>- I want some interactivity during battle
Inherently adds no depth to strategy. It's nice and all, but everyone bringing it up as an objective improvement won't touch games that have this but aren't directly Mario-related. >- I like being able to avoid enemies in the overworld
There are many games that allow this. Random encounters are becoming pretty rare. >- Frick anime >- Frick traditional fantasy/sci fi themes
And there are other RPGs that don't offer these or aren't traditionally using those styles or settings.
mario rpgs are almost always aiming to be fun even if they get a bad rep by fans (like sticker star)
other rpg games (especially with "rpg" in the title) almost always falls into the same boring ass gameplay loop
I'll play Devil's advocate and say that Mario RPGs really make timing hits a fun thing to do. I played Legend of Dragoon and additions were a fricking slog that killed the pacing of a fight. I was wishing the game was just regular with no timed hits by the end.
On the other hand, doing a jump in paper mario/mario and luigi feels great because its quick and has excellent sound design. Not to mention, great production values and excellent spritework that makes the whole thing pleasant to look at.
Zoomers see something happen literally once or twice and are like "bruh this has gotten old fr fr i must make some epic satire". Also I'd understand if Mario fans were out there shitting on Final Fantasy or SMT, but this is literally defending slopware used to bloat the Switch directs to make it seem like they have more content than they do.
>impress
I'm not trying to. You said I'd never played another RPG and now you're moving the goalpost. >you didn't even make it that far in any of them either
Yup, but not because of a difficulty spike. Just because of boredom.
You didn't impress me, because you didn't prove shit. You named some JRPGs, said they were shit, and didn't elaborate. So either you didn't make it very far in them, or you're a fricking liar
Which people jerk off the Mario RPGs almost always do.
I like the Mario RPGs, but there's always some spergs like you who "b-but what about OTHER JRPG"

Why would I lie about trying out a couple of games that I ended up not enjoying? I'm not THAT petty.

The to jerk off your own opinion about other JRPGs, because they aren't Mario and clearly inferior because they aren't babby first RPG, which is what all the Mario RPGs are, maybe even more than Pokemon, they're meant to RPGs for literal children. Not to say they aren't good, but that is what they are.
And yes, you absolutely are that petty, or at the very Mario RPGgays are. Bringing up other JRPGs just to say how much worse they are.

I didn't bring it up. OP brought it up. >because they aren't Mario and clearly inferior because they aren't babby first RPG
No, that's not what I said. I said they're boring. Any tactical depth they might have can easily be overcome by grinding. I don't remember much about the writing except the bad parts. Fire Emblem character when someone dies: >why..... now?
What do you mean "why now"? As opposed to what? Old age?
>action commands >no random encounters >no grinding for levels >a lot of focus on exploration and puzzles >creative characters that aren't just anime girl 342
idk man give me some good rpgs, im open to enjoying them but almost never do
its not that they do any one of theese things on their own its that they do all theese things
if you know of a good rpg that does all or atleast a majority of theese things i would be more than happy to play it but its never been the case for any of the highly aclaimed rpgs that i have played
>they don't do anything other RPGs don't
obviously there are other RPGs with action commands, but I feel like very few do them as well as the Mario RPGs do.
I think Barkley seriously does them a bit better by allowing a bit more freedom in how you use them instead of just "press A at this time" or "hold Y". Allows for more emergent gameplay than Mario RPGs for such a short, joke game.
commands
Xenoblade 2 has them. Mother 3 has them. LISA has them. Barkley has them. Yes, it's engaging. No, it's not unique and outside of the occasional infinite jump it doesn't add much other than being regular damage at the very least, or a crit at best. >>no random encounters
Many RPGs in general don't have them anymore or at least minimize them. SMT, Dragon Quest, Xenoblade, etc. >>no grinding for levels
Grinding is rarely necessary anymore in the genre unless you're doing some 100% bullshit on your own. >>a lot of focus on exploration and puzzles
Not unique to Mario RPGs, and the puzzles aren't by any stretch difficult since they're almost always "use the new ability you have". Do you also think destroying all the parts of a boss except the obvious weakspot and then attacking that is unique to Mario RPGs? Because shit like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy have done that for decades.
characters that aren't just anime girl 342
Making what is normally a Goomba and giving it a hat and a one-dimensional character trait isn't creativity. They honestly have as much depth as a flanderized Sonic character and stop mattering once they join the party.
>Xenoblade 2 has them. Mother 3 has them. LISA has them. Barkley has them
Mother 3 and LISA have the exact same audiences that say "I don't like JRPGs except Paper Mario and this and that"
Xenoblade 2 is anime coomer slop though.
Well you're not wrong, but I think unless it has some more freedom in action commands than timing and ONLY timing, it's not as engaging as build customization. Part of the fun of an RPG is building (and in greater cases, rebuilding) your party to demolish harder encounters. If you're just relying on reflexes to win a battle as is the case with M&L, you're more or less playing an action-rhythm game with numbers, and putting ANY thought into your builds (everything into Attack) will just destroy a boss battle very quickly. It's not necessarily bad as that puts you at risk in case of a misinput, but you don't really need to think or plan, just get the timing right a few times and there you go.
>rpg with westoid 3d realistic trannies and mystery meat >rpg with cute anime girls
Now tell me which one you'll pick. And if you don't try to be a contrarian moron, you'll understand why people like mario rpg : because it allows them to visit more in depth the world of mario that they grew up with.
How is that shit hard to process for you, I'm not sure.
>I would play RPGs if they were like Paper Mario >I would place racers if they were like Mario Kart >I would play sports games if they were like Mario at the Olympics
Starting to sense a trend...
>>I would play sports games if they were like Mario at the Olympics
I wouldn't mind more game collections like those. Vancouver was top ludo with that adventure mode.
The bing-bing-wahooPGs have more active things going on, like timed hits or whatever gimmick like holding and flicking the control stick or something. It makes them more engaging to the sorts of people who can't normally get into RPGs, which is what makes them both good and bad as babby's first RPG because they may expect a more active experience and then be disappointed with the resource management and strategizing focused gameplay.
I don't know anyone like this so I can't relate.

I will kill a homie for SMRPG

Bowser's Inside Story was legit. The rest of M&L is ass.

Unironically yes, compared to bing bing JRPGs at least

I think a lot of people hold the opinion that Mario RPGs are better than regular RPGs and they're absolutely right.
Congratulations on discovering the power of brand names, OP. I hope you'll frick off and stop shitting up the board.

Every Mario RPG unironically has better writing than any other JRPG
9 times out of 10 whenever somebody says shit like this, they've never played any other RPG
Name one better RPG then
SMT: Strange Journey
Phantasy Star IV
Final Fantasy VI
Dragon Quest V
Vagrant Story
Chrono Trigger
Zero No Kiseki
I've played some FF6 and Golden Sun. Also three pokemon games. It all sucked.
I forgot, I also played two Fire Emblem games.
I forgot because the writing was so forgettable.
See
Wow, not only did you not impress me, you also have shit taste. Willing to bet you didn't even make it that far in any of them either

not sure why you are focusing on party members exculsively
Where basedjak?
Mario’s universe is just way more fun and appealing than the rest.
This is a jak board.
Please remake your post with jaks.
