He talks about it here. One thing he mentions is the insane enemy variety which I was also super impressed with. Most of these soulslikes totally fail on that front so it was so refreshing to constantly have new enemies popping up throughout the whole game

I love boss battles. I play games because I love boss battles. The boss battles are what I'm enjoying the least by a wide margin. If we had Lies of P levels and Souls bosses I'd be dreaming.
That being said I still think it's brilliant and a 9/10 if not more. It's my game of the generation thus far.
Some of the bosses are bad but Laxasia, Simon Manus, and Nameless Puppet back-to-back is a better ending than nearly all of the Souls games
abbey is gigakino; those 3 bosses on the way to the ending are a better ending than ANY souls main game lineup, you only have an argument if you include dlc, and sekiro if you end it with owl father and sword saint
still the best final area though for sure, great atmosphere and the boss fights just all feel amazing when put together like they are. at least laxasia and nameless escaped the nerf

Carcasses are fleshy and super blue, often cause decay. Humans just look like humans. There are some puppets near the end that are infected and I'm not sure if they count as puppets or carcasses for like damage bonuses

You can swap between hair-styles at the P-organ chair. You keep the weapon upgrade materials you got (I think? I'm not sure). And no new higher tier moonstones, I think there might be small adjustments that you get full moonstone and half-moonstones earlier.
You also get free P-organ respec once you start newgame+, so dont do the mistake I did and afk for an hour to get enough coins to respec. And the Mercy Statue teleport is also unlocked straight from the start.

Sounds like a good thing, if I knew how to deal with every obstacle the moment I see it that sounds boring.
Attacks/traps should have an element of reactivity where they can catch you off-guard, but you can deal with them with enough skill. I think of some situations in From games where an undodgeable explosion will just randomly go off next to an item with no tell and that is artificial difficulty to me
in the context of this game, there's definitely a few examples that would count, but you generally can recover if you haven't chugged all your estus away. puppet king, laxasia, and nameless puppet have attacks that you'll almost certainly get hit by, but you can potentially still be ok in the same run depending on resources and your learning ability. most bosses don't hit hard enough to drain your resources too much if you mess up timings, for me it was pretty easy to learn patterns because i intentionally blocked most non-red attacks, even as a dex build, and the noise feedback from the block let me learn the timing for most strings within 2-3 uses
yeah pretty much this. i think the only time i reasonably ever experienced a "souls tier" death in this game is when i forgot the guys that drop out of goop explode when they die, and knocked me off a cliff in abbey, but that is my fault as i should have remembered the goop guys explode on death.

What is your least favorite enemy in the game? I fricking DESPISE the acid/decay throwing mini-minibosses in the return to Krat station. I've never found a way to deal with them, since they just keep spamming that shit even in melee and you'll always get hit

It‘s a decent 7/10 game.
It leans too far into the ”look, another delayed attack you need to learn the timing for” meme, and doesn‘t really do anything original except for some minor things that don‘t matter in the bigger picture.
The perfect block system didn‘t give me the same ”back and forth“ feeling I got from Sekiro and didn‘t feel quite as satisfying.
The weapon selection is great, and the handle + blade system is one of the best aspects of the game, but sadly the movesets themselves are too small.
Still think it‘s worth a playthrough but nothing made me wanna go for a NG+ run.

I don’t even understand how anyone can even complain about a game being “too hard” in 2023. All modern games are literally built to be sold to as many people as possible so there’s no way it could actually be hard otherwise it would filter too many players and lose a ton of sales.
lies of p is an anomaly in a sea of piss easy, focus grouped, soulless wide net casting games. there's a real solid chance, at some point or another, something in the game is gonna kick your ass for a little while until you find a means to adapt.
elemental weapons/coatings are the big difference maker. you don't even have to spec into advance and you'll beat the frick out of a lot of stuff very quickly. most people run non elemental weapons and underutilize coatings

for me, the challenge was mostly in enduring through first phase to have enough heals left for second phase. i found it real easy to mess up and eat the double arm sweep for half your health, and that really adds up at that point in the game. as long as you don't get instagibbed by phase 2 waterfowl, i didn't even need to heal on phase 2 on my clear. just depends on how much hp they took off him

