get two by going to her in her gym then going back to the Dragon's Den.
This should be compiled into a paatebin like for future threads
Guys , I remember this vividly then swear I saw something about it online but then never again.
When I was young playing gsc the route left of the ghost gym once had crazy encounters that wouldn't ever normally be there, I'm almost sure of it.
Anyone know anything about this? I remember reading that online after a certain action the encounters get glitched out but I can't find it anywhere now.
Please help it drives me crazy
Nope, you're just schizophrenic. If it was GS maybe a Snubbull spawn but there's nothing like what you described in the game.
It was GS
I am sure I was seeing 'mons that shouldn't be there
Why snubble?
I was seeing Stanler, unrelated pokemon with the right levels however... I wish I knew.
Wait are you guys serious? Every thing in this thread is fake?
Not everything. You got some fakes like the Azalea house stuff but other stuff is correct.
It's about 50/50
Due to a glitch in Gen 1, stats effected by the badge boosts will increase whenever any stat change effect occurs, but is lost on level up
In FLRG, if you use a specific sequence of e reader cards for the mystery gift house, you can trigger a special battle where you will be challenged by Giovanni, Silver, Gold, Kris, Brendan, May and Wally, but it only affects their sprites and titles. The teams are still based on the e-cards.
I like how the one that sounds like bullshit is the real one. E-Reader is so mysterious anything involving it sounds real...
In FRLG, Lorelei's house gets more Pokemon plushes depending on your E4 clear total.
where does she get the money if she keeps losing?
The League gives her more than she loses.
They definitely decided to add tjis because of all the eumors that involved beating the E4 100 times
Calyrex Dynamaxes blue because it uses its own power and not Eternatus’, whilst the dogs can’t Dynamax because Eternatus is a salty little b***h
The dogs don't Dynamax because they see that power as corrupt/impure since they had to stop Eternatus and rampaging berserk Dynamaxed Pokemon back in their heyday.
Girafarig and Stantler can't learn hyper beam, and it didn't make sense until recently, considering miltank and tauros can learn it no problem
Only the last stage of a Pokémon is supposed to learn Hyper Beam. Girafarig and Stantler finally got evolutions.

>Blue's Raticate died during your fight with him on S.S. Anne. Ironically, his Fearow also dies when you fight him during his Raticate's funeral in Pokemon Tower in Yellow version.
This would've actually been pretty fricking hilarious.
> Ditto is actually a Mew that got really fricked up and forgot how to transform back into Mew
The subtext implies Ditto is really Mew1.5. Or a failed Mewtwo clone. You think they got it right the first time? It’s even found inside the Cinnabar research lab where Mewtwo was created.
>Dataminers have found code for a hidden code that references an unobtainable Pokemon. Its name is "Mew", and people believe it may be the long lost "151th" Pokemon rumored to be in the game.
just nonsense. why would they put a Pokemon in the game if you can't even get it? if it's 151, then why is Mewtwo 150? shouldn't Mewtwo come after Mew?
>This was changed when GF realized that they wouldn't be able to make the Owl Pokemon that they wanted to create, as owls obviously aren't birds.

Denying this and butterfree and venomoth getting swapped is one of the biggest moron detectors i have ever seen. Shit obviously changes during development, you would have to be unfathomably stupid and autistic to believe this wasnt the case specially during gen 1 where everything was convoluted as frick
>butterfree and venomoth getting swapped
h8 u homies
How so? If it was, the only difference would be their sprites.
Pokeman war is real bruv, the king from XY sent his floette to fight in it and they sent her back in a box, that's what prompted him to create the soul sucking machine to bring her back to life. The galar games imply it wasn't just pokemen that fought in it, but humans as well.
That happened thousands of years ago from XY. It seems unlikely that the player character's father would have died in it.
>only one war existed

these videos are the only time I've seen actual obscure facts in a very long time.
These are good, thanks anon
I don't think of this as really being all that weird, but conversation with other people over the years has made me aware that not everyone actually knows about these: Invisible PCs. In first gen there are a bunch of PCs available in the world that are just invisible. The easiest one to access by far is the one in the Celadon Hotel, it's just there. You can walk right up to the ghost computer and use it if you want.
