If this is a japanese vidoe by a japanese person for a japanese audience then good. But if you go to that video and half the comments are in english with someone going "goof on you for calling out wokegays" then its a nothungburger.
Depending on the context >It can't be helped. >It's inevitable >Nothing we can do about it >It's out of our hands >It's beyond our control >No way around it, I guess... >We have to deal with it >It's unavoidable.
etc.
You can't translate that as "it's inevitable even if we get lost". It makes zero fricking sense. It has to be "It can't be helped". What this sentence is saying is that you may get lost, but oh well, there isn't shit you can do about it.
Maybe rephrase it as, "We may get lost, but there's no other choice."

It can't be helped.
if you cared you would learn Japanese, English translation is awful for Japanese regardless
Trick question, 100% depends on context.
Not every 仕方がない is equal in an "it" can't be helped way. Not only must you be aware of how it is being used and that it can be used in more than 1 way, you must still be adept at rendering it in English that suits each individual scenario it appears in.
Bad example of context.
The other two definitions are used as a phrase modifying a now or after a verb in the te form as part of a specific construction.

Not every 仕方がない is equal in an "it" can't be helped way. Not only must you be aware of how it is being used and that it can be used in more than 1 way, you must still be adept at rendering it in English that suits each individual scenario it appears in.
It's also worth pointing out that there are times where you literally CANNOT translate it to anything resembling "it can't be helped"
For example 暑くて仕方ない or 気になってしかたない can't be translated to "it's so hot, it can't be helped" or "I'm worried about it so it can't be elped", but rather "it's extremely hot" or "I just can't get it out of my head". The amount of "translators" who don't understand this is astonishing
>The amount of "translators" who don't understand this is astonishing
That's why one of the first questions I like to ask people who are into translation is "what books/light novels have you read in the last 3 months in Japanese?"
If they can't answer this question and name at least 1 book per month, their opinion is worthless.
Someone who regularly engages with the language through reading has had lots of time to work out the kinks in their understanding of thousands of words/phrases. Many translators and almost ALL fan translators literally haven't ever completed even the simplest of light novels.
Because understanding half of the dirty talk isn't going to cut it. Listening to relentless moaning and ohoge voices while they are squirting an en entire lake is great and all, but also fully understanding their musings makes it even better.
Being able to read untranslated media is also neat I suppose.
That's the problem, the result of poor localization being "learn Japanese" is blaming those who are dissatisfied, rather than going after the actual problem (localizers and troonylators)
>rather than going after the actual problem
The actual problem is economical.
Who do you think gets the license for panty quest 4? The company who offers a 10% return but is planning on hiring the highest quality translation team in the world, or the company who offers 90% but will have the game run through Google translate and rewritten filled with memes?
The margins are thin. The consumer base isn't remotely discerning. There's no merit in doing a good job, and doing a good job means you're likely to go bust if the game doesn't sell.
If good translations made economical sense, we'd have them already. All the dogshit merchants would've been bankrupted after their first game when everyone realised they rewrote every other line. What actually happened? Garbage like Blaustein and WD is revered. Modern troony slop still sells. So if you want to fix the system, you have to fix the CONSUMER. What's easier, convincing millions of people that they wasted 60 bucks, or working it out by yourself and skipping the middleman?
>If good translations made economical sense, we'd have them already.
This is incorrect. This is like saying 'If computers made economical sense, we'd have them already' to IBM 70 years ago. The market is untapped because no one has made an attempt to penetrate the market.
We have a case study of what happens when you put a little effort into localization: Crunchyroll. Which is now a massive distributor. We don't get good translations because nobody has ever tried it, they hire the same 10 blue hairs in California and assume it's been a job well done, and then their slop flops and Japan is left scratching their heads, thinking people just didn't like the game.

Holy frick, have a nice day.
CR have never put any effort in. They hire the exact same blue hairs, anime translation work is fricking abysmal. They got their position by being the first ones to go legit, nothing more, nothing less.
There aren't guys out there going "huh, why didn't we just do a GOOD job? How amazing, thank you anonymous poster, you've saved our company!". There's a wide array of translators out there, from the autistic, to the trannies, to the autistic trannies, and none of it makes any real difference to anyone's bottom line.

They hired the same people who were doing work for Fansubs. Granted, most fansubs are crap, but that was miles better than whoever the literal frick was doing subbing work previously. Most of it being unintelligible garbage.
The bar is so low that's all they would have to do in order to see immediate success, and CR proves that. Your statement that it's purely economics that no one wants good localization is purely a projection.
CR's main opposition wasn't other fansubbers, it was 4kids. Who was also doing a "good enough job to where it didn't affect anyone's real bottom line", until someone better came along. You seem too angry to be having this conversation rationally.

CR did well because they were the first guys to do digital distribution. That's it. Nothing to do with the quality.

Oh yeah Pokemon and One Piece, just some random kids shows, all anime is for kids anyway, right?
CR ate their lunch because even a little effort was better than no effort at all. So we got something better. Eventually something will come along that replaces CR. >they only got phased out because people complained about how shit of a job they were doing.
They got phased out because they couldn't keep up with the market, and the market was digital distribution. Once CR landed a distribution deal, the whole thing was over overnight.
What you're doing is like insisting that VHS died out because the companies making them were doing a bad job. No, something more convenient came along. Past digital distribution, there isn't really any improvement to be made. All there is now is more soulless cable wars with every different fricking provider paying for first air rights to try and get more subscribers.

>They got phased out because they couldn't keep up with the market,
Because CR beat them at it with better localization and distribution. You're literally saying "Yes you're right but I hate you so I won't admit we're saying the same thing".
>Once CR landed a distribution deal, the whole thing was over overnight.
Hey how did they land that distribution deal? They made better translations, better localizations, hired people who had been doing this for years in fansubs, and delivered a better product.
They didn't 'appear one day' and just start getting contracts because of "lol internet", they spent close to a decade building CR until they were finally mature enough to replace the big industry players.
Kind of what is happening now with localization in games, bruh. CR started because they realized people who were paid to do it suck, and literal fansubbers could do a better job than million dollar companies. At least you can admit that with Japan becoming aware of how shit the bastard localizations are, we're getting to a similar situation and just need someone to swoop in and penetrate the market. It'll happen eventually.

Distribution, yes. Localization, no. Distribution is the be-all, end-all. Doesn't matter how good a product you have, if it takes you 3 months to get DVDs on shelves and incurs a large financial risk, you're going to get absolutely raped by a company who can put up a subtitled version the day it airs. And that's what happened, all the other distributors died.

Did you take some kind of special pills to retcon the last 20 years in your head into thinking CR magically appeared and started distributing things? It started as a piracy site BECAUSE they offered a better service than companies worth millions of dollars who's only contribution was making a third-grader's understanding of Japanese and editing and re-cutting a bunch of scenes for no reason.
Kind of what is happening with games NOW. Your grand argument against games has always hinged on "THESE MILLION DOLLAR COMPANIES ARE NOT GOING AWAY SO JUST LEARN TO IVE WITH THEM OR-" Frick you, they ALL went away once, here's an example of it. We went from a very small market to a very big one pretty quickly. You honestly think CR is ever going away? It might get rebranded eventually, but nothing is going to kill it. Attempts like hidive haven't taken off.

your entire post hinges on the supposition that this is the best we'll ever get and nothing better out there exists so we should all stop voicing our displeasure with the absolute state of localization collectively.
That's moronic, they're selling me a product so I have literally every right to complain about it. The Japanese aren't going to know that I'm displeased with it unless there are enough loud people that it reaches all the way back to them, and this works. Multiple games have already been re-translated and re-localized specifically because customer complaints reached this
Take this blackpill "Surrender the entire english language" bullshit and shove it. You should be encouraging MORE people to complain.

