I dunno man I doubt anyone here has one of these things
I'd imagine more comfortable and better looking VR.

      >I'd imagine more comfortable
This is about as light as you can get. Don't really need the headstrap when it's this scale plus the thing's molded based on your face.

      >and better looking VR.
Specs put it about on-level with existing options, it's able to be made way smaller due to advances in lensing, pretty sure. Pricing is the biggest issue.

did you scan your face with an iphone so they can print the custom face seal?

        >This is about as light as you can get
        only for now

Needing controllers and headphones, but probably a great time otherwise.
I can't wait till standalone headsets are the same size as this.

The only thing stopping me from buying this is the face scanning shit.
I don't have an iPhone. I don't want an iPhone. Nobody I know has an iPhone.

Is this actually the only way they accept face measurements? That's gay as hell. Couldn't photogrammetry be good enough?

they're going to make a plush gasket at some point so you don't need a face scan.

        Anonymous

How would this not be cheaper than requiring face scans to make custom units for everyone

          Anonymous

"cheaper" is not the point of the unit.
also their backlight is dim so they need a good seal.

            >also their backlight is dim so they need a good seal.
How and why could they ever make a 'plush gasket' that would replace the custom one then

              Anonymous

mostly so you have a backup gasket that you can put on to show the headset to other people.

simplifying usage and reducing the amount of setup is key to mass adoption and VR growing as a medium

No, no, he has a point.
The standalone meme just permanently stalls out, because the software running on it is not as open to modification.
VR controllers seem especially stale, they've nearly all settled on this default Oculus form factor as far as I can tell, simply because there can be no shakeup from third parties that can pair their controller with the headset and the controller can't be paired with a PC either afaik.
Ideally you should be able to modify as much of the headset as possible as long as you still adhere to the guidelines necessary for its function, but instead you are shepherded from obsolete device to new device.

I'll buy bigscreen in a few generations when it has 16k screens, a decent FOV, and they build your prescription into the optical stack. It's absolutely DISGUSTING that they custom make faceplates for everyone with different models for different IPDs, but they're still israeli enough to expect you to pay extra for an additional lens that ruins the FOV if you wear glasses. No, I'm not getting contacts, you fricking wienersucker.

    Until then, Index is fine.

    >102° FOV
VR will never be good until they fix this shit. Nothing feels "immersive" or "realistic" when it feels like I'm looking through a pair of binoculars.

      Anonymous

I don't see how they can give you ~200° horizontal ever with headstraped displays.
You would need some sort of contact-lens displays for that.

        Anonymous

        Just make the screen bigger?

          Anonymous

The lens would still need to wrap around your head, the distortion would be awful.
Bigger displays alone would not fix this.
