literally unironically 100% yes
monopolies are bad only when they abuse their power as the only supplier, even legally this is the case, a dominant market share is not an issue if it's not being anti-competitive (and no, being the by far best supplier is not being anti-competitive)
They do nothing to impede others from competing aside from offering a superior service while all of their competitors choose to offer the bare minimum.
That isn't their fault. Competition should put in more effort by actually caring about good service and a feature rich platform.
Monopolies are bad, but when the alternative is dogshit competition that sets a bad precedent, I'll take the monopoly.
If GOG became active competition I'd be happy, or if some equivalent showed up. Epic games is worse garbage than shit like uplay and origin and it deserves to pay for it.
There's actual, factual, evidence driven data that Epic actually uses words like "monopoly" to virally advertise and you are singling out the people defending Steam?
If Steam has a monopoly on the PC platform, can you name a gaming platform that doesn't have a store monopoly? And if you can't, why are you singling out Steam specifically?
Yeah, nothing wrong with a natural monopoly. Valve isn't in the position it is because of paying people to not release their games on competing stores or other underhanded practices like that, Steam just is the best service out there. GOG has a perk by providing DRM-free games, but the rest of the "competition" brings absolutely nothing to the table so nobody gives a frick about them. If Steam goes to shit, there's nothing stopping people from releasing their games elsewhere.
Steam only has a monopoly because its competition is literally moronic and make the absolute worst storefronts possible
GoG is based still though and will always grab singleplayer games from them if I'm not pirating it
valve is a company that cares about its bottom line and uses psychological exploitation just like any other
they are private so its kinda worse since they cant use dodge v ford shareholder excuse
>"We have never sought to become a monopoly...our service is simply so good, no one (except Tim, maybe) feels the need to compete with us." >*Native-Inca-flute.mp4 plays* >*Back flips and makes finger guns* >-CEO Gabe Newell. "Apple is fricking shit".
I wonder if the existence of gog-games.to is holding back gogchads
sure, piracy is always more of a concern when releasing on gog, but gog-games feels like it makes it even worse because there's a well known, well trusted provider of any gog game that also uploads them quickly
While I am a gogchad and will support them part of the reason most people pirate even Gog games is because Gog has franky shitty ass server which make it a pain to download large games when a pirate site has more stable serves and download speeds
I’ve bought hundreds of dollars worth of GoG games over the years, but sorry there’s some I won’t pay for especially if it’s a super shitty version that isn’t kept up to date at all. Their whole thing originally was modifying the games a bit with comparability parches so they ran OOB. Instead there’s tons of games that are flat out broken like interstate 76 unless you apply a bunch of fixes after the fact. There’s a whole spreadsheet that is out there that lists all the problems with some releases on GoG. They’re taking customer money for games that are broken out of the box, and that has always pissed me off. They have plenty of time to spam their catalog with porn games but they can’t put one or two employees to work ensuring their Good Old Games are always functional for paying customers.
Well, if customers are happy what's wrong with that? We already have government which has the monopoly on violence and money issues and everyone seems ok with that.
you might be too young to remember but back in the day Windows was the launcher. we didn't need Gaben to appropriate PC gaming like that.
i straight up left PC gaming for 15 years because of this shit.
frick launchers
This but unironically
problem is I don't benefit from DRM.
yes
Now remove those that just sell you a Steam code.
Who makes the steam codes? Oh wait… epic trannies what’s our plan now?!!!
Steamies are already getting steamy.
>Steamies
Troll or shill,?
>itoddler makes a shit thread
every time
Good morning sir!
The funniest thing about this campaign is that it had the opposite of its intended effect: people hate epic more than ever because of it
>"God I wish I was popular enough to be a monopoly" - Tim Sweeney
love steamies getting riled up
literally unironically 100% yes

>tfw Epic Store is filled with crypto assetflip
I'll stick with Steam and GOG.
>being the best at something isn't allowed for some reason

>"What were you saying you little b***h ? speak yo ass up cause i didn't heard that"
>OP makes thread
>suddenly steamies start posting propaganda about EGS and Tim Sweeney out of nowhere
Every single time.
There's actual, factual, evidence driven data that Epic actually uses words like "monopoly" to virally advertise and you are singling out the people defending Steam?
It's probably because nobody called Steam a monopoly before Epic started pushing for that narrative, as seen here
Epic revealed in a court case that they started the "monopoly" thing.
Your company is cancer.
>Make the same thread 100 times every single day
>People can now guess ahead
WHAT THE HECK HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN!!

>things are good when they're beneficial
Wow, what a profound statement, OP!
yes
>monopoly is when your service is better so you have customers
not a monopoly moron
Steam only has a monopoly because its competition is literally moronic and make the absolute worst storefronts possible
GoG is based still though and will always grab singleplayer games from them if I'm not pirating it
And what is the solution to stop the steam monopoly? Sell half to tencent? Force them to accept cryto games?
>"we can't beat steam with our shitty storefront, what should we do?"
>"let's play the muh monopoly card"
Yes. I'd even support cannibalism if it brought any benefit to me.
valve is a company that cares about its bottom line and uses psychological exploitation just like any other
they are private so its kinda worse since they cant use dodge v ford shareholder excuse
>Monopoly is when the consequences of my own actions of being a dick to my customers, government contacts shut this business down
>monopoly
>shitposting for free
>for Timmy
Careful when you throw that word around, Timmy....
Steam isn't a monopoly everyone else is just bad at their jobs while Valve running steam is like the last thing they're good at.
You get rewarded for having the smallest amount of self control.
What's not to like?
Also why not just pirate games you don't feel like paying for?
If this is a monopoly then gaben does nothing to enforce it. Imagine jobbing to a being who's more immobile than a rock lmao

Steam is not a monopoly.
Steam is only a "monopoly" because almost the other competition somehow fumbles the ball every time
>Inb4 steamie

[Thing] is good when [thing] doesn't have the bad properties that make [thing] bad. Yes.
Make something better then. No one has yet.
>monopoly
huh?
Bro? Your Origin™ and battlenet™ launcher?
Maybe ESG should have spent some of that money making the store not suck instead of trying to bribe people into using their suck store
Well, if customers are happy what's wrong with that? We already have government which has the monopoly on violence and money issues and everyone seems ok with that.
Steam is obviously israeli only troonys use it, white chads like me use epic games store
>paying to rent games
>I benefit from that somehow
When does the renting end? This is as good as owning physical except I don't have to deal with any of the downsides of owning physical.
you might be too young to remember but back in the day Windows was the launcher. we didn't need Gaben to appropriate PC gaming like that.

Still crying over steam Timmy?