By all means, keep screaming about localization being shit if you want. I agree with you, it's fricking awful. Entertainment is not treated as an artform, it's a business, and it's ran like a business. You can b***h and moan, maybe if you send enough e-mails some garbage will get re-translated. Guess what? There's nothing wrong with complaining, but what you should be doing is solving your own problem instead of waiting and hoping that other people do it for you.

Suppose you're an actually good translator with a command of the source and target language. You may have a master's degree in one or both languages. Now where are you going to work? Prestigous job at the UN translating for diplomats? Six-figure gig at a private firm translating legal contracts worth millions? Or will you be a fricking video game translator paid pennies per word? The actually good translators already have actually good jobs. All that's left is the failures and washouts, who are usually the ones with the agenda and the "I have something to prove (because I'm a failure)" complex that causes them to lash out against any criticism instead of accepting it and bettering themselves and their translations going forward. I mean, do you think the guy who translates conversations and contracts between the president of Nintendo of Japan and the president of Nintendo of America is getting paid the same as the guy at Treehouse who translates Fire Emblem? Do you think the two have the same command of English and Japanese?
The reason we have computers now is because of technological improvements that allowed production of PCs at scale. Smaller, cheaper, useful to the point they're worth having in your home. Companies in the 70s worked to drive manufacturing costs down and computing power up. If you want to apply that same logic to translation, then we need to improve the processes by which translation occurs to the point it is affordable to have an accurate translation. It needs to cost less to produce a translation, and that translation needs to be more accurate.

Its even more disparate in the west, media translation is absolute bottom of the barrel stuff.
I used to work at a place that did translations, among other things, for legal documents. Even the really easy languages like dutch to english or german to english pays like 300 dollars an hour for freelance. For more esoteric shit like chinese or japanese, you're literally writing your own ticket. I believe the hourly rate we were paying for chinese was around 800-900 an hour depending on who we could get at the time. But you had to be absolutely, perfectly fluent in both languages and your error rate had to be extremely low, any more than 2 errors in the same 500+ page document and you were getting replaced, and 3 people would be checking your work directly, in addition to the native speakers proofing it to make sure it made sense.
Meanwhile you watch an anime or read a manga and the error rate is like 2 per page because nobody really gives a shit.

These numbers are on the high end, but this is mostly true. The market for high-end corporate translation is very competitive (in that there are few positions), though. Freelancing is very unstable. The most surefire way to make money doing this sort of work is working for various police depts., courts, prosecutors etc. Pays really well and if you're registered in enough places you can have a constant cash flow.

Worse, but not bad. It is way more fun. >Also do they give you context for the stuff your translating like screenshots or is just a spreadsheet of one language on one side and you fill out the other side?
You get almost no context. Blizzard are very open and usually not bad in providing what you need, but I have worked with CD projekt in Witcher 3 and it was really hard to know what the frick was even the context of the scene. We didn't get anything beyond "this character is angry" or "this scene happens in a swamp". Stuff like that.

The mistake you're making is presuming that there is a cap on spend for accuracy. Which is facile, you're mistaking a niche with whole market permanence.
Look at audio, Deezer in particular which forced accuracy with autistic FLAC formats with audiophiles into the mainstream market. The demands of the high end filtered down to the mid market.

I mean, if you're planning on dropping 50k on a translation, you can probably get it as "accurate" as you want. The guy will probably sit on your lap and walk you through the game. I just figured you were spending less so you'd need to rope in a few more idiots to make up the deficit.

Okay buddy. It hasn't been achieved in the past 10,000 years of history, but I'm sure this time, with the magic of capitalism which definitely favors quality, you'll manage it.
Sometimes I wonder if I'd be happier as a useful idiot like you, but then I read a post like this and I just think, man, I'd rather be dead than dumb.
Even in Japanese it's not that redundant because multiple synonymous phrases get used. 仕方がない どうしようもない。しょうがない しゃあねえ 致し方ありません and so on. I just don't think the English language is rich enough to have equivalents.
What's the problem?
Would you translate the same phrase differently each time? If a character says it a billion times in the original, why can't he say it a billion times in the translation?
in japanese there's like 15 variations of it with different subtext and up to 30 if you include the old keigo ones which are often used on games like fire emblem or isekai and fantasy LNs because the characters are supposed to be old fashioned
this subtext is the implication of how they see it, which can go anywhere from "it can't be helped" outright, to "it's not my problem", "it is what it is isn't it? what will you do?", and even "so that's how it's gonna be huh..."
i legitimately don't know why the frick does this trip up even "professional translators" working on "real literature"
>Learn about the world during your commute (may be the channel title) >Today's keyword: "weeb" >The shocking state of Japanese anime overseas >"Everyone in Japan raise your voice" >"Japan please help us"
They're showing the video of the troonylator who outright said "No I don't know the language but you're offended because I have a vegana" or something to that extent. People called her out at a con for basically making shit up and her only response was "muh vegana" for ten minutes
Hold on a minute, so these homosexuals and trannies don't speak Japanese right? But they translate shit, most likely using AI and now the possibility of JP devs using AI themselves is actually making them shit their pants in fear and anger so they're saying AI = Bad?
Holy fricking shit, the hypocrisy. LMAO
The way it works at funimation and other moron homosexual studios is that they have a translator translate the script, and then the "localizers" go over it and "correct" it for "western audiences" (ie, homosexuals).
>localizers keep fricking up shit for over a decade >someone sends Asmongold the pic about the Dragon Maid "patriarchy" dialogue >he makes a video about it >Japanese e-celebs and vtubers see it too and make videos about it >starts to spread like a wildfire just how hard localizers frick up translations >not as in badly translated but in outright changing the artists works >for the first time there seems to be push from Japan itself against bad international translations
For once, the balding rat did something good.
>I'm sure you never complain when they gratuitously throw in slurs and cuss words for no reason.
I do, I hate cursing in localizations, theres no curse words in Japanese. てめえ being translated to "you fricking bastard" is awful
>Honestly the localization sounds way less dry and boring.
Not your job to "spice things up'
I've come to realize that when localization shitters say >breathing life and humor into dull lifeless scripts
They really mean >I can't read long lines of text without contemporary memes to hold my attention
The arrogance that is born of "it won't sell unless we change it because the Japanese are moronic when it comes to writing" is some of the most racist shit I have ever seen.
>Honestly the localization sounds way less dry and boring.
Not your job to "spice things up'
The truth of the matter is that a ton of shit translated directly from Japanese to english sounds weird and unnatural since so much nuance is quite literally lost in translation. Once dialogue in anime and video games starts to sound weird and robotic because it was quite literally translated by a robot will you understand.
Feeling "anger" overseeing the word patriarchy or whatever shoehorned into a localization would be preferable to feeling jack shit at all from reading boring ass dialogue.
It's a different culture and language, why the frick should it feel "natural" in English? Maybe add some marvel references to make it seem more natural to you cretins.

You literally said you don't want it to sound like natural English. So you want it to sound like broken or mangled English. How about you provide an example of what 'unnatural' English is supposed to read like?

