Oersted did nothing wrong.
Fricking Straybow
It's amazing how being the protagonist changes a person's perspective on the character. If Oersted's past were shown in a sad backstory cutscene nobody would like it, but because you control him for as long as you do it's completely justified.
I guess you could say you really... LIVE his EVIL
>It's amazing how being the protagonist changes a person's perspective on the character. If Oersted's past were shown in a sad backstory cutscene nobody would like it, but because you control him for as long as you do it's completely justified.
Nah. Even if he was never playable i still would have found what he did as completely justified.
What no pussy does to a homie
He got cucked. It's a reasonable reaction.
Everyone around him immediately assumed he was guilty and the only person who truly never stopped believing in him was that one kid.
The old man also believed him to the end but he gave his life telling oersted to go save the girl hoping that would help he would save his wife and together try to clear his name
Nobody can deny that the chain of events that let to Oersted completely losing his shit aren't super fricke up.
So did Odio come first and influence Oersted? Or was Oersted always the source of Odio?
The OG Demon Lord plays a role in it
Odio came first, but everything Oersted did was pretty much entirely him. Also pretty much everyone else being a massive c**t.
Time just doesn't mean shit to demons. The concept of a beginning or a "first" are things you just gotta give up on when those buttholes are involved.
Personally I think it was lingering darkness from the Demon Lord Hasshe killed. When Streighbough found the location he got corrupted by the lingering darkness - when you fight him you see him using the same purple aura the demon lord used.
Though that doesn't explain the seven statues that await Oersted in the Demon Lord's lair
Love how they both start with an “O”
It's a stable time loop. Oersted created the other alternate versions of Odio based on the statues he found in the Archon's Roost, and scattered them throughout time to prove humanity's worthlessness. They are incarnations of him, both past and future. At the same time, a previous incarnation of Odio in the Middle Ages that was slain by Hasshe lingered around as a spirit, probably possessed Streibough (which is why Streibough gets the Odio-signature Megalomania boss music), and directed Oersted into taking the mantle of Odio, thus securing his own creation.
Oersted was preyed upon by Odio, but also is Odio's source.

I really want to like Near Future but its pacing feels so much weaker than the rest of the game that it ruins the experience for me. That's without even mentioning Dr. Tobei's hellscape item refinement. That said, character designs for this chapter are still 10/10.
Distant Future might be my favorite of the original seven chapters of the game. For a game that embraces cliches and tropes often, I was waiting for the obvious "twist" that the guy named after Darth Vader would be the traitor. I couldn't be more glad that I was wrong.
Leaving some links to the near future manga (untranslated):
https://archive.org/details/nearfuturecol1/Vol.%201/mode/2up
https://archive.org/details/nearfuturecol2/
>Akira folds the Crusaders at the start thanks to psychic powers
>kidnapping goes straight to the labs rather than the docks
>Taroimo transforms into a bike for Akira to use rather than Akira hijacking some random
>Akira confronts Livingstill in the lab and decks him
This is unironically a massive improvement over the game already
Yeah, its kino
I heard the mangaka made an adaptation of the final chapter 1-2 years ago, has anyone scanned it?
Our hero
i liked near future and disliked distant future, i just couldn't make myself care to whatever was happening there.
most reasonable person in the enture game
I was thinking he was going to frick up everything but no it was the roastie love triangle that screwed everything up, meanwhile Darthe helps save the day
>Rachel goes schizophrenic and steals Kirk's corpse to fondle
>tricked to think that his soul is inviting her to jump into the vacuum of space and join him
>accuses the Indian with bad voice acting of sabotaging Kirk's suit so he could "win her back"
>nearly gets Kato and Cube killed
>has to get sense talken into her by Darth before she can even slightly calm down
Distant Future probably has the best portrayal of a woman losing her mind Ive ever seen in a video game
Yeah, it portrayed a woman with hysteria as wrong and the level headed military man as right, you don't see that nowadays
>That entire speech about why he hates robots
I did not ask for these feels
It's really hard to wrap your head around what witnessing unfeeling killbots do their thing will do to you mentally.
Like, Gundam touches on unmanned things all the time, but only one series really REALLY dove into how horrifying automatons built to commit mass murder with brutal efficiency truly is.
