This is true. I played many many hours of Dwarf Fortress years ago, it's incredibly fun when you don't know what you're doing, but as soon as you're competent with the game it becomes incredibly boring due to how poorly designed a lot of the systems are. It's so incredibly easy to get a sustainable fort going even in the harshest environments, and invasions are never an issue, a squad of dwarves training for a year and kitted out with steel is enough to beat 90% of enemies.

Motion requires a vaguely consistent framerate which DF absolutely does not have.
interpolating between two game states doesn't require consistent framerate. sure it looks better but it's not required.
if you don't know what i refer to you can see for example RimWorld or Prison Architect. that's the kind of interpolation animation (character movement) that would have worked great for Dwarf Fortress.

Fortress mode was ready for the Steam release long before Adventure mode was, so it wasn't included.
He did not. The adventure UI was too fricking complicate to translate in the steam version (especially the wrestling system), and took 15 months to rewrite it from scratch. This without counting the procedural sprites for the portraits of the adventurer and the new musics.

the real reason for not enabling adventure mode is not that the UI change utterly buttfricked the keyboard input system, it's because the way the map system changed during the steam update.
adventure mode has always loaded the game world relatively seamlessly, but fortress mode embark sites were restricted to 16x16 region tile grids, which represented one world map tile. adventure mode towns and sites could be placed almost anywhere, and would have their border spill over world map tile edges. this implies things, like your fortress not being able to have a maximum size due to a portion of your embark site being filled with human town or something.
so the world map tile ceased to exist and now only regional embark tiles exist, changing the world map to basically 16 times in dimensions.
this obviously creates problems for a 20+ year old game project from an self-taught amateur.
tl;dr, time ran out fixing prior mistakes and adventure mode got fricked.

He just kept adding worldgen shit which was only relevant to adventure mode but did not make it function as a videogame.
Adventure mode got fricked over pretty hard even before the entire game was cucked into Steam. There used to be a decent, simple gameplay loop: get quests from randos until you got famous enough to take quests from the local lord, then take those quests until you got famous enough to go to the city, then take those quests until they send you after a Bronze Colossus and die (or retire/try to genocide the world if you somehow kill it). There was a system to send you after harder enemies as your reputation grew, and you could also recruit more dudes, which helped you kill tougher things. There was still a lot of bullshit (goblins and elves not existing, copper bolts oneshotting you after 25 hours, companions drowning in rivers, forgetting to disable bogeymen) but there was the semblance of a game there. You upgraded your equipment over time. The intricate combat logs, potential for silliness. and frickheug chaotic battles were fun. In the last good versions you could even be a Necromancer, Vampire or Werebeast, the former two of which were pretty neat.
Then the rumors update happened and fricked all of that over. The gameplay loop disappeared, replaced with spamming one conversation option that you had to scroll to, in an unnecessarily large list of conversation options, over and over again. The quests were just locations populating on your worldmap and often had no real tangible reward, because you could only "turn them in" by spreading rumors of your success - which was an esoteric system that was location-based and didn't fricking work most of the time. Cities dropped your FPS to 1-5, making going anywhere in them a slog. But, you wanted to go in them anyway, because you could steal all kinds of expensive shit from the Castle and use it to buy Steel arms/armor before you ever fought anything. Recruiting people was jank as frick. It was basically unplayable. Then they just killed it, which was honestly merciful.

Don't know about Clanfolk, but DF, while being the game that inspired RimWorld, is quite different.
1) DF doesn't care about you. The game's world has a life of its own. Things happen and you have to deal with them. But in RimWorld, the game very clearly revolves around you. A manhunter pack will be generated based on your wealth, even though those animals couldn't care less about your fine tiling.
2) DF has a larger scale, causing the dwarves to be disposable. RimWorld is oriented for mostly sub 20 pawn colonies.
3) DF is 3D, RimWorld is 2D.
To be fair, the problem I have with Dwarf Fortress is pretty simple. It might simulate an entire world with thousands of years of history and whatever else. But none of this has any real effect on you as you play the game.
It feels like the people who made it don't understand the entire purpose of a game is to keep the player entertained. Filling it with so much superfluous details is just a waste of time and resources. I do not care if a half dwarf demon princess married a 1/4th walking penis demigoon in 274ad. This has literally no effect on anything. A manhunter pack of animals however does. It presents a challenge I have to overcome.