I nowhere said it doesn't need to sound natural in English, not that it should be broken, you disingenuous homosexual cretin.

If it doesn't sound natural, then it's broken English. The entire chain of replies was predicated on the issue that AI translations sound unnatural because they lose nuance and don't actually represent how a human actually speaks.

You literally can't win against arguments against leftists because they will simply reduce themselves to ad hominem and reports when they lose the argument.

>Maybe add some marvel references to make it seem more natural to you cretins.
Exactly idiot, and with it being a different culture and language the execs know they need something that appeals to the western audiences, and we aren't talking about western execs, but Japanese ones. They aren't going to waste their time localization shit for us if they don't think it will do well, ffs it's been almost 20 years and we still haven't gotten an official localization for mother 3.

>Japanese ones.
Jap execs are deciding they're going with AI translation.
Enjoy unemployment.
Yeah to uncool people who don't try to watch literal subs once in a while and get their brain to comprehend "the world is bigger thsn my country and this is the way they think."
If someone told you to jump off a bridge cause it was cool would you?

The translator's target audience is someone who is completely ignorant of any Japanese culture, but is a fellow justice warrior in their polycule and understands all their insane twitter memes.
thats why you should play games in Japanese, you either get a butchered version with made up words added or you get something that doesnt read right

On an individual level, fair enough. On the level that there will always be a giant demographic who will settle for English, you end up discounting their unfortunate experience.
The fricked up thing about this “japanese is too dry” meme is that it’s perpetuated from an era where MTL was somehow worse than it is today, and just like today even the best “official” translations were either glorified edited MTL or N6 trash.
It’s a literal anti-japan campaign that has gone on for over 2 decades.
Japanese does have limited adjectives though. Theres only two ways to say something tastes good, excluding any slurring of the word. Its pretty bland overall as a language. Thats why every medieval Japanese game is written in modern Japanese but localized with a proper medieval dialect
>It’s a literal anti-japan campaign that has gone on for over 2 decades.
Shame that this is true.
Just look at translators openly gloating about mistranslating on resetera and twitter to own the "problematic Japanese culture" and "japan obsessed alt-right nazis".
This is the world we're living in. And if you complain about mistranslation you get swarmed with the typical NPC reactions like >literal translations dont work >localization does not equal translations >etc.
even though you never asked for a "literal" translations.
And I don't even know what the issue is. All that people want is no more shit like replacing normal text with pop-culture jokes and references or sex jokes(NISA and Xseed I'm looking at you), rewriting text for the fun of it(SEGA and 8-4), or simply omitting entire conversations and replacing them with whatever(Nintendo).
Most horrible example is probably Xenoblade 2, which has a running gag of Tora being a little perv, building "extra" features into Poppi. An entire joke has been replaced with "bark bark" as a dogwhistle and nod to Twitter mysoginy watchdog accounts.
I forgot to add: a buddy of mine is pretty far into learning Japanese right now and just the other day he's been seething about trannies fricking with dictionaries now?
Never heard that before but he showed me some discord pics and before/after comparisons of online dictionaries and jesus christ... literally changing whatever they want under the "words change" nonsense umbrella

Yeah, people are exposing this too. Japanese dictionaries for help with translation were changed. They are trying to pull the ladder up behind them so that even if you "learn" japanese, you'll be indoctrinated into the newspeak. >Learn Japanese >Become a translator >people complain that your translations are bad >decide that the trannies were right and become an 'ally'
It's fricking insidious.
With the context the dub translation is almost funny, it highlights that anyone complaining about the way she looks is likely two faced and will also want her to go back to normal if she changes any. Tohru goes from saying something mean to saying something completely different, which could add up to her acting different if this happens often.
>The Age of the localizer is over. The Time of the AI has come.
Based. AI won!

