Looks good, but my fear is that all the planets are just whole lot of empty with some Skyrim tier "cities" sprinkled in between.

        Anonymous

They confirmed three big cities on separate planets. We haven't been shown smaller settlements. Can also be taken as confirm how a frickton majority of the planets will just be empty, unsettled outpost playground for "le emergent gameplay". That "thousand planets" Todd ended with isn't really giving much to look forward to.

        Anonymous

From everything I've gathered, you're almost on the money.
Todd has said that they put a whole lot of empty iceballs and such into the game just because they could, to add more realism and empty space to the game about exploring the vastness of space. You can land on these places, but much like a researcher or explorer out in the arctic, you're going to have to find your own enjoyment.
There'll be four "major cities", the three we've seen so far appear to be larger than Skyrim/Fallout ones. A couple crowd shots show 30-40+ NPCs in a single part of the large cities, which is more than half of the largest city in Skyrim. They've claimed New Atlantis will be the largest city they've ever created. Akila City on the other hand looks only a smidge bigger than Whiterun.
If there are Skyrim-tier settlements outside the four cities, they'll be the Starfield equivalent of Morthal and such.

Whether it's through the game itself or mods, I know there will eventually be a way to space people. It just has to happen.
The main question for mods is whether in the base game you'll be able to do spacewalks from your ship, and whether NPCs or the player can suffocate. If yes to both, then it would take a very simple mod turning surrendered enemies (Social perk in the base game can force an enemy to stop fighting for a time, expand on that a smidge) into pseudo followers to do this:
            >Board enemy ship
            >Shoot most of the crew
            >Intimidate a couple into surrendering
            >Use the follower command system to walk them to an airlock
            >Open it up and watch them go

              Anonymous

I'm curious if the game actually lets you walk about your spacecraft mid flight or you can park up somewhere in the void. I'm all for planet exploring but if you are able to indefinitely live out in space that would make for some neat playthroughs. The mods alone will speak for themselves in time.

          >you're going to have to find your own enjoyment.
It's so bizarre that people always swear by these extremely flat """RPGs""" when they could be doing everything in this upcoming game and dramatically more in far more interesting and robust simulators. Is it purely convenience?

            Anonymous

            >Is it purely convenience
Largely, yes. I think the difference in simulations vs rpgs is depth vs breadth. With a good simulation you can do all kinds of things and create all kinds of scenarios, but many stories don't perform well in them unless you create the story yourself. RPGs won't go as deep as simulations but they can go 'further' in a sense because the game is handling the systems that a player would manage in a simulation.
Like creating a Minecraft adventure game from scratch vs playing one someone else made, and also the difference between playing Mass Effect vs reading the event text box in Stellaris. It's both the amount of work the player wants to put in, and the difference in the scale of events.

Clarke's Third Law is flawed imo. Just cause it's indistinguishable from magic doesn't mean it's accepted easily like magic is. By the nature of being tech, people want it to have structure and mechanics, which means inventing technobabble for all the shit under the surface. Magic gets away with just working, you don't even need to put effort into explaining it. Why are there 20 types of Khajiits from house cats to 12 foot bipeds? Moon magic, it just works.

          What exactly is the problem?
That sci-fi inherently needs more explanations due to the fact that it's science/matter based and not fantasy?

            Anonymous

I'm just making assumptions based on what anon said.
If I had to make a further leap, my guess would be the issue is that every invention and explanation brings you further away from what is naturally understood, like an offshoot of the 'show don't tell' complaint. If you show something and it's not inherently understood, that could be considered an issue.
Me, I love seeing all the explanations and explorations of how technology could evolve over the centuries and how it may affect people's lives. The first season of The Expanse was great for that. Guy gets his arm chopped off by an industrial accident, the next scene he's receiving medical treatment to seal the wound quickly and talking with his co-worker about health insurance; whether the company is going to frick him with a second-rate prosthetic that doesn't even have temperature sense.

This is huge. Fallout 4 had to be moronic strict out of the box about custom animations because of the Havok license expiring. Bethesda having their own in-house animation system means it can be included in the CK, so custom animations for weapons, characters and other shit can be done from day one by anybody.

Uh, Because switching to a new engine new game = good, bigly good. New engine = good, just look at frostbite and its role in the development of ME:Andromeda, we need to have a new engine guys! Bigly good, replace all the studio's internal tools and workflows so we can have bigly good big new UE5 lighting presets!

