the game has no ending, you fricking moron. the cut mission is just part of peoples complaints, the story goes nowhere and the game just ends with zero fanfare or anything, and none of the stuff its been building up to lead to any payoff, like the metal gear youre building.

The script confirmed that it was a DLC.

Chapter 3 is Peace was meant to be after the nuke disarmament
                This

The only thing the datamined findings “prove” is that a title card for Chapter 3 was, at one point, meant to play during the game. Occam’s razor dictates that the explanation that requires the least assumptions is the most likely.

Given the subtitle “Peace,” a likely candidate for this would be after the FOB nuclear disarmament cutscene was triggered. This is supported by former Kojima Productions LA community manager, Robert Allen Peeler, though the title card has yet to appear after several false disarmaments. Still, this doesn’t mean the title card wasn’t at least intended to be used for the disarmament cutscene at some point during development, only to be later removed for unknown reasons.

Ah, I get it now, we wasted all of this time building up our second antagonist and the kids he leads for him to simply fly away into the distance to never return. Makes perfect sense.

                Anonymous

It's a sidestory that would be resolved in a DLC. It's not the main story. You can look up how the story would resolve online. There are cutscenes, concept art and script from the DLC. Mantis and Liquid fly away, that's just it.

And Skullface dying unceremoniously was something that is thematically fitting and Kojima did on purpose.

                >According to Hideo Kojima's notes in the Piggyback Collector's Edition Guide's art gallery, Skull Face's role is that, while he is indeed the story's villain and antagonist, his character is not simply about Good and Evil: He has lost something, which results in him suffering from the phantom pain. He also states that his absence will leave the player with a sense of lasting phantom pain. He also explains in the same source that the reason he doesn't have a standard boss battle is to further promote the theme of a chain of revenge, a phantom pain, the continuous chain that one experiences when a target of vengeance is gone, something that would not have been possible via a standard boss fight, unlike most stories where good vs. evil encounters are given in Hollywood movies to satisfy the audience.

Especially since the main theme of the epilogue is that after the target of revenge is gone the motherbase falls into paranoia and turns on itself.

You saved children who wouldn't respect you for shit, they only respected Eli.

Let's say that the DLC gets released today.
One extra mission where you take Sahelanthropus back and Liquid meets up with Mantis and the mission ends.

What now? The main story is somehow better because you know, ummm, that the Liquit met with Mantis?

                Anonymous

Yes the main story is better because it would actually get resolved. I get to see the third act of the story and get a satisfying conclusion to the character they spent hours building up, it's not a difficult concept.

                Anonymous

It doesn't get resolved at all, you still have no idea what will Eli do.
The only thing that got resolved was that you get the Sahelanthropus back, nothing else.

That's not even a third act. It's one mission. And storywise the only thing that happens is that you get the scraps of sahelanthropus back. The best interaction between Venom and Liquid in the whole DLC is actually a cutscene that you can watch on youtube.

Mission 51 is barely an ending. I'd say it's less conclusive that Man Who Sold The World and Skullface's defeat.
It's just DLC where you'd fight in a marshland visually similar to Africa, and you'd re-enact the Sahalanthropus boss fight for the third time but against Eli, and the ending would only tie Eli to MGS1, not actually conclude anything.

holy shit how is this game so expensive now? I bought this shit for $6 in 2020. Obviously played it on PS4 at launch but grabbed the PC port when I saw it was dirt cheap.

            guy reporting.

Unironically it is stupid as frick to play MGSV as your first Metal Gear. I would strongly recommend playing every single game in the series (including Metal Gear 1 and 2), in release order. I know so many people who did this and none of them actually appreciated what the game was trying to do in terms of bridging the gap between MGS3 + PO and Peace Walker towards Metal Gear 1. That was the main purpose of this title. There are references to events and characters in every single game in the series in MGSV. For those who actually knew the series well, it could be very rewarding and explain a lot of the missing gaps in the story. For those who never played Metal Gear.... I have no idea. I can't even imagine not knowing Metal Gear.

There's a reason why Hideo Kojima is the single most famous game developer on Earth besides Shigeru Miyamoto, and it's because of Metal Gear.

