Not OP but it's a little janky, the story gets really fricking weird and I started to just kinda zone out halfway through. The gameplay, while frustrating at times and with some bullshit enemies, is fantastic. You can easily pour hours into it. Of course it isn't, but if seeing it being played doesn't interest you, playing it will hardly change that.
>buy a game without even seeing its gameplay
No i have taste, i know what i like, i know how to take risk and decades of experience in gaming taught me how to see the value of something. I never see anything except some pics and a quick description of something, i bought hundreds of games and i had a bad experience on a 1:40 basis.
If you can't do this, you are a mindless consoomer and your decisional pattern is tied to other people opinion and acts, not your own.
[...] >seeing a bit of gameplay
It's not the issue, the game is 40-60 hours long. It's the mentality. You (relative) watched a video first, you didn't download the demo, you didn't pirated it. You hear of a game and the first thing you do is popping youtube.
It's a shit mentality. If you are interested in something you TRY it. If a book catch your attention you read it, you don't look for reviews or commentary. It's called taking a risk, it's called having the first experience in something by yourself. It's what you should do in every aspect of your life (unless clearly dangerous).
homie please, I read shitty webnovels as a hobby, reviews are 80% in the right when it comes to anything negative if you can parse them. It takes a bit of a discerning eye and experience to judge how fatal the mentioned flaws are, how worthwhile the review is based on grammar/style/other liked novels of the reviewer are and things like that, but you do get forewarned. And you aren't supposed to read the reviews like they are a gospel, you read it for the bombastic things that caught the people's attention, something the tags are for and you check the reviews to see what isn't tagged or what is falsely tagged.
To give an example, something that is marketed as a 'crafting novel', mainly 'alchemy', but you see a review bashing the novel because alchemy doesn't account for even 1% of the novel, used once and that's it. But it's tagged and marketed as an alchemy novel, other recommend it when you ask for alchemy novels, you would have wasted your time if that is what you came for.
The same shit with games, you open a random gameplay video, see a bit of how the game plays, if you are not turned away due to not liking the genre, grind or something else you give it a shot.
I'm not telling you to base everything around it, it's just a way of getting a bit more info to avoid pitfalls.
So when the novel changes genre 300 chapters in, or a game's main gameplay loop is mindless grind(Tales of Immortal), you stay clear of that shit.

I have never encountered a single example of that. If the gameplay is fun it's gonna look fun as well. The only thing that may not translate to video properly is how janky the controls are but usually you can tell by the animations.

Any strategy game is way more fun to play than watch.
That's a given but what I mean is you can tell if a strategy game is gonna be fun for you to play just by watching someone play it. As soon as you understand what the gameplay is like you can understand if it appeals to you. It's like hearing a crossfade of a music album, when you know your own tastes just skimming through a few songs can be enough to download a discography.

>Of course it isn't, but if seeing it being played doesn't interest you, playing it will hardly change that.
Disagree. I thought the game looked mediocre. Downloaded the demo. It actually starts kinda slow, but quickly picks up pace. The combat is really fun. The OST is amazing (Enter Velocity playing during your first fight against a couple slimes is so hype and over the top). The story is surprisingly good actually, even though it only really gets going in chapter 4, with chapter 5 having one of my favorite stories and character moments in any game. By the end it became one of my favorite games of all time. And it's all made by one guy who learned to program just to make a game he'd enjoy playing. Distilled sovl.

NTA but if you dislike that, if you had money to waste and you want to buy a car do you test drive yourself or you look a gopro video of someone driving the car?
Anonymous
>NTA
Stop typing like a homosexual.
You check the reviews of others who drive that model to see if it has parts that regularly break, how much it guzzles, etc.
Then you consider if it's something that is in line with what you want. Assuming the car is in perfect condition, for the sake of argument, THEN you take it for a test drive.
Gopro on someone driving is really not an apt comparison, unless every gopro video you see has the car shaking like crazy at +80km/h. You go and watch a gameplay video to see if it's something you don't like, it's how you avoid unnecessary time waste.

Seems like you have zero experience in gaming if bullshots and dev lies is all it takes for you to take a "risk". But you're not the one taking it, you're telling others to be ignorant about the game here. Nobody would do that in good faith without having anything to gain from it.

No i am talling people to PLAY the fricking game and not WATCH a video over it. A game that is easily found on a torrent, a game that has a FRICKING DEMO (which is an hail mary today) so basically you have the game for free whenever you want.
This stated, why the frick you need to watch a video of a gameplay YOU can do it without any problem?
I can understand watching a video of a game which is unfindable, it has no demo, it has denuvo and its expensive and you are in short of cash, or it requires hours of thinkering or it has proofed problems.
But this game? No, i can't fricking accept somebody who watches a video first, you have all the instruments to develop your own judgement and STILL you rely on the work of others.

