There's this and Sarevok mentioning you were a fallen paladin drenched in your orders blood when you showed up, so you can assume Durge tried to resist their urge and failed prior. Eating the noblestalk and casting heal on Durge also gives different memories, depending on if you did it before or after killing the bard/killing Orin.

They're all pretty easy to break early on. Vengeance for instance can be broke by stopping the tiefling shooting the goblin in the cage. I imagine devotion or ancients gets it broken killing Alfira.

They're usually pretty obvious. Devotion for instance can break their oath killing the guys chasing Karlach, but only if you don't know they were hunting her to begin with, afterwards they're free to kill.
Apparently their original starting class was meant to be a paladin, would explain why they specifically get unique lines with the oathbreaker knight and Sarevok mentioning their oaths.

I think I just got her killed in my playthrough. Orin showed up disguised as Lae'zel and tried to get me to team up with her. I told her to frick off and she proceeded to hand me Lae'zel's inventory in a backpack.

What's your party composition? What classes/subclasses?
Are you using your consumables? Using stealth to ambush your enemies?
Where are you and what encounters have you done so far?
Are you exploring enough and talking to people to get their quests so you can get XP from completing them?
A lot of fights can be won pretty easily with good positioning.
Off the top of my head I think the Gith patrol near the broken bridge is probably the hardest fight early on since they're all level 5. There are some other notables ones like the hag, the spider matriarch, the level 5 Gnoll outside the cave and Ragzlin.
But everything else should be fairly manageable before you hit level 5 party. And you should be level 5-6 by the time you hit the Underdark

That's a pretty strong composition and you seem to know what should work fairly well.
Consider bringing Gale if you need some extra nukes or haste or astarion for stealth.
I cannot stress enough just how insanely strong haste is. If you have a sorc in your party and you dual cast haste on say Karlach and Lae'zel they'll just obliterate everything.
I played a storm sorc and it's fricking crazy how good dual cast and quick cast are. With haste on top of quick cast you can call lightning 3 times per turn. Just throw a water bottle at whatever you're attacking and it's like you're hitting them with call lightning 6 times per turn.
Don't feel too bad about the Gith patrol, they're an absolute fricking menace pre-lvl5 and even at 5 they'll kick your ass, especially with that action surge bullshit.
Lowest level I've won that fight at was 3 but that was with ambushing them, getting extremely lucky and even then I barely won it.
Lots of good mods for looks yeah, unless you're a terminal coomer you'll be able to make some pretty characters. If you're into tall and buff barbarians there are some very good options.
There are only a limited number of face presets, most of which are pretty ugly. Half elf has the best, and there's like one decent-ish face for drows and humans.
I had a tiefling sorc back in EA but I can't remember if I used mods for her face or not.
If you're on PC you can always use mods, there area few face mods and you're bound to find something your happy with.

You can offset that somewhat with certain items and jumping.
On he plus side you can squeeze through certain holes that bigger races can't.

BG3 isn't flawless by any stretch of the imagination but it's still an amazing game. And a lot of people see it that way.
So given all that when you also factor in nostalgia goggles this game will be remembered as a highlight of the genre 10 years from now.
Same way people look back at games like the Ultima series, the previous BG games, Planescape: Torment, VTMB etc. it's going to live in people's minds like this amazing thing of times past.
I enjoyed both DOS1 and DOS2 greatly so I remember them very fondly.

Part of the problem was due to people complaining every companion was evil or neutral at best (They were more hostile and suspicious of each other, Shadowheart started as more of a c**t, Astarion didn't play up the muh poor victim shit as much, Gale was sketchy as frick and more of a condescending prick, Wyll was more huffing his own farts over wanting to be genuinely heroic) so they neutered everyone besides Lae'zel, so now besides Shadowheart and Lae'zel everyone vaguely gets along from the start. The only other conflicts in the group are Karlach and Wyll (which is dealt with in their first talk very easily) and Minthara doesn't like Gale which is more played for laughs.

That said they obviously frotloaded the interactions so people would get to the "good stuff" faster. It wasn't a bug it was intentional. They knew to modify other stat gains from ea to launch but forgot the relationship stats? No, it was intentional but poorly received.

There's this and Sarevok mentioning you were a fallen paladin drenched in your orders blood when you showed up, so you can assume Durge tried to resist their urge and failed prior. Eating the noblestalk and casting heal on Durge also gives different memories, depending on if you did it before or after killing the bard/killing Orin.