I think an arm with like a rocket on the elbow that you can use as an extended dodge or gap closer would be useful. Could also have an upgrade that turns it into like a rocket punch that does stagger

KoP Mecha phase 2 specifically have those attacks to swat you away if you charge him. Hang back and wait until monkey swings to you or does his wide tornado attack and then retreat.

the capacity change is good, also you have very little leeway so very often you're at 58% but any upgrade moves you to 60% slightly heavy
and all the amulets were 100% unusable with that weight, so yeah overall good changes

I was slightly heavy until Laxasia, from there I noticed the stamina regen debuff was very noticeable and pumped a bit of capacity to be under 60%. Booster handle has pretty big stamina consumption too so that plays a part as well.

I already felt it on black rabbit gank 2, even without being shocked stamina regen (with amulet) feels pretty slow when slightly heavy.

Capacity was already the best stat, the problem is that it's never worth using lighter frames or compromising your weapon blade to save weight when you can just put 2 points into Capacity to get 5% more mitigation or 10% more damage. The weight balancing was a failure because it isn't encouraging different playstyles, it just ended up being a tax.
What they should have done is stopped 2nd weapon slots taking up any weight until the weapon is swapped in. It's fricking moronic that these games are still basically telling you to Hardswap if you want to use more than one weapon. In a single player game, in 2023.
Here's how you explicitly make a game for shitters:

i played up until i beat king of puppets using a compromised weight build to stay under 30%. it was nice, but holy frick did i not have the skill to make use of it, and you give up a LOT to stay in this range even with heavy capacity investment and a light weapon like rapier
sub 30% isn't worth it until NG+. By going to 60% you will be able to get significantly more mitigation AND damage because the game allows you to turn weight into a lot of both via boss rings, heavier blades and heavier frames. This is why Capacity was already a stupidly good stat.
yeah, was night and day when i was able to go all in on a 60% after all my capacity investments. losing the stamina regen made me sad but having all the other tools more than made up for it in ng. victor's amulet is so insane by itself, and i could still run the heaviest frames and other stuff on top of that. capacity is the god stat

it does, the gems are just consumables. If you have more in your storage it just pulls them out once you revive or rest. The cube system is primarily for specters, you can make them fricking demons with the right gems. If you're just using it for the hp regen invest in the cube use speed, makes it a lot more viable

I genuinely just react to moves, but Lies of P and later souls games and Sekiro like to act super fast attacks or delay things for 8 years so it prevents me from reacting properly
I feel like a lot of the newer From games don't encourage learning boss movesets. They animate too weirdly, have option select combo extensions and the roll spam is too strong with i-frames.
I loved learning the movesets in Lies of P. Maybe its just because its a fresh series and I have no expectations, in From games you feel like you should be able to do this without learning shit since you've done it so many times...
the movesets in lies of p feel as if they're more deliberately designed TO be learned, while newer from games have a lot of single moves that they can route into depending on any number of variables.
i feel the same as you though, i loved learning how to deal with the boss movesets, and most of the bosses won't instantly slaughter you for getting them wrong so you even have the chance to play more of the fight if you wiener up their moves.

Rafters are fun. They are wide enough (and the camera doesn't frick you over, which I was surprised with) that you can just run and dodge there pretty easily. Every soulslike NEEDS to introduce levels and sections with friction, if you make a game that is always just "fun and breezy", you are missing something.