I can vouch for this one, as I used to use the Celadon one all the time after I stumbled upon it accidentally. I suspect it has something to do with that half of the building being literally copy/pasted from the right half of the standard Pokemon Center interior map. It should also be noted that the invisible PC has no collision data, so it's not that the PC itself is invisible so much as the thing was removed but the interaction node was left in place.
Worth it for the reaction image.
Heatran is known as Hellfrog in the west, but is considered wienerroach-themed in Japan.
Heatran's "eyes" are mimicry. They do not change for things such as emotion or sleeping.
Heatran has both male and female versions, but cannot breed at day-care centers.
Heatran's Pokedex entries are extremely mediocre for a Legendary Pokemon. Some interpret this to mean Heatran's status is from human deification. It is extremely powerful in battle regardless.
Heatran has 5 quad resists. This makes it absolutely horrible in Inverse Battles.
Heatran can learn Bug Bite by Move Tutor. This makes it the only one to not be Bug type, in the Bug breeding group, or have a setting of preying on Bug-type Pokemon.
In the anime, a generic character entered the Pokemon League with Heatran. They did not do well.
>Heatran's "eyes" are mimicry. They do not change for things such as emotion or sleeping.
Holy shit I thought you were joking
WHERE ARE ITS EYES
Like Zubat, it has no eyes.
wrong, it's face is all metal

While looking up this image I saw a news story about a Japanese man who dated a wienerroach, and then ate it when it died. Japan is fricking wild.

Almost nothing in this thread surprised me, but all of this took me off guard because I thought you were memeing until I looked it up and confirmed every single mentioned thing
Heatran has got to one of the weirdest Pokemon out there
When I was a kid I'd play Blue so much I could hear the music even when I wasn't playing.
Route 5-6 Underground Path has an inacessible bit at the bottom in Gen 1. Source code leak revealed that an earlier version of this map had a staircase in the middle (leading to the entrance at Route 7 that was ultimately scrapped). Instead of removing the staircase, developers erased the whole row where it was placed, leading to all tiles being shifted up by one tile, freeing space at the bottom (the game engine automatically fills is with tiles currently loaded in memory)
In HGSS, if you try to softlock yourself by releasing all but one of your Pokémon in Cianwood City, a guy in the Pokémon Center will give you a free Tentacool.
Statues at Indigo Plateau have unique text that can't be normally seen because the bottom part of the statue is always blocked by another statue at the bottom
Youngster Joey's Rattata in HGSS has an internal difficulty value of 0, meaning that it has 0 IVs in every single stat and is actually in the bottom percentage of all Rattatas.
Whitney is the only gym leader to have 30 IV Pokémon in her rematch team. Most of her team (including Miltank) have a difficulty value of 200 (corresponding to 24 IVs), but Girafarig and Delcatty have a difficulty value of 250.
It's possible to catch a level 3 legendary bird in LGPE.
In gen 1, Articuno keeps appearing in binoculars even after you caught or KO'd it
Rooms with binoculars have wandering NPCs inside them and it's possible to "freeze them" by holding A when standing next to binoculars
>In gen 1, Articuno keeps appearing in binoculars even after you caught or KO'd it

The Rocket who "guards"/dozes off in front of the building is strange in Yellow version.
