Old MH. >you spawn on a map with the goal of finding and killing a monster.

Old MH
>you spawn on a map with the goal of finding and killing a monster. once you find the monster you will fight him for a minute or so before it flees to another area in the map. to find it easily you can throw a paintball at it which allows you to see where it goes clearly on the map. or you can ignore this mechanic and rely on other hints the game gives. with flying monster you can look at it's shadow to see the direction it's flying away and intuit which area on the map it went to. ground monsters are easier to track most of the time because they usually just move to one of the neighboring areas. learning each monster has a different nesting spot they go to when they're limping. another way is to use a psychoserum or wave emote at the airship, this will allow you to TEMPORARILY see the location of the monster on the map. . the more knowledge you have the easier tracking becomes.
MHW
>you spawn on a map with the goal of finding and killing a monster. on the ground outside the base you'll find glowing tracks left by monsters. interacting with these tracks a few times will activate a tracking feature called scoutflies. these glowing bugs will guide you on a shortest path to the monster. once you get close enough to the monster it will be marked on your map. for the rest of the quest the monster's location will be visible and the flies will remain tracking it even if you cart.
MHR
>you spawn on a map with the goal of just killing a monster. as soon as you spawn in you'll be given the exact location of the target monster. once you get near enough to the monster the icon will be updated to remove the question marks hiding its icon. there isn't even an attempt to make some simplified hunting minigame like with the track interactions in world. you are given precise locations and trajectories of where it is going to move next from start to finish

the 1 whole open map thing is kinda silly when it's just rooms connected by corridors anyway and the monsters leave just as often, but they do so by nitro boosting away from you at a speed that you can't keep up with instead of walking through exits
so all you've really done is replace loading screens with hold forward for 10 seconds (or if they move across the map you fast travel after them)

I didn't play Rise but MHW was perfect regarding tracking the monsters. Paintballs were moronic. Fighting a monster for a while and the paintball wearing off right as they fly away was a pain in the ass and not fun. Being punished and forced to run around the map looking because it landed in the direction it flew off in then immediately fricked off was not fun.

    Frick paintballs.

      >MHW was perfect regarding tracking the monsters
there is no tracking. walking over 2 or 3 tracks and pressing a button, then being given a path straight to the monster isn't tracking.

        Anonymous

Running around the map aimlessly until you find the monster and remembering to throw a paintball every 5-10 minutes or whatever it was is also not tracking. It's pushing extra buttons and using an inventory space to be able to play the game. It's remembering to push a button so the map tells you exactly where the monster is at all times.

Okay so often did that happen to you? How often did it wear off just as the monster was taking off and before you could see what direction it is heading? You are aware you could just look at what way the shadow is going, right?

I played the MH games I had for hundreds of hours each and actually losing track of them happened maybe a handful of times across a thousands of hunts

They gutted it with dos, the series had way more survival simulation elements then.
    >Seasons matter both for monsters and resources (hibernation, honey becomes dried husk in winters)
    >Temperature matters (Desert cold at night, hot during the day so take different drinks)
    >Resources are more valuable with harsher inventory management
    >Time of day matters both for the types of enemies that can be encountered and also zones for instance swamps have more poisonous areas at night if there's less rain
    >Zones have activity that changes them eg earthquakes block off paths in caves, volcanoes have activity
That's just the tip of the iceberg.

Anon its literally self evident if you play the fricking games. If there isn’t supposed to be internal logic why would the devs make separate categories of monsters? Why would they make a distinction between subspecies and variant? Why are monsters/variants bound to biomes? The devs even went out of their way with the ecology video and MH Illustration books to cement this. There very obviously is an internal logic with some concessions moron

Most of those are shit mechanics that slow down player progression, it's why 2FU was popular and the series went with MH Portable's formula rather than staying with 1 and dos' formula (1, dos were made by different devs, while the portable team took over the series with 2FU) The controls did them no favors either.

Old method is better. MHW tracking is bothersome and tedious, eventually picking up just one track does exactly what Rise gives you from the start. If you want to grind out pointless meters for "fun" then I suggest playing MMOs instead. That's not even mentioning the RNG of just having a quest start drop you right on the fricking monster in World, I honestly think you are just starting a thread to complain about a series you haven't played. Of all the things to praise World for and complain about Rise being worse in, tracking is really not one of them.

Sure. 99% of the changes in gen 5 are fine by themselves but it’s a death by thousand paper cuts. Whether you think it’s good or bad design, there absolutely is a difference between the mentality of hunting in games before and after World. They should bring back paintballs. And hot/cold drinks. Also, they should add a piss meter where if you fight too long without pissing you get a debuff. Also add an emotion gauge, which affects your DPS unless you bring emotional support items, or get plenty of cheer emotes from other hunters. Also maybe add in a expert mode where you manually breathe via button pressing combinations the entire time you're hunting and if you mess it up you die.
