The ONLY way I can kinda defend them is if they didn't want to risk it but otherwise yes it's scummy since homebrew came along and did it albeit with the "I take no responsibility, blah blah" mumbo jumbo.
When they released the VITA TV instead of, oh I dunno, releasing the damn cord that was supposed to let me play VITA games on the TV, that fricking unused port on my VITA 1000? Goddamn hated Sony ever since
I think they kinda cornholed themselves with the Slim since they switched to a plain micro-USB port for charging (thank god for that at least) and got rid of the OLED's mystery-meat port at the top altogether.
Good comment. People will often point to one of these like proprietary memory or Sony leaving it in the dust early on but it's a combination of so many things going wrong and they all play equal parts in the vita's failure. It's a shame too cause it was really advanced for its time.
Many PSP devs decided to just take games from the PS2 and make them worse, the DS devs were smart enough to either try to be original or take games from the SNES/PS1 and make them better, overall the best PSP game is Danganronpa 2, one of the few PSP titles that i'd actually consider great.

There is so much shit i dont even know where to start, frick getting a switch and paying 70$+tip for the new zelda, this is so much more fun, and the modding scene is so cool.
it was the best handheld, and being able to play ps1 games with almost zero issues back in the mid-late 2000s was mind blowing. Not to mention how much of a technical advantage it had over the DS in terms of graphics, as it was essentially a portable ps2.
I remember almost shitting myself back in the day when I got my PSP and saw Medievil Resurrection in motion, and also the Wipeout Pure demo that came with it
The fricking thing felt like a sci-fi device from the future, with that slick home menu UI, the media player capabilities, games with great graphics, an internet browser, etc
Nowadays even a poorgay tier smarphone is orders of magnitude more capable and powerful but it just doesn't feel as impressive because I'm not a kid anymore :/
For me it was when a homebrew app for video streaming came out. It allowed you to stream videos from youtube and also popular porn sites, which was unthinkable back then without a computer.
I remember there were sites specifically made for downloading porn clips scaled to PSP resolution cause if you just downloaded a normal porn video it wouldn't play
I bought a "junk" PSP 3000 from some ebay seller based in moonland for $20 and the only problem was a sticky power button.
I still keep it around because why not but I just play PSP games on my Deck nowadays. The Deck is huge but it doesn't cramp my hands.
I fricking loved this game, the multiplayer was nuts especially when you got into lobbies for hacks
What are some other games like it for PC? Isometric action shooters. I played The Ascent recently and it's basically what I wanted but I want more games like this
I'd honestly get both a PSP and PSVita, yeah the Vita can play PSP games when you jailbreak it, but I think theres something neat about owning both systems also I have a single UMD and would like to put it in a PSP and see if it works
psp was amazing and vita is just psp with an additional stick that makes some awkward psp games even better
sony is fricking moronic for abandoning handhelds
>mfw i actually bought this game with DLC >had to sell my Vita >Sony could not be arsed to port this to PS4 or anything
It a frick if simple Musou and monster hunter rip off with fairy tales! How fricking hard is it?
Frick Sony, frick their gay asses to hell. I'm glad I went MUSTARD RACE after the Vita/PS4
Inafune was in talks with Sony for a sequel before Delta released and it never happened. Sony was shafting the Vita with less first-party titles since about 2014.
>Smartphones killed handheld consoles
They didn't. One gen later and handhelds are still kicking while mobile games are managed to downgrade from casual to manipulative and exploitative
A mobile game is a different experience from a proper made game
the switch is the only current handheld on the market selling enough units to make it even appear on the normalgay radar, and that could likely be attributed to the system's hybrid approach and it being the only nintendo console of this generation.
the dedicated handheld with a separate library from home consoles seems to be dead at this point, and a handheld able to play PS5/XSeX games (with lowered graphical settings) might not be impossible to make, but if the Steam Deck is any indicator it would not be a very portable system.
>the switch is the only current handheld on the market selling enough units to make it even appear on the normalgay radar
It wouldn't have to be if Sony didn't make so many dumb decisions
it went pretty strong in japan. the na market trashed it almost immediately. we liked touchy phones more
there's a shit load of japanese games for the vita i think they were still being released in 2021
Because they wanted to push the PS4 and Western focused games heavily. The Vita was neither of these. They also thought the mobile games industry was going to take over the world of something
1. People hated the proprietary shit for the Vita, especially those garbage memory cards.
2. The Vita was being pushed at the same time as smartphones were still on the rise.
3. People didn't want to carry around that big-ass thing alongside their phone.
4. Very few exclusives.
5. Lots of shit/mediocre ports.
6. Few games took advantage of the system's power.
7. The XrossMediaBar was replaced by that awful M&M thing.
8. Gimmicky back panel like two games used.
9. The games, hardware, accessories and memory cards all cost a ton.
10. Not made by Nintendo, so no Pokemon or Mario.
11. The DS handheld series all have the two screen thing as a way to ensure they're 100% unique and loaded with exclusives, the Vita didn't have a gimmick strong enough to combat that.