>With the context the dub translation is almost funny, it highlights that anyone complaining about the way she looks is likely two faced and will also want her to go back to normal if she changes any
It's kinda funny and anti-woke too.
AI translation will only be beneficial if japanese cut the overseas localizer middleman off also. otherwise it will be the troonylators using AI to translate and nothing changes. basically AI translation needs to become so good that you can just input text and get perfect translation out. if that isnt possible then you will always need an english proofreader to fix the script.
If we would have to draw parallels to art, current troonyslators are akin to those horrible old Tumblr drawings where every fictional character gets turned into a fat Black person with body hair all over. I'd absolutely take AI slop over that.
>be obnoxious unlikable homosexuals for decades, actively shitting on anyone who criticized them >only tolerated because there's no alternative >the moment an alternative becomes viable everyone turns on them
you reap what you sow
I would say they're close to being equivalent. Most of the same people responsible shift all around entertainment, they aren't specifically a game localizer or an anime localizer.
In terms of quality, Anime used to be way, way worse but got its shit kicked in by piracy so has improved quite a bit (and then got worse again, recent years has been abysmal). Game translations have always been bad.
Look at the STALKER translation.
The bandits always say "bratishka" which is a dimunitive form of "brat (brother)" so the translation just has them constantly say "bro" this and "bro" that. But the connotation is completely different, "bro" is far more casual in English than the variants used in Russian, it makes bandits and freedomers seems like fricking surfer boys and kills my immersion completely.
I'll be honest I don't actually know the best way to translate it, I think about it a lot.
Just using the original Russian word for "brother" in those contexts would be weird if the rest of the speech is completely in English. Trying to figure out a better word that fits more contextually is harder because at the end of the day, they're still saying a variant of "brother". Thread dead so I can't muse on it any longer.
I was really just wondering if we would get lucky and with the Ukraine conflict, the devs would just decide to do a Ukranian only dub for some nice media coverage, but no such luck.
Sucks for the guys who actually did their job and translated shit properly without adding memes or their political bias. Then again, if you don't do shit to protect your job and cuck out to bad faith actors you also deserve whatever fate they get.
Why do I get the feeling that these threads are less about videogames and videogame translations, and more about culture war bullshit?
Not even the hate appears to be coming from a place of someone actually wanting videogames in English.
It's kinda hard to ignore when one of the main reasons why translations tend to be so fricking horrible is "culture war bullshit" in one way or another. Yes, if someone does a shitty job and saying "muh vegana" is enough to deflect all criticism, it's a core issue.
Sure. But the reason for the discussion should still be videogames.
Meanwhile there are several, frequent people in these posts who have self professed to not even liking videogames anymore, have no interest in English translations. And just wish to see everything burn. That's not even Ganker related at that point.
Nobody cares unless something gets censored. These people blaming "leftists" are on crack, because swimsuits in Japanese games were banned by the Japanese government. The problems now start at the source.
>Nobody cares unless something gets censored
That's not the case at all and it's hard to imagine anyone sincerely things this and is making a good faith argument.
Because you've been gaslit into thinking anything that takes even a minor amount of power away from twittertards is "Culture war bullshit" so you can dismiss it in your brain with qualifiers like "Yeah but you don't dislike it for reasons I, personally, feel are valid"
Because you're 100% right.
OP hasn't ever been this bad before. He typically restricted it to one thread a day, always around the same timeframe.
After I blew him the frick out for spamming the same threads for over five years, he really went into overdrive and started making them at all hours of the day now.
If you are not a weeb and actually consume all east asian media, you will at some point realize there is no way to translate all the things you like into english anytime soon (especially those 2k+ chapters wuxia novels)
AI translator is the only way
I'll do you one better. If you can't distinguish between the two, why do you care? Mind your own business.
Because you've been gaslit into thinking anything that takes even a minor amount of power away from twittertards is "Culture war bullshit" so you can dismiss it in your brain with qualifiers like "Yeah but you don't dislike it for reasons I, personally, feel are valid"
Oh shoot. Shots fired. Stop he'd already dead.
If you are not a weeb and actually consume all east asian media, you will at some point realize there is no way to translate all the things you like into english anytime soon (especially those 2k+ chapters wuxia novels)
AI translator is the only way
There's a difference between >can't be done/achieved
and >hasn't been done/attempted
Language is constantly evolving and there's no such thing as sacrosanct in translation work. 100% literal is possible and always will be the goal. If our more renown authors of the past would have had their way it would probably be past tense. You vastly overestimate how many people in generations prior to us used to be literate.
But OP doesn't care about the quality of translations. He has admitted to that several times across all these threads. He just wants to see the people he hate suffer.
>Robots start taking over factories, plantations, blue collar jobs and wagies >"Heh, that's just progress, should've studdied more and gotten a real job" >Robots and AI can now code, create images, create essays in seconds, replicate voices, translate in real time >Only will get better in the future >"NOOOOOOOOOOOO HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?!?!?!?"
>Robots and AI can now code, create images, create essays in seconds, replicate voices, translate in real time
And none of it is good. This board is 18+ btw.
>Only will get better in the future
Maybe, but likely what we have now is near the peak of the underlying technology. Keep in mind that "AI" is all based on theory from 50 years ago that we're just now able to implement thanks to the technology finally catching up to the idea.
"AI" as it exists today has an inherent permanence problem that seems unlikely to be solved unless we can figure out a way to increase hardware power by like 10,000x.
Someone will have to invent something new, and in the past 50 years nobody has been able to.
But shit like translating 5 lines of dialogue for a scene, or drawing an image, yeah, that will likely get more accurate since its just tweaks to the model.
This is true, the idea is that Japanese companies can do editing in-house thanks to the fact that the AI would give them a direct translation of their work. Realistically hiring an editor is easier than hiring a loocalizer
Large language models are really good at associating words. I wouldn't be surprised if some could manage to automatically add a note explaining the joke if asked to translate that.
And the problem would exist forever.
Because even if I play my games in Japanese, I buy them on Steam. The standard versions available in my country, that is ones with all languages, including English.
This means even though I don't play Japanese games in English, I do pay the translators. And I can't even complain, because I have no idea how good those translations are.
These company's must sign contract's when they hire the localizers i do wonder if there is anything that means the japanese studio's could sue for breech of contract and lost earning due to sabotaging the translation, There are so many twitter cap's that it would be a slam dunk case.
They can't. Because a localizer is hired to "make the script more appealing to the western audience" which in legal terms basically means you can do anything you want. These companies knew that the frickwits in charge don't even know japanese.
oh noooo, the homosexuals that mistranslate shit on purpose to insert american fotm memes into japanese games... how will we survive without an outdated among us sus reference in our horror dating VN
The japs have already build a jap -> english translation model for legal documents, which are much more important to translate correctly. And theyve said theyre going to start using this to translate media too. So as soon as the first one rolls off the line, we've already won.
The clock is ticking, you dumb homosexual.
>So as soon as the first one rolls off the line, we've already won.
the magus bride translation already exists and mantra inc is already setting up shop
and amusingly enough it was a translation being praised for it's accuracy despite being a fairly complex manga
Isnt magus bride just using the existing stuff, and not the new hitachi model? The hitachi model is supposed to be extremely accurate, in that theyre confident enough to use it to translate their legal code to english and publish it for foreigners.
For better or worse is the yakuza rumors are true, the top priority is a massive sweep of westoids in actually important infrastructure and law firms by april and the sweep in media will come later, so you will have to wait.
The current shitshow is probably manufactured outrage to distract the westoids while the great replacement somewhere else takes effect.
Over 2 billion people know kanji, its literally the easiest thing on the planet when you think about it. More people know kanji than speak english. You speak english
chinese use 10x as much kanji instead which makes it even harder. And also readings literally dont matter if you arent trying to read things outloud. You can understand words and not know their reading. You can understand 緑髪 but the reading for it is fricking moronic
IIRC in a ranking on the difficulty of learning languages meant for US ambassadors, Japan is in the most difficulty category, and has a special footnote explaining that it is way harder than any other language in the same category.
I still recommend learning it though. Its not that hard if you learn it through stuff you enjoy.
English is the most important language on the planet. This isn't an opinion. This is a fact.
If English wasn't so important, you wouldn't be on an English-speaking website in the first place.
No one cares about Chinese (and adjacent) languages unless you're directly dealing with the Chinese.
It's actually pretty easy to start, but you'll hit a wall once you start trying to learn the multiple meanings and pronunciations of kanji. The only way thru is practice and reading everything with a dictionary in hand. what vns are you trying to read?
You search by radicals.
The more you search by radicals, the more you assimilate the radicals by osmosis, which makes future searches that much faster.
Just keep at it, you're literaly moronic, as in you're not dumber than me you just started later.
LNs, not VNs anon but I'll probably end up reading VNs anyways
Ishura/異修羅 is the one I'm most invested in right now, far from being NEVER EVER tier since it has an ongoing official TL. Picked it up around November but the offical tl is way behind.
There are less than 1 million non-native Japanese people who are fluent in Japanese. “Officially” it’s less than 300k but I’m sure there’s a few weeks not counted in those statistics.
I speak 4 languages, I'm trying to learn Jap, but it's hard since the knowledge of other languages doesn't help much with this one, since it's too different
This could have been avoided if these localizers didn't try to insert topical memes or political shit they absorbed from twitter into game text
The most frustrating part is that whenever people try to call them out on it they just say they're adapting it to english which is not at all what they're doing.
when did they change names to 5ch? is it so people stop getting their name mixed up with the other site I also cant remember? futaba?
different management, it's a whole long story.
anyway here's a thread: it's decently fast and populated too: https://nova.5ch.net/test/read.cgi/livegalileo/1704621210
The japs are definitely talking about it. Protip: use something like Siki browser to read 5ch, it's what almost every jap does
Reminder, no one in no other form of entertainment will tell you to learn other language to enjoy something. This only happens here thanks to localizators' wienersuckers.
>no one in no other form of entertainment will tell you to learn other language to enjoy something.
Because you don't read any French poetry to begin with. If you were interested in any other foreign media, everybody would be telling you to learn the language.
Sure, it's the same situation as with vidya devs. If you're talented, why would you bother making vidya under absolutely shitty conditions when you can be making a lot more money doing less work in other fields? You'd have to be moronic to do it.
its called models, at some point AI's will be able to model Japanese brains and will be able to perfectly understand context, its already good enough for Japanese companies to switch over
understanding japanese context isnt enough, you need it to be able to adapt suitable meanings / replacements for english to make it work. and that isnt an easy task even for a native that knows english.
thats the beauty of AI though, it gets smarter the more you feed it. At some point it will understand Japanese and English better than native bilingual speakers. Just gotta wait
you take games with good localizations and feed it into the model. Lets not pretend old translations werent perfectly fine, its only after 2008 did shit go wrong