That website is a goldmine
Here's another one: in Japanese Red and Green, if you ask Old Man to show you how to catch Pokemon when your party and PC box are full, the game won't let him use a PokeBall during tutorial, causing an endless battle and softlocking it
https://hakuda2.web.fc2.com/wario/poke3/n3.html
Nidoqueen weighs 6kg in jap Red/Green, 60kg from Blue onwards. In the same way, Geodude goes from 2kg to 20kg. Obviously a decimal point error, but I like the website guy's idea that Green Nidoqueen is a plush and Geodude was on a diet
https://hakuda2.web.fc2.com/wario/poke1/k34.html
This one's good. If you try to buy the Mt. Moon Magikarp with a full party/box, it won't let you, but you lose 500 pesos anyway. Talk to him again and he acts as if you bought it, but you lose another 500 pesos every time
There's a hidden graffiti on top of the Celadon Mansion in Crystal only
In Gold and Silver, there's a single odd roadsign where the word "route" is not capitalized
When you run away from Sudowoodo in GSC, it's shown jumping away to the north
Absolutely kino
Sudowoodo deserved less
It's possible to get trapped in Pokemon Mansion if you let the burglar block you behind the table before battling him
PokeFlute still works in gen 2 if you give it a use option through hacking
You can get sandwiched between Cinnabar gym door and a woman in gen 1, pretty hilarious
Everybody knows that Gen 2 has a rudimentary Safari Zone map that can't be accessed. But many people miss the fact that warp to Safari Zone still exists and in fact it's placed right in the wall of Safari Zone gate where the door was supposed to be, and it can still be accessed with walk through walls cheats
https://glitchcity.wiki/Generation_II_Safari_Zone
There's an old Japanese supplementary novel for the series that states that Charizard's maximum altitude is known because they found out that one shit on the top of Mt. Fuji.
That was in the zukan, not a novel.
Suns and Moons and ORAS and RSE were also stated to be apart.
I learned recently that MissingNo. is actually data for some Gen 2 Pokemon. Sneasel being one of them. The leak from 2020 proved it since it was known there was 190 pokemon in-development, but the rest got cut. Since you can still find data supporting this even if you trade some pokemon from gen 2 back to gen 1. This is further supported by the data leak because the gen 2 beta sprites where in the Red/ Blue source.
https://tcrf.net/Pokémon_Red_and_Blue/MissingNo.#MissingNo._List
While it's true that MissingNo are cut Pokemon, neither of them meant to be actual gen 2 Pokemon, their IDs matching IDs of some gen 2 Pokemon is just a coincidence
You can see the beta tiger, baby vulpix and baby meowth. pokemon that were put into the beta of gen 2.
Yes, but no actual gen 2 Pokemon has a corresponding MissingNo in gen 1 that was meant to be exactly the same Pokemon. Even GameFreak themselves didn't have an idea what gen 2 Pokemon were supposed to be, looking at how the entirety of Spaceworld 1997 dex was shelved, and even 1999 prototypes still had oddballs that didn't make the cut, and some Pokemon kept being updated even after release (namely Sneasel and Raikou)
I guess the better way to phrase would be 'these are pokemon that were cut or reworked for later.' Because you can see pokemon that were going to be in gen 1, but were then going to be used for gen 2, like the tiger and the drill squid.
Ugly washed out colors
Why?
Lugia and Ho-oh in Gen 3, and DP only are considered mythical Pokemon because of the ways you can obtain them in Gen 3.
That also means that they are not required for National Dex completion.
Also adding to this, Deoxys is the only Pokemon that loses its mythical Pokemon status in the same generation, just to gain it back in the next generation due to ORAS.
Basically, only in ORAS is Deoxys not considered a mythical Pokemon.
Mythical is a general franchise-wide cathegory.
It was never "lost".
I'm not an ashgay but that's really unlikely, its more likely that he got the info from GF and implemented it.
>I'm not an ashgay but that's really unlikely, its more likely that he got the info from GF and implemented it.
You underestimate how little these people care
Silver being his son was an invention of Pokespe that was picked up by the games.
>its more likely that he got the info from GF and implemented it
He clearly had behind the scenes stuff in the planning of gen2. Bits from the Yellow arc of the manga turned up in the spaceworld beta that never turned up in the actual GS
The Love Ball in G/S/C is supposed improve the catch rate of Pokémon of the opposite gender, but due to a bug it only does it to Pokémon of the same gender.
Gay Pokémon are canon.
Lorelei's home in FRLG will get an additonal pokedoll in it every 25 times you beat the elite four. The limit seems to be 14, but you would need to beat the elite four 350 times to see it.
Using Whirlwind, Roar, or any other method to make the wild Sudowoodo in Gold and Silver flee causes a unique animation showing it's overworld sprite hopping away into the trees to play as soon as the battle ends.
That happens if you run away normally too.