He doesn't know that certain events like werebeast attacks and megabeasts, sieges, etc are tied to how much Created Wealth your fortress has and the Population of your fort, werebeasts can only attack after the first migrant wave IIRC due to a population minimum required. You can change these variables through modding though.
Adventure mode always seemed way cooler then the regular mode but it also always felt like an after thought.

Yes, but only if you're playing with a mod that removes the pocket system. I don't think I've ever seen such a badly implemented system in a game before.

Yes. Pockets have a capacity as well as a size. If an item is too big to fit in any of your pockets, even if you have capacity for it, you cannot hold the item.
You can also get pockets inside of pockets inside of pockets and when you pick items up it randomly puts them into a pocket. You have no real control over this.
The UI is also absolutely awful for dealing with pockets. You cannot just open a window and move items around easily. You have to navigate through lists of lists of lists to find shit. And god help you if you want to move an item from one pocket to another, it basically requires a PHD in pockets to do.

Inventory management in CDDA is an absolute fricking menace since they added pockets. It wouldn't be so bad if you had a better UI where you could just use your mouse to click shit and everything was visual, but it's not.
Also I forgot to mention. Sometimes pockets are just randomly closed because they are. What this means is items can be put into the pocket, but the contents of the pocket are hidden until you open it.
You can literally pick up a backpack with 8 pockets, each of these having 2-6 pockets in them and each of those having multiple pockets of their own and half of these pockets are just randomly closed so you don't know what they contain and when you pick up an item, if it will fit into a pocket it will randomly be put into one of those 900 pockets you've got.
Have fun trying to find where that shit ended up.
How much different is Bright Nights from DDA?
Bright Nights does not have the pocket system at all. If you pick up a container and equip it, you simply gain more inventory space to put items in.
The only two things that matter in Bright Nights are how much weight your character can hold, and how much inventory space you have. Nothing else.

CDDA tries to be an overly complex reality simulator, which at times is a detriment to the gameplay experience it's self.
Bright Nights focuses on being a game first and foremost. It doesn't have the complexity but is generally just a better experience.
If you want autistic levels of reality, go for CDDA. If you want to be a zombie slaying maniac play Bright Nights.
I honestly wouldn't mind one level of containers, just so you can have like your mechanic and crafting bag vs your exploring bag vs your murder killfrick bag. But they truly implemented it in the most moronic way possible.

But realistically trannies didn't exist in fantasy times. And in reality, the population of people who are trannies is abysmally small. In my country about 0.5% of people identify as a troony, of those only a 3rd will have any kind of surgery and of those about 40% end up regretting it. The figure for people who think they are a troony then change their mind is also pretty high but quality studies on it are almost impossible to find because most people who participate in these studies end up dropping out. But it could be as high as 60%.
This is reality. Not a flat 50% chance of someone being a troony.

Something I think a lot of people didn't realize is that we're actually getting healing potions next update. they'll be procedural. They've said that this will be the 'start' of the magic system.

With the graphical bullshit finally out of the way, I hope we can get regular updates every 2-3 months or so, that would be ideal.
The procedurally-generated schools of magic are still the thing I'm most excited about. I think that'll really allow different worlds to feel unique. Imagine a school of magic where you can use the blood on the ground as fuel to cast your fricking fireballs.
I really want to see how far they go with the complexity and proceduralness by the end of it.

You can use an old save but the new potions and demigods are procedurally generated in worldgen.
Whenever the game loads a chunk it is actually generating every single tile in that chunk on every Z-level from the sky all the way down to hell.
This meant every time you walked into a new chunk in adventure mode you'd have a brief few seconds of generation happening. Other games (like Minecraft) instead generate these z-levels as you discover them (with the exceptions of caves in Minecraft, which is why sometimes you can see them before the chunk loads in).
Because we didn't get a map rewrite this problem is still going to exist and you're still going to have to load every chunk like you're playing Morrowind on the xbox.

welp is there any good alternatives to Adventure mode?
For me UnReal World has been satisfying the need for an adventuring, survival, crafting roguelike for years now, ever since I was first disappointed by the adventure mode in Dwarf Fortress.
It's way less fantasy oriented with the only fantasy element being giving offerings to ancient gods and performing rituals, but I'm not actually sure if those even really do anything.
Recently, I've been playing Unreal World and thinking, "Damn, I wish DF adventure mode was more like that." But it's pretty different; it leans mostly towards the survival aspect, and the setting is a low fantasy version of early mediaeval Finland. No monsters, little magic, only humans. The dialogue system is pretty simple, especially compared to DF, and there is little interaction with human NPCs.
