why do they even need a new va for mario? just use the thousands of clips martinet already recorded
there isn't any legal issue since they are reusing it in the TTYD remake
>why do they even need a new va for mario? just use the thousands of clips martinet already recorded >there isn't any legal issue since they are reusing it in the TTYD remake
The VA allegedly didn’t even cast himself according to some anonymous posts that were made here. So it’s probably nepotism if it’s true
>So it’s probably nepotism
It has to be. He's so fricking dogshit at voice acting. I can't believe that left the "Mario ti-AACK' in the guys voice dies trying to record one simple line, Nintendo has to know he's not able to do the job at this point.
They have been reusing Mario clips for years at this point. Smash, Mario Kart, NSMB, etc. They all re-use voice clips from game to game. It's hard to imagine what Martinet was even doing for the past 10-15 years other than recording a handful of new lines for each game to cover the unique stuff for that title.
I thought the same when they anounced Chris Pratt as Mario. I got nothing against the guy but it's not like a fricking Mario movie seends celebrities to sell. Feels like they weren't confident on their own product. Also Charles can do normal voices just fine.
There's absolutely no other reason, personally if I was Martinet I'd be fricking pissed to work for almost 30 years as a character, be comparable to only to Tom Kenny and Mel fricking Blanc in recognizability, and then be told "You'll play Mario's dad and Star-lord is going to half ass it" And what's really sad is Pratt was actually one of the better voices, Jack Black was the only person who notably gave a shit at all since he's a gamer and everybody else was very obviously just in it for the paycheck. Cranky Kong, Donkey Kong and Peach were fricking horrible, what were they thinking
Name a more betrayed Nintendo character than Wario, you can't
For fricks sake the guy that commentated for Ganker3 with a Wario impersonation was better than this chump
The underlying voice and cadence just isn't there so it'll always sound like some guy doing an impersonation. I don't think he can even get as high pitched as Charles Martinet.
At least he's making some attempt at getting the mannerisms right
Money doesn't buy talent or decent imitators that can legally work for you in your conditions in a specified time slot. Sometimes a VA just needs to be fast instead of good to get the job.
We're about to enter the era of SLOP for Nintendo and most tendies don't even see it coming.
If this is the best they could do (hint: it wasn't) you should all take it as a sign that Nintendo no longer gives a frick anymore.
I did a double take listening to this, this is fricking abysmal and even a little shocking. We really do live in the nadir of popular culture, don't we? Every single recognisable, international icon is just... dead. It's all just dead. Nothing good can be made with high quality by large companies ever again, only complete shit. Everything is terrible and it's hard to tell if it's on purpose or if the world is just suffering a competency crisis in entertainment.
Toriyama dying really was the end to everything, he was far too based for this world. It's like looking into a different reality with how unhinged Dragonball gets, Roshi fricking motorboats a married woman's breasts and Krillin sniffs a pussy diamond

The problem is, with the sad success of the Switch and it's minimalistic mentality, Nintendo NOW wants to be the next Disney. This will eventually lead to israelites getting into power at the company and ruin everything. Nintendo NA is already a loss as an example and with the Yen plummeting and hindoodoos being brought into Japan for "birth rate reasons" it is a matter of time.
After all of the memes I'm only now hearing it for the first time. It really is as bad as everyone said. His voice literally cracks while doing the voice. How did this ever get green lit?
Honestly, with all due respect to Charles Martinet, I've never been a fan of the high-pitched BING BING WAHOO voice. It was fine in the early games of video games where that's all Mario had to say, but there's a reason they had to go with something vastly different for the movie. With Charles retiring, this was their opportunity to do something different and a little easier on the ears, and they blew it. Not only did they not change the voice at all, they got a cheap impressionist to try and fail to do the Martinet voice
I expected the transition to be like going from Jim Henson Kermit to Steve Whitmire, but no. It really feels like they kidnapped a random guy off the street and forced him to do Mario impressions.
why would you let a voice crack slip when voicing one of the biggest and most recognizable characters in media? couldn't they do a 2nd take?
or just reuse the old voice clip that already exists (which some regions did instead of using the new voice actor)
Is this how people felt when Mel Blanc stopped voicing the Looney Tunes? It's just kinda weird, Mario comes off like a reanimated puppet. That being said Martinet was starting to sound off as far back as Galaxy so a replacement was inevitable, at least it isn't Chris Pratt.
Why did they insist on keeping a single person to do all 4 bros. voices like Charles did? The new guy does a great Luigi but they should have cast other people as Mario and Wario
Years back when Mario and Sonic Olympic edition was first released, I used to headcanon that part of the reason the Mario characters always had simplistic voice lines is that the sound clips would be used forever. Never would have imagined the voice actor would be replaced.

