at least he didn't make his daddy spend 100 billion to get the exact same results
but enough about Tony Khan!
Who?
guy who tried making AEW into a relevant wrestling series
KWAB
No milly?
I can understand making a big investment to try to make things better.
What is inexcusable is breaking something that already works just because your finger prints aren't on it enough to take credit
Spencer is a fricking idiot but he didn't hurt the actual business further. Don Mattrick took a shit-ton of momentum and just shit it down the drain for NO benefit
Great post
It is pretty incredible how much damage that one conference did.
Most of Xbox's support just went straight down the toilet.
Funny part is if they had just waited a couple years nobody would've bat an eye about it.
I think people would still riot in 2024. You don't get how far MS was trying to go. By today's standards, the roots of ideas that would take another decade to get where MS was fast-forwarding to are still in their infancy. We might get to 2030 and Xbone would still be too radical.
Please, nowadays they could announce that the console will kill you if you go offline and half of their audience would clap and call them so brave and the other half wouldn't care because at least they got their Call of Duty. People have never been more willing to bootlick.
Both Series Xboxes already have online check ins at first use
Internet connection at all times is too much. Even Nintendo with his live service doesn't require you to connect everytime you use the app. You can play offline the NES and SNES.
NTA but case in point: my normie friend buying PS5 Spiderman 2 bundle to enjoy Spiderman 2 being really angry that he needs to put in his email or Facebook account when he first booted it up to get everything that the bundle had to offer.
Love how Ubisoft is trying that shit with the new Prince of Persia even on console. Sure fire way to make me not play a game. I bought my Series X partly to play games with shit PC ports including not dealing with stupid broken DRM.
The funny part is, current Xbox is the only console platform to push Digital Only, and it's dead. So much for your ahit take.
lol, whatever you say, snoy.
>Disk option
>Still sell disks
Can't say the same for M$.
Microsoft games still come in physical, what are you talking about?
Anon, I...
Yes?
>Vert sold
What did Sony mean by this?
>Vert is neptunia's xbox rep
>Sold (their 1st parties)
THEY KNEW
non-stop mating presses for Vert btw.
?si=G5yydgC5I3_cQ_eB
There are more PS5 with disc drives out there than the digital only cuck version. The new PS5 Slim has a digital upgrade path. Everyone who bought a digital only PS5 is fricked, everyone with a disc PS5 or PS5 Slim is fine.
Meanwhile the Xbox Series S is fricked forever and Microsoft isn't making discs anymore for Series X, those guys got backstabbed and fricked.
Other publishers can still produce discs for the Series X. Not like Microsoft produces good games anymore.
You know the disc version sells WAY more than the discless version right?
You know the Series X version sells WAY more than the Series S version right?
Yes? What is your point?
Not even an xboxgay but that's false
Series X is still a thing
If Xbox is pushing digital only for having a digital only console, then so is Sony
Leaked court documents indicated that there is a digital only Series X slim coming out this summer that is going to replace the existing Series X.
I think mandatory Kinect and always online would be an issue no matter when
You mean if the conference was the EXACT same? As in with the TV TV TV stuff being the only thing being shown? No, people would still be pissed off. Actually I think it would be worse.
The Kinect was also a piece of shit.
The hilarious thing is that if they had just waited the PS4 would've had just as garbage. But they were desperate to be the first one out there and that gave Sony enough time to correct and undercut them.
The Sony conference was actually about to announce all of those same things, but when they saw the reception to Mattrick's interview, they flipped the decision and just didn't burn your disks.
This is a popular rumor but there's no evidence of this at all.
The PS4 reveal was before the Xbox One, you tard.
Not really, the writing was already on the wall. Xbox was a huge blunder and 360 was only successful for a few years while PlayStation was at its absolute worst, then sales and library both dried up halfway through the gen and PS3 outsold it.
The PS3 only outsold it because they kept counting sales until God knows what year. The 360 beat them while it mattered.
Playstation consoles basically stick around until their second successor is about to launch. Hell, look at PS4 now. It won't be officially retired until we're seriously talking about PS6. That's how it goes with Sony, it's how it went with PS1/2, not just 3.
The PS3 was outselling the 360 in their final active years you idiot as in even before PS4 and Xbox One launched.
It really wasn't the one conference, that was just the culmination of 3 years of events. Don Mattrick got the job because Kinect was so popular. As soon as it blew up in 2010, MS dismantled most of their internal teams, moved tons of resources over to Kinect shit, and instituted the boring Forza/Gears/Halo trilogy that we still have today.
They designed the Xbox One around two headlines basically, "Kinect most successful peripheral in history" and "most used program on Xbox 360 is Netflix."
QRD?
"Here's the new Xbox One. It has a mandatory Kinect, must be online at all times so we can check on you once a day, and you have to pay extra to play used games on it. If you don't like it, go buy an Xbox 360."
In a nutshell.
>It has a mandatory Kinect
The Kinect is still a thing? Lmao. No wonder Xbox is dead.
It was. They walked back on it , released a version with no Kinect, and the whole Kinect brand was officially dead in a year.
You pay more for less. Doesn't matter what the industry or product is, it will get shit on.
The crazy part is.... that was the most important gen to either win or establish yourself as a serious competitor in. They did the complete opposite, they gave up the ghost. Fumbled the bag. Absolutely, irredeemably shit the bed that gen.
Gen 8 was Dogshit, but it was absolutely pivitol because it served as the base for where everyone made their online game library. yes, 360 and ps3 to a cetain extent had this, but the earlier part of that gen didn't have full on retail titles just ports of arcade games and "PSN/arcade" level titles. Gen 8 was the gen where you could go FULLY digital if you wanted to, right from the jump.
Xbox can't save their brand with free games. because free games don't cost money. People will always stay with their playstations because they have already invested in sony's walled garden from gen 8. It wouldn't make sense for them to leave playstation now in Gen 9. They could have had a 50/50 split almost like gen 7, but because of how bad they lost Gen 8, They'll NEVER catch up.
the era of xbots are over
all hail the NU era of consoles
PS vs nintendo
as it always should have been
>vs Nintendo
Lmao Nintendo's not even a contender and hasn't been since WiiU, Sony has won by default
You mean the other way around, considering Sony needs to do something drastic if they want to catch up to Switch.
All consoles suck now, Anon. gaming became mainstream and as a result corporate homosexuals poisoned the well of many companies from console makers to game developer.
>if I close my eyes, it's real
Switch will flop aaaany day now
>Nintendo's not even a contender and hasn't been since WiiU, Sony has won by default
If the Switch 2 has
>8 GB of RAM
>+2 GHz on CPU
>2 TFLOPS of rasterization power on
>DLSS enough to upscale to 4K from 1080p
2TFLOPs with the tech they'll use is still well beyond what Nintendo would allow in bulk, fan noise, and battery consumption on the device, not happening.
Sony is competing with PC, Nintendie won by carving their own niche out
>PS vs Nintendo
They don't attempt to occupy the same market space, tho. Most PSgays already own a Switch too and play completely different games on either
Playstation still takes stabs at copying Nintendo, thoughever. The most recent examples being the copying of haptic feedback ("HD Rumble" in Nintendo's joycons, unnamed in Dualsense) and going a bit above it with "adaptive triggers" that most people just find annoying, no matter how immersive it is and, debateably, trying to copy the Wii U plus many other existing streaming handhelds with the Portal.
>PS vs NIntendo
stop with this fricking meme Nintendo and Sony aren't competing most sony fans own a switch and vice versa
nintendo is so far above any other console now that it isnt even considered competition anymore
I got into Xbox with the 360, but didn't see this. Qrd?
everything kinda went to shit after 1 E3 presentation.
