did you guys like this series is it worth playing through?
I just beat the first game. holy frick was this game was hard. by the end of it you're so fricking good you blow the boss rush away... a million retry chips later. that said I didn't use element chips or elfs until the final boss... mostly cause I'm an idiot not cause I wanted the challenge.
Oh abso-fricking-lutely. The first game had a steep difficulty curve, but the rest of the games are the X formula refined.
Also, watch the commercials. They were a feast for the eyes:
They were made in Capcom’s platinum years where Inafune made the weird decision to let artists lead all the projects and everything magically was turning out great.
wow those commercials are pretty epic aha. I actually really like the redesign! reminds me more of classic mega man art then the x series
and then every otaku started using the style on everything making me hate it thanks for the memory
Jesse
>and then every otaku started using the style on everything
Where? When I see that style, it's always Toru Nakayama drawing it, with only rare exceptions drawn by Makoto Yabe as he says he deeply admires Nakayama.
Speaking of cool Rockman commercials...
>launchOctopus.webm
"she" has (at least) 7 fewer tentacles
>mfw they ADDED lewd sounds in the psp remake
Megaman zero for psp?
x
I think he means the Nintendo Switch release
Sauce?
huh?!
simply fight launch octo in megaman x on psp
the sucking and screaming sounds await
it's not lewd, octopus just sounds like a gay in the remake, which is fitting for him honestly. he and volt kraken were probably lovers, also kraken is male but he speaks like a woman
even more degenerate
no i meant what i typed
Oh I thought you meant Leviathan
I did like them. I think I liked every Mega Man series I can think of. I hear the companies new games are good too, but I can't remember what they're called. They apparently play like Mega Man Zero though.
oh no way they're the gunvolt guys? thats pretty wild
>gunvolt
That's it. Mega Man Zero and Gunvolt are both Inti Creates. I've heard Gunvolt is similar, but I have not played them so I don't know.
They look similar and the series is basically another Megaman spin-off in all but name, but the gameplay is very different. Instead of the traditional jump'n shoot Gunvolt's focused more on tagging enemies with your pistol and then dealing real damage with his area of effect skill, the flashfield. It's significantly easier than most of Inti's Megaman output if you just play to beat the stage and move on, but the real emphasis is on getting high scores and combos.
The sequels also let you play as GV's rival, Copen, but his gameplay is a completely different beast.
The weeb idolgay in me loves how you get jpop music as a reward for playing good. Absolute geniuses, especially since it incorporated into the story
this game has so many anime tropes, it stops being charming real fast
>anime tropes
I find it funny because to me it's closer to 80's and 90's X-Men type of drama with a dash (heh) of Mega Man.
I could live with all that, the real problem is it's not any fricking fun to play.
At first I liked this game. The music was pretty good, especially Sinners Row. Then I really really started to fricking hate this game. It was the electric field he does that makes it hard to see the enemy projectiles. It was just flashy diarrhea on the screen. I played the X series, the Zero series, and the ZX series, but I couldn't finish the first Gunvolt.
These games are so fricking good they're amongst the best Mega Man games, also Leviathan is a babe
> based mega lad
> leviathan is a babe
this guy x sabers
I liked it. The ranking system is a pain in the ass if you want to get S on every mission but the challenge of trying to pass every stage perfectly is great.
1 and 2 are very difficult with certain design choices many don't like, but it gets better on the other games: gameplay peaks on 3 and 4 gets funky with the Glove gimmick but the conclusion makes it worth the time.
The music is great through all four games, so give a listen to the arranged soundtracks when you can.
>also.
Shield > Tonfa > Chain Whip > Glove > Spear
These games are unplayable we need a widescreen version ASAP
wrong thread dude
MegaMan Zero is so great. Awesome gameplay, fantastic sprite art, a memorable aesthetic, and a concise engaging self contained story with a beginning middle and end. They don't make them like this anymore
I have never played the Mega Man series, just downloaded X.
>first level
>ok
>get to the first map selection screen
>go to the forest one
>the chameleon boss is literally unbeatable
>you're supposed to go to another area first and defeat another boss to get the weapon you need to beat him
what a fricking moronic game, why do you let me play an area if I can't beat the boss in it? There isn't even an option in the menu to say "exit this level and go back to the map"
SHIT game
and the characters look like Sonic but robots
That's nice, dear.
i agree except extend this criticism to every MM game excepts legends 1/2
>I can't beat the boss
Every boss can be beaten with the base weapon, you just suck.