Are you using your consumables? Using stealth to ambush your enemies?
Where are you and what encounters have you done so far?
Are you exploring enough and talking to people to get their quests so you can get XP from completing them?
A lot of fights can be won pretty easily with good positioning.
Off the top of my head I think the Gith patrol near the broken bridge is probably the hardest fight early on since they're all level 5. There are some other notables ones like the hag, the spider matriarch, the level 5 Gnoll outside the cave and Ragzlin.
But everything else should be fairly manageable before you hit level 5 party. And you should be level 5-6 by the time you hit the Underdark
I dont even recall my comp, I think Lazel was just default, shadowfart was changed to storm cleric and karlach was a monk with tavern brawler, I was a pallock

Next update (patch 7) is adding new endings, who knows when they're done but I believe they aren't making an expansion or BG4
They won't make expansions but they'll keep updating and polishing the game, it's also pretty safe to say they'll do a GotY edition, they always do anniversary editions or stuff like that
this game disappointed me. I really loved all the ways you can interact with the world, speak with random squirrels and such, but why is it so coomerbaity but not really giving the option of playing a sex fiend or playboy? I ended up just stealing underwear when I realized there is about 4-5 sex scenes and thats it.
No expansions, paid DLCs or things like that but they're still patching the game and adding small things here and there. NExt major patch is going to add some extra end game cutscenes for the evil paths.
That's a pretty strong composition and you seem to know what should work fairly well.
Consider bringing Gale if you need some extra nukes or haste or astarion for stealth.
I cannot stress enough just how insanely strong haste is. If you have a sorc in your party and you dual cast haste on say Karlach and Lae'zel they'll just obliterate everything.
I played a storm sorc and it's fricking crazy how good dual cast and quick cast are. With haste on top of quick cast you can call lightning 3 times per turn. Just throw a water bottle at whatever you're attacking and it's like you're hitting them with call lightning 6 times per turn.
Don't feel too bad about the Gith patrol, they're an absolute fricking menace pre-lvl5 and even at 5 they'll kick your ass, especially with that action surge bullshit.
Lowest level I've won that fight at was 3 but that was with ambushing them, getting extremely lucky and even then I barely won it.
How are the character creation options for female chars in this game? Will I need to install any mods to make them better?

Lots of good mods for looks yeah, unless you're a terminal coomer you'll be able to make some pretty characters. If you're into tall and buff barbarians there are some very good options.

There are only a limited number of face presets, most of which are pretty ugly. Half elf has the best, and there's like one decent-ish face for drows and humans.

If you're on PC you can always use mods, there area few face mods and you're bound to find something your happy with.

Yes, size pretty much solely impacts movement speed
You can offset that somewhat with certain items and jumping.
On he plus side you can squeeze through certain holes that bigger races can't.

Given absolutely none of the AAA companies are capable of it, that means it’s going to be a completely different indie style game, or another developer will completely frick it up. Either way, there won’t be a FO3-NV pipeline, or even a more normalgay friendly FO3-4 one.
Some other game will come around by then and it'll do some things better, sure.
BG3 isn't flawless by any stretch of the imagination but it's still an amazing game. And a lot of people see it that way.
So given all that when you also factor in nostalgia goggles this game will be remembered as a highlight of the genre 10 years from now.

I remember them saying the idea was "under normal circumstances none of these people would work together, much less get along" but due to the artifact protecting you all they were forced to cooperate. Part of the problem was due to people complaining every companion was evil or neutral at best (They were more hostile and suspicious of each other, Shadowheart started as more of a c**t, Astarion didn't play up the muh poor victim shit as much, Gale was sketchy as frick and more of a condescending prick, Wyll was more huffing his own farts over wanting to be genuinely heroic) so they neutered everyone besides Lae'zel, so now besides Shadowheart and Lae'zel everyone vaguely gets along from the start. The only other conflicts in the group are Karlach and Wyll (which is dealt with in their first talk very easily) and Minthara doesn't like Gale which is more played for laughs.

Extremely early (probably back when it was announced but Early Access hadn't actually started) one dev talked about how Gith don't believe in monogamy and she'd happily cuck you, it wasn't in early access so some anons assumed it was going to be put in later, and the only other option (since Karlach only got added as a companion with full release) was Shadowheart who is normal looking and didn't seem to have anything like that.
She's not that popular now though. I've seen a surprising amount of people who normally are the type to keep a companion no matter what happily tell her to frick off, let her die or kill her and continue playing.