The fact that he went through that shit and still ended up being the most level-headed person on the ship is impressive. Thank god he got a happy ending.
Legitimately smiled when he lived at the end of Near Future.
*Distant Future
Frick me
>but right now, its the best thing I ever tasted
Square needs to say frick it and do more experimental short story collections like this.
He genuinely could've been the one sent to the final chapter and would've worked just as well, if not better. But we all love Coffeebot, so it's all cool.
>gets cucked
>kills everyone in existence across multiple timelines
Oersted was BASED
So did you do a no kill run in the Proto-Undertale chapter?
I tried but the robot glitched out instead of taking out the last two guards for me
I tried but I didn't know that if you recruit the prisoner early, you have to kill those eight dudes right before the end.
Also I didn't know you have to stop and wait to get the better thing from that one lady.
I went in mostly blind for my first playthrough. I killed in most fights I got into, but I tried to stealth wherever I could. Kinda neat that the remake's ending of the chapter changes slightly based on the playthrough now. Debating between revisting this chapter after beating the game, or doing it before starting the finale.
If we're talking Twilight of Japan I think there were multiple endings in the original as well
Eh, I didn't bother doing a pacifist run.
The reward for doing it is outclassed by the sword you get for clearing Oboromaru's trial dungeon in the final chapter anyway.
>play the remake
>start with the Wild West chapter
>localization makes the Sundown Kid seem like some "haha, sick burn bro, ur mom fat" type of homosexual instead of a gruff, man of few words type of homosexual he is supposed to be
God, i hope someone inserts the snes fan-translation into the remake some day.
>Clint Eastwood-esque character
>give him a Your Mom joke
I admit I laughed at the absurdity of it, but you can't tell me with a straight face that the localizers thought this was fitting
I'm torn.
On one hand there's that stuff, but I also like O.Dio's pre battle dialogue, when in the original he's just kinda like "oh yeah you think you're tough? Well check out this gatling gun!"
I also think that the final chapter was done well overall. Getting actual stage actors for it was a good call, at least they knew where to put in the most effort.
While I agree that the joke was too juvenile for Sundowner, I don't think it brought down the character.
Sundowner has only one line of dialogue that's truly relevant to his character and the Remake handled it excelent.
>It's been a long, long time since I've had the chance to do something good and decent. That's reward enough.
On that note I really liked Akira's English VA when he talks Oersted down if he's the main character during the ending.
Localizers get the rope.
Modern fan translations are just as bad though unfortunately.
He was dealt a very bad hand.
What would your scenario's theme be?
And what would your Odio be named?
Le Current Year Era
Plot revolves around anti-fa vs proud boys, thin blue line and BLM
My Odio is a grifter stoking both sides of the conflict for bitcoins
Finally, a good thread. This game is literally a kino rpg, takes a lot of inspiration from a shit ton of movies.
Is the remake any good? I played the original way back and loved everything about it besides the combat.
I think it was pretty good, though to be honest I couldn't tell you what the changes were since it had been so long since I played the original.
Mostly localization i don't think there was too much of a change gameplay wise, i didn't like how they pretty much copy-pasted how octopath looks and put in the game, shit was way too bright
God it felt good seeing Oersted break free and be allowed to do one last attack on the demon lord
Do you know how much localization changed? I hear conflicting reports on whether the Near Future censorship was purely localization or if it was changed for the JP release as well. Ive only seen playthroughs of the SNES version ages ago, so I'm not an expert in most of the original scripts
>mogs the other students despite all the writing favoritism going towards the purple-bandana kid
Based Lei
they did change the localization at points, dumb shit like making Akira steal money instead of the panties of the orphanage woman, which is pretty dumb
Beyond that the original story is unchanged, only localization fricks up beyond Akira are
>removed the pic related sex joke
>some dumb joke changed in the western chapter
>sentences that mention girls/women are more gender neutral like most modern troonylations
>they were so moronic they didn't realize that the first word of the prehistoric chapter was "AI/Love" instead of simply screaming AIEEEEEEEEE
>Oersted chapter has more olde english sounding dialogue, but overall it ends up working better since his english VA is really good
Even then, the remake is superior because the little bits of extra content is really good.