Hidetaka Miyazaki is more famous than Kojima.

No he isn't. Famous film directors, actors, rappers, talk show hosts and politicians aren't taking time out of their busy schedules to meet Miyazaki. Miyazaki has never been invited to star on TV shows made by Nicolas Winding Refn, nor has he ever had his entire persona parodied by Black Mirror. Only perpetually online nerds and people involved in games journalism even know who Miyazaki is.

Kojima is on an entire different level. He's met pretty much every actor or director he's ever wanted to, mostly because they wanted to meet him. Conan O'Brien basically worships the guy like he's a god. Think about that: a 6'4" Irishman who's been on late night tv for decades worships a small Japanese manlet who likes to make young white actresses show them his feet. There's no existence in this universe that even comes close to Kojima. Kanye himself went out of his way while in Japan to meet Kojima.

The only game creator who even comes close to Kojima's orbit in terms of fame, is Miyamoto. Because Miyamoto is the guy who created fricking Mario. And I'm honestly willing to bet money that more people know who Kojima is at this point that Miyamoto.

Ground Zeroes is nothing like the old MGS games, it a pretty large and open level, which is not something you ever find in the previous games. Phantom Pain's level design follows on GZ, but with an emphasis on the open world enabling multiple entry routes, but there is less attention to detail.

          Anonymous

GZ is just a demo for the game. It's like telling people to play The Tanker part of MGS2 and skip the rest because you don't like it personally. Which I'm sure people did back then.

They probably decided against making any level like Ground Zeroes since it's too much work for very little content. Getting in and out of the base is super easy.

Story stops halfway through at a very awkward moment and from that point all the game offers you are more difficult variants of missions you've already played. It's pretty obvious padding and the "ending" they give feels very unsatisfying.

It was mechanically good, but then they never did anything with it. The plot is just random setpiece trash with no cohesion. The missions are almost all extremely bland and not really crafted encounters; they just threw down some guard patrols and said 'kill this guy'. The base building is wafer-thin and basically pointless. The characters are probably the strongest element but nothing that happens makes any sort of sense so the character actions and motivations are all just confusing. And then adding to that they couldn't resist going full Kojima with shit like the ol' bomb-in-the-vegana.

It's a broken, unfinished stupid story with mostly dull, repetitive missions despite having a really good basis to make a game out of, since the combat and shooting and other systems would all be great in a game that was actually complete and polished.

The ONLY missing content is about getting the Sahelanthropus back and two "kids" meeting with each other, that's all there is to it.
And that was supposed to be the DLC anyway like this anon said

What kind of ending did you expect if you're saying the product is unfinished?

              Is it worth the price?
Never played a Metal Gear game before.

To answer your question, it's a great game when compared to everything else being released, but it's an average MGS game.
I wouldn't advise you to play the game tho before playing other MG and MGS games first, you really don't want to ruin the story and experience of the best series ever invented.
Just take your time and start with mg1, or at least read the story about mg1 and mg2 and start with MGS1 (PS1 obviously, ignore the nintendo remake, it's shit).

The ending to the story they were telling. Even if it was meant to be israeli DLC that doesn't somehow make the story complete.

                They did tell you tho.
BB is building one base and you're building another.
BB gave you the tape about the plans for the operation N131 (MG1).
So what else do you need?

                Anonymous

The dumbest thing is that you get the useless remains of Sahelanthropus back and that's it. That's the story of the DLC. Mantis and Liquid get away and then MGS1 happens. I'm sure it would be fun to play and that's why people are mad it's not in the game. But it doesn't make the game incomplete.

I find the whole story about Venom Snake so much more interesting than this that I can't imagine how anyone would consider this a game changing ending instead of the mirror scene. Yes I would kill for a MG1 Remake from Venoms perspective but it will never happen.

Mantis and Liquid meeting with each other and getting the Sahelanthropus is literally just a bonus DLC that has nothing to do with the Punished Snake and starting the operation N131.
I think people are just mad because they didn't play with BB and they're crying how the game is incomplete.

