Eh. You're right but the games I've had to use them for have the trackpad as your only input basically, so you never reposition your hand and it feels less awkward that way.

There's no way anyone can confuse any of Ayaneo's products over the Switch. Mainly because they're way more expensive than any Switch model, even the AYANEO AIR which is them at their cheapest.

Did valve trademark the side by side button/stick layout with touchpads underneath or are chinks just employing planned obsolescence at lightspeed so consumers by the next handheld that is slightly less shitty than the last?

The problem that these Windows OEMs have is that they have an extra $100 or more tacked on by the required software and patent licensing in their contract with Microsoft, so they have a higher base price than can be achieved by Linux companies like Valve.
This is the whole reason why Windows lost the Phone and the low-end laptop market to Android/Linux and GNU/Linux distributions like ChromeOS, and is now losing the handheld market to SteamOS.
Even when Microsoft tries something like offering Windows for free to OEMs making small cheap devices, OEMs are often reluctant to take the offer because they know that after the first one is free and the market is more established Microsoft will want to take all the profit from the devices for themselves.
The SteamDeck won't get killed cause all those chink ripoffs fail to actually put any effort into the system itself.
The Steam Deck works cause SteamOS is optimized for it. Windows 10/11 are terrible for portable devices. This one having trackpads won't make Windows better to navigate. They should come up with their own different OS in order to get the most out of the hardware but that would take money and way more effort. Building 1000 plastic devices with Windows slapped on them and shipping them out is easy - actually having a support team which develops the software costs a lot of money and time and nobody seems to be willing to invest there.

The morons saying we'll "lose compatibility" have no clue what they're talking about either. There are so few games that won't actually just werk with proton 8.

There really isn't any 'secret sauce' in SteamOS, ChimeraOS is already essentially a public release of SteamOS in all but name, and there is also Nobara for handhelds from the guy that does ProtonGE.
The real reason is because these OEMs have contracts with Microsoft that gives them cheaper prices for Windows, which they need on other products they sell, but for handhelds where Windows is definitively a worse choice requires that they pay a Patent license on any systems sold with Linux.
Where the patent license costs more than the Windows license. So they just ship Windows on all their devices.

Say what you will about the Asus Ally, but it made all of these Chinese windows handhelds irrelevant. You can walk into best buy today and buy a device with better support and a lower price than any other windows handheld on the market.