They did make the combat way too easy, that is the one big flaw.
>some dumb joke changed in the western chapter
They actually inserted a dumb joke in a place where there was none and there are a lot of little things that change the tone of dialogue to make things more light-hearted.
>>they were so moronic they didn't realize that the first word of the prehistoric chapter was "AI/Love" instead of simply screaming AIEEEEEEEEE
This was the biggest downgrade in the entire game
AAAIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
i hate it too but im not sure if it was changed or just a mistranslation from the fan translation
but yeah downgrade no matter what
i was so pissed that they changed it
i wanted to hear the line in english so bad
im not sure how they could do it maybe have a greedy scientist in the present make a time machine and accidently revive odio somehow or just though greed and wanting to make himself the ruler of time odio manifests in him
now its just how were gonna bring the old heroes back like
would it be some years after LAL or immediately after they got back to there old timelines so pretty much no time has past for them
maybe add 2 new heroes one being another scientist that wants to stop the other from fricking with the timeline
so pretty much adding a present time
idk maybe that could work
should have been more clear when i mean present i mean around matsu and akira
time wise but the whole time machine frickery could happen at any point in between these times
also i forgot to add to make chapters longer
i like the chapter but akira is a weak mc
he did get buffed in the remake but overall still not that good
cube just does healing better
(still wish if you beat the arcade game with the memory card cube would get caption squares moveset. that would have been so cool)
They didn't change the localization because there wasn't (an official) one to change to begin with. They simply took a route from the fan localization. Which, they would've legally had to anyway.
a different route*
>They did make the combat way too easy, that is the one big flaw.
>3 millions sold
>Already outsell the original
>Outsell FFXVI in japan
But Live A Live remake also outselled the original.
Combat was already too easy
>they did change the localization at points, dumb shit like making Akira steal money instead of the panties of the orphanage woman, which is pretty dumb
Weren't these straight up changes to the original script and not just the localization?
Yeah, the panties thing was changed even in japanese. It's still dumb, though. Given the girl's situation, stealing her money is outright crueler.
chapter has more olde english sounding dialogue, but overall it ends up working better since his english VA is really good
oersted chapter is kino once you realize everyone's speaking in iambic pentameter
>every VA in Middle Ages is a stage actor
KINOOOOOOOOO
>>they were so moronic they didn't realize that the first word of the prehistoric chapter was "AI/Love" instead of simply screaming AIEEEEEEEEE
It's both. That's the joke. It's not a joke that would translate though.
tfw monkeybro got a harem
Pretty sure it changed both in JP and EN which is shit, i'm not sure how much it changed but i could spot some obvious stuff
the pic related sex joke
Its weird they didn't fully remove it but changed the wording to be less explicit, idk if in the japanese is the same as the original,
>Do you know how much localization changed?
Every single line in the game was changed. There is not a single dialogue in the whole game that is completely faithful to the japanese script.
There are times when a character laughs but in the localization he is given whole dialogues and in a very specific chapter they near completely change a character's backstory and change the story to make a character who literally did nothing wrong into having been a selfish butthole all along.
>and in a very specific chapter they near completely change a character's backstory and change the story to make a character who literally did nothing wrong into having been a selfish butthole all along.
This is the first Im hearing of this. What chapter/character was it?
Medieval chapter. They changed a lot of Streibough's backstory when it comes to Alethea and the character they changed to having been a selfish butthole all along was Oersted
Listen, while I'm not trying to excuse the changes, I want to at least note that everything said is straight from Straybow's mouth. And let's not pretend he's a reliable narrator by any regard. Still a dumb change, but it's not black and white.
Iirc Alethea herself confirmed that she and Streybough were already in love before the story even began, which proved that he didn't lie in the shitty localization
Not really. Straybow is a petty butthole blinded by jealously who WE SEE USE DECEPTION to fake his own death, him saying Oersted was a selfish butthole is obviously suspect and not confirmed just because Alethea did love him
Alethea and Straybow being in love from the start massively changes the context of the whole opening act of the chapter. It makes Oersted into a selfish jackass who didn't care about that love and won her hand anyways.