Ok guys help me out of dekinai. Where do I read stuff with FURIGANA on? I do understand most of nip if I hear it. Problem is reading kanji. Memorizing kanji is utterly moronic over seeing that shit over time USED IN THE CORRECT FRICKING CONTEXT. But only a few comics use furigana. Or do they? I haven't actually looked at comic raws that much. Sometimes you see furigana. What determines if there's furigana? Certain magazine? Certain genre (shonen, for kids)?
That is what Ganker has become. Every fricking board is now completely backwards, brainwashing every fricking moron into being against their best interest.
C'mon Anon, Ganker has always been /b/ 2.0. Stop talking about videogames. Anime has no place on Ganker. I would nuke practically every thread if I was a mod.
>Maybe if we pester people who famously fricking despise being told what to do by foreigners to change these tropes they've kept untouched since at least the 70s if not longer, they'll finally give in!
No one who actually spent more than a few months in Japan would believe this, it's a larp. Or someone so incredibly detached from reality they can't see it in front of their face every day, which wouldn't surprise me.
I know this is an old picture but I still wonder if those type of people use the words and phrases like "well um" and "icky" in all sincerity despite it making most people feel like punching them in the face for it.
No. That form of vernacular is very common in that website. He and many from there talk like that. It's their equivalent of calling people a homosexual.
I bet everyone learning japanese in here can read this, just take the plunge already, stop mining cards in anki and looking for furigana ON. You are smarter than you think.

you gotta be an entitled american to not understand how stupid this whole loop is lol
video game translators arent professional translators. that's like saying "if you dont like your mcdonalds being spit on then why dont you become head chef of a Michelin star restaurant?" i just want the moronic wagie fryer boy not to spit on my burger
smart people who become professional translators work for banks and make 6 figures instead. If you want to do bottom barrel video game translation you get paid minimum wage or someone in SEA will do it for them
80s the engrish beginnings
Early/mid 90s the woolsey years
Late 90s and 00s the great divide-translations for some, localization for morons
Current era the dark ages
westoids are getting increasingly desperate to make people stop talking about this topic now that the fricking moron that did the dragon maid troonlation picked a fight with asmongold and is bringing up a lot of bad shit to light in front of japan in the process
The funniest part is that they are STILL trying to pretend the problem doesn't exist and caring about their maliciousness. All they have left to attack others with is to scream at them to not believe their lying eyes.
the desperation reeks
the sooner you accept you fricking lost the higher your chances of getting a job before ending homeless
not like i care either way, but you should thank your savior for putting you and your grifter friends in this situation
Not even right wing but no it's not. Do you really think the only alternatives are either 100% literal or original vision being altered with topical memes and politics?
Because being disingenuous is the only way they can continue this debate. Addressing actual points blows them the frick out, so they need to punch on their strawmen.
troons: >ugh this is like such a big deal how can they just put a healthy heterosexual relationship between two attractive characters in this game. i HAVE to put a stop to this its literal murder and slavery against trans folx!
also troons: >its just like not a big deal why do you care
Mid 2000’s translation was peak. Translation quality while still rough had improved significantly from the 90’s and there were no gays or troonylators trying to push their agenda into the translations.
isnt that really the core issue? even old translations were sovlful but everything now is just agenda translation. I had to stop playing Baten Kaitos HD because some fricking moron actually added a character saying "yikes" to something "misogynistic"
Connection in that uniligual bros like you are kneejerk reactionary rascist and so have to make everything political in order to compensate for the intellectual meltdown going on within you? Yeah sure.
International subsidiaries having different approaches is veering away from the topic of "waaaaah, sub vs dub and video game weebs hurt my fee-fees!"
What's more that's just one Zelda from 10 years ago. If we're gonna go anecdote by anecdote, the newer games don't even multiple English options because NOA does that one. You're gonna have a hard time fighting whatever hill you're making on Nintendo's own terf.
I'm so fricking glad this c**t wasn't able to get her fat fingers on Reload's script. Now that Funimation and Sega fired her, I hope we never hear from her again. Stupid c**t should've done her job properly.
>I put SO much effort in
No, no you didn't. How many more times do we have to get people coming out and saying that they barely know Japanese and just change lines willy nilly because they were told the context or they just MTL the fricking shit. >The Devs changed it, I'm not responsible
Yes, you are. How many more times do we have to get devs saying that they had their English localization team come in house and tell them what would and wouldn't be considered "appropriate" overseas. Gaslighting is violence and the fact that you do so every day means you are a horrible person.
>AI translation when?
If it gets AI translated then it'll be unreadable forever unless some autistic soul decides to fan translate it in spite of the MTL. We've seen this time and time again by now.
No you moronic libshit, normal Japanese people seeing other normal Japanese people, they don't care for DEI shit unless it's a Japanese-speaking troony pushing it onto their corporate heads.
The funniest thing about the morons pushing AIslop translations is that people praise it's accuracy despite somehow being third-world tier in terms of both Japanese and English language skills.
Still better than localizers.
And while AI is capable of learning and improving, the only thing localizers will continue to do is alienate the fanbase by inserting identity politics.
AI is only capable of learning and improving because it's absorbed the majority of the internet into its learning models and stolen information. It is a tool being used by a highly wealthy corporation so that they can monopolize information.
>It is a tool being used by a highly wealthy corporation so that they can monopolize information
You mean the same corporation making anime/manga?
Do you not realize the AI being used to replace localizers is made by a Japanese company and being pushed by a Japanese ex-mangaka politician?
all this "just learn japanese" spam ignores the obvious fact you can both already know japanese and still advocate for the mass replacement of westoids by AI
this, but I also want to add how moronic it is for these homosexual vandalisers to tell these heckin' chud haters to learn Japanese. I mean that would also put you out of a job because if enough of them did that then they'd either replace you at your job or you'd become obsolete entirely because they wouldn't even need to financially support the western releases for these products. Complete fricking morons with zero self awareness.
This goes beyond Video games, if anything, games and anime being butchered, they were just the final nail in the coffin. People have been fed up with culture war bullshit and want to enjoy media, even abroad they cannot have that because of troonslators. Nobody wants culture war shit, we want to get AWAY from it and the political shit shoved into media or media being butchered. We wanted to ignore politics, but it chose to follow us. That is the problem here.
the problem is everytime one moron screeches about "DUH TRANEEEZ ROOINING ANIMAY" 3 more localizers insert a meme reference into a translation specifically to piss them off. both sides need to keep their culture war autism out of it.
Yeah it's /misc/'s fault that these nepo hire frauds are attacking nerd stuff that they hate. Yeah. It's totally to own the chuds, and not because they're talentless hacks.
He's quite literally saying you're both equally fricking stupid, although I'd argue /misc/tards are more whiny than terminally online leftists because you fricks are more fearful and offended by pointless shit by nature.
they literally admit it on their twitter moron. every time some 300 pound frick goes FOOKIN PROWNAAAWNS they laugh and do it more to provoke another reaction.