#1 is probably the phone thing, handhelds in general took a huge hit. Hell, we haven't even gotten another handheld Nintendo system since the 3DS, and the Switch wasn't enough to really fill that niche.
Even now, anons here like to do the "ugh, why buy X or Y or Z when I can just play them on my phone??? Frick off." thing.
>#1 is probably the phone thing, handhelds in general took a huge hit. Hell, we haven't even gotten another handheld Nintendo system since the 3DS, and the Switch wasn't enough to really fill that niche.
I sorta disagree with the phone blame. I think the real problem was that handhelds sold so well last gen that people didn't really feel the need to move up for a few more years and because they were priced higher they didn't buy multiple devices. By 2014/15 when things picked up the Switch was only a few years away so the whole generation didn't sell amazingly.
The insane sales of the DS / PSP generation was kind of a fluke anyway, when you think back to the sales numbers of the Gameboy and GBA, the 3DS + PS Vita only doing around 90-100mil sales was not that odd. Switch is also pulling in 125mil in 7 years which tracks. >1. People hated the proprietary shit for the Vita, especially those garbage memory cards. >4. Very few exclusives. >9. The games, hardware, accessories and memory cards all cost a ton.
I feel it was a combo of these 3 that did it. They really should have started with a cheap IPS screen model, scrapped the gimmicks and had a regular micro SD card to get the ball rolling. They also should have worked behind the scenes to secure a new GTA game and Monster Hunter game. All it takes is one killer App to get things moving and GTA / Monster Hunter would do it. Finally a scheme to trade in physical UMD's for PSP game download codes in partnership with a store like Gamestop would have helped ease annoyance over the lack of backwards compatibility.
The best way for a console to get lots of high quality 3rd party games is to sell well and build confidence in studio's, you need a strong start to grease the wheels. I think Sony relied on OLED, graphics and gimmicks when they needed to rely on low costs and big hits. If they had kept initial prices down and launched with a new GTA game they probably would be sitting on 40-60mil Vita sales.
>The XrossMediaBar was replaced by that awful M&M thing
What the frick were they thinking? XMB could've easily been retooled to work with touch controls, too and even accommodate ads, as much as that admission makes me violently ill. Sony unnecessarily throwing away XMB with the Vita and PS4 was just another strong sign that Playstation's soul was dead.
No, because the Vita menu is hideously inefficient by only allowing ten icons per screen/folder. The fricking 3DS touchscreen menu allowed for more despite having a significantly smaller screen.
What the frick was the point of that pack when Freedom Unite was an expanded re-release of Freedom 2? I would have understood it if it had Freedom 1 instead
>fell for adrenaline meme
you need popsloader seplugin on psp to be able to change firmware version (hold R during boot to change it), adrenaline cant load seplugins so you stuck with whatever latest adrenaline firmware you setup. and A LOT of ps1 games have compatibility issues. check compatibility guide to see which game requires what pops firmware
for example dr slump only playable on 3.x firmware. quite jump back from typical 6.x huh
seems like megaman legends works on 3.x too according to this

Nah, I got my PSP in like 2008, well after I discovered porn and fapping. But it did introduce me to Gelbooru. For some reason, this Reimu pic was one of my all-time favorites at the time and I had a tab reserved for the page on my browser after discovering it.
https://gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=382467
The PSP had a really impressive library of games, but it's missing acclaimed classics like the Metroid, Advance Wars, Castlevania, Zelda, Ace Attorney, Ghost Trick, TWEWY or Mario Kart games
It had some nice stuff like GTA, God of War, Syphon Filter and Burnout but nothing essential
Also no Pokémon but I'm not really into that series
>Advance Wars
You've got Daisenryakuu and R-Type Tactics >Castlevania
You've Ghosts 'n' Goblins and Rondo of Blood Remake (I think it includes SotN as well) >Ace Attorney, Ghost Trick
You've got Danganronpa >Mario Kart
No answer, but DS has no Wipeout equivalent.