Xbox liked to go first in the day, they were planning to have the xbox be an all in one media device (which it did become). Where you could play games, watch tv, and use streaming services.
Og xbox and Xbox 360 experimented and succeeded with online multiplayer so they tried to case motion control which was successful for the Wii. They tried to ship every xbox with a kinect just as they used to ship every xbox with an XBL headset, because it would let developers know that every Xbox had the hardware and it was safe to develop for.
The problem was it increased the price of the console (motion control that is now common with VR headsets and Voice control that is in basically every device today).
They were also planning on creating an always online service where you could share games with friends. kinda like if you owned a game on steam and could let your friend play it with you even if they dont own it. but it would require always online. (Always online is now standard, and xbox gamepass exists now)
later in the day Sony made a comedic response to the xbox presentation which targeted the poor black people that is the western sony fanbase, who only owned a sony platform for free online. sony made a big fuss about sharing and reselling physical games (how is gamestop doing?). Made a fuss about always online (which im pretty sure they are too now). But came in a bit cheaper because they didnt ship with any new tech. Though their console would eventually also follow xbox and become a netflix machine, they would also charge for online, become a digital store front, fumble backwards compatibility, struggle to create a stable online service.
the media made a big deal about military working in submarines not being able to play video games 2 miles below the ocean because of always online, and Mattrick told them to buy an xbox 360 instead.
Well shit, I missed all of that.
it's like, 90% wrong and biased btw.
They also may have leaned too hard into the "WATCH AMERICAN SPORTSBALLS IN YOUR DEVICE" when the US wasn't 100% of the market share, half of the planned XBone features were non-functional outside of the US
in America it was pretty cool
back then i didnt have a gaming Pc, so i used the same TV to play games that i would watch Tv. Xbox One would let you auto sign into your cable provider and watch TV or twitch/youtube on the same screen while playing games.
Even saying "xbox record that" was more useful then having to take my hands off the controls to hit some Hotkey on a keyboard or fiddle with random menus to record the last few moments.
> Always online is now standard
No it isn’t? I can play almost all my games without an internet connection. They wanted you online for single player games or they wouldn’t work.
Most new releases have denuvo. If you don't get online for long enough the verification lot becomes outdated and the game gets locked. If you are pirating, or using GOG, or not playing new AAA games, you are not the norm. The norm is AAA on Steam or other launcher with denuvo.
how else are you going to download the 193GB day one update after putting in your game license disc?
so basically sony clowned on xbox for doing shit they do too?
So much seethe in this post
.....Don is that you?
You mention streaming services but the Xbone's pitch wasn't that at all, it was fricking all-in on cable TV in 2013 when it was pretty obvious which way the wind was blowing with people getting tired of paying a hundred dollars a month for channels they don't watch to get the one they wanted.
That's why they had all the split-screen view bullshit that also infected Windows 8 with the Metro apps and an HDMI in port - so you could have your Xbone middleman your cable box and your TV because the pitch was that Xbox is the new watercooler and the central hub for your entertainment. Instead of turning on your TV, cable box and receiver with a remote like some fricking rube, you'd just yell at Kinect to turn the TV on.
Evidently Microsoft misjudged how much people disliked having to manually operate their devices with physical buttons.
Yeah Don Mattrick was going all in cable TV in the year Netflix was taking off. It's hilarious how incompetent the man is.
>just had an autosaged thread of people trying to offload all the blame on Spencer when Mattrick started this shit
Spencer merely kept the ball in motion.
>Still trying to blame Matrick for Spencer's incompetence
you're pathetic cope won't change facts. anyone can come back from an absolute disaster of a conference.
Mattrick's faults don't begin and end with a conference, and to call it an absolute disaster is somehow selling it short. No one's blaming him for Spencer's incompetence though, that's a different issue altogether.
it's been 11 years, you can only blame him for so much. xbox had two generations to get their shit together and they couldn't. wii u flopped twice as hard as the xbone and nintendo recovered from that.
And that all is Spencer's fault. We can't blame Mattrick for the last 10 years but he is at fault for spending the 4 or 5 years before tearing the brand down internally and handing Spencer a broken thing to fix. Spencer didn't and that's his and Microsoft's cross to bear, but it's Mattrick that put the brand where it still is.
>and handing Spencer a broken thing to fix.
The fix was easy: MAKE SOME FRICKING GAMES.
Their library is shit. It's objectively worse than Playstation's, which is also shit. This fricking dipshit thinks he can buy 5 publishers at the 11th hour because he had no actual launch titles for xbox ready besides a shitty halo GAAS slop, force them to rush games out the door, and suddenly he's nintendo for adults. Fricking dumbass. Xbox's state is Phil's fault. Not Don for being the star of one of a many cringe console presentations.
I'm glad someone is saying it. If Phil Spencer couldn't fix the problem in 10 years, then he can't fix the problem.
2013 was a little more than just "cringe". It was a glimpse into the dystopian future that Microsoft as a company wanted for the games industry. They showed that they wanted to spy into your home, that they wanted to force peripherals on you, that they wanted you to always be connected to them, that they wanted to kill second hand gaming, and perhaps worst of all that they didn't give a single shit about video games anyways. 2013 isn't shit on because of haha funny cringe conference, that is a child's understanding of it. Microsoft said the quiet part out loud, we got to see the man behind the curtain with their intentions and to this day they aren't worth trusting. That's a little more damning than just a bad conference, Xbox's (remaining) goodwill was thoroughly poisoned that year.
>Having good games won't save Xbox
Therein lies the problem. This is what Phil genuinely thinks. It's not a "hurrr they're making console gaming dystopian" these are the same people who were okay to pay to play their games online. They'll gladly get fricked in the ass by microsoft as long as they got halo. Their games are shit and the CEO has a defeatist mentality and refuses to address this, so people dropped xbox. That's the truth.
Post-2013, sure. You throwing all of that under the bus shows that you don't get how much customer goodwill they lost with their vision that year. It absolutely was a concern that Microsoft wanted to install an Orwellian nightmare into your house, it got to a point where games wouldn't save their vision because it was that horrific, not that there were games slated that year anyways.
>customer goodwill
Xbox live should have clued their install base in to how much "customer goodwill" microsoft had.
360 managed to be an appealing prospect for many...for about 4 years. Once the Kinect and dashboard changes came about, people started turning. By 2013, Xbox was already on shaky ground. Cue the Xbone reveal.
>Microsoft wanted to install an Orwellian nightmare into your house,
Alexa take note of this post.
I like how "we can't rely on games to sell consoles" was constantly being analyzed and reworked to be like 'NO THAT'S NOT WHAT HE REALLY MEANT' for months. And it turns out, no man, he really believed that
Exactly. There was basically no talk about games that year, just service models. Which is more for a board room with investors to get excited about extracting money. This was the year we got the "CALL OF DUTY CALL OF DUTY- SPORTS- CALL OF DUTY- WATERCOOLER" meme.
It's funny how after a decade of "Games are coming", it's just like "we give up"
Right on brother. This is all Phil’s fault but xgays keep slurping his lies because "he’s a gamer just like us”
If other embarrassing conferences were like shooting yourself in the foot, the Xbox One reveal was like slowly sawing yourself in half with a rusty sawblade. I cannot overstate how much damage that one conference did; the PS4 literally won the 8th generation simply by advertising itself as not being the Xbox One, and it launched with nothing but ports and frickin' Knack. Other conferences, like shooting yourself in the foot, could be recovered from; Xbox after that 2013 conference has been nothing but half a person crawling on the ground, their organs trailing behind them, inevitably doomed to die.