Uh huh. So the "just ignore it and it goes away" tactic? Even though these morons started it by messing with the translations in the first place? >No it's YOUR fault for pointing out what they're doing! Stop noticing their behavior and they'll magically stop somehow!
You're victim blaming anon. Progressives making mistranslations is an attack on the material and the audience. Saying that the people being attacked should just shut up is akin to rape apologia.
Here's the thing, people complaining about troons don't work on this industry and don't have a say on the products, but are the target audience.
Meanwhile westoids keep butchering media on purpose for their "own".
All the blame lies on the westoid lolcowlizers in this scenario, and there's no real way to play "le both sides".
if the industry just had good translators without a political agenda we wouldnt have any of these issues right? The fact that we need to invent new technology to counteract something so simple seems like a joke
>ignore it and we wont get dunked on and thrown out! thanks!
lol
lmao
how is getting fired real homie just put your fingers in your ears
homie just walk away from the pink slip
Fricker, older writers write stuff from their time. Are you pretending I can't go into a library right now and find some pretty sexist shit? Don't include your opinion when it comes to your damn job.
It means she hates white heterosexual men, think they run the world (LOL) and wants to tear them down and put a crippled, autistic, bigender, lesbian Black person with PTSD in charge of everything.
>Intersectional Feminist >Endometriosis
Now here is the bigger question, does she have Endo as punishment for being an Intersectional Feminist or is she a Feminist because she has a reproductive disorder? (For those who do not know, Endometriosis is where the reproductive tract has growths on it, making childbearing nearly impossible)
>that English fluency
reminder that 帰国子女 and their opinions don't represent actual Japanese people. Japanese media exist within the context of Japanese culture, not globohomosexual culture
>once in a blue moon
If only. I wish it were that fricking minor. They brag openly about how much they shove their ideological garbage into things, and "It's to own the le chuds" is not the excuse for it. Specifically when they also point out that they do it because they think Japan is "sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc" or the material was written by "old japanese men."
tsk. Another dirty EOP thread. Literal translations suck, you know. Translators take liberties all the time. Just lean japanese bro. If you care so much, why don't you become a translator yourself, huh? I thought so.
Why did people allow them to just claim and hide behind the term localization?
Everytime someone calls them out for being terrible at their job they just go >tehee, it's a good localization though!
Which isn't even true. But people just gave them that word unopposed for some reason.
Not all localization is translation work, but all translation work is localization. And if your translation is shit then your localization is shit too.
Don't separate these terms. If you're a shit translator then you are a shit localizer.
Is this really about them being "'terrible" at their job though?
The main concern seems to be that these localizers are petty and purposefully insert their politics into the localizations, nobody seems to give a frick about them throwing in random slurs or curse words, at least not to the same extent as then. And then the chudcels being 10x pettier are cheering on their loss of livelihood for these perceived transgressions.
>The main concern seems to be that these localizers are petty and purposefully insert their politics into the localizations >Is this really about them being "'terrible" at their job though?
I don't fricking know anon, does this not sound like a terrible translation job to you? Almost every thread of this sort has examples that do not have anything to do with politics, like whatever the frick Nintendo tends to do with FE, NISA shit, whatever else you want, but you tend to focus on the c**ts who do it out of spite as if they are the only issue here. No, they are not the sole problem, they are a subset of the whole "terrible translation/localization" issue and deserve to be called out as well.
And where are these examples? the non-political ones that is because pretty much everyone in this thread seems more peeved about that than anything.
The bottom line is a.i taking over jobs is much much bigger than this dramatrain and people aren't going to realize how big until it's their job that a.i comes for next.
This b***h has likely never touched a video game ever. All of my impressions are that they look down on it a lot and just want an outlet to push their shit.
They saw the males they rejected from social interaction off having fun by themselves. You see that's the problem. Those rejected men were supposed to kill themselves, not discover the Enkidu Gambit. That's why they want to destroy all these niche nerd hobbies. It's because if they decide you're not okay, then you must die.
This is them doing their job "correctly." Their job is to destroy everything you love because you're a cis-het white male capitalist chud colonizer racist transphobe misogynist.
As stupid as the inorganic "nya, nya" stuff is. It is a legitimate onomatopoeia attributed to cats. That's why if we accept this premise, expecting cats to sound like cats, makes inherent sense.
But what excuse is there for a every cat person to become some kind of word play pun maestro? Nothing about cats suggest word plays.
This is what they mean when they say shit like. >Translation is HARD, I do so much work
What they really mean, 100% of the time, is that they hated the original idea of the conversation and thought it was "boring". So they made more work for themselves, for no reason and then thought they were so amazing for doing some basic word play so they could avoid being "basic" with a cat accent. I would just have her say Meow every so often and probably less than she says Nya in the Japanese, which if I had to guess, is at the end of every sentence.
>live in Japan for 7 years >never study >can understand N2 Japanese
You'll get there.
Dont worry so much about kanji, its hard for Japanese people too.
my favorite thing is when I ask Japanese people about a certain word I learned in a game and they have no fricking idea what it means either. Its a different language set really. Like talking to your parents about JRPG
I have seen autismos that only need 6 months to reach N3.
It's genuinely not that difficult, westoids love to mislead you by making you believe you need to learn ALL kanji before you even start reading, but in reality you will learn kanji passively as words through reading without even needing anki.
The real pain in the ass is always keigo and yakuwarigo, but from what I have seen in these translations, westoids don't even know that exists, so there's that.
you literally never need to use keigo unless you live in Japan anyway. And you can understand it super easy if you're just reading it since its just japanese but twice as long
Hes not wrong.
Keigo is only used in formal settings.