The case here is the game doesn't even look like it's worth a pirate. Someone asks if you're trying to trick him into playing shit and you immediately try to deflect with some weird dismissive handwave like "uhh yes it looks like shit but have you tried EATING IT huh?" Other replies also try to sidestep this into boasting about buying the game blind. Very weird considering Ganker always preaches awareness and making informed decisions.
And thank frick you no longer need to do that considering that games are getting massive in size.
If I just had to go off promotion pics and other people telling me how a game 'plays' I would have downloaded a shitload of crap. I still do, but at least the amount of absolute crap is reduced.
For an example of why a quick google of gameplay is worth it, I didn't do it for Tales of Immortal. It's shit. If I just spent 5 minutes actually seeing the game I would have never downloaded it. So yes just watching a bit of gameplay is enough to tell you if you dislike a game.
>the game literally goes full TTGL and one of the last fights is on a planet's orbit
Why fun-loving devs like this are such a rarity?
The entire game is just a non-stop stream of unapologetic over the top hilarity.
It really is. Start as a weakling with a stick in a typical medieval fantasy setting, and then it's only snowballing from there with all the crazy shit.
thank you shiposterkun for bumping the thread further and bringing more attention to this game
yes the game is fricking good, it took me exactly 60 hours to 100% everything and i still wanted more, the story was pure kino and killing shit feels great, youll clear entire areas just for the pure fun of it
I started my first run on Hell and it really adds to the experience. It would eb a completely different game on normal as you would just be smashing through everything.
Hell should be like the minimum difficulty unless you're a filthy casual.
Stop promoting this great game with your coomer shit.
The gameplay is fun and then they drop and entire new mechanic in post game.
Also the scales mechanic to get bonuses is pretty unique.
I know, but you shouldn't use it to promote the game because the game has other stuff going for it, besides the horny.
That way you're just playing into shitposter hands or morons who will instantly dismiss it because "huur duur no talk about gameplay just fan service posting"
>That way you're just playing into shitposter hands or morons who will instantly dismiss it because "huur duur no talk about gameplay just fan service posting"
Neither of these people matter, game sold, we enjoyed it. That's all that matter, I don't care if some homosexual from Ganker doesn't enjoy the same videogames as I do. I understand the fear of getting our own Barry, but I highly doubt it will ever happen.
>Stop promoting this great game with your coomer shit.
The game literally has giant big titty "underage" girl as one of the bosses and a lot of dialog with female characters comes down to discussing their tit sizes. This game is horny as frick and it adds to the fun factor of how dumb it is when you help baker girl during city siege and hero comments that two huge knockers stick out from behind the tree.
Chapter 6 was just bad game design the chapter. That 200 weight snowstorm with 2 fricking yetis right afterwards was stupid. Gotta spend 3 mins in the menu to unequip all your shit and go back to your normal build. Elysium was really annoying too with stupid puzzles, pits, and healing buttholes
>"save" aniluis >time to fight all the gods I guess >go to elysium >as per usual all the enemies are pretty tame except one that is ridiculously overtuned and fricks you in the ass hard >get to boss, no save point or anything before her >she kicks my ass and has a billion hp
not eager to save the time goddess

being a work of love and autism

Same, going through the entire game again kind of killed my motivation despite putting in this time in less than a week.

Anulis (Lilica fused) > Kuro > Shiro (shortstack) > Anulis > Lilica > Shiro (earrings) > Lisa > Plada > Meloo > Ranker
I don't see baker's daughter on that list, anon.