Not to mention PS4 was 100 bucks cheaper than the Xbone and was actually the more powerful machine...
PS4/Xbox One was a worse fight to lose because it's the time period where digital libraries became mainstream on console. Now everyone who switched to PS4 from 360 has a library they'd be giving up if they switched back.
There's a difference between a disaster conference and announcing that you plan on raping your customer base for the next decade while your main competitor has yet to make their own plans public. There's just no coming back from something like that.
Nobody's defending Spencer, we're just also saying Don was the start of the rock falling down the hill
>Nobody's defending Spencer
Just realised Spencer is a Todd Howard imitator. They say imitation is a form of flattery, so he's his number one fan.
friendly reminder that it's now available in 1080p
Mattrick burned down the entire Xbox division, killed every major franchise they had and made them pariahs amongst 3rd party devs.
Spencer is incompetent but it's not clear if there ever was a good strategy to get back to 1:1 hardware parity with Sony
Doesn't help that Spencer had to spend $80 billion to realize this fact
That guy may be one of the best ninja flute players in the world, but they he didn't need to come out on stage dressed up as a 17th century farmer.
What a massive frick-up that was.
If you were high on Sony Copium after E3 2006, you could at least try to justify the $600 price tag in the forums online
>60GB hard drive (premium Xbox 360 had 20GB)
>Blu Ray player
>muh cell processor (nobody at the time knew if this would actually matter but it still provided hopium)
There was just absolutely no talking points for Xbox fans back in 2013.
>pay $500 for Xbox one vs $400 for PS4
>the multiplat games run worse due to wore hardware (i.e. Battlefield 4, games running at 1080p vs 900p)
>Always online
>Forced Kinect peripheral whether you want it not
>Halo already on the decline
Call it childish, but you need to have pride in your purchasing decisions. That's what the heart of the console war is. Trying to pretend you're too stoic to care about it just comes across as copium.
With the news that all Xbox console exclusives are being ported to Playstation, it's obvious that Microsoft is bowing out of the console war / race entirely. The Xbox Series consoles will be the very last Xbox consoles. Microsoft will now turn towards games publishing and distribution. Sony and Nintendo are now the only companies that will make consoles. Playstation and PC will be your only options for big expensive AAA games.
this would be nice. i have a bunch of friends that are mentally stuck on xbox consoles that needed a push to play on PC. they dont know what they are missing and they have the money to not give a frick about brand loyalty.
Your friends will move to ps, not pc. If they wanted pc they could have done that at anytime, but they haven’t.
>IT WAS DON! IT WAS ALL DON! PHIL HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!
jej
xjeets still seething
Has there ever been a more damaging press conference in vidya history?
If you want to play Hi Fi Rush and Fable we have a console for that, it's the PS5
>xbox is abandoning the retail market
>the only way to preserve upcoming microsoft games will be as playstation games
I had this exact discussion with my wife last night. Crazy to think the only way to preserve Xbox games is directly through it's competition. It's poetic irony.
>EHLP

>REEEEEEEE UNACCEPTABLE
How did this of all things kill the Xbox brand? They were the kings of eating shit. How did this of all things make them defect?
Because of Kinect. It was an attempt to cater to casuals a la Wii and the core fanbase not only despised it, but for a few years felt outright neglected by MS's Kinect-centric output. When Xbone was revealed to have mandatory Kinect integration, that was the kiss of death for their hardcore contingent, they didn't want another generation of fricking Kinect Star Wars. Never mind that the thing allowed MS to spy on you and check your internet connection, that was just icing on the cake.
Because the conference wasn't just that moron, the TV TV TV bullshit, the focus on Kinect long after consumers got sick of it, the draconian DRM, and the always online thing all in combination caused people to turn on Xbox
You forgot mandatory Kinect too
Did you forget about the entire TV TV TV SPORTS SPORTS thing too?
>How did this of all things kill the Xbox brand?
It was that and physical copies being tied to your account, meaning no lending or selling it used.
Remember Sony made a devastating ad mocking that and not about the always online stuff.
>How did this of all things kill the Xbox brand? They were the kings of eating shit. How did this of all things make them defect?
social media, simple as, social media killed xbox brand in 2013 althoug they won 7th gen and xbox one and xbox series x are better than sonyps4 and sonyps5
>if you can't get an internet connection whatsoever then use the 360
Honestly if he held the line and stayed the course Xbox would’ve been in a better place. Being a proto smart TV and pivoting to that direction would’ve done PS2 level numbers if marketed right
You sell games consoles on games, especially exclusives that act as the hook to get the system in the first place. Those features are fine but smartphones, smart tv, Apple tv, Roku, Firestick would all still be there.
Reminder that the reason you couldn't trade physical games was because you'd be able to sell or trade the digital license instead. Good thing digital never took off or else causing them to go back on this would have aged really poorly!
Trading digital is inherently flawed because you're almost certainly locked into a single ecosystem. You wouldn't have the myriad of resale choices that physical has, it would be a "take it or leave it" prospect, and you'd be at the mercy of whoever owns that digital storefront.
I love how his simpering dishevelled appearance and half-hearted smile, even in this one photo, is perfectly matched to the conference. Like all the shitness of the proposal was embodied in the man who had to present it.
At least Mattick was honest about how shitty his product was
Nothing more embarrassing than watching tendies pretend they're relevant
Will you still be saying this once the Switch outsells the PS2?
Lol nincels have been so scared that nintys gonna give the sequel a moronic name and make them lose their moronic fan base that can't differentiate between next gen and a mid gen upgrade
Cope more snoytroony
Mattrick caused some irreversible damage but Phil didn't really do much to try to fix it. Sony arguably started in an equally shit position with the PS3 and they managed to crawl back to victory, Nintendo had a disaster with the WiiU and they figured it out for the next one.
You'd think Microsoft would bet on a big rebrand and some plan for who and how to sell their system to, but all they really had going was a console with a very similar name, aesthetic, and no real games or anything besides Gamepass. It just felt like they were doing the same shit tbh
Matrick's just a boogeyman, upper management wanted that Wii marketshare at any cost and the Kinect was a modest success. It's just that they got greedy with DRM.
It wasn't an "equally shit" position and I don't know why people keep saying this. PS3 was overpriced and WiiU had no public presence. Both were good fun to laugh at, but there wasn't anything actually funny about what Microsoft thought the future of video games should look like with first draft Xbone. That shit crossed moral boundaries that PS3 and WiiU never even hinted at, it was a very different problem with far more devastating reputational damage. It was not the same at all, Sony and Nintendo made mistakes that could be recovered from. Microsoft's is going to take a much longer time to forgive.
>That shit crossed moral boundaries
Which have been crossed multiple times again and again by multiple companies in the last few years. What MS did wrong was try to push all this shit at once, when they should have been drip feeding that in a span of multiple years. They unironically were looking too far into the future. Sure Sony is still scared shitless by "always online" but with most games requiring day one patches or giga Black person downloads, it's pretty much the same thing. Everything else Xbox tried to push with the initial One has already happened.
>can still hand my friend a PS5 game and have it run on their machine
Thanks.
Yeah people who say that are coping hard as frick. I remember what it was like back in 2013 vividly and it wasn't like PS3 at all, people were actively pissed at Microsoft whereas the PS3 just seemed more like incompetence.
The PS3 wasn't just overpriced, it was overpriced due to the fact that it was loaded up with proprietary tech that had no benefit for gaming applications, but Sony needed the console to buoy their other divisions.