Its very much incomplete, like blatantly so. There are 50 missions. Out of those like 35 are actual missions, the rest are literally just repeated missions on hard mode.
Out of those 35 actual missions, like 15 or so feel like straight up filler, literally random crap that has nothing or very little to do with the plot.
Of the 20 left, maybe 10 are alright, the rest are a mix. Im not joking when i saw there is maybe 15 hours of a game here spread out over 55 hours. Its bad, also the level design sucks ass, is almost nonexistent its just small houses all around, except for one single mission where you go to a mansion. The story is barely there. The open world is pointless, its just fricking terrible. Like 90% of the cuts scenes are in the trailer. The game is a fricking mess. There is so much stupid sideshit that adds nothing to the game. Its actually baffling how unfinished the game is liie it makes you amazed it was released in the condition.

Its great, though "unfinished" (in terms of how there was some content Kojima wanted to add but couldn't thanks to Konami etc) but if you're not a MGS fan already, you won't understand too much because it comes at a kind of funny part of the timeline and rewrites some other stuff.

The gameplay for stealth action though can be great and it has a lot of replay value as you need to keep going back as you unlock more abilities/equipment or later missions to get a S rank on a mission, get secret objectives etc.

    >Price
It has been on sale before for more. Here though - https://www.cdkeys.com/metal-gear-solid-v-5-definitive-experience-pc-steam-cd-key

You may be able to get it cheaper somewhere at certain times but this is a solid price on a pretty reliable in my experience keyseller. Even in EUR, its cheaper than what you're listing on Steam and probably get more if that price is JUST for Phantom Pain you're listing. . The Definitive Experience has all the DLCs, MGSV TPP, and Ground Zeroes which, if nothing else you should really play before TPP. Ground Zeroes is the "first chapter" of MGSV and hint, if you 100% it and collect all the stuff etc... it will unlock stuff in Phantom Pain too.

So I'd pick up DE if you're interrested but...
    >If you are interested in Metal Gear and want to see more of the story overalll...
    >Buy Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1
For the time being, this will cover some of the games worth playing. Play them more or less in release order. The 80s titles are canon (except "snake' revenge" which is some knock off bullshit) and kinda optional, but overall worth it, but you can just start from the MGS 1 and go from there.

    >If you want to skip ahead an prepare for MGSV specifically...
You'lll want to at least play
    >Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
The version in the master collection is good. Based on HD Remaster

MGSV isn't just the worst MGS game it's not a very good game in general. 90% of story-critical information is delivered in audiologs and the actual gameplay loop is so underdesigned it is laughable. Get it cheaper somewhere like Kinguin. To this day it is the only MGS game I won't replay when I replay all of the others. While the gameplay itself is fun for a bit, the story is lackluster and the game itself is very repetitive. The entire third act was cut so the game just kind of ends a bit abruptly without really concluding anything that had recently happened.

If you won't believe Konami then take it from the guy who co-wrote Death Stranding.

For what it’s worth, Kenji Yano, one of Kojima’s closest confidants (and co-writer of Death Stranding, under the pen name “Hitori Nojima”), believes that the game is complete even without Kingdom of Flies.
“I also think that the exclusion of ‘Kingdom of the Flies’ doesn’t actually influence the main story. If ‘Kingdom of the Flies’ had been in there, it would have been a pretty long segment by itself, and if you look at V’s story as a whole, adding in ‘Kingdom of the Flies’ as well would disrupt its balance.”
          Kenji “Hitori Nojima” Yano, WebNewtype
“Personally, I don’t think the Kingdom of the Flies episode is essential to the game. […] I think The Kingdom of the Flies became an outlet for venting all the unease and confusion that followed [Episode 46’s] revelation. But really, this fits right into what Kojima-san wanted.”
          Kenji Yano, Famitsu (February 2016)

Given Yano’s personal relationship with Kojima, it would be strange if he wouldn’t relay any possible animosity about the game’s incompleteness.

In any case, The Phantom Pain wouldn’t be the first time a Metal Gear game ended a plot-thread related to Liquid hijacking a Metal Gear on an ambiguous note—that was how Sons of Liberty, which was originally intended to end the series chronologically, handled Snake going after Liquid Ocelot and the Metal Gear RAY he hijacked.

