      >Not titling their latest game as "The New Saints".
Not really, there still are fundamental issues with the writing, even if we were to accept an all new gang they'd have to be better written than these one-note morons and the story would need to be better thought out and developed throughout the game, and even then there's still the problem with the millions of game-breaking bugs.

The biggest missed opportunity is not having the Nuwhali in more scenes and not stab the boss in the back. They should have been the audience insert that memes on the fricking zoomer and been more prevalent in the game. Just have the boss continuously fail upwards with moronic plans while they try to explain the complex dynamics between gangs and the proper way to run a criminal organization while our saints have board game nights and sell shitty t-shirts on the street. Not including missions where you have to find a good location to make a tikotk and have the Nawhali drive you around while continuously berating your life choices is such a miss. I'm talking missions where you go to the farmers market and try to find vegan honey only to find out the farmers relabelled jars of honey that are store bought and you raid their "business." I wanted full zoomer garbage tier bullshit. Imagine not having the first several missions involve riding the bus to get to places to rob what fricking bullshit.

          Anonymous

Sounds like it could get annoying if handled improperly. You'd have to have actual likable zoomer characters who are still huge morons trying to start a gang to pay off their debts instead of just getting a second job like normal people. There's plenty of humor you could mine out of that idea, but the Saints Row reboot writer couldn't write their way out of a paper bag.

I also want to add that the Nuwhali stabbing the Boss in the back is moronic and makes no sense. You break him out and he's baffled by the Saints and constantly rejects them reaching out to him to be his friend, then he suddenly flips a switch and gets jealous and wants to steal the Boss' friends so he betrays the Boss even though they were literally seconds away from becoming friends. It lacks so much logic that I find it hard to believe this game had a writer at all.

This, 3 and 4 are very GTA 3-Trilogy, which was very refreshing considering the massive bore that was GTA IV, I really don't mind the excess nonsense, and I say this as someone who really likes 1 and 2, even Agents of Mayhem isn't terrible for what it is, people just didn't appreciate the good points of these games and were too hung up on 2, at least until we got an example of an actually bad game with the reboot.

          Anonymous

3 and especially 4 have their good points, they're just stuck in the shitty position where they follow up a well-beloved game like Saints Row 2. It's a damn good game, probably one of my favorite open world games ever. Making a sequel to it was always gonna be hard.

It's kind of like when IV followed up San Andreas and ditched a lot of mechanics that people loved from that game. IV had a lot of great stuff in it (and a lot less great stuff), but it was stuck in that same position. For some reason V was universally beloved even though it's probably the most boring GTA game I've ever played outside of the heists.

I legitimately believe its a game that richgays who owns these franchises ( applies to movies and other media ) play with other companies/richgays to see how shitty they can make something and people still gobble up.

Why? You may ask? Because at some point when you have such an ungodly amount of money it becomes meaningless and theres nothing left to do but to get into a pissing match of " Who can make the most with doing the least " or alternately " who can destroy their property the most but still make money " Think of it as some weird richgay version of the game Jenga but instead of blocks its franchises

        Anonymous

Nah because of how the market and trust funds are reacting.
My belief is that rich people had kids and those worthless shit stains graduated in the EASIESTS careers available which are humanities. You cannot flunk humanities, specially since rich gay colleges introduced a policy in which "All Interpretations are Valid" and so everyone gets an "A".

So what do you do with a bunch of rich prostitutes, betas and frat boys that graduated with a degree in humanities and political science? You put them in charge of their parents companies because that's where they were going to be working at regardless, so they applied what they learned at Uni which was the 21st Century equivalent of "Blaming THE MAN".