The cell architecture actively hindered game development, Sony burned a lot of developers, lost exclusively and Japanese studios that didn't previously consider Xbox starting making multiplat versions
The Xbox OG and the 360 innovated in a bunch of ways that all other companies eventually followed. Such as using off the shelf PC components and the first online service that didn't suck shit
>Such as using off the shelf PC components
the 360 actually had unified shaders before any graphics card
>it was loaded up with proprietary tech that had no real benefit for gaming application
So it was a Playstation console. The PS1 is a CD player and the PS2 is a DVD player, PS3 being a Blu-ray player is par for the course. You're right on Cell though, huge misfire for Sony and PS3 didn't have the sheer market share of PS2 to convince devs to just put up with it.
Imagine if they just stuck to MIPS for PS3
>The PS1 is a CD player and the PS2 is a DVD player, PS3 being a Blu-ray player is par for the course
Unlike the PS2 with DVDs and PS3 with Bluray, fricking nobody used their PS1 to play music.
Funny that you say that.
https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/sony-playstation-1-audiophile-cd-player
i used dreamcast to play cds
More like, the 360 was a one hit wonder that was mainly caused by Sony frick-ups, not because the 360/MS did anything particularly well.
Monopolies suck and it's good Sony has some enemies, but MS will never be able to achieve what alright sales they had with the 360. There is simply no reason to own their platforms.
Either way, it's never been better to be gaming on PC with nearly everything non-Nintendo coming to it natively... and tons of Switch games you can just emulate decently enough.
To be fair they did court the nips.
>Ridge Racer, Tales, Ace Combat, Lost Odyssey, Katamari, Dead Rising, Espagaluda II, Tokyo Xtreme Racer, Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom and so much more shit, they were doing well with the library part of things and that cratered off with the XB1.
Mostly generic trash and PS got the far superior Katamari game.
Ridge Racer was already uninteresting by that time.
>the 360 was a one hit wonder
Were you asleep when it launched with a catastrophic hardware overheating fault that they knew about?
And it took them 3 years and about 5 hardware revisions to fix?
We're you asleep when it literally was outselling playstation despite Sony having a 2 generation lead?
Here are the highlights-
couldn't have happened to a more deserving company
I remember reading about that, a real “wtf I’m buying a playstation then” moment. I’d had xbox before that. Then, with digital taking over and me buying in their online store, the chance of going back to xbox became less than zero.
Story of many, many people right here. This is why Mattrick gave up - Xbone was the wrong time to make such grave mistakes.
So much America in a single image.
>Meanwhile Playstation still has only one game
The absolute state of consoles
>One game
I don't know why.
Meanwhile, everyone else has no games
GOTY launches exclusively on PS5 in 3 weeks btw
>GOTY launches exclusively on PS5 in 3 weeks btw
Dragon's Dogma 2 isn't releasing until late March, anon
Not an exclusive.
Not on steam day 1 fatty
Not an exclusive.
It's exclusive as GTA San Andreas was to the PS2. Nobody cares if your neon light RGB gay box eventually has it.
What a nonsensical post. Which version of the game do you think people were playing for 20 years before the botched demasters? lmao
>"This entertainment device needs to constantly be connected to the internet and you also need this motion tracking camera attached to it at all time, even when you aren't using it."
>Right off the back of the Snowden leaks
The timing on that was fricking immaculate. I think it literally was largely that too since it's not like Alexas and whatever the frick else are exactly uncommon devices with no marketshare because who'd want to pay money just to get spied on. Microsoft being named as one of the big collaborators for the NSA probably didn't help much either.
His brand being the largest tech company, surpassing Apple?
Sounds pretty upwards spiral to me anon.
Microsoft as a company is doing fine. Xbox as a branch is looking rather vestigal though.
Who the frick is spending money on a ps5 or an xbox in 2024? What do you use it for after you get tired of the main game? How do you avoid feeling cheated?
>who the frick is spending money on a ps5 or an xbox in 2024?
normalgays who play FIFA or COD almost religiously
I used to buy playstation but I see no point after 4. At least the switch is portable? Some people are into that. But what the frick are we spending money on with the other two?
All games are on PS5 and you get to wake up every morning knowing you're not a cuckold who pays money for a digital download
I am not buying the Jim Ryan box, even if you put "Nier Automata at home" on it.
I'll buy a used PS5 for Stellar Blade
>Mogs Xbox, Nintendo and Sony
The real question is how the frick did the Xbox brand stay alive for two generations even though it's a liability for Microsoft's finances?
I have two theories: Minecraft acquisition and the fact that the Xbone S was the cheapest console on the market for a time period.
>it's a liability for Microsoft's finances
Microsoft has enough money/revenue to not really care that much.
It helps that Microsoft pulls in an absolutely immense amount of money from its main businesses; if it wasn't for shareholder laws a suitably insane CEO could probably literally make Xbox consoles and games completely free and it wouldn't make much of a dent in their bottom line.
Because it actually makes money? Yeah there's loss leaders here and there but not on a scale that it's actually a fricking money pit like Ganker's "dude trust me I have a masters from the Booth School of Business" self-taught experts who overreact to a random fluctuation on a google stock ticker claim it is.
The Xbox brand accounted for less than 8% of their yearly revenue for 2022. I'm sure that number will be in the same ballpark for fiscal year of 2023.
The operational costs for the Xbox brand like studio acquisitions, funding development, advertising, and running online services probably outweigh whatever revenue the brand brings in.
I'm surprised its as high as 8%
microsoft has so many fingers in so many pies they can afford a weak branch or two if they are convinced it has a future
They are no longer convinced
Microsoft makes so much off Azure and Office that keeping a foot in gaming is no big deal
keeping a club foot that doesn't make money, actually loses considerable amounts of money, doesn't have market clout, and does nothing but add additional studios and companies to your payroll to try and feed a dying subscription-based fire, makes no fricking sense
Gaming is Microsoft's 3rd biggest earner behind office and azure.
"Gaming" is pretty broad, I'd assume this includes mobile which is where the real money lies
Xbox has no mobile initiatives but they're starting them up soon so it'll grow even more.
Stuff by ABK like Diablo Immortal and Candy Crush make a ton of money for them already, don't they?
Not enough to recoup the cost of buying ABK + continued development + the cost of producing and maintaining Xbox hardware. Microsoft dug themselves a very very deep hole with no other way out but to go third party. Xbox games division is a dumpster fire with no real business plan. Their plan was basically “if we make gamepass a really good deal then people will buy Xbox consoles to use it!” But that never happened and now they’re fricked.
Watch as these posts get ignored by all the shills here to spread FUD.
>7 billion in revenue
>ABK acquisition costs 75.4 billion USD
Way to miss the point, shithead.
Even if gaymen was their third biggest revenue outlet, they still incurred major losses with acquisitions and operational costs.
Also, look at that discrepancy between 2nd and 3rd place. It's not even close.
funniest part is that the actiblizz numbers are included there. so that includes cod and diablo on playstation. no shit they wanna put everything 3rd party now, if they stop all those ports gaming is no longer making more money than windows for them.
What is the point?
MS is a trillion dollar company. They've already recouped the costs of buying activision blizzard for 75 billion within one year. Their gaming is third behind their server and office segments. Their gaming division is way more profitable then ever. They just decided to stop being a middling last place console platform and to become the most successful and profitable 3rd party publisher on the planet.
Why do xbox fanboys constantly talk about how much money MS is making as if it's relevant to anyone here. Where are the good games?
Im not even a Xbox fanboy, I dont own any of their stuff but they do pump out great games constantly though.
Like what?
Age of empires and Flight Simulator are what I like.
Probably the same reason Apple keeps dumping money into movies that keep flopping, they have infinite money and they like having that feather in their cap anyway
I never thought i'd see the day, but i think Apple + might actually be as bad as netflix.