>I came to the thread I didn't intend to read and posted the same stuff other people already posted
When you meet Professor Juniper's father, Cedric Juniper, in Black and White, he'll comment you've seen the pokemon Klink before. He actually has different dialogue if the player has no data for Klink in their pokedex, which is normally impossible, as N uses one in his mandatory battle in Chargestone Cave prior to meeting Cedric.
Hop has dialogue in at least one of his fights for if he uses a move that doesn't affect your pokemon at all.
Moonlight, Synthesis, and Morning Sun were originally powered up when used during Evening, Day, and Morning respectively.
Don't they work like that anymore? Because it sucks.
They all just get powered up by Sunny Day, but since there's no longer a night/day cycle the thing that originally differentiated them is gone
>there's no longer a night/day cycle
what the frick? since when?
It was literally only ever done for johto
Azurill is harder to catch than Marill, and Hariyama is easier to catch than Makuhita. They are literally the only instances where an evo is easier to catch than the pre-evo, and coincidentally they're next to each other in the dex. Their catch rates probably got mixed up at some point, and nobody noticed.
In yellow, in the bottom of the small patch of grass parallel to the bridge in route 24, if you start fishing with an old rod repeatedly eventually a goldeen lv 25-30 will appear, which would be more powerful than misty's lv 21 Starmie, making that fight more easy.
Remoraid's original design made it look more like an actual pistol so they had to tone it down for G/S's release
Apparently Misty and Giovanni were going to be in GSCs E4.
In gens 1 to 3 you could use cut to cut the tall grass.
Everyone knows that, but did you know, if the Pokémon using Cut has the ability Hyper Cutter, it will cut a 5x5 square instead of 3x3?
Mega Gengar, Diglet, Dugtrio, Sandyghast, and Palossand are all immune to Telekinesis because they're physically stuck to the ground.
>From Pokémon Emerald onwards, if a Pokémon with Hustle is in the first place in the party (even if fainted), there's a 50% chance that a Pokémon will be forced to the upper bound of their encounter level range.
Holy frick
>In Generation V, Vital Spirit also prevented a Pokémon from visiting the Dream World before it was shut down.
Game freak is super autistic about preserving its legacy abilities, jesus.
IIRC Vigoroth was the only Pokemon that was completely barred from accessing the Dream World.
I wonder if the insomnia ability had any effect.
Nope. Only Vital Spirit was affected.
Some trainers, including Bugsy, Saturn, Bede, Will, and Grimsley are the only ones including generic NPCs to use pokemon opposite their gender despite a 50-50 split gender ratio
It cam be inferred that it is because they look androgynous or are flaming homosexuals
So what does that mean for Gen II Jasmine and Janine who use male or genderless Pokemon only?
Having a male Leavanny like Burgh is probably more homosexual.
Given that both Janine and Jasmine were changed to be consistent with most leaders in gen 4, I think it can be said that it was an error because of gen 2 crunch time.
Unless you want to entertain the idea that they were straight-washed or that they're different versions of the characters.
IDK what you're trying to say regarding burgh but I do agree that he looks like a homo
According to Bulbapedia some list of trainers in Crystal had Bugsy and Will flagged as female even though they had all male teams in the game. I don't know the particulars, but their HGSS teams might be a result of that.
wouldn't it be gayer to exclisively use pokemon of the same gender?
You'd think that, but pokemon are probably (usually) more friends than lovers, and IRL you see gay guys far more often as accessory friends to women than men
How the frick is Grimsley androgynous?
>Bugsy and Will flagged as female
See
and
I guess the same goes for Bugsy
>How the frick is Grimsley androgynous?
He's not androgynous, but he's kind of flamboyant. That's why fujos love him.
Wasn't Shinjuku Jack directly based on famous Virtua Fighter player Shinjuku Jacky? It may explain why they eventually decided to remove him entirely
Of all those will is the only one that looks like a girl, dude even has hips wider than his goddamn shoulders on his full art.
>>>If you do an entire median of ALL stats the result would be the exact statline of delcatty, for some reason
this is my fave
kys homosexual
In Emerald, there's a Cooltrainer in Victory Road who's Lanturn can use Earthquake.
on this note, RB (but not Y) Lance has dragonite that knows barrier for whatever reason.
he's cosplaying as a mecha
That seems unlikely.
oddish was originally supposed to be grass/ground type
Bulbasaur's Japanese name, Fushigidane, is a pun based on a Japanese phrase that means "strange, isn't it?", there I replied.
