Fear of the dark has a bad rep?

      The album, not the song.
They peaked with Number of the Beast anyways, they still made great songs afterwards but NOTB is one of those great albums you can listen in their entirety without skipping a song and still enjoy it.

Powerslave was close but they had to put that shitty instrumental track.

I will never get the NOTB hype. Sure it's got a bunch of all-time classics, but it fricking opens with Invaders, a song so bad they never played it live and opened with Murders in the Rue Morgue on the tour instead. Not to mention Gangland which is literally missing a guitar solo because they forgot to record it, not that it would save the song.

Yup, every one of the classic albums has at least one stinker. But everything up to prayer/fear is pretty damn good. Then it gets spotty, with BNW and life and death being pretty good too, but the last 3 albums have been great. Overall pretty fricking amazing for 44 years of music.

I actually think Seventh Son and SiT are two albums where I wouldn't remove anything. Some tracks aren't as strong as others, and I feel like Seventh Son particularly suffers from the live versions superseding the originals, but there's no Quest for Fire or Gangland on them either.
The reunion era is of course a different beast entirely, I feel like it's mostly all at the very least listenable, but then you also have the lesser tracks on Dance of Death and a few from the last three I can't stand at all. But then AMOLAD for example, it's fine the way it is. Even if it's lengthy and it's almost all in E, it still has that flow to it.

Half of NotB is garbage, their self titled and Powerslave re both much better.

NOTB is deeply flawed and even Harris admits he fricked up the tracklisting and should have included some songs he cut while cutting some of the songs he included.
Now Somehwere in Time and Seventh Son, those are perfect.

Also, pic related is peak Bruce.

This was his best song imo:

NOTB is Overated as frick. Half the songs suck ass while the rest are some of their best, but that's not enough to make the album their best. Killers and somewhere in time is their best.

How are they STILL putting out solid tracks, it's insane. Same with Megadeth and Judas Priest, the new stuff isn't all-time hit material but it's pretty fricking solid.

Bruce's solo career was great, Accident of Birth (album) is a masterpiece, but when he and Adrian got back to IM it all went to hell.

The Final Frontier is meh, The Book of Souls has some good tracks in it but the band's age is very noticeable - it's not just Bruce not being able to produce notes he previously could, as far as I'm concerned DotD is the last album that has actual, listenable solos