Phil Spencer was responsible for saving the Xbox brand when they wanted to kill it. He managed to turn minecraft from a popular game into an international brand that helped promote windows a lot.
The Xbox division exists to force Sony to waste money to keep them out of the Microsoft's really money making markets. It worked so well that Sony had to abandon the Viao brand and is looking poised to give up their smart phone division now too.
sony has always been pushing for this breakthrough console live service MMO model after they heard about the success of ultima online
The original Xbox wasn't profitable, the 360 was.
Imagine fighting a long battle to maintain exclusivity, winning easily, and then saying nevermind. Absolutely incredible.
the real question is why haven't they fricking fired whoever names their consoles yet?
I unironically feel massively ripped off. Eventually they're going to turn off the servers and I'm going to be out of so much money. I usually buy physical but there's some shit like DLC and indie games that were only available through the store. This generation it feels like the majority of the games aren't even complete on disk either, so there will come a day when you will not be able to play Hogwarts Legacy, Jedi Survivor, or Starfield unless you already have it on your hard drive.
Xbox go home!
I don't even care about what name is on the console. XBOX just has a better controller and has backwards compatibility. The playstation controller feels like shit and you have to keep like 4 consoles just because they can't be assed to make one that reads all the older disks.
Backwards compatibility now won't matter when the Xbox servers go down and you can no longer authenticate new Xbox Series X consoles on setup
Just use Xenia and Xemu
I will never understand what they were thinking with Xbox One. It's fricking bad when confidently feel like I would have done a better job than this fricking doofus, like genuinely I would have on my own created a marketing plan for this system that would have resulted in millions of more consoles being sold.
They were literally a household name with the Xbox 360, it won that console generation, it doesn't matter that PS3 ultimately ended up selling a couple of more millions, Xbox was everywhere, they were the ones actually influencing the gaming space and were ahead of everything, PS3 was constantly lagging like bare minimum of a year behind the 360. How do you go from fricking beating playstation after the ps2, to completely fricking failing and killing your brand one gen later. Baffling, utterly baffling.
By giving up your lead halfway through the gen to chase the Wii audience. Kinect didn't flop, but MS weren't as untouchable as they thought they were by the time a new console generation was expected to roll out. Same problem as Nintendo's hubris with WiiU, but Microsoft's direction was more catastrophic whereas Nintendo's was merely confusing.
>How do you go from fricking beating playstation after the ps2, to completely fricking failing and killing your brand one gen later. Baffling, utterly baffling.
Hubris. They thought they had their X360 era userbase by the balls and that nobody would jump ship. Turns out that no, people did not care about their cheevos and gamerscore, and for gen 8 they would get whatever seemed best, and that turned out to be the PS4 even after MS backpedaled on their bullshit.
Gen 8 meanwhile did give manufacturers something to grab consumers by the balls, and that's their entire digital library. If half your games are in your PSN account, you're not going to get an XSX. And so MS lost gen 9 since day.
So, uh, legally, how the frick does this work? A major brand releasing on another major brand, aren't there rules that restrict this kind of thing on the legal side? Could it be that this was some deal they stuck in court during the Activision case?
>A major brand releasing on another major brand, aren't there rules that restrict this kind of thing on the legal side?
This anon actually thinks exclusivity is a LEGAL REQUIREMENT rather than a capitalist scheme to push their hardware. Do you see what the console wars have done to people, Ganker? Let them go. It's time for every game to be on every device.
>It's time for every game to be on every device.
tell that to Sony
No?
Honestly if you were really cynical and paranoid you could say this is Microsoft throwing out sacrifices to use in court so they can make even more acquisitions; I'm sure Embracer would love a cash injection right now and Microsoft would love having all those IPs and games to throw onto game pass. Starfield or Hi Fi Rush didn't really move Xboxes so what's the harm in tossing them onto PS5, but getting shit like Tomb Raider, Dead Island, Duke Nukem, etc. long term would make game pass even better looking.
The opposite in fact
Antitrust laws were passed back in the day to stop theaters from monopolizing exclusives
If the US government has any backbone it would apply the same standard now that virtually all consoles are just budget gaming pcs
>for those who want offline, we have a product for them its called xbox360
I seriously don't fricking know how could anyone think this is acceptable line.
what the frick was he thinking, was he sony spy trying to sabotage Microsoft?
did he had a stroke at that moment? or did he rolled bad disco Elysium thought
Never underestimate the ability of American boomers/painfully out of touch richgays to think they can talk to their customer like they're subhuman. Not even memeing, if you ever meet these people you'll come to understand why the West is perpetually catching on fire. They're completely detached from reality in a comfortable bubble.
Nobody brings up Dorito Pope's top tier follow up to that
"Oh okay, so 'stick with the 360?' That's your message?"
"W...well no, I..."
I've mentioned before that it highlights his sheer professionalism. I think he knew how much of a bombshell Mattrick just dropped and instead of being stunned speechless, he de-noised the statement and just said what he meant out loud back to his face. Skilled on-the-spot interviewing.
Mattrick left MS and became the CEO of Zynga where he proceeded to crash the company's highly profitable mobile games made for grandmas. That's how insanely incompetent he is, I don't know how anyone can say it's not his fault.
The real dead brand it's Sony, don't fool yourself.
They're both dead, mate. You might well see blue and green drop out of consoles.
>vr meme
yikes
This is the Special Olympics equivalent you realize right?
Oh yeah?, tell me more.
You are aware my comment was in response to someone talking about VR right?
>gaming contributed 7 billions
it's gonna take them a billion years to recover from ABK, especially considering the expenses of their future titles
Must suck to be a ps vr 2 user.
>Must suck to be a vr user.
fixed
Nintendo's choice is the best one, as it means they're easy to emulate.
>Must suck to be a ps user.
real fix
Nah, nothing he did compares to the damage Phil Spencer has done the last 10 years.
>Peter Molyneux shilled the Kinect, then called it a joke after he got his paycheck cashed
Why do you Black folk listen to any of these talking heads? Even Reggie was a moron. Loveable, yes, but still a moron who had no fundamental understanding of video games or even a passing interest in them. He said what it took to get Nintendo to pay him. That's it. That's all these homosexuals do for their respective companies.
Well, Ganker?
Was Xbox indeed the next water cooler?
so what will your average xbox normie do when the ps6 is out? buy a ps6, quit video games or go to pc?
>average xbox normie
>in 2024
Darwinism will eventually sort things out.
Don Mattrick literally gutted and killed Xbox's first party studios because he wanted to poach them for Zynga. I dont get how people can defend him in any way when he literally nuked Xbox as a brand thanks to the conference and destroyed everything they built up so they cant easily recover at all.
the switch is the only console i've bought in literally the last entire decade, and only because nintendo refuses to publish any of their games on any other platform
why would i buy a $600 machine just for one or two games out of the hundreds i can just play on my computer?
and no, you don't need a $2000 computer to play video games, that's only if you play exclusively AAA slop on high settings
>Sony: So I guess it’s just us now huh?
>Nintendo: Yes, as much as I despise you I always thought you were a worthy opponent.
>Sony: heh, thanks…you too.
>Nintendo: One last battle?
>Sony: One last battle….
>*Sony and Nintendo Unseeth their Katanas and rush towards each other*
fricking reddit post made me laugh
>Unseeth their Katanas
Tumblr moment
Can this be called a battle when a large majority of gamers owns both consoles? xbox bailing out just means nintendo gets the old rare stuff back and sony gets the other stuff.
Here's your cope xbros. Phil will either confirm everything shortly. Or he's trying to get as many eyes on this response to end rumors like this once and for all. Personally it's tax season and I got a decent return, it's pc time for me.