There's no answer for Metroid or Zelda afaik, and I've yet to play TWEWY, so I wouldn't know.
Any DS recommendations? All genres are fine
Speaking of pic related. Fricking wished Deathsmiles or any Cave games would've been released on the psp.
Now I can play it on the Switch, but the Switch is Soulless
Good point, It would fit well on PSP I think, probably would need downgraded graphics to work optimally but I just want more shmups on PSP since it barely has any 🙁
After a long time, the chemicals inside some rechargeable batteries degrade and form gas, which expands and causes the battery to bulge and eventually burst. Its not a Sony thing, you can see it with many laptop batteries and it even happened to my GBA SP.
Looking back UMDs were fricking stupid >here's a tinyass disc but it's too tiny and we're scared you're gonna break it so we're gonna put each one in a plastic case >now put the entire thing in the PSP, including the plastic case
Even the name, might as well call it a "you can put whatever you want on this" disc
Looking back, maybe, but at the time it made sense. UMDs are about 1.8GB each, and 2GB of flash memory in 2005 would have been prohibitively expensive for Sony to sell their games on game cards (unless they wanted every game's graphics to look as basic as the DS did, and pass up UMD movies & TV series), and I've had enough scratched CDs from using my discman that a plastic case for each disc made plenty of sense. >Even the name, might as well call it a "you can put whatever you want on this" disc
Yes, that's what they did. You could play games, watch movies, and and listen audio albums. Which everyone would soon do with their smartphones, so Sony wasn't stupid in thinking people would want a device which could do all that. A big reason it never became "Universal" is because they only worked in the PSP. Sony never licensed it out so you could buy a Creative Zen or Sandisk UMD player, nor released a home theater PSP (like the PS Vita, but with a UMD slot) or a PC drive accesory.
Yeah, cause I got vita. My psp can rest in peace.
Playing Disaster Report 3 right now.

The PSP had Patapon, so it's the best handheld by default. Patapon 2 > 3 > 1, by the way.
>2 > 3 > 1
Lol
Yes, it's funny how the correct opinion is so different from the common man's opinion.
Literally the best handheld ever. Nintentrannies actually believe the 99% flash game tier DS library was better lmao
Let's play a little game
Both PSPgays and DSgays list your best games I need recommendations
We'll see which system is better
DS
>Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword
>Castlevania DoS, PoR, and OoE
>Giana Sisters
>The World Ends With You
PSP
>Patapon 1, 2, and 3
>Dissidia Final Fantasy and 012
>Dead Head Fred
>Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger VS Darkdeath Evilman
Multiplats:
>N+
>Space Invaders Extreme
PSP
Valkyria Chronicles 3
Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles
Trails in the Sky trilogy
Ys: The Oath in Felghana, although it's a port
Nintendo DS
The World Ends With You
All three NDS Castlevania games
Devil Survivor
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
Ace Attorney games
Mega Man ZX Advent
999
Any recommendations?
>DS
Metroid Prime Hunters
Ace Attorney games
TWEWY
Pokemon D/P/P and HH/SS
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
Castelvania, especially DoS but OoE as well
Animal Crossing, if you're into that
Advance Wars: WoR
FFXII Revenant Wings
Ouendan and Elite Beat Agents
Hotel Dusk and Cape West
Prof. Layton
Trauma Center
>PSP
Dissidia FF
MGS: Peace Walker
Half Minute Hero
KH: BBS
Final Fantasy Tactics
Syphon Filter
wipEout Pulse
the DS has an arguably better native library, but with all the stuff you can emulate on the PSP and the better hardware I'd go for that if I had to choose only one
DS
TWEWY
999
Radiant Hystoria
FFTactics Adv 2
PSP
MGS Peace Walker
God Of War Ghost Of Sparta
FF Dissidia
Jeanne D'Arc
I have many more for psp but i wanted to make it 4 and 4
>PSP

Little Big Planet PSP
PSP Revolution
>DS

Super Mario 64 DS
>Deadly Shadows
It's Deadly Silence
>Goldeneye: Rogue Agent
It's impressive port but not great
>Dementium: The Ward
Second game is better
>It's Deadly Silence
Oh, I was mixing the title up in my head with Thief 3 my mistake
>Get Vita in 2023 for 100$
>Get 3ds in 2023 for 100$
>Homebrew both
>Get access to the biggest handheld library on both consoles
There is so much shit i dont even know where to start, frick getting a switch and paying 70$+tip for the new zelda, this is so much more fun, and the modding scene is so cool.