Got screenshots? Hadn’t heard of those claims yet.

Something about the movie caused bad blood between Martinet and Nintendo, I'm certain of it
I thought the same when they anounced Chris Pratt as Mario. I got nothing against the guy but it's not like a fricking Mario movie seends celebrities to sell. Feels like they weren't confident on their own product. Also Charles can do normal voices just fine.

Yeah I was surprised when I heard that.
>you are now reminded of his wario
I flipped around that video like 20 times and didn't find a single wario voice clip, maybe fricking timestamp your shit next time.
Could've just hovered around a point where Wario's visible and has his lips flapping but fine moron have this:
#NotMyWario
Name a more betrayed Nintendo character than Wario, you can't
For fricks sake the guy that commentated for Ganker3 with a Wario impersonation was better than this chump
Jesus Christ how horrifying
I like his Wario.
He sounds absolutely fine.
Eh, he'll be fine with practice on the voice. Martinet wasn't completely consistent with his own voices for the characters either.
No he wont. he's straining and hurting his voice.
Mario is just not in his range. he's not suitable for the job.
it's like half wario and half a normal voice
The underlying voice and cadence just isn't there so it'll always sound like some guy doing an impersonation. I don't think he can even get as high pitched as Charles Martinet.
At least he's making some attempt at getting the mannerisms right
But this one is just bad
got a clip? I didnt buy this game
I guess they wanted mario to sound more like chris pratt or something i dont know
the voice crack was so bizarre
>richest company in Japan
>this is the best that they could get

oh no
I've heard better Mario's from random Ganker vocaroos that have audible fan noise in the background.
He didn't sound so awful on Mario Wonder but this is just pathetic
fricking ominious
is mario going through fricking puberty in the newest game?
He sounds like a teenager trying to do a mario impression
>sounds like
Dude wasn't even born when Mario 64 was released, you're not far off.
the frick were they thinking? was it nepotism?
what the frick
one take is all you need? did they just ask a random code monkey to do the voice for free?
there's something seriously wrong with modern video game VA
it's either nepotism or all the people who hired them became deaf
and then they have the gal to protest against AI
maybe put in some minimal effort and AI won't threaten your jobs

Nintendo is so lazy nowadays. They can't even give a shit enough to do a second take
Even this is a better Mario impression
Thank you, i hate it...
What was nintendo thinking?

>new voice actor is called kevin afghani
Can't make this shit up
ISLAMI! MARIO!
god fricking awful
I expected the transition to be like going from Jim Henson Kermit to Steve Whitmire, but no. It really feels like they kidnapped a random guy off the street and forced him to do Mario impressions.
They couldn't even do a retake. They'd do it if it was Charles. This Kevin guy isn't going to be voicing Mario that long, I know that for sure.
Voice cracks are normal
Only insecure people get worked up about them
why would you let a voice crack slip when voicing one of the biggest and most recognizable characters in media? couldn't they do a 2nd take?
or just reuse the old voice clip that already exists (which some regions did instead of using the new voice actor)
not if it is your JOB to sound GOOD
humiliation ritual
His name is 'Rio and he dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through the mushroom land
Is this how people felt when Mel Blanc stopped voicing the Looney Tunes? It's just kinda weird, Mario comes off like a reanimated puppet. That being said Martinet was starting to sound off as far back as Galaxy so a replacement was inevitable, at least it isn't Chris Pratt.
why can muslims play italians but i cant play muslims
Legitimately surprised they haven't just trained an AI from Martinet recordings.
Why did they insist on keeping a single person to do all 4 bros. voices like Charles did? The new guy does a great Luigi but they should have cast other people as Mario and Wario
New game should have Zario
