It's not both, what we need is a bunch of modifiers. Hard mode (that isn't just the double damage badge). We need more postgame content (pit 2 would be great). We need to be able to compete in the Glitz Pit with updated enemies after Rawk Hawk goes back. We need maybe a chapter or two to get updated better level design. TTYD is already GREAT but it could be better.
Why does everyone care so much about frame rate in a fricking cardboard cut-out RPG? There is no fast action, just characters drawn on pieces of cardboard walking around. You don't need 60fps to tell that story. If anything I'd be tempted to go even further and limit it to 15fps for a stop motion type vibe.

The real question is will the battles stay at 60fps? This is much more important than the overworld, because the overworld doesn't rely on things like Superguards or stylish inputs. If it's as fricked as say Dark Souls 2 and the durability tied to framerate battles would be outright unplayable for people used to original. I want to preorder this but I'm waiting for more video footage to confirm.

It appears that in this new retranslation vivian will make the same mistake as in the JP, followed by beldam saying that the name is wrong and you are a man, and instead of "you will be punished", they are making it a joke that it doesn't matter that they are sisters, "RELATION WITHHELD", that their name is three shadows.
The alternative is that the mistake in the new version is probably going to be vivian saying shadow siblings and beldam getting angry for getting the name wrong, RELATION WITHHELD

Playing it through Dolphin is even better since there's full on custom texture packs for higher res sprites and HUD to play at 2k, 4k and beyond, and unlike the one for PM64 that changes a bunch of stuff needlessly, they're actually good.

Removing the N graffiti was probably the right move, given what we just saw with Stellar Blade and its graffiti. Removing the wave is just baffling though, I doubt literally anyone thought Mario was randomly deciding to heil Hitler in that moment.

TTYD remake's changes are just wholly arbitrary because it's needlessly applying a new look onto a game where the technology was there, not held back by restrictions. I can be fine with remakes if they're actually respecting the original and not just pointlessly "enhancing" things.

If it's the original artists behind them who were previously held back by limitations (i.e., hardware, budget, time, etc.) having the opportunity to go back and get closer to what they were envisioning, I have no qualms with remakes.
This is very rare in the games industry given remakes are often only made as pandery moneygrabs made by different teams entirely who don't have the same inspirations/mindsets as the original authors, meaning they often miss the point.
If you want a good remake in that regard I'd say Ocarina of Time 3D.

Not that guy, but OOT 3D's fine. The only thing I can recall off the top of my head that they added was that Sheikah Stone that gives you hints on where to go. Aside from that I don't remember anything that is inferior to the original except some things like lighting, some visual styles, and not being able to re-bottle bugs. Not really. It'll obviously sell well. Easily 5 millions. Will it actually change anything on Nintendo's side? Most likely not. There's really nothing at stake, as a remake it's not bad enough to warrant the kind of reaction you're describing but not good enough to be called superior or even equal to the base game (unless we get some solid additional postgame content and other stuff - OR if you really care a lot about quick partner swap).
the questions about framerate and if battle inputs are kept intact for the original players are more important than minute nitpicking like "OH MY STARS AND GARTERS THEY ADDED THE BLIMP TO ROGUEPORT THE SOUL IS GONE"

They showed ONE piece of concept art in the previews, and it's the one that shows the pigs are supposed to be papercraft. Their polygonal look is caused by them being made of folded paper. Ironic that one of the few instances of the original going for a paper look for something is the one thing you say needs to be changed, considering they appear to have changed literally everything else to be paper-themed instead.

TTYD had you get your body and friends stolen by a ghost you'd have to guess the name of by recruiting a former enemy who wouldn't even understand your identity until the end. Or have you compete in a wrestling tournament to steal the trophy... but then the trophy is fake and you're trying to uncover a mystery about kidnapped fighters, disappearances, a guy named X sending you mysterious mails and also various sabotages (poisoned food, locked room...). This is gold for a kid.

I really like some of 64's scenarios. The Toy Box and the way it messes with the hub is very underrated. But overall TTYD is where you get the most impressive scenes that stuck with me. Chapter 5 not only has you stranded, the ending of the chapter has you force an alliance with your former enemy by threatening to throw his israeliteel to the sea so you can use his phantom ship to beat the X Nauts in a naval battle. How cool is that?

This remake is pretty useless to me since I already beaten this game roughly 2 years ago. I'll treat like the M&L remakes where they'll only be good for soundtrack fodder and nothing else. Still, imaging scalpergays seething about people probably not wanting to buy $70 worth of an old game is a joy think about. Also going from 60fps to 30fps is an extreme downgrade and I'm not even a fpsgay like that. I'll never know why newer games get fricked like this compared to older ones.

Rather than taking itself seriously, I should rephrase it: I think SPM is too melodramatic. TTYD is taking itself 100% seriously and it's sincere (just like SPM) but the story is a more standard anime like one, about traveling to new places, meeting new people, uncovering 7 McGuffins and uncovering a huge mystery while an enemy organization is trying to foil your plans and (maybe?) conquer the world. The romance stuff in SPM wasn't fundamentally wrong but in execution it feels weird.

I really like some of 64's scenarios. The Toy Box and the way it messes with the hub is very underrated. But overall TTYD is where you get the most impressive scenes that stuck with me. Chapter 5 not only has you stranded, the ending of the chapter has you force an alliance with your former enemy by threatening to throw his israeliteel to the sea so you can use his phantom ship to beat the X Nauts in a naval battle. How cool is that?
I just like how comfy 64 is. Only TTYD Chapter 6 comes close for me.