>has the best Mega Man games
I can never tell if megamangays love or hate powered up. I personally really liked it, but it's the only megaman I've played besides ZX Advent.
I have mix feelings on it
it was the best handheld, and being able to play ps1 games with almost zero issues back in the mid-late 2000s was mind blowing. Not to mention how much of a technical advantage it had over the DS in terms of graphics, as it was essentially a portable ps2.
mhfu is all you need homosexual
frick it i'm gonna buy another japanese vita for 80 bucks
I remember almost shitting myself back in the day when I got my PSP and saw Medievil Resurrection in motion, and also the Wipeout Pure demo that came with it
The fricking thing felt like a sci-fi device from the future, with that slick home menu UI, the media player capabilities, games with great graphics, an internet browser, etc
Nowadays even a poorgay tier smarphone is orders of magnitude more capable and powerful but it just doesn't feel as impressive because I'm not a kid anymore :/
You didn't need to be a kid to feel like "The future is here".
The technological progress has almost came to a halt for the past few years
>past few years
more like slightly over a decade now
For me it was when a homebrew app for video streaming came out.
The Deck is huge but it doesn't cramp my hands.
remember the demo disc and the music videos
I remember the sound of the UMD reader spinning up and the clicking noises, so comfy
I fricking loved this game, the multiplayer was nuts especially when you got into lobbies for hacks
What are some other games like it for PC? Isometric action shooters. I played The Ascent recently and it's basically what I wanted but I want more games like this
Alien Shooter 2?
Android Cactus?
I'd honestly get both a PSP and PSVita, yeah the Vita can play PSP games when you jailbreak it, but I think theres something neat about owning both systems also I have a single UMD and would like to put it in a PSP and see if it works
psp was amazing and vita is just psp with an additional stick that makes some awkward psp games even better
sony is fricking moronic for abandoning handhelds
>sony is fricking moronic for abandoning handhelds
Yup
>can't find my vita charger
>want to replay the 3 vita exclusives
>the emulator is currently dogshit
fricking hell man
>mfw i actually bought this game with DLC
>had to sell my Vita
>Sony could not be arsed to port this to PS4 or anything
It a frick if simple Musou and monster hunter rip off with fairy tales! How fricking hard is it?
Frick Sony, frick their gay asses to hell. I'm glad I went MUSTARD RACE after the Vita/PS4
Didn't they announce Soul Sacrifice 2 back in the day, slated to come out in 2015? What happened to that?
Inafune was in talks with Sony for a sequel before Delta released and it never happened. Sony was shafting the Vita with less first-party titles since about 2014.
Smartphones killed handheld consoles
The irony is that smartphones don't even have any good games
I just played Monster Hunter and SNES games on psp.
The PSP gets a lot of flak for being a "PS2 games but with worse graphics" machine and I don't see what's wrong with that.
I wish in an alternate timeline they were able to get San Andreas running on a PSP even if it was downgraded. Would have made billions
I maintain that a game with just the city of Los Santos would have been feasible
Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception
Patapon
Patapon 2
Patapon 3
your point is invalid
Why did Sony pull the switch on Vita?
it went pretty strong in japan. the na market trashed it almost immediately. we liked touchy phones more
there's a shit load of japanese games for the vita i think they were still being released in 2021
it was nintendo who pulled a switch on vita. rest is history
If they had kept initial prices down and launched with a new GTA game they probably would be sitting on 40-60mil Vita sales.
iirc MH was gonna be on the Vita but MH team didn't want higher graffix until World, so they pushed for 3DS
The bubble UI feels good to use in my case. So I think you guys want the XMB back becuase it's less resource heavy.
No, because the Vita menu is hideously inefficient by only allowing ten icons per screen/folder. The fricking 3DS touchscreen menu allowed for more despite having a significantly smaller screen.
Holy based, thanks
>no taiko in music/rhythm
Garbage chart.
I like playing PSP games on my CFW PS3
Is fun
wydm, it's a great emulation machine, it has all gaem
PsP literally had Monster Hunter you zoomers. Without it you wouldn't have world / iceborn.
What the frick was the point of that pack when Freedom Unite was an expanded re-release of Freedom 2? I would have understood it if it had Freedom 1 instead
It has the best valkyria chronicles game, 3.
>Shin Budokai
>Patapon
>Loco Roco
>Peace Walker
>Ridge Racer
>Budokai Tenkaichi
>Gran Turismo
>GTA
>Emulation for anything under a PS1/N64
If anything, until the PSP, there wasn't anything that came close to the amount of games you could play on a portable console.
the PSP had more games than all modern consoles put together.