If you can hold a conversation in Japanese, then you're OK.
>people think i'm a moron >and so i act like a moron >i don't like to disappoint
Japanese people do it any foreigner that speaks Japanese, no matter their level. They don't wanna be rude.
>Censorship has a negative connotation in this moment, switch to nuspeak alternative.
These people would make Big Brother shit himself for fear of being made a thought criminal. These people make the Inner Party look like Goldstein collaborators.
It comes down to the audience and the level of institutional control they have. If they control the institutions they will gleefully attack creators and the audience. If they don't have control they will simply ignore its existence until there's a critical mass of them that have infiltrated the industry. Rarely they will try to brute force their way in using attack articles and shaming tactics.
>xe thinks fighting against chuds on Ganker have any impact >while the one making the most impact in this whole drama only read his own subreddit for the whole situation
Go post on /r/Asmongold troonylators
Half the people in this thread taking the "pro-chud" position are just doing it out of contrarian spite or to troll. Trying to get serious debate on Ganker is hilarious but they still try!
I wonder if he spent as much time being a fair and openminded person as he did running mental gymnastics over his own arrogance and incompetence would he escape reincarnation?
It doesn't teach about Japanese culture, it just IS Japanese culture. You're going through the effort of removing that by pretending you're somehow doing a great service to the original by cutting out all the "Japaneseness" out of it.
The Japanese media they claim to love still embarrasses them, so they water it down to the point where people who have no business consuming it start doing so in droves.
Seeing Japanese media gatekeep itself is their greatest fear.
>Seeing Japanese media gatekeep itself is their greatest fear.
Which is also why they spend monumental amounts of effort lying directly to the faces of japanese executives, as proved by PSO2.
>Dont put shit like senpai or honorifics in a translation
but you need them or else you get really awkward scenes like >you forgot to add -san my name
and a nonsensical english translation
It's not rocket science. Look at what it says, and write it out that way to the best you can. We need no additional input. If you don't do that, well you're in the wrong job.
the westoids working on anti-japan censorship publishing (localizations) are failed writers
mind you this means they couldn't make it when the competition is shit like this
accurate non trash translations
I do want this. But AI can't give me this. At least not now and who knows when it will be able to.
If it could there would genuinely be no problem. But if AI can't give me what I want then I won't support it. At least not until it is actually capable of it.
I just don't want every translation to be AI because AI isn't good enough.
It's already piss easy to MTL games. If MTLs were actually good enough I would just play all the games I wanted to play instead of praying for proper translations.
I am annoyed by people pretending like MTLs are good. And I honestly doubt they even believe that. At least I doubt they've played any actual MTLs.
I just want AI to get to a point where it can be used in an overlay and translate shit on the fly. Since models can be made and distributed publicly then non-pozzed models will be made.
>I just want AI to get to a point where it can be used in an overlay and translate shit on the fly.
We have that already. There multiple different tools for that kind of thing. Go ask /vn/ on /vg/ or something.
It's the quality that's lacking. Not the surrounding software.
good news if true
If this is a japanese vidoe by a japanese person for a japanese audience then good. But if you go to that video and half the comments are in english with someone going "goof on you for calling out wokegays" then its a nothungburger.
How do localizers affect you?
They literally ruin everything I love
>love
You must not love it very much if you have to consume it through the eyes of a third party.
if you cared you would learn Japanese, English translation is awful for Japanese regardless
How do you translate "shikatanai"?
guy's gotta do what guy's gotta do
Depending on the context
>It can't be helped.
>It's inevitable
>Nothing we can do about it
>It's out of our hands
>It's beyond our control
>No way around it, I guess...
>We have to deal with it
>It's unavoidable.
etc.
you don't know japanese. translate this
迷っても仕方が無い
Not the anon but
No use worrying about it?
Yes, "No use wavering. (Gotta start somewhere)"
Now this
うるさくて仕方がない
Want to focus but it's too noisy
no
You can't translate that as "it's inevitable even if we get lost". It makes zero fricking sense. It has to be "It can't be helped". What this sentence is saying is that you may get lost, but oh well, there isn't shit you can do about it.
Maybe rephrase it as, "We may get lost, but there's no other choice."
>, "We may get lost, but there's no other choice."
which no english speaking person would ever say
you don't understand what the meaning of the sentence.
has to be bait
self own
*slaps own cheeks* SNAP OUT OF IT
how is this not any different from making stuff up that translators already do? you should be translating what it says
All these mean the same thing, esl. It depends on the context.
so its okay to translate itadakimasu as a rub a dub grub?
No because you're making the character speak like a moron.
Which part of "context" you don't get, dumbfrick?
he doesn't even know how to use that properly. so no point in asking him about shit.
>It can't be helped.
It can't be helped.
>It's inevitable
It can't be helped.
>Nothing we can do about it
It can't be helped.
>It's out of our hands
It can't be helped.
>It's beyond our control
It can't be helped.
>No way around it, I guess...
It can't be helped.
>We have to deal with it
It can't be helped.
>It's unavoidable.
It can't be helped.
Icky ant be helped.
>Making shit up
Cool story troonylator
Trick question, 100% depends on context.
Not every 仕方がない is equal in an "it" can't be helped way. Not only must you be aware of how it is being used and that it can be used in more than 1 way, you must still be adept at rendering it in English that suits each individual scenario it appears in.
Theres nothing we can do about it
You're hopeless, but I guess that, too can't be helped. I can't wait for the day you learn Japanese.
>I can't wait for the day you learn Japanese.
I can't do anything about that
>rendering
troony. Just translate it directly.
Bad example of context.
The other two definitions are used as a phrase modifying a now or after a verb in the te form as part of a specific construction.
Just have them say "shikatanai"
It is what it is
My main motivation to learn Japanese is to properly enjoy Japanese audio porn.
>properly enjoy Japanese audio porn.
Why?
Because understanding half of the dirty talk isn't going to cut it. Listening to relentless moaning and ohoge voices while they are squirting an en entire lake is great and all, but also fully understanding their musings makes it even better.
Being able to read untranslated media is also neat I suppose.
nice
>P-purely economics
wow haven't heard that before
>If good translations made economical sense, we'd have them already.
>We have a case study of what happens when you put a little effort into localization: Crunchyroll
>4kids
Who licensed a few shows for children, a completely different market to late night anime. If you had said ADV or Viz at least, I could've agreed with you. But oh, wait, nobody really gives that much of a shit about the garbage jobs they did, so you have to go right for the low hanging fruit to try and argue your moronic point.
CR did well because they were the first guys to do digital distribution. That's it. Nothing to do with the quality.
>Who licensed a few shows for children,
They licensed literally the biggest animes to ever be released here. Kek, who the frick are you fooling?
Oh yeah Pokemon and One Piece, just some random kids shows, all anime is for kids anyway, right?
CR ate their lunch because even a little effort was better than no effort at all. So we got something better. Eventually something will come along that replaces CR. This is how iterative progress works and your whole mantra is just "STOP TRYING TO IMPROVE THINGS" and other various tilts at windmills
>CR ate their lunch
>when Funimation bought Crunchy Roll and Sony ate them all to become a monopoly on anime dubs/subs
do you have an argument against them anymore? They were brought up as an example of why things will change with Games eventually and now you're arguing that CR is bad. Something will replace CR eventually, too. This is iterative
Nobody but you ever said Crunchy was good and now Sony with their agendas controls everything here so it doesn't even matter now anyway.
>Who licensed a few shows for children, a completely different market to late night anime. If you had said ADV or Viz at least, I could've agreed with you. But oh, wait, nobody really gives that much of a shit about the garbage jobs they did, so you have to go right for the low hanging fruit to try and argue your moronic point.
nta but you're a moron who just made his point for him. all of those studios suck, and all of them are getting gradually phased out. they only got phased out because people complained about how shit of a job they were doing.
>they only got phased out because people complained about how shit of a job they were doing.
>Because CR beat them at it with better localization and distribution.
And that's what happened, all the other distributors died.
>they spent close to a decade building CR
It was literally a piracy site, you fricking moron.
>Distribution, yes. Localization, no
Kek, we found 'em boys, the one person left alive who thinks 4kids, viz, and adv were doing better localization jobs than CR when most of their changes was shit like 'Replace these guns with finger-guns'
>4kids
Again, you have to lump them in to try and make a moronic point. CR made garbage. They still make garbage. All the other companies also made garbage. They don't really make garbage anymore, because they ran out of money.
>AAAIIEEEE CR SUCKS I LOVE SHITTY LOOOCALIZERS RE-CUTTING MY ANIME
>They're all the same, right? CR was basically the same as adv deleting entire episodes, aren't they?
lolllllllllll
CR literally saved localization. For us, who don't care about localization because we watch fansubs, that didn't affect us at all. But if you're an ESL who refuses to watch subs and refuses to pirate anime, they were a godsend, and what I just described was the majority of anime viewers at the time.
