The sages didn't fail tough, Rauru chose to seal Ganondorf so Link could finish him off in the future, the sages lived the rest of their lives normally, unlike the champions.
Seeing the same cutscene x4 for each sage was pretty annoying.
Though the biggest problem I have with the writing is that most of it is buried in memories, and if I bump into a certain memory, or complete the whole set, I guess Link decides to be full mute and not tell anyone the Zelda they see isn't Zelda and that there is no reason to search for her anymore
Yeah, I did the dragon tear memories first and the game is not equipped for that. Like link knows exactly where Zelda is and that Ganondorf can fake being Zelda, so he should have a pretty good idea of what's happening yet he tells no one, hell he still has dialogue options which are like "I'm looking for clues on Zelda's whereabouts", like you literally rode zelda and pulled the master sword out of her fucking head. Now it just makes link look like either a retard or an asshole. It's not like the dragon tear memories are hidden either, they're right fucking there in the open.