I dont know anon i have one and i never bought a single game
I have a hacked vita. I'm still waiting on delivery of a memory card. What PSP or vita game under 300megabytes should I pirate?
Brandish
It's downloading
>homebrewed my vita to play PSX games via adrenaline
>went to play Megaman Legends
>visual vomit everywhere
PCSX ReARMed via RetroArch
>fell for adrenaline meme
you need popsloader seplugin on psp to be able to change firmware version (hold R during boot to change it), adrenaline cant load seplugins so you stuck with whatever latest adrenaline firmware you setup. and A LOT of ps1 games have compatibility issues. check compatibility guide to see which game requires what pops firmware
for example dr slump only playable on 3.x firmware. quite jump back from typical 6.x huh
seems like megaman legends works on 3.x too according to this
dr slump is comfy though
or just use PCSX ReARMed which isn't frozen in time...
>ARM
good morning sir!
>MIPS
good morning furry!
>adrenaline
we don't need that crap anymore

just slap this on and then shit from nopaystation will just go right into the livearea
what's screen ghosting
i still use my PSP 1000 and it looks fine to me
>t. ghost
Psp has tons of games
True, the switch has none
i only ever had like 4 games for it plus some PS1 games and i still feel nostalgic for it
ITS LIKE A NUT!!
YOU CAN PLAY. OUTSIDE!!!
That commercial is the real reason the handheld console failed
I'm in the final tower of Ys I and you can't stop me from playing the entire series
Good luck on the final boss. It's bullshit but if you were able to get through the bat boss then you should be able to do it.
Thanks anon. I got through that guy and the guy after with the three blades was easy as frick. Dark Fact is about to shit himself.
> yakuza black panther translation release in a week
My PSP is ready
how many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man?
i wish i didnt sell my vita, now im gonna have to buy a gaming laptop to play vidya while house sitting
Pretty sure a vita is cheaper than a laptop chief
nah, actually not by much, and might as well just buy a used gaming laptop for a hundred or 2 more and be able to emulate everything and such
i just have a lot of vita games in my library i bought and never played
I miss this era tech so much.
>GOYPLAY
>exposes you to pornography in the 3rd grade
anyone else?
late bloomer huh
I discovered e-hentai on the PSP
I created my account on the PSP. Worked out great for me since that old account never gave me problems with sadpanda
>look up hot animu character on google
>turn off safesearch
yes
>>turn off safesearch
hackerman
I had a few Vanilla the Rabbit porn pics on my PSP. I'm pretty sure my siblings saw but didn't say anything.
Just finished Ys 1, there's something about modern remakes that are now old that is really comfy
Also no Pokémon but I'm not really into that series
>sony console does not have nintendo exclusives
cant be
Well it did have Castlevania with Rondo of Blood remake
It's not even a Nintendo game, Rondo originally wasn't even on Nintendo console
That was not my point
>Advance Wars
You've got Daisenryakuu and R-Type Tactics
>Castlevania
You've Ghosts 'n' Goblins and Rondo of Blood Remake (I think it includes SotN as well)
>Ace Attorney, Ghost Trick
You've got Danganronpa
>Mario Kart
No answer, but DS has no Wipeout equivalent.
There's no answer for Metroid or Zelda afaik, and I've yet to play TWEWY, so I wouldn't know.
Any DS recommendations? All genres are fine
>Mario Kart
There's Mod Nation Racers
...Is it any good?
noo
no
just average.
Speaking of pic related. Fricking wished Deathsmiles or any Cave games would've been released on the psp.
Now I can play it on the Switch, but the Switch is Soulless
Good point, It would fit well on PSP I think, probably would need downgraded graphics to work optimally but I just want more shmups on PSP since it barely has any 🙁
>since it barely has any 🙁
Or rather it has quite a few of them but most of it is already available elsewhere and usually it's better to play it there
I'm gonna expooooooooooooooooooooooooooond
I never saw that happen before, why is it like that?
After a long time, the chemicals inside some rechargeable batteries degrade and form gas, which expands and causes the battery to bulge and eventually burst. Its not a Sony thing, you can see it with many laptop batteries and it even happened to my GBA SP.
Tekken 5 was nice
hey that's how i played stens gate too
reading on a computer is just so much more uncomfortable and awkward than using a handheld
Looking back UMDs were fricking stupid
>here's a tinyass disc but it's too tiny and we're scared you're gonna break it so we're gonna put each one in a plastic case
>now put the entire thing in the PSP, including the plastic case
That's an emulator machine