>xbox bailing out just means nintendo gets the old rare stuff back
It would require them to put money into porting it. Which lmao. They're dropping their own hardware entirely and you think they will care about n64 games.
porting over rare replay can't be that complicated. the market is there already.
It's not a matter of complication. More tendies would eat up cod then those games whether you want to admit it or not.
Thank you for reminding me that this same thing happened over a decade ago.
Just to clarify
Not only did he destroy XBOX with this reveal but just a couple years before this he actually annoyed Bungie to point of them leaving the brand.
They were fine developing Destiny under Microsoft which would have been better for the game but Microsoft wanted them to be the Halo Factory.
>destroyed and gutted all their first party studios in order to make kinect game
>destroyed Xbox's relationship with epic games and bungie causing them to leave
>destroyed Xbox's relationship with developers so they refuse to work for Xbox
>destroyed Xbox's relationship with japanese studios, causing them to lose trust in Xbox
>shut down multiple xbox first party studios
There's a reason why current Xbox is scared shitless at being tough at their devs due to Mattrick's Xbox being insanely controlling to devs.
microsoft is weirdly good at making products that are technically competent but completely fail to penetrate the market
remember the windows phone? they were actually pretty good phones, but fricking nobody bought them
Windows Phone's biggest single issue was the lack of apps because they were trying to muscle into an already established marketplace of iOS and Android dominance. The OS or phones being good doesn't matter if people can't get their favorite dumb apps on them. Plus, having had the misfortune of playing tech support for my mom, no they were pretty shit honestly.
herro prea
Phil and Reggie are going to team up and recruit investors for a new console called micronintenhomie
Man, Phil Spencer must be mad at this shit
He seems more sad about it.
Why isnt he denying it?
Why should he?
Because this shit is literally bleeding his brand customers who already are taking worst case scenarios as fact due to the way the internet works now where it doesn't matter if the news is real or fake
>bleeding his brand customers
A process that has been in motion with increasing momentum since like 2010. Why not maintain the status quo?
Because literal who's on X (formerly twitter) posted shit? Is he supposed to respond everything someone shit posts?
cmon guys spencer has been in charge for 10+ years how can it be his fault
>Sony churning out bland movie remakes and censoring anything with the slightest bit of sexuality not from western devs
>Nintendo giving us the latest hardware from 2010
>Japanese devs barely able to get working PC ports
This is sad bros.
Sony doesn't censor shit homosexual.
https://www.siliconera.com/omega-labyrinth-life-is-getting-a-censored-safer-version-for-ps4-and-full-busty-switch-version/

u wot m8
>make an objectively better console
>release no games for it
what did they mean by this?
Starfield was a game. MS bought Bethesda for this very purpose. To share the future of gaming with everyone.
It's a multiplat, doesn't count.
PC = Windows = Microsoft
What gets me is these homosexual executives always fail upwards too. He went on to Zynga and made loads of money.
I swear the business world makes no sense to me.
>“We’re not in the business of out-consoling Sony or out-consoling Nintendo. There isn’t really a great solution or win for us. I know that will upset a ton of people, but it’s just the truth of the matter. When you’re third place in the console marketplace and the top two players are as strong as they are
>"I see it out there. I see commentary that if you just build great games, everything would turn around," he said. "It's just not true that if we go off and build great games, suddenly you're going to see console share shift in some dramatic way.
>"This idea that if we just focused more on great games on our console, that somehow we're going to win the console race, I think doesn't relate to the reality of most people."
>CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer (2023)
What did he mean by this?
That stupid X-Cast appearance Phil made was such a bad bad move
He meant they already lost with the Xbox One, and there is nothing they can do to change that. They're just hanging around waiting for another way to make money out of their gaming division other than the traditional console war way.
The real issue was saying "Making games won't sell consoles". That just means you've given up on the business entirely
Well I take more as "making games won't sell (our) consoles" because their install base is capped by people who hated them for the Xbox One debacle and wouldn't buy their console no matter what games it had.
Making good games didnt save the Vita, gamecube and Wii U. Phil Spencer is absolutely right in knowing that they've lost the console wars completely by this point.
The vita had no system sellers unless you're into wipeout and anime games.
There were some genuine attempts at system sellers, albeit tone deaf ones. Titles like Uncharted Golden Abyss, Killzone Mercenary and LittleBigPlanet were technically proficient, but they were also just pared down versions of console titles. Sony wanted to push the thing as a portable PS3 and some of its early first party software suggests as much. It was a vision, albeit a misguided one.
The PS4/Xbone generation was the one where long term cloud storage properly came into play and in doing so locked people into their console brand of choice.
If you not only have your PS5 games but also your PS4 game on you PS5 then why would you ever think of moving over to the Series X ?
In that scenario your only market is diehards or people who are buying a third console.
Most normalfriends buy like 2 games a year
Lincoln should not be on this shit, he was a depressed man that committed many atrocities against young men, the ends justifying the means is something even he himself knew was wrong
There is no justification for the widespread murder of civilian boys forced into militias, America never truly recovered from this
>no Hitler
cringe
>20 Years ago SEGA left the console war with a bang; in many ways it's the greatest SEGA console ever.
>Sony at the time released the PlayStation 2, with a launch year so stacked it's one of the greatest consoles ever made.
>Nintendo does Nintendo things
>Xbox is born shortly after
Now
>Xbox after buying many companies and still somehow fricking up, leaves the console war on a whimper.
>Most of all, even after 10 years+ post Xbox One disaster, CANT MAKE ANY GAMES
>oh but HALO GEARS FORZA STARFIELD LOL
>Sony, even when none of their games are actually good, still sells more PS5s because capeshit and gay Black folk attracts normalgays.
>Nintendo does Nintendo things
What the frick went wrong?
4 Phillip Spencer approved games in 2023 for PC&Xbox
Maybe Phil doesn't know what a good game is. I mean he is a westerner after all
One Nintendo exclusive game in 2023 on 7 year old hardware.
>the switch is 7 years old
i can feel myself turning to dust
I knew inflation was getting out of hand but dang I didn't know it was creeping into the game scores too.
>Nintendo does Nintendo things
Win?
There was a time when Halo had literally 1M people playing at the same time back in the 2000s. That shit was UNTHINKABLE back then. Only games like WoW were able to pull that off. Halo 3 marketing campaign and launch was a huge cultural milestone for Xbox as brand. Even the US military was using Halo for enlisting.
How does Phil Spencer fall this hard with 3 trillion dollar Microsoft daddy backing you? How is Halo as their big boy brand IP 6 feet deep underground?
Xbox should have played dirty with their marketing for the Series S/X launch like how Sony played dirty with ps4 with the used game thing.
How would they do that? Literally no one wants the Series S
Series S was the only readily available console during launch at stores. Ps5 was never on store shelves for the first couple of years but the S was. The S was also cheaper than a Switch despite being a next gen system with the same CPU as a Series S. Maybe Microsoft should have advertised the S heavily by saying it can play CoD and Fifa for half the price of the PS5.
Sorry, same CPU as the Series X. Only difference between consoles is RAM and the GPU. Plus disc drive but normies hate physical games now.
>How is Halo as their big boy brand IP 6 feet deep underground?
Because Halo has feelings now instead of just being a pretty cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything
t. Phil Spencer
That's rough
People forget how badly Xbone unveiling went like it was looking DOA until they went full damage control and reversed every single decision
Let's not forget they decided to name it the fricking Xbox One, a naming decision that makes the Wii U look like the work of a genius.
they REALLY didn't want to be called the xbox 720p.
Ironically the Wii name unveiling got absolutely wrecked in online forums and normies didn't give a shit
Wii U name was only bad because they never fricking showed the console.
