Towns are ALL bland and uninteresting and mostly just exist to house the gym. Ballonlea & Motostoke are just as shallow as the rest so don’t bother bringing them up.
What could be cool setpieces like Glimwood Tangle or that cliffside with the diglet ruins are undercut by lasting 8 seconds and having few unique Pokemon.
The climate inconsistencies are hilarious, going from desert to glowing mushroom forest, or the literal hallway going from bitter cold snow to sunshine.

Nah, Kalos has only good stuff earlygame, but speeds up after 3rd gym even turns your walkthrough a straight line from that point onwards.
Paldea is a bit odd, I dislike the far western part of i, but I find it good everything else. Altho the best place to explore is without doubt the crater at the center (it's literally Made in Abyss vibes the deeper you go).

I could see an argument for flipping Alola to the front. Like, if you were a fan of the story for some reason, fine, makes sense. But Kalos as best NuGen? How?
at least gen 6 still had triple battles, rotation battles, the proper natdex (all mons including their dex entries, gen 7 has the mons but not all dex entries), optional exp share, all moves, optional set mode, optional battle animations, no DLC scams, fun hidden ability hunting methods (raids suck) and no Toby Fox ruining the soundtrack

Lisbon has a wannabe scifi-japanese district called Oriente which is actually a tourist trap full of expensive sushi, Italian pasta, and other shit despite everything being cooked up from cheap ingredients. That place is actually a deathtrap for whoever richgay want to live there in the long term as, due to Oriente being built over a previus toxic waste dumpsite, the tap water gives you (and your children) throat and tongue cancer overtime.
Also, a side note: private properties in Oriente are often fully decorated with bamboo trees as well.

Galar and Alola would've been my favourite regions if they had've been made by developers who weren't incompetent.
Kalos stands out the most. Aesthetically, the landmarks and building design all matches the France setting and everything still feels…colorful? Unlike Paldea where everything is muddy and washed out even if the performance wasn’t bad.
Most areas have some puzzle or gimmicks to define them, like the reflections mirror cave or the lost woods in Snowbelle City. Route design is closer to how the games used to be made.
None of the towns after Gen 6 had as much detail as Lumiose City did the first time, and now it’s getting a spinoff game at a realistic scale with Legends gameplay.
Mega Stones were the best gimmick, and is also coming back after all the others flopped. The Stones replacing hold items were a good way to limit a Pokémon’s usage, and it gave you a reason to explore the map since they were like hidden artifacts.
Honestly, Kalos > Alola >>> Galar > Paldea. Art direction, map design, performance, battle gimmicks… I think they’ve gotten weaker, especially with Z coming soon.

this, Galar did try to have a few more interesting routes but nothing really held my attention, and Alola's routes are honestly piss poor apart from like...idk the meadows? the ruins route on Poni island? I guess?
kalos is the best and it's not even close, people ranking it last are delusional. it's not great, but it's the last one that feels remotely how a Pokemon region should.

Alola was the best. Then Galar, Paldea, and Kalos.
The latter three all fall into the trope of "insert every biome into one small map" which has always bugged me.
I get that its pretty boring having the entire map be the same biome, like Halo Infinite's map, but its just so off-putting seeing a random desert in the middle of the region and a snowy area not long after.