There's a rocket scientist who talks about living in Russia in R/B/Y. Frick you.
He was originally a Silph Co. scientist, and he wasn't 'living' there per se. At some point prior to the game, he was sent to work in Silph Co.'s Tiksi Branch in Russia. Tiksi is a real place located pretty much in the middle of nowhere in the frozen northern part of the country, pic related; it's the equivalent of the US Military sending a 'problem' person to be stationed in Antarctica. Dude was so pissed at being forced to work in 'the Russian no-man's land' that he came back, joined Team Rocket, and helped them infiltrate Silph Co. as revenge.
Forgot my pic - here's the location of the real-world Tiksi. I think you can see why it was an unpleasant experience for the dude.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunguska_event
I wonder if the Japanese version had more meaning to the location.
Hey guys, did you know that in terms of male human and female Pokémon breeding, Vaporeon is the most compatible Pokémon for humans? Not only are they in the field egg group, which is mostly comprised of mammals, Vaporeon are an average of 3”03’ tall and 63.9 pounds, this means they’re large enough to be able handle human dicks, and with their impressive Base Stats for HP and access to Acid Armor, you can be rough with one. Due to their mostly water based biology, there’s no doubt in my mind that an aroused Vaporeon would be incredibly wet, so wet that you could easily have sex with one for hours without getting sore. They can also learn the moves Attract, Baby-Doll Eyes, Captivate, Charm, and Tail Whip, along with not having fur to hide nipples, so it’d be incredibly easy for one to get you in the mood. With their abilities Water Absorb and Hydration, they can easily recover from fatigue with enough water. No other Pokémon comes close to this level of compatibility. Also, fun fact, if you pull out enough, you can make your Vaporeon turn white. Vaporeon is literally built for human dick. Ungodly defense stat+high HP pool+Acid Armor means it can take wiener all day, all shapes and sizes and still come for more
Of the in-game trades in both Red/Blue and Leafgreen/Firered, Lickitung MARC/Namezo is the only one to have the same nickname.
GSC to HGSS has so many particulars it isn't worth trying to find a pattern. Like you have ones with same name, trades omited entirely, conflation of different trades getting the species of one with the nickname of another, ones that were different in Japanese but the same name in English...
ORAS keeps the species and name of all in-game trades, but other things like nature, item, and OT number may vary. There seems to be a correction of two trainers having opposite gender names from RS in English however.
BDSP is faithful remake to the point of having even the OT match the original.
>BDSP is faithful remake to the point of having even the OT match the original.
BDSP used a lot of the base code of DP, to the point where it reintroduced bugs that had been fixed in Platinum, the most well known being the Suction Cups/Sticky Hold glitch.
Ditto's scrapped evolution might've been intended to evolve using the Metal Coat
That explains why the Metal Powder exists. Rare items were often introduced in pairs in Gen 2 - Stardust and Star Piece, Tinymushroom and Big Mushroom, etc.
Pokemon Conquest is intended to be a crossover of Pokemon and Nobunaga's Ambition, but instead of using designs from the NA games, the warlords are based on character designs from Samurai Warriors 3. Additionally, the design of Nobunaga's first stage (the one that appears in a few side stories after you complete the main story) inspired the design for a younger Nobunaga in Samurai Warriors 5.
Now I'm imagining if we got a crossover of Pokemon/Suikoden (Water Margin). But then I remember that Spiritomb's dex entry says that it's specifically made of 108 spirits.
One out of three female Azurill evolves into a male Marill before Gen 6
Thrash in Gen 5 will play the tune of the original 1-1 Super Mario theme, and Bastiodon has a Thwomp noise in its cry
The first 3 cipher peons in colosseum actually have a mechanic to make sure you can't catch all 3 shadow pokemon by blacking out after catching one in a battle. Say if you catch quilava from the red one and then black out, the green and blue peons would not have croconaw or bayleef in their teams. this is the only instance where you can change an npcs team by losing
Well, change an npcs team by losing to a different npc
Actually, in pokemon yellow the eeveelution your rival's eevee evolves into is determined by which of the first few rival battles you win or lose
This.