Had it been an obvious focus on it being a NEW CONSOLE (with a tablet controller) instead of THE TABLET CONTROLLER (for our new console), it would have sold way better.
I had no less than a half dozen conversations with people who thought it was an add-on for the wii
Normies might've confused it for an addon regardless considering all the pre-existing addons, accessories and games for the Wii with the Wii prefix. They should've just called it the Wii 2.
Let's see if they learn from the past and not call Switch 2 Super Switch but I don't see them calling it Switch 2 either it's not sexy enough
Wasn't their tagline also "beta tested in the future" for some of the billboards? Incredible marketing, like wow guys, I sure like the sound of that, it'll maybe be finished sometime next year.
That whole era with Windows 8 the tablet operating system for your computer and Xbox One the new watercooler was probably the most moronic one in Microsoft's history because of how massively they failed with ideas that were obviously terrible to everyone else.
What else went wrong besides thirdies seething about always online
It's over
Halo, Gears, and Hi-Fi on PlayStation!
If MS gets out of the console business, expect PS6 to cost $899
I don't get this thought process when the Switch 2 will probably get multiplats and be real competition, PC exists, and iPhones are starting to get real games ported to them . Plus the death of the Vita didn't make Nintendo put the Switch up to $500.
> Switch 2 will probably get multiplats and be real competition
Haha no, people said that since Wii U
>PC exists
Even more expensive
> iPhones are starting to get real games ported to them
Not triple A
>Haha no, people said that since Wii U
I don't think you understand diminishing returns and DLSS upscaling.
>Not triple A
Did you miss RE4R, Death Stranding, and RE8 getting native ports?
All last gen games that were on PS4. Not real tripboople A anymore.
That goes hand in hand with the diminishing returns of current tech. Phones are catching up to console gaming, just like portable consoles are. That's where the major shift is going to be. Turn off all the RTX and most games still run at 60 fps on 10xx series GPUs.
>it's the fault of the guy fired 10 years ago.
>definitely not the fault of the guy that has been given full control for 10 years.
Why are people not getting that nobody is saying Phil is guitless? We're just also saying the ball started rolling downhill with Don?
Depends on the anon but for the most part if you try to blame Phil others will pin everything on Don and the old gen. Phil had all the time and resources to redeem the platform but failed because he’s a pussy.
Game devs had no idea why gen 7 was so successful (it was the sense of community and good games) and impaled themselves on their own ignorance
The Xbox One reveal was insane. Full PC support was a blow. The end was Gamepass though, there's no way to ever come back from a desperation move like that unless it actually works and you rapidly monopolize the market. Now they are stuck with a stagnant pool of leeches who expect cutting edge hardware sold at a loss AND expect Microsoft to pay for all their games.
And they also think they're doing Xbox a favor by subscribing
Do you think things would be different if this stupid thing never happened?
With leadership changes around that time being what they were, not substantially so. But MS wouldn't have been on pins and needles with their core fanbase going into the Xbone reveal without this piece of shit so probably.
yes, the xbone being $100 more expensive than the ps4(due to the kinect) turned away a lot of buyers. the xbone was weaker than the ps4 so it made it even worse.
They were about the same but the Xbone reserved some power for the Kinect, eventually they removed the Kinect requirement and freed up that power but the damage was already done
The Xbone clocked the cpu slightly higher but had a weaker gpu model.
>eventually they removed the Kinect requirement and freed up that power but the damage was already done
No, the Xbone is worse than the PS4 in almost all regards. Slower memory (And two kinds on top of it), slower GPU. Even today games tend to get 1080p 30fps on PS4 and 900p 30fps on Xbone because of its limitations.
It's the XboneX which is considerably stronger than the PS4 Pro, but nowadays almost no developer bothers with those two.
>Gamepass? Don't worry about that, it'll sort itself out
>Disappears into the night
>muh CoD
>get fired
>still win
How
Sony never needed a gamepass, Microsoft made them think they did
He may have been incompetent but was right about gamepass being unviable in the long run.
Why did microsoft do these acquisitions and game pass crap if they would result in shareholders forcing them to scuttle the brand for short term gains.
Just deserts.
This is what they get for ruining Halo.
Okay but why did they acquire all those studios if they weren't going to make any games from them? Like why? It doesn't make sense. They only put out Bethesda stuff. They acquired so many fricking studios and we got no fricking games
Because they're trying to make stupid "AAAA" games that inevitably collapse under their own weight during development
Just trust the plan.
Industry "standards" bloat out AAA game dev cycles to 5 years minimum, closer to 7 if we're being honest.
The One was in 2013 and the Series X was 2020.
At the current rate most major game studios will be making at most 1-2 game per console generation.
They wanted to and then they realized it costs a shit load of money for like 2 to 4 years to actually make a video game and got the scaries
Starfield was Xbox's last chance. After spending that much on acquisitions, they needed something to show higher ups. Xbox did nothing over the holiday season even with a huge Starfield push and a price drop.
Now comes reality. Xbox didn't acquire anything. ABK replaced Xbox as the gaming wing of Microsoft.
They bought the wrong studio. Bethesda is incompetent and need a modding scene to fix their games.
If Microsoft goes third party, then I will no longer any video games for the rest of my life. I have any games on the Xbox family of consoles. I have never owned let alone touched a Nintendo or Snoy console. There are both children toys that are beneath me. All of their games are some of the worst piles of crap ever created by sub human hands. Microsoft's games are meant for the working man that does not have time for toys. If the Xbox console stopped being produced, I refuse to get a Piss Station or PC.
Their are millions of people like me. We will not turn our back on Xbox.
the fact that so many studios are under the Xbox umbrella and only one of them has made anything good and interesting is a real good joke.
Bethesda - Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 5, Fallout 76 (still be updated and making money)
Blizzard - WOW is still the king of MMOs, Hearthstone still the king of OCGs, Diablo 4 is getting an expansion soon.
King - still making money with its mobile games.
Activision - COD is still the king of FPS.
Please tell that you are a Snoy with out telling me you are a Snoy.
A less experienced Anon would dismiss you as a troll, but I just know you're an Indian from the unironic tone of moronation in your dialogue. How you named franchises on the basis that they're famous and not because they're good to play. ffs all the games you named are either flops on release still somewhat buggy to this day, online grindfests made to milk microtrabsactions, or even plainly unreleased/unannounced.
>fricking mobile gaming.
Frick off of this forum ranjeesh. you will never be a human. a ChatGPT bot has a better chance to conduct a conversation about city a than you ever will you cowshit devouring subhuman.
He may be an xbox shill, but king does print billions and makes up most of the 69 billion in value
The fact that Xbox is going to lose to moviestation really says something.
>snoys acting superior even though Sony was going to announce pretty much the same shit until they saw the reaction to the xboner
Sony was going to tone down their 200m budget movie games. Japanese stubbornness would never let themselves bring exclusives to Xbox.
Sorry, didn't meant the shit microsoft are doing now, I meant the shit they did a decade ago you know, heavily online focused, digital "mostly", a greater focus on wagglan, etc..
Be honest, would Xbone have sold better if it was called the xbox 720?
Also, what's with the names being so all over the place?
No, the names are part of the incompetence. If it wasn’t called Xbox series x they would’ve never been in this position in the first place.
This. Part of the reason why the New 3DS was a flop and barely got any exclusives.
M$ execs are moronic and think they are untouchable.
No, MS needed to come out with a console that didn't instill revulsion in people and some goddamn games.
They didn't want to have the Xbox 2 compete with the Playstation 3, now we're stuck with consistently moronic console names.
to be fair, this was microsofts decision since they wanted to expand their brand and be more intrusive in peoples lives like apple. mattrick was forced to try and sell it.