What a moronic fricking change.
Not really. Oersted would only be a jackass if he knew Streibough and the Princess were in love, but he obviously didn't know, since Alethea and Steibough both give speeches to inform him of their love. It's like hitting on a chick at a bar who doesn't wear a wedding ring and finding out too late she had a husband - that's not you're fault, it's the fault of the dumb b***h who should have told people she loved Streibough
It's still a dumb and pointless change. I guess they wanted to make Straybow seem more reasonable?
no way, that was all him seething
You play as Oersted all along and know that he wasn't selfish and was just trying his best
>no way, that was all him seething
Unfortunately Alethea confirms it wasn't just seething and had at least some truth
>The b***h that betray him and wnet with the person that killed her father said
No she was just a seething b***h, guilty tripping him into thinking he was a bad person, at no moment aside of those two we are led to believe oersted is a bad person
That doesn't change the fact that they changed the story so that she and streybough knew each other before the story began and were always in love and just with that change alone the translation would suck.
Why would they even change that? What the frick.
Worth a playthrough if for nothing else than the new finale. It's really just another phase to Final Odio, but it really is fricking spectacular, and it's something I'd recommend experiencing yourself if you haven't already been spoiled. Just pirate/emulate it if you don't want to shell out however much for it, it's on Switch so it shouldn't be that hard.
>remake literally just adds a 5 minute long extra final boss phase but it's so fricking kino it singlehandedly makes it better than the original
love to see it
>when they have you control all seven heroes
>when they have you control Oersted for the final blow
PC version had its denuvo removed so it can be pirated now as well.
I love my wife Lei.
Why is she so underrated she deserves more art. Same with the Cave Girl Bel.
All i want is to one day see Steel Titan in SRW
>villain is evil because............ he got cucked
>cucked
He got so much more than that
>Sent on a quest to kill the demon lord
>Kill a shitty clone
>One of your two mentors dies in the fight against the clone
>Your best friend dies after in a collapse
>Demon Lord attacks you in the middle of the night in the castle
>But it's actually an illusion and you kill the King
>Your other mentor tells you to keep fighting so long as one person believes in you
>Other mentor dies
>Fight against demons, monsters, and royal guards to save the Princess, the one person who you think believes in you
>Surprise, your best friend wasn't dead and orchestrated everything to tarnish your name
>Kill Demon Lord Best Friend in self defense
>Save the princess at last, but actually she commits suicide and calls you a monster
Lose the one person who believed in you
Oersted had EVERYTHING taken from him, all for the crime of doing the right thing
I don’t blame Oersted for losing it, I probably would’ve gone insane too
Yes
damn based
nothing based about abandoning humanity because of some hole. Also, this situation is in no way comparable to Oersted's
Yeah people focus too much on the princess and they ignore all the nuances of Oersted story.
Oersted was tricked into killing the king, lost his glory as a champion, was branded as a demon, and everything was orchestrated by none other than the one he believed was his good friend. And all he really did wrong was fighting fair and won the tournament.
>Carlos
>Harry
He found himself a better girl! It's not the same!
This situation is not remotely the same, this guy didn't lost his mentors, he wasn't tricked into killing the king, wasn't demonized by the normies, wasn't specifically betrayed by his best friend out of petty jealousy and didn't suffer "suicide NTR", he was just cucked and even got a better girl at the end.
So is there a unofficial fan-translation available to fix the localization? I'm thinking ahead to 10 years down the line and someone downloading the remake having no clue what Pogo meant by "AIEEEE!".
Yeah, Live a Live's been fan-translated for ages, let me look for it
First result off of google lol
https://www.romhacking.net/translations/381/
There is 99% chance that he meant the remake, notice the word "localization" in his post
Shouldn't be too hard to take the fan translation and edit the script of the remake though, right?
Yes, but there were some new lines added in the remake iirc, and there were a couple instances where I think the remake did the translation better (i.e., the twist about The Prisoner's identity is kept secret until the ending in the remake whereas you just need to read the party tab to see it in the translation). Probably good to just use the old translation as a baseline, compare it to the remake, take what works, and then edit and revise from there.
He was cucked to death.