That is irrelevant, there is no weight behind his opinion about the game's ending whenever he didn't write it or work on it. He can assume up and down that he thinks the game is actually complete just like you are, but it doesn't matter if he wasn't there to work on it.
Whenever you have an entire fanbase of a game mad about the story being incomplete and a highly publicized scandal over the game being rushed out the door halfway through, it's pretty obvious what happened.

It was the chronological end. If someone picked up from there they could just do whatever they want with the story. That's why they made MGS3 scenario first instead of the sequel of MGS4 which was forced later on.

It was the end that Kojima wanted. MGS2 was never supposed to have a sequel. And yes that's the problem with giving the series to someone else. They don't have to respect that. And the fans didn't respect it either.

No one says that MGS2 is unfinished despite ending on the same exact cliffhanger with Liquid stealing a Metal Gear and having much more cut content than MGSV. Kojima had to make MGS4 because the MGS2 cliffhanger made people send him death threats. This is how stupid MGS fans can be.

MGSV feels like what he wanted Peace Walker to be if it wasn't a handheld game. MGS1 is still the GOAT though. An absolute well crafted masterpiece.

They usually sell it way cheaper than that. You could probably get it for like five dollars from G2A, I wouldn't pay 18 Euro for a 2015 game.
If you haven't played an MGS game before it's going to be a fricking masterpiece, but the story is half-baked and unfinished. People who have played all of the other games are usually the ones who hate MGSV or at least dislike it. I'm one of those people but even I can't deny that it's a masterpiece gameplay-wise.

No they're actually pretty distinct from one another and each location has distinct landmarks or aesthetics to let you tell them apart. I don't think MGSV had bad level design or anything but the locations lacked identity and stylistically looked similar so it's easy for them to blend together in my head like MGS2 does for you.

It's quite possibly the best "operator" game (something an anon astutely called MGSV a few years back) out there right now.
You don't have to understand anything from MGSV besides the next few concepts:
    >Cold war espionage (if you've seen any James Bond movie pre-Daniel Craig you're pretty much up to speed on this one)
    >Threat of thermonuclear weapons
    >The MGSV universe has genemodified super soldiers, so there are some people with supernatural abilities and so on
That's pretty much it. Go play the game, because you'll fricking love it if you actually enjoy good open world games.

    >Is it worth the price?
It's even worth the 100% price. At -40% it's more than a bargain.
    >inb4 is there anything I should know?
Save animals. Don't shoot the girl. Grab some mods (Nexus is perfectly fine for this game, the former is not necessary if you install the good karma mod)
    >inb4 is it really incomplete?
Yes, but it's not really that much of an issue. Sure it will be very noticable but up until that point it's a fricking great game. There are moments where you'll fully doubt the game is unfinished too. Treat it like the game is "finished" right up until the last 30%-ish part of the game.
    >inb4 but I don't know if I'd like the game / I don't have a lot of experience with "good" open world games
Then pirate the game, who cares? If you like anything I've said so far, then I highly recommend trying it out.

Storywise, The Phantom Pain’s “Chapter 1: Revenge” is the equivalent of Chapters 1 through 4 of Peace Walker, where the main plot unfolds and Snake defeats the main villain. Meanwhile, The Phantom Pain’s “Chapter 2: Race” is a kind of “epilogue” chapter, similar to Peace Walker’s “Chapter 5: Outer Heaven,” where players complete side-missions while being drip-fed story progress.

Players were annoyed by the repetitive Zadornov Search missions in Peace Walker, especially as they had to play through Extra Ops just to unlock them and advance the plot. The need to develop Mother Base further to a specific point where the true ending can be unlocked was also seen as tedious. A similar problem exists in The Phantom Pain, with its use of Side Ops and higher difficulty versions of previous missions to progress the story.
    Repetition is Zadornov’s real “revenge.”

However, despite popular belief, none of these harder repeat missions are required to complete the game. The player can progress the story by playing a few Side Ops between story events, just like how Zadornov Search missions can be unlocked by playing a few Extra Ops in Peace Walker

U should play it, wether the story is unfinished or not, youd be dissappointed if you went in expecting a good, well rounded narrative. Play it because you like stealth action games and want to play the best one ever made.