The game keeps putting unique item drops on big avoidable enemies so there's no chance I'm leaving anything on the map alive. You can't design levels with the expectation that players will not try to kill things and then also have unique rewards for killing things with no indication of when you want them to kill things or run past them.
Throw electricity-bombs at him. Use the electricity arm (goes through shields too). Or just pull him back. Or just fight on the beam

I don't even agree with the nerfs but the homosexuals crying and pissing their pants about a video game being slightly easier make me want more. Let people skip the first healthbar after you beat it once as well and make throwables do even more damage as well.
I genuinely have grown to hate multiple phase boss fights
People love Sister Friede, but one of her three phases was pointless.
The second phase is impossible to die in and simply wasted your time while you are trying to learn stage 3.
I got annoyed by this fight and just shot her with arrows in stage 3 which is apparently something you can do.
Didn't even know you could kill a boss with a bow before as I thought it would take to long or they would avoid it
Friede's 3rd phase was pure kino only because it was completely unexpected. They even set you up like you won after beating phase 2
It's fricking garbage because I had to go through the waste of time called the second phase.

Are you going for perfect parries? Remember you can just block instead and regain your HP.
Also he staggers easily, after he does the big slashing attack it's a good moment to fit in a weapon art. Try to find space for R2 attacks too. And get the slashing resistance fiber and put on the weakest converter since he has no elemental stuff, stack physical resistance.
Go for build that focuses mainly on building up stagger and learn to perfect guard his shit like you're fighting Glock Saint Isshin
Or you can Aegis shield glitch him like crazy
use electric, not acid. i found his moveset so insanely nutty in phase 2 that i had to beat him through pure dps. if you learn the timing for his red charge at the start of phase 2 it'll help A LOT with getting a strong opening. other than that, i was just hyper aggressive and blew him up in 2 staggers
throw shit at him. a bunch of electro cells bring him down to 50% already lol.
I never parried. sub 30% equip load and all dodge upgrades ftw
First form parry, second form don't parry at all and dodge either into him or to the right

this game is aggressively belle-epoque, the only thing asian about this game is a weapon, one character, and some references, and they're all pretty much connected
I heard there are multiple combat stances or something live that. sounds complicated for a sOuLsLiKe
It's closer to an action game then a souls game.
High stance is slow and big damage, but has a shitty dodge
Mid stance is average, has a decent dodge, and good at blocking
Low stance is low damage, fast, and has the best dodge
You switch between them whenever and you also have a skill tree where you can equip new moves as well
Nioh? Or Lies of P? Nioh is still pretty fun, but if you hate the aesthetic/setting and you dislike the loot-explosions, you can kinda skip it. Lies of P is fun
If you only want to play one of them just play Nioh 2.
Nioh 1 might have some better levels, but 2 is better combat and design wise.
Some tips are that you don't just ignore omnyo and ninjustsu(magic/faith) as they give you buffs and other useful things
It's like Diablo in that you get a bunch of new gear and try to break the game and infusing and customizing weapons doesn't matter that much till the ng+ cycles

Same old same old. Still liking it, but I havent seen anything change (other than the puppet speech being translated). For some reason, there is a hard cap for how much a levelup can cost, so you are getting shit-ton of levels.
Fun, but it sucks that enemies can still kill you in 2 hits.
Fun as hell now that you start with the proper dodge.
Chances for the patch to actually kill the sequel?

His sword is nothing special other than having an innate crit chance, the amulet will help you in NG+ by trivializing the decay gas, poison swamp and instant kill curse area.
I've been using his sword in NG+, its weird to have a real critical strike chance in soulslike
His sword is the most OP weapon in the game at the moment for pure DPS.

I was missing one quartz myself, and it was in the church cryptic vessel. Its in the area where you drop down the brazier to burn the shit (the first brazier with the upwards moving platforms). There are now stairs down
There are six, you do have it though. Did you do that one? You just gotta go to Krat station and show the weapon to a dude.
If you aren't missing that one then you're missing another. Are you at the end boss?

The only balance patch that was needed was the parry window to be extended by 5-10ms

So what. You dont get achievements for it and you'll get every group you want in NG+ anyway.
