Game development is not sustainable, or at least not with console generations any more. Companies are literally only releasing 1 game over the life cycle of a system.
Imagine if you're some Sony slop studio that's planning to release your one game a generation on PS6 and the system is a huge flop that nobody bought.
>Imagine if you're some Sony slop studio that's planning to release your one game a generation on PS6 and the system is a huge flop that nobody bought.
This is exactly what happened to every studio except Guerilla. Which is fricking odd because Horizon just does not seem like the system seller they claim it is.
It actually is, Nintendo demonstrates this.
Sony and Microsoft simply don't have a sustainable business model, by insisting on forcing their consoles to be relatively cutting edge they make them prohibitively expensive to both produce and buy, in fact, they've been selling consoles at a loss for the last 20 years.
Nintendo has a sustainable model, by purposefully making consoles based on outdated tech they guarantee low production costs, but morons keep giving them shit for this.
Remember, Nintendo has experience with a gaming crash, they know what they're doing.
They kinda have to. If they don't make them ruinously powerful, emulation will just eat them alive. Look at the Switch, that had functioning emulators (plural) up in a month and within a year could play games better than the actual device. That's what happens when your hardware is too underpowered.
And judging by the Switch's sales numbers it appears to be completely irrelevant.
It's simple: consumer convenience always wins.
Is it the most convenient way to play the games the customer wants? Then it'll sell like hotcakes.
That is all it takes to succeed in this market.
Even the Playdate has more exclusives than the ps5

>Already in life support >Still only like 3 exclusives
Not even the Wii U was this bad, how the frick are Snoys dumb enough to have bought this piece of shit?
At this point I don't even know what they're going to try to use to sell the next console. I felt "the groundbreaking SSD"-meme was pretty dull in terms of a marketing technique. What's next? "Breathaking DDR6.5" customized by talented Playstation Engineers (Indians) for maximum performance?
They can't brag about 8k because no one has an 8k TV, they can't brag about HDR because that tech is older the PS5 is now, and they can't talk about CPU because the power of the Cell is still vividly remembered.
What are they going to lie about this time to try to thinly justify that graphical improvement essentially stopped with the PS3/4?
Yeah but even those mongs have to be suckered in by -something- so they have to have a gimmick, right?
Some piece of hardware that totally isn't bog-standard?
>industry producing flop after flop >massive layoffs everywhere >companies will continue to quadruple down on MUH GRAFIX instead of evaluating what has brought them to this point t
It's only gonna get worse
Doesn't matter, there is no such thing as long-term investment anymore. As long as they lie enough for the quarter investors can pull out and make a killing.
Devs cared too much about graphics instead of the story and gameplay.
So the cost and production time increased, yet the quality decreased due to worse talent working on the titles.
Graphicsgays ruined the industry.
No, we did not. GraphicsCHADS do not lower ourselves to the point of playing on consoles
every major PS5 game has a PC release anon
And?
>Don't play consoles and say everything should have graphics
>Consoles flop
>Ruins the industry
Yep thanks for confirming

Fricking moron.
Execs hung they're hats on graphics graphics graphics as it was easy to develop and easy to market. Gameplay innovation is lost technology.

that's pretty much it
and yet the games are still cobbled together in the last 7 months of dev time.

You forget that 80iq simpletons who can't turn on a pc still need to gaym, there is a captive market.