Post a recording of yourself beating that boss straight with no upgrades
You literally cannot hit it
Please just admit you're moronic.
Oh you can grab on walls what the frick
You can't even beat the opening stage without wall jumps. Iron that out of your shtick before trying this bait again but otherwise good effort.
>You can't even beat the opening stage without wall jumps
Am I... seriously this moronic?
...Bros...
yes
When the bee copter collapses and takes you and the bridge down with it you can't escape without wall jumps. It's actually a great way of organically teaching the player.
it's been a while since i last played the game, but can't you stand on the right where the enemy is so that you won't fall? although, it falls right away, so you'd probably have to kill it while standing there, which is unlikely
No, you have to fall down on the pit by the second Bee Blader and climb up. It's mandatory. Even the manga where X cries had this kek.
Both of the Bee Bladers let you stand behind them where the bridge doesn't collapse. (second one is pic related) So it's not outright impossible to have beaten the intro without learning how to wall-jump, though I heavily doubt OP would think to damage boost directly them on a first playthrough, and not stay back to the left.
OP also didn't specify whether Sting was impossible because of the boss fight being really fricking hard, or because of the required wall-jump (pic related) to make it there in the first place.
>OP also didn't specify whether Sting was impossible because of the boss fight being really fricking hard, or because of the required wall-jump (pic related) to make it there in the first place.
No, he definitely made it to the boss.
>Post a recording of yourself beating that boss straight with no upgrades
>You literally cannot hit it
He wouldn't have specified "hit it" if he was stuck on the ledge in the middle of the stage. OP made it to the boss (which requires walljumps in the middle of the stage like you said) and is therefore a homosexual
Legends Roll is best Roll.
This has to be bait. The intro stage forces you to use the wall jump after the second Bee Blader (the helicopter bee mech) since the pit is too deep and you gotta climb back. How can you NOT know?
>This has to be bait.
I know this is a rare occurrence but no... I was NOT pretending to be moronic. Somehow I just forgot about wall jumps whenever I dd the boss fight. I blame the heat. Gomennasai...
at least we know you have to be moronic to hate mmx
Zero still looks way cooler than X tho
FALSE, GLASS breasts.
The X, Zero and ZX series all rely on using Wall Jumping smartly to dodge enemy attacks. X1 is arguibly the easiest game with this formula so please keep it in mind it's part of your movement arsenal.
ZXA is easier
You're honest at least. Now go forth and improve your skill, proceed to Busterfrick everything in your path.
Also protip: Go to the penguin's stage first. You'll want the cool boots.
>Sting's camo sound effect sounds off
ZSNES, everyone
> mega man zero thread
> complains about mega man x
I've literally never beaten Sting Chameleon with his weakness even in the rematch.
You can do the bosses in any order if you git gud. When I was a kid I used to do Penguin first since he's the easiest one but nowadays I go for Mammoth first.
I always do penguin first to get dash boots, then eagle for the helmet, mammoth for early charge shot, then mandril, armadillo, octopus, kuwanger, chameleon with the respective weaknesses
Why do you tards talk like the boots are some kind of secret meta aspect of the game and not literally impossible to not pick up? It's impossible to progress the stage without them. You're as bad as the guy saying he didn't know he could wall jump.
aha ya we’re trying to tell the guy who gave up at stinger to play penguin first my dude. It’s not that it’s a secret it’s that having dash makes the game 10x more fun. which is probably why they just start you with it every x and zero game afterwards.
>tfw it turns out I was not actually THAT moronic!
Playing the game without the boots IS fun. Feels a bit more like a classic Mega Man game this way.
Aha, I mean sure. Replaying 1 and 2 is fun. We've had the slide since mega man 3 (and the charge shot in 4) so the added mobility and speed has been part of the game for a while.
Same. They're both easy and I like doing Mammoth first because as a kid I always did Penguin first and so didn't see the normal version of Mammoth's stage for years. So, now I just like doing it first to see it.
>I always do penguin first to get dash boots, then eagle for the helmet, mammoth for early charge shot, then mandril, armadillo, octopus, kuwanger, chameleon with the respective weaknesses
this is the way. X feels way worse without the boots... weaknesses are whatever but playing with no boots feels bad
>not beating all the bosses with the buster for extra challenge
while saving launch octopus for the end so he can tentacle the pink suit
L-LEWD!!