Sequel when?
Isnt Octopath a bit like an unofficial sequel or spiritual successor?
No. It's a really awful "in the style of..." imitation with writing that's somehow even worse despite coming out 30 years later.
Utterly tedious combat too.
Everything was Streighbou's fault for being such a little b***h.
>Isn't allowed to win the tournament
>Instead of just facing his fate like a man impersonates the demon lord and steals the princess
>Gets the OG hero killed
>Frames Oersted and the sage by getting the king killed and forcing the sage into a situation where he sacrifices himself for Oersted
>Gets taken out by Oersted because he's still fundamentally a little b***h
>Lies to the princess that he's her saviour when the entire time he's just been a piece of shit causing the princess to be so deluded she kills herself.
Oersted did literally nothing wrong. If I'd had everything I'd fought for taken from me by a snippy little b***h causing me to be chased out of the kingdom and denied my prize/love (not mentioning Streighbou's plan resulted in him dying because he's still fundamentally a b***h) I'd be so pissed it'd spread through time and space too.
Straybow also killed the legendary hero Hash through his actions
So what student did you end up with?
Yun
Discount Ranma
Rough Wild Sparring and Training!
Which leads into passionate sex
i do wonder how many people accidentally got the fat frick and then immediately reset, cus that's what happened for me
Their loss.
Fat Frick is the strongest but he's so goddamn slow
I didn't realize there was a choice and trained them all evenly. I gave the last training session to the kid. If I had of known there was a choice I would have chose the girl since the game is a sausage fest.
the fat kid
>girl
coomer choice
>kid
anime protagonist
Female because this game is already a Sausagefest as it is
Girl is objectively the best choice because her Speed is ridiculous and gives her a billion turns even without the training. With it she gets even more turns and also hits like the fist of an angry God.
>gives her a billion turns even without the training
Where she will miss 50% of the time
Still Love Lei, but yeah
Lei's the best of the three.
Plus it's fun having her lead an army of men in the final chapter.
Fat kid made for a really good story, honestly.
But that chapter is just amazing in general really.
Then there’s one line about sucking from mommy’s boobies.
Who at SE had this weird cuckold fetish and kept making heroines who cheat on the hero?
Why'd she do it, bros?
The man she loved died, why else?
for teh lulz
For a second I thought this was AI art. Has that look to it.
>be princess
>your entire future and who you'll marry is left up to the winner of a tournament
>the mage you were rooting for loses to his best friend, a mute blonde
>get kidnapped by demons
>trapped and left to pray that the knight who won you like a prize proves to be noble and heroic enough to save you
>stuck waiting and waiting
>finally get found; instead of the knight, its the mage
>tells you that the knight was just an butthole the whole time, cries about always being in his shadow, how he's the REAL hero, etc.
>no reason to doubt him
>knight arrives to fight the mage, your true lover
>knight kills him
>suicide because you believe you have no future where you can be happy
>turns out you were gaslit the entire time
>the knight did in fact love you and went through the worst adventure imaginable trying to save you
>an heroing was the event that made him snap and embrace his hatred
>now indirectly responsible for the death of your entire kingdom and, potentially, the entire world
>can't even move on to the afterlife
>stuck looking at the ghost of the guy who gaslit you while trapped in a dungeon
>even if the knight is defeated, none of the lives lost will be restored including your own
I really wish we got to see more of Alethea's and Streibough's reactions to the aftermath of The Lord of Dark. If Streibough just manned up, talked to Oersted about his feelings at the start of the chapter, and didn't keep the secret panel hidden from everyone, everything could've been avoided easily. I understand the moral of Live a Live is that we're all responsible for our reactions to the hardships we face, but not having Streibough reflect on that theme more is incredibly missed potential.
You got two facts wrong though:
>your entire future and who you'll marry is left up to the winner of a tournament
In japanese iirc the winner was only given the possibility of courting her.
>the mage you were rooting for loses to his best friend, a mute blonde
Made up by the localization
>In japanese iirc the winner was only given the possibility of courting her.