So when the novel changes genre 300 chapters in, or a game's main gameplay loop is mindless grind(Tales of Immortal), you stay clear of that shit.
>but if seeing it being played doesn't interest you, playing it will hardly change that
why the frick are you arguing and writing walls of text in this thread then
>but if seeing it being played doesn't interest you, playing it will hardly change that.
Except it will.
Many games are boring to watch but fun to play when you're the one doing it.
I have never encountered a single example of that. If the gameplay is fun it's gonna look fun as well. The only thing that may not translate to video properly is how janky the controls are but usually you can tell by the animations.
Any strategy game is way more fun to play than watch.
thats weird because the controls worked flawlessly for me
Not talking about this game specifically but in general, this controls well enough for me too.
>A food metaphor, not even a good one.
NTA but if you dislike that, if you had money to waste and you want to buy a car do you test drive yourself or you look a gopro video of someone driving the car?
Not even talking about this game, just arguing in general. And bumping your thread.
Never happened to me. The reverse is sadly common.
Having fun.
Black person do enlighten me where I went moronic.
What kind of magazines were you reading that didn't have articles describing and reviewing the game?
If you buy a game without even seeing its gameplay you're a mindless consoomer.
>buy a game without even seeing its gameplay
No i have taste, i know what i like, i know how to take risk and decades of experience in gaming taught me how to see the value of something. I never see anything except some pics and a quick description of something, i bought hundreds of games and i had a bad experience on a 1:40 basis.
If you can't do this, you are a mindless consoomer and your decisional pattern is tied to other people opinion and acts, not your own.
>seeing a bit of gameplay
It's not the issue, the game is 40-60 hours long. It's the mentality. You (relative) watched a video first, you didn't download the demo, you didn't pirated it. You hear of a game and the first thing you do is popping youtube.
It's a shit mentality. If you are interested in something you TRY it. If a book catch your attention you read it, you don't look for reviews or commentary. It's called taking a risk, it's called having the first experience in something by yourself. It's what you should do in every aspect of your life (unless clearly dangerous).
Seems like you have zero experience in gaming if bullshots and dev lies is all it takes for you to take a "risk". But you're not the one taking it, you're telling others to be ignorant about the game here. Nobody would do that in good faith without having anything to gain from it.
nta but i found out about the game because a youtube comment said it had S.S.H music in it
i never saw anything other than what was on the steam page, i bought it because i love S.S.H and the game turned out amazing
playing shit completely blind makes the experience much more fun, its a gamble sure but you can always refund, im not poor or anything so the risk is worth it
SSH still does music? the last I saw he hadn't made or updated anything in like over a decade, and the website he used to use I think is gone now?
hes made multiple albums since last decade, his last track was some months ago
since last year hes been fighting depression though
?si=7DtBfjrwHZO97zGE
none of his sites or social medias ever works or has any updates, his albums and tracks are scattered all over the place, why is he so fricking tech illiterate?
>you're telling others to be ignorant about the game here
No i am talling people to PLAY the fricking game and not WATCH a video over it.
Much better when you're actually playing yourself
Ganker doesnt play videogames
Combat looks stiff to me.
>the game literally goes full TTGL and one of the last fights is on a planet's orbit
Why fun-loving devs like this are such a rarity?
The entire game is just a non-stop stream of unapologetic over the top hilarity.
It really is. Start as a weakling with a stick in a typical medieval fantasy setting, and then it's only snowballing from there with all the crazy shit.
>Start as a weakling with a stick
The man walked for 8 straight years, he was hardly a weakling from the very start.
Well yeah, lore-wise there's that. It's still the usual slime fighting start and all that gameplay-wise.
Exp that stick is gonna be useful later.
>chapter 8 starts
>that fricking music and atmosphere
You know shit gets real when the game with royalty free music whips out the vocaloids.
thank you shiposterkun for bumping the thread further and bringing more attention to this game
yes the game is fricking good, it took me exactly 60 hours to 100% everything and i still wanted more, the story was pure kino and killing shit feels great, youll clear entire areas just for the pure fun of it
The dev really captured the pure fun of destroying enemies earlier Ys games had. It has a very distinct Napishtim era Ys engine flavour to it.
A lot of the bosses are big titted anime girls
For me, it is Lava Belt.
>by the endgame you can learn to summon the very gods you've defeated
the black dragon alt is the best one.
Replaying this on Impossible and it's just as fun if not more fun as the first time around. I think the balance was really well done.
Do you get oneshotted?
My biggest gripe with post-hard difficulties is that it turns off the time stop during casting manipulations
Game becomes bullshit and it wants you to outbullshit it. I think it is perfectly fine way to balance the game.
Correction, hell difficulty, not impossible. Still can take a reasonable number of hits with proper spec'ing and equipment management.
Also the scales mechanic to get bonuses is pretty unique.
>your coomer shit.
Astlibra is horny as all frick anon kun. And it should be since it's about a bunch of young people.
This game is horny as frick and it adds to the fun factor of how dumb it is when you help baker girl during city siege and hero comments that two huge knockers stick out from behind the tree.
>the crow is revealdes to be just a random demon transformed by anulis
A little underwhelming of a reveal 2bh
>random
nah it's the singular frickhuge demon you've been searching for for the last 8+ years, kind of important.
>zoomer too moronic to pirate and check out the game with 0 risk
How can you be this tech illiterate after growing up with tech?
Chapter 6 was just bad game design the chapter. That 200 weight snowstorm with 2 fricking yetis right afterwards was stupid. Gotta spend 3 mins in the menu to unequip all your shit and go back to your normal build. Elysium was really annoying too with stupid puzzles, pits, and healing buttholes
Kino of the highest order worthy of Kojima.
or you could've just equipped the super heavy stone shield and that's it
all that shit was fine honestly
the worst part is when you have to run through a ton of maps and fight a boss with no magic
>worst part
it was honestly the best part, it made me miss kuro not only as a character but as a game mechanic
>"save" aniluis
>time to fight all the gods I guess
>go to elysium
>as per usual all the enemies are pretty tame except one that is ridiculously overtuned and fricks you in the ass hard
>get to boss, no save point or anything before her
>she kicks my ass and has a billion hp
not eager to save the time goddess
Elysium god is probably the hardest. Would recommend doing last.
The only other one I remember is inside the volcano and outside the demon lord's castle.
There's a total of 6 'god' fights. Check the book of mythology for a few hints on some of them.
it's shit
