Gears 5 is kino if you play it Co-op with a friend, it does some really mindfricky stuff. Not gonna spoil.
But honestly probably just play the first 3 via emulator.

Gears 5 was mostly good through the campaign, but that weird pseudo open-world parts they did were cooler in concept than execution. Gears is at its best when it's linear with some wider / more vertical arenas that allow for better designed encounters. Doubt 6 will reach the heights of the original trilogy, but I can dream.
I can agree with that, the open world chunks were just good opportunities for my friend and I to banter, so I never really thought about it.

I finished the original on hardcore but didn't really walk away thinking I'd replay it regularly in the future; the setting's a bit weird to me, giving 40kish vibes at times or Starship Troopers when walking through the House of Sovereigns, but then you have some more "normal" stuff like Cole being a college ball star or streets almost looking like something you'd see in your own neighborhood.
Played it on PC and didn't play co-op.

I've only played 1 and 2 and I thought they were pretty good. I replayed 1 recently and it holds up.
Wish we could get a trilogy collection so that 2 and 3 weren't stuck in 360 hell.
