i fricking wish
Made for White Men
remember when people thought ps vita will play PS2 games lol
It really should have.
Why exactly did the Vita die anyway? I assumed it was the proprietary storage moronation and lack of exclusive games but the console itself seemed neat.
Sony tried to save it up to 2012-2013 but after that only Indie Devs gave them some games. The Proprietary storage was a big con, also even between its launch and that Killzone game there was not much to play with
They fricked up letting Nintendo get MH4.
The console was expensive, had the proprietary storage (which was ALSO expensive), library was good but felt niche, and the 3DS had a price drop so it was the cheaper option for portable gaming. The Vita was cool and I liked using mine a lot but I didn't really find many games on it I was dying to play compared to the 3DS' library.
Sony thought people buy portables for AAA exclusives.
No games. Square Enix and Capcom abandoned them for 3DS.
Sony also abandoned it
the vita died because sony literally killed it in the crib. If they had leaned in they could have had something special but they pulled all support for it early and it was only saved by modders and homebrew
Sony killed it through incompetence and moronation.
MH wasn't on it
>proprietary memory cars that cost a ton of money
>no support after it released, especially considering they were fighting the 3ds at the time
>stupid ass moronic back touchpad gimmick that no one used aside from maybe a handful of games or a little interaction in a few others.
gee, i wonder. i still have mine but i use it more as a psp emulation machine.
>Why exactly did the Vita die anyway?
Bad library and most of them cost as much as a console game at the time.
Objectively it was the best handheld if you looked past that.
the rayman origins machine
>more expensive proprietary memory cards in an era where Micro SD cards were becoming cheaper every month
>tried to claim it would have AAA ports of Western games while trying to hide all the Japanese support for the console
>The only Japanese support ended up being visual novels and dungeon crawlers too lewd to be on the 3DS
>Literally no backward compatibility with PSP and barely any with PSP minis and PS1 Classics
>NO MONSTER HUNTER
Sauce on lewd dungeon crawlers?
Dungeon Travelers 2 and 2-2
Demon Gaze 1/2
Genkai Tokki
Mary Skelter
Coven and Labyrinth of Refrain
Omega Labyrinth
Most of these are total trash though, only ones I liked were Dungeon Travelers and Coven
>NO MONSTER HUNTER
The real thing that killed the Vita. The PSP only lived because Monster Hunter was such a huge hit in Japan. The minute Capcom and Nintendo signed their exclusivity deal, Sony knew they were fricked.
Blame poorgay scum
Because Sony is unable to support two machines.
As an avid PSP user and major fricking nerd back then. In a few words
>By the time the Vita came out the PSP had gone through 4 hardware releases (not counting all the sub special editions)
>The PSP was cracked wide open and was a massive platform for piracy (which game devs frequently blamed poor sales on, which in truth was more related to Sony just not capitalizing on the golden console they had)
>Chose to use once again a custom memory card format after a decade of MSPRODUO being known as an inferior choice compared to SD/microSD
>Instead of doing what they had done previously and making their own hardware/core OS they used an Android Java base in the age of Smartphones outspeccing portable consoles
>PS Vita thusly became a glorified Android platform
>On top of this at the time, most AAA studios had abandoned portable games so Sony was forced to court ONE big player (Call of Duty), which did not sell at all
>Game stores now were stuck with a ton of these consoles and Game devs were refusing to jump on the platform (at the time mobile games were cranking massive stacks for comparatively simple games so AAAs had little interest in real games on portables)
>At this point the Western market for the Vita completely fell out of the bottom
>Sony more or less concedes defeat, stops courting western devs, puts the Vita on end of life, Japanese gamers get a few notable releases, but NOTHING in the western market
>By year 3 of its life the Vita was completely dead in the water, Sony dumped all plans and it died a quiet death a few years later.
3ds was cheaper, had a better library, and nintendo actually stuck with it through the rough start instead of cutting their losses and dropping all support like Sony
Corporate politics played a big part. The Vita died alongside the slow death of Japan's development studios as California started to take over Playstation. The Vita was Japan's baby; it was designed with Japanese consumer sentiment in mind. California was all in on the console. As California gained more and more power, one critical element to hobbling Japan's efforts at regaining position involved killing off its pet projects and devolving or outright closing its studios. It's probably one of the main reasons why Bloodborne never got a PS4pro or PS5 patch, and will likely never get a PC release. It's not just spite, the studio that collaborated with Fromsoft on it doesn't exist anymore. But the spite is there - Bloodborne is the kind of game Sony Japan could produce, in partnership with a third party, but still nothing like the very familiar samey third-person-over-the-shoulder-camera-cover-based-crafting-and-stealth-archery shooter that their Western collab studios tend to produce. If A Vita 2 does come along, it'll probably be a sign that Sony corporate in Japan is displeased with how America's handled Playstation.
Pineapple
it literally wouldn't matter because modern devs and sony don't have the soul they once had.

banana
No
I mean, how many PS4 and PS5 exclusive titles are we talking about that are still left?
What's banana?
Can't wait to play amazing games such as god of war and spiderman... yay... thanks sony...
No fricking way papus its real?!
AMD Apu Apustaja
also having a x86 processor in a mobile device is moronic
Why wouldn't I just buy a steam deck? I'm not missing out on the 3 PS exclusives worth playing and it'll be a while before there's homebrew that lets me do what I could've just done from the beginning with a steam deck.
0 games
Sony will never make another handheld again
They wont make a dedicated handheld but they will make a hybrid.
Graphics already look the same as last gen so adding hybrid functionality is a no brainer with how popular the deck and switch are.
the "leak" saying it could play ps4 and PS5 games just seems like bullshit to me honestly, unless it's a super expensive handheld with no battery life. I don't believe for a second this thing being real.
By the time it launches the PS5 will be 5 years old.
You could run PS2 level games on handhelds in 2005 when the PS2 launched in 2000.
>You could run PS2 level games on handhelds in 2005 when the PS2 launched in 2000.
It was different time and different architectures
PSP couldn't play PS2 games, but could play PS1 games because it had PS1 chip
PSP games looked like PS2 games because it was different arch and was optimized for it
PS4-PS5-PS6 will be x86 forever, so only performance uplift you get through node improvements, and it's not that much these days
SteamDeck is running ps4 games
> it's a super expensive handheld with no battery life.
why is it so wide
>capable of playing PS5
Okay buddy
It's been 10 years and Sony has even less first party studios making games.
What would be the point of this device?
>Series S is bad for the industry, it's too weak to handle current gen!
Can't wait to see positive dev and media reactions to Snoystation Portable
why would anyone give money to sony after what they did to the Vita and psvr 2.
It tooks YEARS but we finally did it...TWO THUMBTSTICKS.
banana
is there any indication this is real outside of some homosexual youtuber larping as le epic leaker
>playstation 2
>PS4 games
Eat shit. Can it play PS1 and 2 games?
You can play PS2 games if you pay $30 a month for the 3rd tier of our new PS+ program, which will allow you to buy PS1 and PS2 games. If you'd like to play PSP games, you need to pay for the next tier up.
>PSP2
>Next Gen Portable
But anon, that's already a console

>Sony see Nintendo and Valve making a bunch of money with their portable systems
>Sony crawls back to the handheld market after letting the Vita die a dog's death

This is so amateurish, gone are the days when sony used to develop their own hardware.
We live in a culturless time where more people than ever play games on pc
