Emil and Todd are both fricking morons that have no clue what they are doing. The assets that exist within Starfield prove that it could be a perfectly solid 8/10 even with its subpar writing. I feel bad for everyone that worked on this shit because all the pieces were there to make something decent.
But no all that hard work has to go to waste because lil toddy and his pet manchild boytoy had a vision that was completely half-baked.

            >only sales matter

4 million sales in 2002 on PC (OG xbox was barely a thing) with no unified distribution platform vs 60 million sales on steam + xbox and PS3, a generation where console and gaming boomed like never before + re-releases of skyrim just so bethesda can milk it.
            That's very impressive.

Now let's look at the quality of the products, ((salesman)).

Fallout was relevant to the point that Power Armor and Perk points were added to a shitload of vidya.
Bethesda made Fallout into a braindead franchise for mass appeal and merchandise, which is ironic considering what stuff like Vault Boy stoos for.

Microsoft is anything but hands off, look at Lionhead and Rare or any other studio under them.
Starfield was the lasr game developed by Bethesda themselves.

If ES6 disappoints in similar fashion I can see MS pulling another 343i by firing tons of people.

That's exactly what's going to happen and I'll just be sitting down and laughing at the bemoaning of all their drones.

I doubt Microsoft will want 6 year development cycles either so you'll probably see more games in the Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises by other companies.
Most will also likely be shit due to Microsofts piss poor management.

inXile and Obsidian are going to get absolute fricked as well once that Bioshock clone, Clockwork, and Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed take a frickton of time to make due to Microsofts management and then fail to make a hefty profit.

Give it 6 years and all these companies are going to be ran into the ground by Microsoft.

That doesn't matter. They acquired them and had power over them way before Redfall was pushed through the door. If they had any balls they would've canned the fricking game after seeing it in the studio. This. Even deep immersion space sims like Elite and Star Citizen suffer from this. Space exploration is exciting in real life but it does not translate to video games in the same way. one thing to spot a normalgay is how much they gush about "value". they always talk about stuff like "duuude i get hundreds of games for 10 bucks" and maybe play two or three in a year, by which point they would've probably spent less buying them individually.
reminds me discussions with people on f2p monetization where people would take "dude you pay 40 to get a skin and a free battlepass and coins, that's like 100 dollars of stuff! how can you say it's a ripoff?" even tho the value of that stuff is one cosmetic, monopoly money and a bunch of cosmetics you don't know about yet.

As soon as I heard that Starfield is supposed to have NASApunk aesthetics my only reaction was "why?"
Or rather: why didn't they go for early Expanse style single star system? It could be our own Solar system with different factions being different planets fighting for power vacuum after Earth got wrecked. It could be some other handmade star system, with excuse that whatever wormhole connected us with Earth broke down so we are kinda stuck here.
That way aesthetics and world wouldn't clash as much, especially if it's our own solar system.
But I guess that would require coherent design, and Bethesda wanted to flex their ability to generate empty worlds, so here we are.

Their super long development cycles is telling and that's going to be over with Miccrosoft because it's stupidly long and expensive for very little return, even moreso with Starfields reception being lukewarm at best.
I doubt they can stop the use of Gamebryo or the development cycles without firing galf the compangy though, they'll probably do that and outsource even more than Bethesda did for Starfield.

        >easy to mod
        It's not easy to mod.

While the engine is quite "open", the modding capabilities do not come from Betheda but from 20 years of modding Gamebryo and the Creation Engine.

You won't go far in creation engine modding without a script extender and its plugins like PapyrusUtil, JContainers and FISSES. Why? Because only those plugins can add new native functions (in the hundreds by now) and essential stuff like serializable arrays, maps, etc. Without FISSES, MCM Settings would not exist, because only this plugin allows the creation engine to reload variables dynamically on the disk without forcing you to reload a save or restart the game. Yes, you read it, most mods wouldn't exist if they solely relied on a raw creation engine or the creation kit. Most functionalities were added by modders for modders, not by bethesda.

That's why for the moment you mostly have asset and variable swap in Starfield. Without a proper script extender and adequate tools to mod the creation engine, it's barely more moddable than Unreal. The difference being that CE can be extended with user made code, that's all, but the mods and the tools to make those mods were created by the community.

Now even with these tools, modding the creation engine is not easy by any means, and if you've ever used the creation kit, you'd know that it's full of bugs and crashes a lot. Creating quests, stories and placing NPCs isn't particularly easy either.

Last Bethesda game I bought was Skyrim for 20 bucks in 2013 and I regret it.

maybe if they improve the writing and gameplay over Skyrim, but after Shartfield I have my doubts

Man I love watching Ganker constant seething for this game. That's how you know Starfield is a great game.

Exploring endless loading screens more like it

The loading screens last for less than 1 seconds like a flash of lightning. Maybe you need to improve your computer but you probably can't afford one lol

Seems like people are playing the superior space game

And here is Starfield as of 31 minutes ago.

I'll never understand why people like trying to hate things so much. Especially when it comes down to using things that don't even matter as measurements to support it.

It's a joke anon, relax, I don't even care about No Man's Sky.
Want to know why I personally hate Starfield? Cause they just had to mix Elite Dangerous and Skyrim and they didn't, instead they tried to reinvent the wheel and failed miserably. Also space magic, what the frick is up with that in a "nasapunk" game? I gave up after 20 hours of stuttery gameplay and endless loading screens without having piloted my spaceship ONCE in the space game.

          >I gave up after 20 hours
But I thought it was supposed to get good after 20 hours? Or was it 25?

          >I was just being ironic

OK sure. Regardless I was speaking more in a general sense with the second part of my reply and the main point of it still stands.

Yup. The superior space game that has more than a dozen DLC and expansion tier updates for free, VR for free, multiple vehicles, manually flying around planets, fully exploring planet sized planets with 0 invisible walls, and 0 loading screens outside of warping to a different system. Life is good.

12 million sales says otherwise. But nice try.

So you have up before the game becomes great? Lmao imagine being this stupid. That's like going to the Disney world entrance then turning around.

What are you supposed to do in Starfield after you beat it?

I heard it has a couple variations in the main quest when you replay it, but what's there to engage with?

Why didn't they just copy FO4? All I wanted was Fallout in space with better gunplay. How was that so hard?

There must have been a big meeting during development where the entire story and world is laid bare and they decided to put the giant galaxy wide war and shit into the past and you fly around in a neutral peace zone all the time.

Find these people and fire them and banlist them from the software-dev world

Are gamers genuinely just the stupidest people ever? I cannot even fathom how people were excited for stuff like No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk, Fallout 76, or Starfield because of how much delusion it requires. I know that not everybody is an adult, but jesus.