If you rationalize like this it makes sense.
        >I am a dumbass frat boy in charge of my dad's company.
        >First order, make more profit
        >Second, spend less
        >Third, uh pander to my friends and my stacy gf by adding some pet minority

They tried to make the characters too relatable, and also failed at that since most of Saint's Row audience wasn't that anyway.
Think about Tony Montana and his character, is there anything similar to him and the target audience besides the fact that he is also a human being? I wonder how many cyborg police officers RoboCop attracted to their movie. Make sure you tell all your reporter friends that like to film dead bodies about Nightcrawler, they finally made a movie for them.
The homosexuals from Saints Row: The Reboot talk and look like the sort of people the game is trying to appeal to. And those people either don't care about SR, or they don't care about playing a game about themselves+gangster shit.

3 was an anomaly that they died trying to recreate the formula for. 4 significantly underperformed 3, aos straight up flopped, and the reboot was volition course correcting back to try and get sr3 fans after the wacky shit they amped up chased them away. people bought 4 because they expected more of 3, but 4 wasn't what they wanted and turned people off. aos and the reboot continued down the path of making games nobody wanted, but this time they didn't have the hype of being the follow up to a massively popular title to boost their sales.

SR2022's sales figures will forever remain a mystery. It definitely did better than Agents of Mayhem which was such a massive dud it caused 30 staff members to get laid off and was one of the worst selling AAA games of the last console generation, that didn't really happen with SR2022. At most I expect the game to only just break even though unless Deep Silver really cheaped out with its development.

It sucks that they all have to compete with Rockstar. Why can't we have an indie or AA equivalent that's aimed at the $30-40 market?

I think that's due to a ton of reasons
      >Rising demand/expectations from players after how Rockstar consistently ups the bar, especially with RDR2. That game is not only a technical marvel even 6 years post launch, it has a ton of content and features that few studios can ever hope to compete with
      >Rising development costs in general. Forget even just increasing the manpower to work on games with shiny AAA graphix and maintaining engines, think about how much also goes into outsourcing assets or even parts of the game.
      >Costs for licensed soundtracks probably going up in general thanks to CoD and GTA
      >Games will go down in price anyways when they go on sale and publishers will still profit off said purchases regardless. Why bother if it wont attract everyone?
And that's not even thinking about the nightmare of breaking even. The only hope is that ironically, something like Assassin's Creed Mirage sells enough to prove that not every open world game needs to be a $70/80+ hour epic. Maybe that can change something.

        Anonymous

        >forever remain a mystery. It definitely did better than Agents of Mayhem
It doing better than Agents of Mayhem is not an accomplishment the same way you being able to jump higher than a wheelchair bound man means frick all.
The few dipshits that keep coping that Embracer said it was "meeting sales expectations" or whatever equivalent comment are fricking morons for 1. Trusting what a publisher has to say. 2. if the expectations was frick and all, then by definition it met expectations 3. No fricking company on earth operate hoping to not make a loss.
Whatever return Saints Row made was obviously not worth investing 100 fricking million on it, and despite being allowed another year to keep the lights on and continue work on it, every content additions was made by equal negative bile, which made them look not even worth keeping to be Gearbox's b***h.

Set themselves on a track to lose their identity with 3, and then lost their passion with 4. By the time of the reboot they had no idea what even was the hook of the series or why they were doing it, yet they were dumping absurd amounts of money into it and Agents of Mayhem

I used to play red faction multiplayer with my friend on PS2 and we'd start exploding walls instead of playing death match while digging/making tunnels and see how far we could go with blowing them up with rocket launchers. We made some pretty deep ones that went through all kinds of structures and underground, but i think i remember when we eventually hit the engine limitations. I'm pretty sure you can mod the limitations out on PC. The destruction tech of gemod 1.0 in Red Faction 1 and geomod 2.0 in Red Faction Guerrilla is still incredible stuff that's kind of lacking in the industry today. I think only Mercenaries had anything slightly comparable.

The latest cope going around is that Deep Silver is behind every bad decision the Saints Row reboot made, but that seems moronic to me. Even if they made Volition put in that stupid plot about friends who have to deal with hashtag relatable problems like student debt, they could've done better than what they put out. They could've still made a fun game with good writing. They just didn't.

Even excusing the writing and presentation, the game still launched in an unfinished state while somehow still missing even more features than the previous titles.