                >Knows Gankertards are tech illiterate
                >Posts on Ganker calling Gankertards tech illiterate over some opinion or another
At this point you're just pissing in the ocean, saying nothing.
                >Pretends this great insight is worth having a "tech discussion" about
                >Demands other people give some measure of worth before engaging in said "tech discussion"

                >Give nothing out, get nothing in. The tech illiterate Gankertards continue to not have a "tech discussion"
Ultimately, your post didn't help discussion in any way and likely convinced more people that Bethesdrones really are braindead consumers. If you're looking to change minds about something, such as "Gamebryo is an ancient outdated engine bringing Bethesda down", create worth and bring facts. Not just for the people you're having a discussion with - if you bring worth, you can actually begin such a discussion - but also for lurkers who will absorb the information posted and potentially repost it. I've seen my infoposts take on their own life, and it brings far more satisfaction than duking it out 1v1 with a moron on here. It's nothing to do with the engine and everything to do with Bethesda's work ethic. Civilization has been on Gamebryo multiple times. Catherine was made on Gamebryo.

There's rumors flying around that Starfield might be delayed again to the back end of 2023. Either something is going wrong or Bethesda doesn't want a repeat of 76 and is spending absurd amounts of extra dev time just squashing bugs.

Based, the issue with proprietary engines is as in the case of Bethesda incompetence in addressing issues and implementing new features, aka lacking good coders. Replacing everything with U5 only gives us all games feeling exactly the same which is what's happening now with Unreal and Unity.

Sure, on Xbox they'll have a heavily curated and moderated mod selection like Creation Club with previous games, but I'm pretty sure nothing changes on PC. Of course they don't officially endorse futa slavery rape mods or whatever, but they know a huge thriving mod scene is what gives their games long term sales.

What's the over/under on the game permitting us to play as a pirate? My presumption is either 0% or only in the sense that the lack of actual space travel mechanics means you'll never encounter another ship naturally.

        Anonymous

I'd put it at 80% currently. You can join the Crimson Raiders, the pirate faction, and while I'm also on the same assumption that coming across ships won't quite be as natural as flying along and spotting one, (I think you can warp into orbit to meet ships based on if there's a ship icon over the planet, like in the bottom left of pic related) Todd has mentioned in the IGN interview that space encounters will have some variety:
        >"It's not just dogfighting, like the ship stuff includes, you see it in the video, you can dock with other ships, you can disable them, you can dock you can board it. There's actually some quests that involve that. You can steal the ship. There's dialogue in space, there's star stations you can visit, there's smuggling there's pi- it's you know all the things that we would want, and we'll be showing some more of that later.
That "pi-" sounds like he was going to say piracy.

No, I bought it up because I know the fps limit and unadjusable for are two common complains with their games, and both were addressed years ago in their most recent title. That's all. Neither of these things are an issue anymore. Atleast not in 76, and presumably they will not be an issue in future Bethesda games either.

Huh? Are you implying that we won't see these things present in Starfeild even though they are present in their most recent title? I guess it's possible, but highly unlikely given they already have these features present in their most recent game, and especially so with how highly requested these things were for years and years before the release of 76, I doubt they will refuse to include them in their newest game or any games they release from now on.

I do find it funny niohgays were shitting on elden ring so hard for body types and then their next game shows up and as anybody with half a brain was expecting has body types as well

interestingly though Mordhau just added women and although it says body type instead of gender the body types are still referred to as male and female instead of A & B, maybe there's still some hope

also worth noting that although we saw body type A and B in the previews there has been no sign of the promised separate pronoun option, i'm hoping that means they scrapped it

That's how it was done in previous games, however I think that by having pronouns it will allow for a more natural dialog system when convesring with more than one character

The Dragonborn, for instance ,is never referred to as he/she (afaik), and therefor the dialogue can at certain points seem a bit stilted, as the player is never referred to in what is in real life, a commonly used context in human speech: Third Person

There'll likely be some moments where the person you're talking to also talks to someone else in your presence, like in Skyrim when meeting Balgruuf.
It also could factor into passing dialogue or radio "Did you hear about the explorer who did X? I heard [pronoun] managed to..."
It wouldn't add too much extra effort.

Same here, only games I'm looking forward to playing are Wo Long and Starfield, even if they have been "trannified" like the other anon said.

Where will you be when Starfield will be another buggy mess with stripped down mechanics to pander to morons and soulless procedurally generated content like the last 4 bethesda games?

Modding is Bethesda’s bread and butter, changing the engine can seriously ruin that

It's gonna be bad and everyone already knows that.

Bethesda will follow Rare's fate and end up developing a bad multiplayer in the future that is gonna flop in less than a year after release.

I can't understand how Bethesda failed so hard. It's last good game was release in 2011. From Software made like 5 good games in that period while Bethesda did nothing but shit multiplayers and a bad Fallout sequel.

Fallout 4 had slavery mods, so there's a good chance you'll eventually be able to run space slavery settlements in Starfield.

What are the chances of someone ripping out all the ships from Star Citizen and porting them into Starfield? Because that would hilarious.