  56. 2 weeks ago

unfinished but its fine, just know that the game basically ends in chapter 1
I remember being extremely excited when chapter 2 started, thinking it was going to be a grand game with 3 or 4 chapters, with each chapter having 20hr of original content like chapter 1
Turns out chapter 2 was just a bunch of filler story that's been slapped together, and almost all of the missions are chapter 1 but in hard mode (that they don't even bother trying to narratively connect it with the story)

It does have a good enough content for its sale price, but thinking it's a finished product is going to leave you with a sour taste in your mouth

Yeah long, but it severely lacked content with barren open world, same looking outposts, shitty bosses, and bunch of lazy copy and paste side quests.
Following up after MGS4 that took you all around the world (even returning to Shadow Moses) or Peace Walker that had hundreds of fun and unique side quests where you could even fight a dragon as a secret boss fight, MGSV is a major disappointment.

Not to mention the marketing made it looks like it was going to be the biggest MGS ever, when in reality it stretched the playtime with bunch of copy and paste content

I was at least thinking that Chapter 2 was going to expand on the series-long antagonist they decided to shove into the game and dedicate a large portion of the story to and not send the narrative to a screeching halt but that's apparently crazy talk and the game is clearly 100% complete.

I would've liked Venom too if he had an actual good story with a character development like him, but Venom's personality is non-existent, and he only exists to pull a moronic plot twist of "BIG BOSS WAS LE YOU ALL ALONG"

Venom has a personality. Just another lie that people parrot. He actually does talk and has plenty of moments that set him apart from the real Big Boss as a much more compassionate leader.

                >A chance at a real life, just not from behind a gun.
                >We don't draw weapons on comrades. Look around you, this is your family.

                >I won't scatter your sorrow to the heartless sea. I will always be with you. Plant your roots in me. I won't see you end as ashes. You're all diamonds.
                >I'm already a demon.
                >Anyone here can use a knife or a gun, what you're gonna learn is how to use your head.
                >Just one thing, Kaz... This isn't about the past...We're fighting for the future.
                >I haven't forgotten what you told me, Boss. We have no tomorrow, but there's still hope for the future. In our struggle to survive the present, we push the future farther away. Will I see it in my lifetime? Probably not. Which means there's no time to waste. Someday the world will no longer need us. No need for the gun, or the hand to pull the trigger. I have to drive out this demon inside me - build a better future. That's what I - what we - will leave as our legacy. Another mission, right Boss?
                >That's right, don't blame yourself. Blame me.

The whole Paz quest where he hallucinates from sheer guilt and talks to himself in the diaries also shows a lot of his character.

sure, as long as they're paced appropriately, but they're not. That's the problem. everything past chapter 1 (and to be honest a lot in chapter 1 as well) feels rushed and poorly paced. its incredibly obvious that kojima wanted this game to be a lot bigger narratively than it ended up being, and you feel that throughout the entire game. So many of those cassette tapes are ESSENTIAL to understanding whats going on, and as you get further into chapter 2 more and more of the story ends up getting dumped into them.

        They're completely optional missions.
The point of MGSV is that it's structured like a TV show. The typical TV drama running in Japan had a set length of four cour, or 50-52 episodes.
The big joke with that setup in relation to the themes and the title is that it got cancelled and the last stretch is reruns and whatever was left that they could tie up, and the final episode (Truth) is a literal clipshow, with the real final episode being a bunch of concept art and test footage.
Though that last part was probably more down to KojiPro not feeling confident with finishing the DLC without Kojima (similar to what happened with KojiPro MGS Rising).