I'm sure as frick you can kill all bosses with just buster in all games. I literally never knew bosses were weak to certain weapons and just always beat them with buster
Imagine being filtered by fricking X1
The series gets better as it goes on.
This. All games in it are good minus X7 (which may be secretly good/decent, according to some anon that said you need to play long enough to unlock X and his upgrade armor)
i want to bang leviathan so fricking much
I liked it a lot. Feels very good to play, has a nice aesthetic, fairly challenging.
The only real complaint is that the screen is a bit zoomed in which makes playing it in a fast paced manner a bit harder than it should be. But it's not TOO bad and you can still have a lot of fun blazing through stages.
There are also a lot of autists who cry and fart and shit themselves over anything vaguelly action-rpg-ish and insist that the totally optional cyber-elves (which the game is more or less balanced around not using and exist only as an easy mode crutch and the game actively guilt trips you for using) somehow ruin the game. But they're homosexual autist morons and not worth considering.
With every new Zero game they got easier and easier. The first is the only one with real challenge. Zero 2 i played at points with one hand as i was eating snacks and beat 4 bosses that way. All are good but you’ll never get the challenge of the first one again. Personally 2 is my favorite, opening scene in the desert is sex.
2 is harder than 1 and 4 is harder than 3. 3's really the only Zero game that's legitimately easy.
2 is far easier than 1, 3 is far easier than 2, and 4 is only slightly harder than 3 because of the glove
What are you guys smoking? Even back then Z4 was seen as "disappointing" for being easier than Z3.
As an anon that bought all these games on release and loves them an embarrassing amount, Z4 is 100% harder than Z3, so long as you're approaching it from a normal mid-gamer standpoint. There's the regressive QoL changes re: cyber elves, weaponry and chips - making it so that you had to wait til endgame to enable significant elf effects and couldn't just get double satellites right off the bat, hiding stuff like shadow dash and double jump behind esoteric recipe deciphering and random part drops, and stripping you of boomerang+rod weapons in favor of a fist/weapon steal with short range and questionable trial and error utility; there's the mission weather system that basically forces you into obnoxious gimmicks for every stage if you don't want to get penalized on rankings; and, and this is the big one for me, the way in which you have to dodge enemy attacks is way more technical in ways you really wouldn't... expect, for the last game in a same-engine quadrilogy?
Take pic related (and his awesome theme, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYoUqLB1vL0); I *distinctly* remember tearing my hair out as a kid trying to figure out how to no-hit him, because that charged laser gun attack of his is almost 100% undodgable by jumping without chip enhancements - the window's like two frames long to juuuust barely skirt your toes over the top of it at the last possible second. And that's because you're SUPPOSED to dash under it... but the fact that dashing actually lowers the size of your effective hitbox for its duration isn't something that's ever established or forced upon you earlier in the series, so it was an entire mechanic I'd missed from Z1 up through Z3.
And this was coming from a guy so crazy in love with the series I'd spent weeks doing an on-cart Z3 100pt buster only run to unlock the last set of minigames; I was and am legit pretty good at these things, but Z4 definitely ratchets the difficulty back up a notch, at least when blind.
>so long as you're approaching it from a normal mid-gamer standpoint
You'll have to explain what you mean by this. If I understand, you grind crystals to enhance Zero? But then you miss out on EX Skills, which nulls any advantage Cyber Elves in Z2 and Z3 might have. Z4 gives you the advantage of a Cyber Elf for free from the get go and keep building from it AND gives you the EX Skills without any sort of punishment. If anything while Z2 and Z3 kept unique aspects (like expecting you to keep your base health and learn the combat system properly), Z4 feels like it deals back into being a regular MMX game.
Yeah I wasn't really sure how to phrase that; I essentially just wanted to express 'it's harder if you're playing it with a normal gamer mindset, IE you aren't necessarily concerned with maxxing challenge, but you will avoid explicit easy mode crutches'.
Like, Z4 DOES allow you to max out all your elf skills super easy, and it DOES let you essentially select easy mode on a per-stage basis, and if you're consulting a guide you can probably whip up subtanks or useful chips earlier than in Z3 (I honestly can't remember)... but in the same way your typical player doesn't really use many Z1/Z2 style cyber elves due to the inherent ranking penalties, I don't see those toggles as something your typical Rockman player is gonna use with any frequency - more like a Mario Bros. guide mode than anything.