Well, the king says the winner shall receive 求婚する権利, the right to propose marriage to her. But after Oersted wins she says she'd be glad to be Oersted's wife, and the king says "Let us celebrate the victor, and his marriage to Alicia (アリシアとの結婚を)-- nay, let us celebrate the two who will build the future of Lucretia". I guess it could be implied that when the king gives you permission to propose to his daughter you cannot refuse.

List your favorite chapter hard mode no medieval era
Mine was Akira's
China. Love me some kung-fu bullshit.
Prehistoric, baby
Far Future close second, I have a soft spot for Cube
Prehistoric settings in games are so rare.
>MEEEEHHHHH
>MEEEEEEEHHHHH
What did she mean by this?
I really liked the Ninja chapter. As far as I'm concerned they could have easily made a complete game out of its premise.
They did, it's called Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Oboromaru, I just like the idea of being able to affect the chapter in some small way by deciding to do something or not. Same with the wild west and deciding to fight mad dog or not.
The China one. I love my wife Lei.
Prehistoric by far
Prehistoric with Street Fighter Megaman as a close second
Everyone may hate Near Future but Akira is the best MC.
People hate Near Future?
I see it often get called the worst chapter of the game, yeah.
bunch of tasteless homosexuals, I swear
I have a love/hate relationship with it
>best designs
>definitive rpg for /m/
>more character and personality than almost every other Chapter
>most interesting cast
>story is very dynamic
>Akira, while not optimal, has a fun playstyle due to his versatility
>everything about Steel Titan
>pacing is sluggish compared to the other chapters
>Dr. Tobei item refinement drags the pacing to a halt so badly I wouldn’t blame people for avoiding it entirely
>mind-reading , despite being unique conceptually, is fairly boring in-game
>zero explanation provided for what’s in the beer being served at the bar despite being plot important
>remake turns Akira from a pervert to a shameless thief willing to rob his own caretaker (the localization supposedly tones this down a bit, but the original remake script in JP is blatantly unforgiving)
The manga adapatation is unironically the definitive way to experience Near Future since it trims a lot of filler, fleshes out Lawless and Akira’s father more, and generally just makes the story and characters a lot more interesting - and without having Akira steal from the orphanage. All that said, Akira’s probably my favorite character, and the writing from Near Future stuck with me more than most of the other Chapters sans-Oersted and endgame stuff
>remake turns Akira from a pervert to a shameless thief willing to rob his own caretaker (the localization supposedly tones this down a bit, but the original remake script in JP is blatantly unforgiving)
I played the game in French and while the localization was pretty good, Akira really felt like an ungrateful butthole to me
It was probably one of my least favorite ones. It's just too long.
People hate Near Future?
Ness would clear Akira
>when Square still had SOVL
What the frick is wrong with that gif
Weird, for some reason it exported with both layers visible in the second frame
What's your personal rating for each chapter? Medieval and Final are optional, we all already know the answer
>Prehistoric
Peak slapstick and filled with charm. Only negative I guess is that Odo didn't get enough time to shine, but his role in the story still works well. Not much to say about it other than its a fun experience all around, though its staying power is minimal
>Feudal Japan
Best gameplay and feeling of player choice in the game. While the story isn't much to speak of, the premise and execution more than make up for it. The number one chapter where repeat playthroughs are a must
>Wild West
Kidd as a glass cannon is fantastic and fits the theme well, but basing the entire chapter around setting up traps for a single boss fight was a weird choice that I wasn't too crazy about. I think I would've liked a premise like A Fistful of Dollars where Kidd infiltrates the gang to sabotage their raid on the town instead, then having the boss fight and the number of enemies in it vary like the original chapter. The rivalry with Mad Dog sells the chapter however
>China
A very basic premise and setup until the second half of the chapter where things finally get interesting. Despite the differences in potential successors, I dont really know if its worth replaying unless you're that interested in seeing what the others have for dialogue and interactions.
>Modern
Best combat and second best version of Odio. I don't have much to say about it other than loving the mechanic for learning your opponents' skills and the SF2 love letter
>Near Future
Would be the best chapter if it weren't for the sluggish pacing. The ending is annoyingly anticlimactic as well.