They "might" stop doing Day 1 releases.
They probably should, it's fricking moronic from a business standpoint.
I'd consider Gamepass if it was on PS5, but I still get the feeling they don't want my business.
OK, ENOUGH, SINCE YOU GUYS ALWAYS KNOW WHAT TO DO, LET ME ASK YOU THIS:
WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO SAVE THE XBOX BRAND?
Make one (1) fun video game
it's done. its reputation is in the dirt and MS obviously don't care enough to put enough effort into the brand/games etc etc
i wouldn't do this shit in the middle of the gen while still selling almost as much as sony in the us for starters
They've been losing ground for a while
yes, but they're losing a lot of good will by essentially throwing in the towel and crashing xbox hardware value right now
Sony already mentioned in the insomniac leaks that they plan to go 3rd party eventually. Nintendo will no doubt release their games on more platforms in a few more generations too since they're always late to everything like online gaming. Consoles as we know it will cease to exist within a decade or two.
They barely have any good will left to begin with. They've been a distant third place for many years, and things are only getting worse. They've demonstrated no ability to right the ship. It's okay to admit defeat and pivot toward a different model. It's smarter than continuing a strategy that obviously isn't working
What this shows is that PS5 didn't sell while there were no PS5s to purchase. Nothing else.
Microsoft paid top dollar to get priority with fabs during the chip shortage, but as soon as that ended and Sony stocked shelves, sales skyrocketed. People were simply waiting for the chance to get one.
It was a very short lived illusion of competition that did not reflect the wants of the market.
The problems with Xbox go as far back as the 360 like the RROD or the Kinect being made at all.
But I would have started commissioning some games upon the XSX development at the least
The only thing that can be done is come back swinging with an absolute masterwork from Halo, Gears or Forza - the only IPs that have ever actually carried Xbox anywhere.
Those are such 2007 dudebro IPs, though. They need new ideas
You're right, but what realistic alternative is there?
There isn't one, really. Xbox is cooked. I mean, theoretically, the $100 billion studios they bought over the years should be cranking out a very diverse offering of good games, but there's finding fundamentally broken about the games pipeline at Microsoft, and they clearly don't know how to fix it
Like i said earlier just go full weeb and buy more right for exclusives
>Monster hunter spin off
>Not-persona from atlus
>Soulike from Fromsoft
You already have Playstation, Switch and Steam for that. Who needs Xbox for weeb games? They're so far behind on that front that who would bite?
Fans of those series I assume
I mean at this point its better than nothing
>Those are such 2007 dudebro IPs, though
So was CoD, and it adapted to appeal to late zoomers. Nothing stops Halo from adding Lady Gaga, neon guns, or whatever the frick CoD did.
Cod is just “military shooter: the game”
It doesnt have much of a personality or art direction so they could change and add whatever
Halo or Gear cant do the same because it will look cringe as frick
Go full weeb and start buying exclusive jap games, they are the only one who can still make big budget games these days (just ignore Square Enix)
Yeah, like that horror kojimbo game
Cull every diversity hire out of every studio they own, cut all ESG practices out of gaming and then get to work on making games with able bodied white males in charge. Vidya dev eugenics. It really is that simple.
sounds beautiful
So is it just Nintendo and Sony left now? It's gonna feel really odd now when there's only two consoles left.
Dreamcast 2 is coming…they smell blood in the water…there are sega cells all over the world waiting for the signal….
PS5/Xbox/Switch have no games.
They are all shit.
End of story.
Thank you Don. It took it's time but your plan finally worked.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, PLACE YOUR BETS FOR THE FUTURE OF XBOX
PHIL SPENCER HAS SPOKEN
nothing ever happens
Anything that’s not utter denial means the rumors are true. Sorry Xboxsisters.
It's over
>”we’re listening and we hear you”
Such a nauseating phrase
Maybe they should listen and not hire pajeet contractors and maybe not make their flagship series a f2p chinkshit live service game
> our vision for the future of Xbox
>more games
>that never coming out
>or forgotten the next day
>Be aware of rumors literally tanking your reputation with your consumer base and even slightly affecting your stocks, even if temporarily, because shareholders are finicky
>Don't immediately deny the rumors, even if they end up being true, and instead implicitly confirm them
Fire this man

I'm officially out.
If you're wondering, you can still get $300 back for the Series X. Strongly recommend you do it ASAP as tons of Gamestops are going to be flooded with them and you'll probably get nowhere near 300 dollars back
Go frick yourself Microsoft. 20 fricking years for this?
>he bought an xbox in the first place
All that shit and you STILL need another $100 to buy a PS5. Please just stick to PCs everyone. These consoles are just fricking bricks that are slaves to whatever the Xbox or Playstation CEO feels like doing at the time. You never have to worry about this shit on PC/Steam
90% of console gamers have no idea how to build their own PCs and they look up the prices of Pre-builts and get scared away.
PC industry needs to change their barrier of entry, there's a reason why so many people stick with consoles
PC is easy if you're not a moron
I mean... there's a reason they're console gamers in the first place....
Imagine not being able to build a PC in 2024, you have to be sub 60 IQ
PC barrier of entry ultimately isn't that high compared to consoles, its mostly just that people fail to realize how much money their Xbox Live / PSN subscription adds up to over a few years, and that you also do not need the newest high end shit to play games at reasonable settings.
Consoles still win in convenience though - plug it in and it works, no need to fiddle with installations or settings, easier to fit and use it beside your living room TV without needing a mouse or keyboard.
>Consoles still win in convenience though - plug it in and it works, no need to fiddle with installations or settings
Not quite true anymore
This. I'm amazed that people are still falling for the console scam
PC won hard.
Don Mattrick >>>>> Phil Spencer
The only reason xbots idolized Phil it's because they were desperate for anything, and i really mean ANYTHING.
I'd love to see an alternate universe where Kinect bombed, this guy never took the reins of the division, and Xbox One was similar to PS4 in specs and price.
Good. Microsoft needs to learn that they can never introduce anti-consumer anti-freedom trusted computing measures. This goes far beyond Xbox.

I think from a marketing point of view they actually fricked things up with the naming of their consoles. Its so confusing and moronic i cant quite grasp what went through their skulls.
A little bit, but that's a post-launch issue. They had so many worse pre-launch issues that hardly anyone even considers that.
I have to directly compare to other console generations to remember which Xbox came when
>okay so 360 was PS3
>the Xbone was PS4
>and I guess the "series" is PS5
>everything else is some revision i guess and I'm going to fricking ignore it because it's all stupid
Good riddance. Everything wrong with the industry was started by microsoft.
Crazy how you can be at the top of the world only to blow it all away. Don fricked up and Phil made the wrong decisions. A shame really. The og xbox is probably my favorite console.
>Less competition
>Snoy want to do their own gamepass
Yeah its over, this industry is dead. Hopefully it shrinks back down to 6th gen.

Yup.

Oh no, it's moronic.
The Adrianople of gaming.

is this a real tweet? big oof
IIRC the guy was fired as a result.
Xbone was bad but the public was ready to forgive them when Phil took the reigns because ultimately all that matters is the games and Phil promised the games were coming. Microsoft could have had a never ending stream of games from all the studios they own but no they failed to deliver anything and instead they canceled most of the games that were in development for the bone and focused on subscription bullshit that no one except third worlders wanted.
Its funny, you get the feeling the Xbox brand only exists because someone (probably Gates) was just jealous and wanted a few extra million, so they made a console despite knowing frick all about how to do it.
Really, this was inevitable.
How has this not been posted yet?