    >Our wishes do not come true. We cling on to our dreams, our phantoms. Mine and yours. But I think this one is coming to an end...After all, you've figured it out now. You can kill Skull Face, murder Huey, slaughter Zero...Burn the whole world down, and it still won't bring me back. Me or any of the dead. And that was our business. War. We bought our daily bread with money paid to us for killing. Maybe us getting killed was just balancing the scales. You know, Mother Base was never the heaven we wanted it to be, but I was still happy to have lived with everyone there. It was a short time. Such a hypocritical peace. But while I was on Mother Base, I was happy. So I hope I'm not the only one who looks back on those days with happiness. There's more to remember than hatred and rage. But of course, this is you, thinking that I should think that. It is no mystery now. I am just a phantom, a fragment of the mind you have lost. The real me died a long time ago. But even so... more so... I can tell you what you are really feeling. The real emotion that is locked away at the bottom of your heart. Let it fly out. Let it guide you. Live. I think it's my job to tell you that. That is why I exist. So this tape is the last one. Once you are done listening to it, I am one phantom limb that will be gone for good. My flesh, my bones, joining the silt on the ocean floor. But do not forget...As long as you remember me, I will always live within you. Not a phantom limb or a phantom anything. You want it because you can't have it. But if it was usable on the battlefield no one would give a shit. It wouldn't make the game better at all.

Why didn't they cut the whole cutscene then? Even if the cut scene was complete, sometimes you have to cut something that's complete for the sake of consistency, it looks like a rushed misdirection by Kojiumbo to me.

          Anonymous

Because you can still send it on dispatch missions and it gives Huey something to do on motherbase.

            Anonymous

They could've easily scaled down the reveal by Kaz casually telling you that Huey made a battlegear and it's unlocked for a shitty mini-game via radio
That's what I meant by consistency, why would they have a huge grand cutscene for something that doesn't matter at all? Especially when the game itself barely has a cutscene compared to previous installments? (unless they are trying to compensate for a lack of cutscenes in the game, and ended up including a random ass cutscene that was on a cutting board floor).

And before some moron posts Chico no that doesn't make the game unfinished. Kojima said on his podcast that he couldn't fit him into the story and chose to cut him, so Chico died in the helicopter crash. And the idea for his character wasn't troony Quiet but a guy obsessed with killing similar to Christopher Walker in Deerhunter.

When you make a story about revenge, the feeling of phantom pain and loss of identity turns out that it's not a very satisfying journey with constant pay-offs. It's actually the opposite. You're left with so much less in the end then when you started. But that's what makes it good.

Neither is MGSV. The epilogue chapter is not half of the game and the repeats are completely optional.
Also just say that you have a problem with the structure of the game next time, not that it's unfinished because uh... reasons. It's a sequel to a PSP game that has a similar structure. Like all the Zadornov bullshit you have to in Peace Walker. If anything TPP was much easier on the grind bullshit.

Gameplaywise Its fun. Its way too easy to abuse the mechanics and AI and trivialize the game. But that kinda why I enjoyed it so much. Like kingdom hearts you just have to accept the bat shit crazy anime bullshit writing. If you've looked at a map of real world Afghanistan, its boring mountainous desert with nothing for miles. The open world aspects of this game took that design to a extreme degree of realism. The open world is probably one the worst in any video game, period. If this game was mission based with open zones instead, it would exponentially better.

      I don't agree.
The main reason why you don't have basses and camp every 2 minutes is because the game gives you numerous way to infiltrate the base from EACH direction and not just MAIN GATE or SEWERS like 95% of the games would give you.

I'm glad I don't have to fight every two minutes and I have the time to plan out the most successful infiltration and it gives me a freedom to at least ride a horse or drive a car without leaving the car all the time to shot the enemy

      >If this game was mission based with open zones instead, it would exponentially better.
They struck an alright balance in my opinion since most of the big story missions would mainly take place in a specific building or compound. By open zones I assume you mean a la MGS3, it's definitely not the same but I did think the TPP zones were decently designed enough for me not to mind it.

You know, I'm not sure why they don't go back and basically made a "definitive edition / director's cut" version of MGSV. At this point, if they overhauled the main games, and added a new DLC that added all of the stuff we know that was cut (chapter 51 etc) , they could make a killing.

They're going back and doing a modern remake of MGS 3 with Delta (which supposedly does not change the voice or script, or anything else that would require Kojima to be back to be done well) yet they can't take the pieces of MGSV stuff that was unfinished at the time and sell it as part of an expansion or something, plus add and enhance anything else that Kojima wanted to do originally?