Win first + optional battles = Jolteon
Win first battle but lose or skip optional battle = Flareon
Lose first battle (optional doesn't matter) = Vaporeon
It's a neat way to set the difficulty. If you win both, he'll evolve into the same type, but if you lose the first battle, he'll conclude your starter sucks and evolves into something that's weak to it.
It'd be cool if something like this was done with your rival for all the battles. You only get the one shot basically, and the results will shape how seriously he takes you.
Probably not that obscure, but when put side by side, the box arts for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon form Ultra Necrozma in the middle
Shudo's novels about planning the anime make the setting and premise as bleak as possible, basically making Kanto out to be a destitute land where the only real hope of success is chasing the path of a professional athlete.
From Emerald onwards, Suction Cups and Sticky Hold have the field effect of making fishing easier by getting you more bites. This effect is bugged and does nothing in Diamond/Pearl, but was fixed in Platinum and then, years later, intentionally re-broken for the remakes of Diamond/Pearl.
Wandering lady NPC in Celadon Pokemon Center sometimes walks out of map boundaries
If you use Surf in the boundary between two maps, a copy of current map without event data (but with working map connections) will load instead. Affects gen 2 and in theory gen 1
But where in Gen 2 can you do this? New Bark Town was clearly edited to enable this.
Nowhere on default maps, but there are glitches that allow to alter tiles on the map as you please
We will never get the original pokemon from which Kyurem,Reshiram and Zekron came from
We will, but it'll be non-usable like Eternamax Eternatus.
That hurts
shelly’s and gastrodon were originally designed for gen 3
Chimecho was added later in the RS development, that's why it's after Deoxys in the internal data and no trainer has it, making difficult to find it since it appears in just one place and with 5% encounter rate. This changes in Emerald where one of the Trick House trainers has a Chimecho
>with 5% encounter rate.
2% actually. They only changed it to 5 in ORAS.
In the German translation the move s Fire Punch and Thunder Punch are translated as Feuerschlag and Donnerschlag. However, Ice Punch is translated with Eishieb instead of Eisschlag for an unknown reason.
The move Follow Me is translated as Spotlight (the literal translation would be Folge Mir) and Spotlight is translated as Rampenlicht. Luster Purge is translated as Scheinwerfer (which also means spotlight). Moreover, Throat Chop is translated as Neck Strike and Darkest Lariat is just Dark Lariat in German.
In addition, Freezy Plant had ben translated as Fauna-Statue, but corrected to Flora-Statue in Generation 7.
The move Pound has been translated as Pfund (which means the currency and the weight unit) and was corrected to Klaps (literally: slap) in Gen 8. In the same generation, the translation of Peck was changed from Schnabel (literally: beak) to Pikser (literally: pricker), because Pokémon like Goldeen do not have a beak.
>Pokémon like Goldeen do not have a beak
You're correct he dosent have a beak. He has a horn.
Pic of goldeen included.
Genuinely an accurate representation of the sort of moronation in this thread as a whole.
Bunch homosexuals over analyzing things like beeks and pecks. They don't ever thing about like, yo, fish with horn did peck.
That's what he's saying you moronic shit stirrer
in spanish slam was translated as portazo (door slam) and was only fixed in gen 6 where it became atizar (literally stir)
Ah sweet, a schizo thread
Wasn't one until you showed up.
51737571
>curse homosexualry
FLEE.
The normal base friendship for a Pokémon is 70. For some reason, Luxio has a base friendship of 100, more than both Shinx and Luxray.
Porygon Z is the only fully evolved 3-stage Pokemon you can have at level 1
Couldn't you do it with Wigglytuff?
No. Igglybuff needs high friendship ON LEVEL UP to evolve. So it'd need to be at least level 2. The same goes for Pichu and Togepi.
Huh, I didn't realize it only checks on level up
Not sure if true but i heard someone say that in Pokemon Masters Barry says he wants to fine people so much because he plans to build his own Battle Tower so he can fight he dad there, which i thought was neat.