It's definitely more forgiving than Z1/Z2 in having those toggles at all, and probably about equal when just bashing your head with the only goal of *finishing* a stage, no matter how well - but when trying to play with any sort of finesse, Z3's easier across the board, IMO. And just to qualify that even more, here's an embarassing MMZ3 challenge fight I uploaded in rotten potato quality over a decade ago - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO5vluqF9sY - I was REALLY searching for difficulty in that one, 'cause while I've always thought Z4 harder Z3's just got the better overall aesthetic, barring the phenomenal Z4 end.
I think that's where I got confused. From personal experience back in the day with some of the kids/teens who did play MMZ and weren't big Mega Man fans, I saw plenty of them grinding the Elves because otherwise "these games are imposible". Granted, it's a small sample pool and it's my own account, not any proof of anything, but just explaining my image of the "normal mid-gamer" person touching MMZ. I only met people in Mega Man forums beating the games legit and going for all EX Skills (and Forms in Z2).
zero 4 is easier than 3 but i also want to bang levaithan badly
I think it's the most consistent in terms of quality of ANY of the Mega Man series, but Z1 is some bullshit difficulty.
Zero is my favorite MM series overall, although each game is flawed, most notably you have to grind weapon levels in Z1 and Z2, otherwise you can't even charge your weapons.
ZX and ZXA are also worth checking out. Basically the same thing, but you also get to play as the 4 guardians. It's a bit like Demon's Crest (another MM clone made by Capcom) where you can switch between different forms at any time.
>aliens
why would you go into a mega man zero/x thread and not even know anything about the games? that's a maverick, aka a robot criminal with human ai, so you know he'd be willing to rape other robots, including the cop that's after him
>not getting ravaged for parts
why even live
absolugely bisgusting
Holy shit I want to bang leviathan so much my hips are already thrusting uncontrollably
does she even know what sex is? and if she does would she be willing to do it with a fleshbag?
she is built for fricking
Built for big human wiener
wtf zero bros... ciel is only 12? the reploids are actually stupid how the frick do they expect this literal baby to do anything. somehow she can deactivate bombs tho I guess?
Wait, is this a retcon? Didn't prior sources state she was 14 in Z1? And 7 when she built Copy X in tje artbook thing
oh cool thats pretty wild where is that story? just in the art books and stuff or is there some sort of official comic or whatever?
The artbook and Japanese websites used to contain these details. The 2010 Rockman zero site had tidbits that after MM10 Dr Light worked so no virus could affect X to explain X5 and there's an official Audio Play made by Inti where ww learn other details like reploids can't sing. They only play a playback of what they heard but can't truly sing with the MMZ technology.
I forgot to add, her grandma genetically experimented on her according to the complete works book thing and that's why she was a super genius who was able for the first time to analyze Dr. Light's designs on X
I always appreciated mega man in general for the excellent art style and graphics. I was never, ever very good at them because I can't be bothered but, I'd keep playing to see more shit. Zero is not exclusive in that quality.
I'd keep playing the games just to see what else the devs decided to put in them.
i don't think i've made it clear enough how much i want to bang leviathan
Me too, but firing the blaster up her ass.
I hate her stages and boss fights to no end.
Bumo
thanks for the recommend /vr/! these games played like x4 or ninja gaiden which I also love. I played the switch version with checkpoints. (highly recommend for x noobs like me...) some of the bosses took me a lot of practice. played a little of the zx series, but metriodvanias aren't my thing... the controls are buttery smooth tho.
zero 1 - good
zero 2 - great
zero 3 - amazing
zero 4 - good
the series peeked at 3! the story and ending in 4 were good... but 3 was just epic. the entire series story in general was great. zero 3 had no leveling, cool chip collectables, fun combos, switchable elements / body types. I may have started this series an edgeboy, but finished it an edgeman.
luv ZX
>luv ZX
what'd you like about it? the first boss was fun then I looked up the map and noped out for now. I feel like we've had a decade of indie (and AAA) metroidvanias. just need a break from that genre.
yeah the map doesn't really add anything to the game but once you know where you're going and once you're in the levels it's a great game. My advice to anybody playing is to use a walkthrough because dicking around in the open world really isn't worth it. The sequel Advent basically gets rid of the map too
Z4 ending part is personally one of the most epic moments in videogames.
Weil is scum of the highest order and you know Zero is going to fight until the end.
It is similar to what happened to Shadow the hedgehog in Adventure 2, and unlike Shadow, Zero didn't return from the grave.
Biometal Z is not Zero.