>Distant Future
Best chapter of the starting 7. If I'm not mistaken, this is the original inspiration for RPG Maker horror games. Does a fantastic job of making the conflict in the crew feel very real and human. Might be one of the most satisfying Odio fights in the game
>execution
heh
For me it's
Prehistoric > Distant Future > Feudal Japan > Near Future > Medieval > Wild West > China > Modern
I did not care for Distant Future.
What would YOU want in a LAL sequel?
More LAL.
Ice age section.
War scenario
I just want more of the combat system, man. Mind-boggling that only a shitty chinese game ever tried to copy it. You could do some real fun stuff with it.
Longer chapters
Taking control as a Furry Anthro? Maybe different kind of Anthro Species and at the end they would meet with the Human protagonists.
>What would YOU want in a LAL sequel?
That Oersted comes back and gets a happy ending.
Shorter chapters, more wacky scenarios & monkey breasts
Goddamn LP archive and their broken GIFs
>Ancient Greece
>Pirates
>Post-Apocalypse
There are a few others but I forgot. All done in their associated literary/film/vidya genres to make each one distinct like the original game. A Homeric style Greek chapter would be especially fun
>people suck this game off
>play it
>it's just a bunch of half baked stories with barebones gameplay
Odiobro btw
i wish octopath was nearly as good as live a live
Don't know if they fixed it in 2, but in the original Octopath the various heroes didn't interact much despite being in the same party.
They still don't interact much in the second game, but more than the first. They added a handful of mini-chapters that pair up four sets of characters, and the finale has more interaction between everyone compared to the first game.
What makes Live A Live likeable or stand out to you?
I like how distinct each chapter is, how they slowly start to link together with the watanbes and Odie. I like how after playing as the seven heroes you learn why Odio ended up like he did, and boy did they justify the heck out of it.
I like how in the last chapter you get to have an entire party full of the various protagonists.
The music is a big plus. Also, it keeps you on your toes. I thought I knew the formula when I got to Medieval chapter and thus was thrown for a loop when all the suffering hit
How ahead of its time it is. Each story is basically a different genre, ranging from sci-fi horror to Street Fighter parody. And in the end you find out you were playing as the fricking villain. With all the what-a-tweest moments in vidya, I always wanted a game where it would turn out the character you controlled was the villain and you, the player, didn't know it. Who would have guessed such a game had already been released in fricking 1994.
>1994
They butchered the medieval chapter so hard in the remake, the english version specially
>everyone speaks in really verbose shakespearean english that gets old fast
>difficulty drop makes all the fights a joke, Claustrophobia and Gynophobia got hit extra hard
>they gave Oersted battle dialogue making his breakdown way less effective.
I like the iambic pentameter. Agreed they should have waited until the end of the chapter to give Oersted dialogue
>I like the iambic pentameter
My biggest gripe with it is how it makes the final message of the game so obtuse, I might just be a moron, but if I hadn't played the snes version first, I would have no idea what Oersted's warning was when you beat him.
Cube
but he sphere
This game was a fricking masterpiece and I will be FOREVER fricking MAD that we didn't get this when we should have. This would have been a huge influence in the west had it made it over, but no, it never did.
FRICK Square for this.
>In an interview with the magazine Super Play, Square localization staff member Ted Woolsey said that its overseas release was unlikely due to its low graphical quality compared to other popular titles at the time
You just know that's cover for "It has breasts and sex in it"
Shill me this game
Playable Canterbery Tales/Hyperion + Wrestlemania & ninjas.
>Hyperion
The titan?
The novel.
Which NTR was harsh? Livealive or bahamut lagoon?
I've only read that one article but I'd say the Bahamut Lagoon one
Live-A-Live was worse. Bahamut Lagoon let's protagonist not give a crap about the princess via dialogue choices from the very beginning so the romance is there only if you want it, and there is plenty people in the game that drools over protag.
Live-A-Live NTR is set in stone and there is nothing you can do about that.
Bahamut Lagoon. Live A Live's NTR was there to give Oersted motivation. BL's was there because the writer was a seething homosexual out of a bad break up.
I hate Kanji so fricking much. I get the utility but frick me
I thought that added last boss was really lame. I went in completely unprepared and it was still piss-easy. I did like the caveman post victory cutscene I'll give it that
