20% of the american population are functionally illiterate. Can't imagine how many more still passed their literacy test but still hate "reading the subtitles" because they might still be bad at it.
      Their excuse of
      >I can't pay attention to what's going on
Is just a cope because motherfrickers have piss poor reading speed.

Because people here complain that they can't relate to the characters because they're not speaking English, can't understand the language so they have to constantly be focusing on the subs, can't read the subs fast enough, they want to be able to understand the game when they turn their head away, they don't want to be reading during action, and a bunch of other things.

If you want another one, I read an article a couple weeks back about someone being elitist about not having subtitles on during movies because it "Takes away from the movie because you have to constantly be reading" and was completely flabbergasted because they were acting like you can't instantly absorb what you just read and as if you read at all. It's like people who are older than like 40, maybe 50 can't grasp why anyone would find them useful.

homie you can't just suddenly change the name of a game series that's been planted in the ground and recognize by everyone by that name you chose for nearly 15 years and then expect people to know what the frick it is.

I guarantee you if they suddenly decided to change the name of the games from "Mario" to "Jumpman" most people would have no fricking idea it's the same thing anymore unless they see it.

I assume he was reading them out loud, like most YT homosexuals do. Since it only takes a fraction of the time to read the line in your head, it'd be more distracting for a semi-literate to recite instead.
Dubs are trash and don't belong in the 21st century. If you can't read at an adult level, just have a nice day.

      >Kenzan to Dead Souls all used the same engine.
      >5 to FotNS all used the same engine.
      >6 to LJ all used the same engine.
      >Kamurocho, Sotenbori, and Ijincho all get used repeatedly with minor changes to their structure or available buildings so all they really do is update some signs and maybe a couple bits of the map.
The Kamurocho in 0 is the one from 5, and the Sotenbori in 0 is the same one from 5 even though it makes no sense when it comes to the park since that was from BP2 and 5 while the area where Sunshine is was only introduced in 5 and didn't exist in 2.
      >They reuse a bunch of their minigames and just slightly polish them with new rules, new hands, or remixes.
Quick example being they didn't introduce a majority of the Cee-lo hands until I think either 4 or Dead Souls and you didn't get numbers on the mahjong tiles until I want to say 0.
      >Many of the enemy and boss movesets are reused, with some in LJ still being from 3.
      https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LUIlUZ7P8JgcIVbEWFM-0n9dIgT0qZdQT1PnkvPcUDo/
Case and point, Tamashiro Pistol moveset is still in LJ.
      >They're made on a shoestring budget since they spent nearly their entire life subsisting on 500k sales or less per game, with stuff like K1 and K2 hovering near the 200-300k range until they got released in the west.

They're not AA games, they're not AAA games, they're A games at best and even that's stretching it.

This has to be one of the dumbest “controversies” that I’ve seen on this miserable board in quite a while. That guy is a gay and ecelebs are all cancer, but if you’re not playing Yakuza with the original Japanese voice acting then you’re doing it WRONG. In fact, you shouldn’t be playing any of these games at all and should frick off back to Fortnite or whatever other plebshit you were playing before your favorite eceleb recommended Yakuza to you.

His voice acting is genuinely awful... Just a few seconds in here you can see the scene starting to have those action speedlines with the colored background and he's clearly supposed to start the sentence off by basically yelling it out but he just talks like normal, not matching the intensity of the background then still ends up with not even a proper yell but just some whispery shit as if he's trying not to wake his parents up.

Then around the end of the clip the emotion is supposed to sound like someone who is really pleased or in some type of bliss or whatever from what they're hearing/experiencing but he just narrates as if dead inside. Absolute garbage. How the frick are people unable to tell this sounds like shit?

    what happened to this series?
why does everyone say "like a dragon" now?

      Anonymous

"Like a Dragon" is what the series is called in Japanese. For whatever moronic fricking reason they decided to rebrand it from the well known "Yakuza" name to the one they use in Japan as well.

Personally I feel like they might've done that due to Nagoshi, the original producer and director of the series being fired and the term "Yakuza" for the games in the West was associated with him so they switched it over to "Like a Dragon" so they games start being associated with the new director instead.

Either, moronic decision. It's as if they suddenly decided to switch the name from "Resident Evil" to the Japanese counterpart "Biohazard". People wouldn't know it's supposed to be a new Resident Evil.
