I just replayed this game for the first time in years and my only deaths in the entire playthrough were twice to this bridge because Agro decided he wanted to turn 90 degrees to the right as I jumped onto it and wouldn't run across
I died twice during my first ever playthrough, once was the 3rd I misjudged the hammer on the way down and ran right into it, and then I didn't realize the smoke was poisonous in the coliseum and was just standing there like a dope
but then on that bridge I must've died 8 times
I will hand them this though, if you've ever ridden a horse before this is the greatest horse simulator I've played. It feels like you're really riding something and not fully in control
the thing about horses is they have their own will and want to do their own thing while riding. Part of riding is keeping the horse on track and making it do what you want instead of what it wants
They actually purposefully programmed Agro to ignore some of your inputs because a real horse doesn't always listen to you
its exactly the right amount of that, I used to ride a lot and it feels exactly the same way where sometimes you need to coax the horse along a bit
especially when you're meandering through tight areas and the horse will often want to stop and start grazing and you have to be a little more assertive, come on..come oon, get going

There's an enormous amount of cut content for this game that got beyond the concept phase and into various stages of development

Emulated PS2 version if you have a good PC for it. The PS3 version has fricked grip and stagger mechanics because of the FPS.

PS3 is better because of the stable 60fps framerate.
PS2 dips to an average of 20fps and sometimes as low as 10fps.

What little voice acting they have is quite good. Dormin is the character with the most dialogue by far.
Ico only has 1 type of jump distance. SotC has a bunch. That's a big improvement.

I like shadow of the colossus but I just don't find climbing to be very fun or deep. the concept sounds amazing again but in technical terms it's mostly reduced down to managing a grip meter.

I wrote an essay in college on Shadow of the Colossus and its storytelling motifs when it came out (the class was media analysis or some shit I can't remember but it was about film and music and such so I asked if I could write about a videogame and got a pass). I also wrote an essay on Metal Gear Solid 2. This was back in the early 2000's.

its also more fun when you figure out you can do riding tricks on the horse, like standing on the saddle with no hands. this also allows you to jump and grab an eagle, which glides you back to the ground. this does absolutely nothing in the original version, it was just there for the sake of being a cute easter egg, but nowadays it's part of the "interact with all animals" achievement and probably everyone knows it now. achievements are gay fr.

they saturated the hell out of the colors and got rid of the bloom lighting in favor of natural.
the first point can be somewhat fixed with something they added called Photo Mode, which is a set of shaders that make the game look different in a lot of ways, and they have like 2 or 3 parameters you can change. so you can desaturate the game by putting it in black and white mode and changing the intensity so that theres still some color. its not quite the same at all though.
The bloom cannot be gotten back, and to me it's the most important part of what gave the original game its atmosphere. In a nutshell, it went from being a unique looking game full of SOUL to just looking like Skyrim or some other generic fantasy world.

People don't like to acknowledge this about remasters/remakes, but even just changing the colors, brightness, lighting, and overall art style can have a pronounced effect on the game's feel and tone. PS4 SOTC does not have a bad feel to it at all, but I definitely prefer the PS2 version.