      Anonymous

I'm pretty sure MGS is abandoned after MGSurvive failed, they're probably testing the waters to see if MGS is worth reviving or not with Delta

        Anonymous

but that's just the thing, Survive was basically a knockoff (it wasn't as shitty once the tech issues were fixed), but since then thy've known that creating anything truly "new" is difficult if not impossible without Kojima to bring the soul of it. So they've been relying on the older content, as Konami has been doing with lots of their properties that have old games that are still desirable, like Castlevania. They don't have Iga, or Kojima or some others, and overall Konami basically fricked off a decade ago and said "gonna do pachislot and mobile bullshit" and now they're coming back realizing that is basically dead.

Literally everything they do is selling updated and polished version of their old titles, like the Castlevania Advance collection. THey know people like many of their games, and just like MGS Master Collection with Vol1 already out and Vol2 probably coming later this year (and including Peace Walker HD, MGS4 off PS3 for the first time, etc) they'd be smart to upgrade and overhaul MGSV too. Delta is the first "new" project they're making but before that, they could much easily add stuff and refine MGSV, stuff Kojima aready made or at least provided guidance and design for yet was cut or not finished at the time. The game is stil getting new players like OP and has lots of players on Steam over the years, so giving them a reason to go back is a big plus for not a lot of work, and also is a way to signal that they want to actually make games again and at least pretend to care, which they seem to be trying to convince others they're done with the monetization heavy pachinko gambling and other shit

Nah, if I were them I'd rather refresh the community interest with MGS3 first rather than remaking/perfecting V this soon, as good as MGSV is, the community would prefer 1-3 rather than V

            Anonymous

Refreshing 3 is a frickload more work, and 3 also has a lot of old fans who will find something wrong with anything they do to adapt it. If they wanted to refresh something, I'd think Metal Gear 1 and 2 would be the way to go, with a modern 3D engine

However its a lot easier to fix/upgrade/complete a director's cut for V , and V is still live , already on a modern-ish engine, and the content is already planned out its pretty much just them refining and implementing it. It makes a lot of people happy, brings back a lot of players to 5, etc. They can still do other stuff, but I don't see any reason to let V sit out without some comparatively easy updates.

              Anonymous

Well coming from a vet perspective, remaking MG1 and 2 is the way to go for us, but I really doubt you're getting any newcomers from these games when every MGS fans you come across always tells you that MGS3 is the best game and probably what most newcomers are focused on, hell this is why MGS3 Big Boss always seems to replace/mistaken as Solid on MGS related articles.

      Anonymous

They could do a MG1 remake too. But Delta is the safest option. They could have easily developed KOTF after TPP came out, it's not like MGSV was some blunder as much as Ganker likes to pretend it was. They just chose not to and I doubt that they care 9 years later.

        Anonymous

        >MG1 (and/or 2) remake
This would be smart. I'm not sure why they're doing Delta honestly, especially if they are not changing the script. Yes, it will look nicer for modern hardware but that;'s about it, right? Compared to something like MG1 which would be a majorly different experience in a MGSV or Delta type engine, they could add a lot of the specifics of cinematics and story stuff etc.

but it would still be smart to expand a MGSV director's cut that for now has unfinished content not included etc. After TPP between the issues since Kojima left and Konami's stupid intent to make easy money on gambling and mobile shit vs games much less artistic ones, its no surprised they didn't go back at the time. However they're generally changing their approach now and its a good thing, hopefully. Even games like Contra Operation Galuga (which is good, if stupidly overpriced) and the partnership with Dead Cells to do a whole Castlevania expansion, show that revitalizing their old properties is worthwhile if they do it right and don't shit it up. Its practicallly all they do and even a lot of big things like Master Collection Vol1 or Castlevania Advance Collection are part of it. Hell, they could include MGSV in Vol2 master collection and make it the director's cut version then or some shit. Existing owners get the game patched/updated and/or a DLC to buy with the DC , everyone gets marketing by inclusion in Vol2 next time Peace Walker HD and MGS4 among possibly other stuff).
