Is there a modder working to fix the game? I was thinking of playing it next year.

There are some interesting mods but nothing that is a must install, i'd say to just wait for the first big DLC

How the frick does "westernization" even work as a mechanic? It wasn't in vicky 2. Also, considering it is a game, it should be possible for china to be a great power.
Don't really know about the economy thing. It's easier to oversee than in vicky 2
turd positionism wasn't even a term at that time. It's a Cold War era term. and what do you mean by reddit political compass?

Their problem was making warfare a chore to play and having no difference between playing japan and sweden

In V3 to "westernize" you have to beat another great power, which is basically impossible for the current AI since its not that competent, as a mechanic it makes a lot of sense since irl the only "unrecognized" country that managed to become a superpower was Japan and they only did that by beating Russia

Vic 3 conflated sovereignty and recognition with westernization
Tribes in North America were recognized as having sovereign control of their territory for centuries, with defined borders, rule of law and constitutions, but it didn't stop the US for repeatedly breaking treaties with them
In Africa, Europeans signed treaties with a few nations that they considered sovereign (what vic3 would call "recognized") but didn't bother with diplomacy with the hundreds of other tribes that ended up in the territory they carved up because they weren't considered sovereign in the world stage
Vic3 mixed up two systems instead of making them separate, if you want to make random tribes in the Congo playable instead of being empty tiles to colonize, you should have to become "recognized" ie. adopt laws, borders, maybe Christianity
            This is different from Westernizing

The hardest I've ever laughed in my life was the dev stream showing the war system, with the "Opium War" having a million British casualties from land invading China, and ending with UK annexing landlocked Yunnan

the whole mechanic is dumb imo, cuz it implies that the only way to progress is to become western when other ways exist
it's a lazy system, but the current replacement is even more lazy

            >the whole mechanic is dumb imo, cuz it implies that the only way to progress is to become western
that is factually true though. Countries that westernized like Japan are objectively better places to live than countries that didn't westernize like India.

      >turd positionism wasn't even a term at that time. It's a Cold War era term
my ESL memory thought it meant fascism/communism, I concede this point
      >and what do you mean by reddit political compass?
you know exactly what I mean
      >It wasn't in vicky 2.
      Never played an unciv?
Civilizing China breaks the game because the simulation takes no factors in account for imports, everything is one market

      not him but yes

      >it implies that the only way to progress is to become western when other ways exist
They could have expanded the mechanic greatly and make it more meaningful instead of a timer you wait through until you can start research
As an unciv you'd have to balance the influence of westerners, so you can develop and become recognized in the world stage while balancing the risk of your people revolting for selling to the white man, or western influences in your country couping you like Hawaii
Except they discarded everything instead of making it interesting