People don't complain about lighting effects but badly integrated new 3D assets that don't fit the (mostly kept similar) 2D artstyle. As well as the loss of some of the artstyle identity, from comic book to papercraft.

It absolutely couldn't, not least of which due to how much of GX makes use of the cube's dedicated ATi card which Sega already had experience with from the Monkey Ball games and engine plus the Gamecube based arcade cabinets. That kind of stuff is normal in the Sony world where devs regularly wrote everything from scratch because of how shit the Sony dev kits and documentation tended to be, but not many games actually made use of what the Gamecube could do instead of being shitty outsourced multiplat ports.

It's not both, what we need is a bunch of modifiers. Hard mode (that isn't just the double damage badge). We need more postgame content (pit 2 would be great). We need to be able to compete in the Glitz Pit with updated enemies after Rawk Hawk goes back. We need maybe a chapter or two to get updated better level design. TTYD is already GREAT but it could be better.

The real question is will the battles stay at 60fps? This is much more important than the overworld, because the overworld doesn't rely on things like Superguards or stylish inputs. If it's as fricked as say Dark Souls 2 and the durability tied to framerate battles would be outright unplayable for people used to original. Playing it through Dolphin is even better since there's full on custom texture packs for higher res sprites and HUD to play at 2k, 4k and beyond, and unlike the one for PM64 that changes a bunch of stuff needlessly, they're actually good.

Mario RPG's remake was more sensible, it felt closer to what they were originally envisioning, but were clearly held back by the power of pre-rendered graphics at the time. TTYD remake's changes are just wholly arbitrary because it's needlessly applying a new look onto a game where the technology was there, not held back by restrictions. I can be fine with remakes if they're actually respecting the original and not just pointlessly "enhancing" things.

This is very rare in the games industry given remakes are often only made as pandery moneygrabs made by different teams entirely who don't have the same inspirations/mindsets as the original authors, meaning they often miss the point.

Not really. It'll obviously sell well. Easily 5 millions. Will it actually change anything on Nintendo's side? Most likely not. There's really nothing at stake, as a remake it's not bad enough to warrant the kind of reaction you're describing but not good enough to be called superior or even equal to the base game (unless we get some solid additional postgame content and other stuff - OR if you really care a lot about quick partner swap).

They showed ONE piece of concept art in the previews, and it's the one that shows the pigs are supposed to be papercraft. Their polygonal look is caused by them being made of folded paper. Ironic that one of the few instances of the original going for a paper look for something is the one thing you say needs to be changed, considering they appear to have changed literally everything else to be paper-themed instead.

TTYD had you get your body and friends stolen by a ghost you'd have to guess the name of by recruiting a former enemy who wouldn't even understand your identity until the end. Or have you compete in a wrestling tournament to steal the trophy... but then the trophy is fake and you're trying to uncover a mystery about kidnapped fighters, disappearances, a guy named X sending you mysterious mails and also various sabotages (poisoned food, locked room...). This is gold for a kid.

I really like some of 64's scenarios. The Toy Box and the way it messes with the hub is very underrated. But overall TTYD is where you get the most impressive scenes that stuck with me. Chapter 5 not only has you stranded, the ending of the chapter has you force an alliance with your former enemy by threatening to throw his israeliteel to the sea so you can use his phantom ship to beat the X Nauts in a naval battle. How cool is that?
It's pretty cool! I'll admit I'm a little jaded by the backtracking, but I'll never forget that time Crump called out to "you, yeah you in front of the TV!" kid me was like "whoa!!!!"
5 would have benefited from a map rework to make the backtracking interesting this time (or remove it by adding a location or two).
But that still leaves you with a game that has inferior chapter concepts, dialogue, characters, gameplay, general creativity, etc. to its successor, so how would that make for an objectively better game?

This remake is pretty useless to me since I already beaten this game roughly 2 years ago. I'll treat like the M&L remakes where they'll only be good for soundtrack fodder and nothing else. Still, imaging scalpergays seething about people probably not wanting to buy $70 worth of an old game is a joy think about. Also going from 60fps to 30fps is an extreme downgrade and I'm not even a fpsgay like that. I'll never know why newer games get fricked like this compared to older ones.

Rather than taking itself seriously, I should rephrase it: I think SPM is too melodramatic. TTYD is taking itself 100% seriously and it's sincere (just like SPM) but the story is a more standard anime like one, about traveling to new places, meeting new people, uncovering 7 McGuffins and uncovering a huge mystery while an enemy organization is trying to foil your plans and (maybe?) conquer the world. The romance stuff in SPM wasn't fundamentally wrong but in execution it feels weird.

TTYD though leaned heavily on the curses. I like how the JP trailer for the remake references it. I wish we could have the Mario theme covers in these commercials.

As a '99babby, I can confirm that Sticker Star was incredibly boring at a similar age.
Some people would try to defend TOK because TOK is obviously better than SS but I think for a kid with basic standards (kid standards), the best TOK can be is "okay".
You would be surprised. I had a kid tell me he loved Paper Mario only for him to later tell me he has only played Sticker Star. OK is a big step up for some of these fans.

People don't complain about lighting effects but badly integrated new 3D assets that don't fit the (mostly kept similar) 2D artstyle. As well as the loss of some of the artstyle identity, from comic book to papercraft.
Yes. This is egregious and even a kid would find this annoying. It's not normal that you'd have to suffer 2 minutes of PAPER PAPER PAPER before seeing the actual gameplay.