You keep saying 4kids doesn't matter but they were distributing literally the most popular shows in some countries, and they were terrible at it.
only reason CR succeeded was because they shat out bad subs faster than fansubbers.
>refuses to watch subs and refuses to pirate anime
Who cares about such creatures?
>Uhh, all of it was distribution!!!!!! CR magically sprung out of the ground one day and started distributing on the internet there was no better advantage for localizations
But you can't admit I'm right so you're backflipping exceptions to why CR sucks now and not why they're the best thing we had at the time.
>not why they're the best thing we had at the time.
Holy frick, what a revisionist. Literally everyone was shitting on CR after the deal.
>It started as a piracy site BECAUSE they offered a better service
Yeah, giving away other people's property for free and raking in ad money is a better service for the consumer.
>Frick you, they ALL went away once,
We went from a very small market to a very big one pretty quickly. You honestly think CR is ever going away? It might get rebranded eventually, but nothing is going to kill it. Attempts like hidive haven't taken off.
CR took something that was alright, the fansub community, and made it shittier but a bit faster. I really couldn't give a shit about your experience as a third worlder who needed to "legally" purchase things from fricking redistributors like a clown.
your entire post hinges on the supposition that this is the best we'll ever get and nothing better out there exists so we should all stop voicing our displeasure with the absolute state of localization collectively.
You should be encouraging MORE people to complain.
>your entire post hinges on the supposition that this is the best we'll ever get and nothing better out there exists
I've read a lot of translations. They all suck ass.
By all means, keep screaming about localization being shit if you want. I agree with you, it's fricking awful. Entertainment is not treated as an artform, it's a business, and it's ran like a business. You can b***h and moan, maybe if you send enough e-mails some garbage will get re-translated. Guess what? The re-translation is still going to be fricking garbage.
There's nothing wrong with complaining, but what you should be doing is solving your own problem instead of waiting and hoping that other people do it for you.
>To complain, sure.
the person I replied to has spent close to an hour now arguing that nobody should complain because if it's such a big deal you should just learn Japanese because it's never changing due to market forces
you should be encouraging people to complain, so things change. this defeatist 'stop complaining this is the best we'll get' shit is for morons.
>so things change
Things will not change.
Okay, maybe they will eventually, but at the point we have AGI in every home, you're probably not going to be very interested in playing Final Fantasy to begin with. You'll be too busy with "generative content".
>things won't change except when they do
wow, that's kind of why i'm saying people should complain about it to accelerate change
Complaining about translation work isn't going to accelerate AGI research. That's like saying buying ice cream is going to bankrupt Apple.
AGI ends entertainment as you know it.
To complain, sure. To ask for AI translated games, no. You are literally trying to get a worse product and companies are going to be more than happy to oblige. You are still going to get all that woke shit, but the companies are going to save money. AI translations are 100% shit btw.
Purely AI translated would be garbage for sure, but AI + japanese guy that barely knows english will deliver a better result than san francisco hipsters for sure.
>We have a case study of what happens when you put a little effort into localization: Crunchyroll
yes that's why on nyaa the CR ripped subs were labled with [HorribleSubs]
I am a translator. I work with legal and medical documents, but I also like to dabble in the world of videogames from time to time (when Blizzard sends me shit). Translation work is very open in general. You can end up doing a lot of different things at the same time.
How's the pay on games vs the other stuff?
Also do they give you context for the stuff your translating like screenshots or is just a spreadsheet of one language on one side and you fill out the other side?
Not that anon but i've seen pic related
Meanwhile you watch an anime or read a manga and the error rate is like 2 per page because nobody really gives a shit.
>chinese japanese pay gangbusters
Well well thats good to know
> The market for high-end corporate translation is very competitive (in that there are few positions), though. Freelancing is very unstable.
Ah that explains a lot
These numbers are on the high end, but this is mostly true. The market for high-end corporate translation is very competitive (in that there are few positions), though. Freelancing is very unstable. The most surefire way to make money doing this sort of work is working for various police depts., courts, prosecutors etc. Pays really well and if you're registered in enough places you can have a constant cash flow.
>How's the pay on games vs the other stuff?
Worse, but not bad. It is way more fun.
>Also do they give you context for the stuff your translating like screenshots or is just a spreadsheet of one language on one side and you fill out the other side?
You get almost no context. Blizzard are very open and usually not bad in providing what you need, but I have worked with CD projekt in Witcher 3 and it was really hard to know what the frick was even the context of the scene. We didn't get anything beyond "this character is angry" or "this scene happens in a swamp". Stuff like that.
Whats wrong with it' can't be helped?
Maybe if schools taught better languages asides French, then we wouldn't be in this predicament in the first place.
You fricking mug, don't tell me what I need to do when I'm spending my fricking money you fricking nonce c**t prick.
The market will provide what we demand from it and are willing to pay for it, even if it is a secondary or grey market.
The sheer fricking hubris of you little prick insisting that others should learn moon runes and asiatic chirps to enjoy a fricking cartoon.
Prick.
>hur dur money can buy anything and everyone should bow to me
american moment
Do I sound american?
But yes money can buy anything. Legally or illegally.
Are you fricking moronic?
Do you not think a private tracker will offer correct translation on torrent with a similar lag to crunchy roll for a lower price?
Crunchyroll started as a fricking piracy site.
if you actually cared about your vidya gaem, you would be learning Japanese and shitting on EOPs everyday
I have to spend enough time in Japan on business, I have a translator with me for all meetings even though you can get by ok in English in the Tokyo area.
I don't have fricking time to learn Jap, I am willing to pay for what I want.
>I don't have fricking time to learn Jap
...but you have time to go on Ganker and complain every thread and every hour of the week?
>>The market will provide what we demand from it and are willing to pay for it,
Then what's your problem? Go get your troonylations from the magical "free market". Pool your money together and pay some con artist to scam you.
Are you fricking dense, the con artists are the 'official' distributors like crunchroll, who's translators have hoist them on their own petard.
it was honestly really funny watch crunchy and the troonlators throw the blame at the other once they knew the cat was out of the bag and they were fricked
>who's
Sorry, I didn't know you don't speak English either.
Well, good luck getting enough capital together to pay some scammer. Be sure to come back here and brag about your premium free market translation, we'd all love to see it.
Will do, nonce, I speak English just fine, given I'm English.
You sound like you're about 12 so you might not remember what it was like buying decent translations in the vhs and laser disc era, we spent a lot for quality.
The mistake you're making is presuming that there is a cap on spend for accuracy. Which is facile, you're mistaking a niche with whole market permanence.
Look at audio, Deezer in particular which forced accuracy with autistic FLAC formats with audiophiles into the mainstream market. The demands of the high end filtered down to the mid market.
>given I'm English.
that explains why you keep redditspacing like a pedo.
>what it was like buying decent translations in the vhs and laser disc era, we spent a lot for quality.
You paid a lot for dogshit, you mean. Piss yellow subs done by some moronic college student who had spent a summer in Japan once. God, the 90s were rough.
>The mistake you're making is presuming that there is a cap on spend for accuracy.
I mean, if you're planning on dropping 50k on a translation, you can probably get it as "accurate" as you want. The guy will probably sit on your lap and walk you through the game. I just figured you were spending less so you'd need to rope in a few more idiots to make up the deficit.
>Deezer
Audiophiles are moronic and will pay a lot of money for snake oil. Nobody can hear better than 192kbps, but a lot of people will pay for FLAC anyway because they want to pretend they can.
Paying more doesn't mean you'll get a better product, that's not how the market works. But hey, here I am talking to a 50 year old LARPer who can barely speak one fricking language, so maybe I'm the idiot for wasting my time trying to explain economics to you.
I will treasure your wisdom next time I'm getting pissed up in Tokyo.
I'm an economist fyi.
>I'm an economist
Explains a lot. Like how you have no comprehension of business, or how you waste your time getting drunk in a country where you can't speak a word. Must be rough, living such a worthless life and not being able to comprehend why.
Hope the next one goes better for you, buddy.
You're a literal commie is trying to explain capitalism to this thread, predicated around an access limiting factor of language which you are insisting cannot be surmounted with capital expenditure.
You literally have no understanding of the entirety of all economic history which is predicated upon both creative destruction from innovation via venture capital.
There is a solution to this issue and it will be brought to market from spending.
That's all their is to it. There is no complicated solution for the consumer than just spending money. I do not have to learn another language to get what I want.
>There is a solution to this issue and it will be brought to market from spending.
If a character says it a billion times in the original, why can't he say it a billion times in the translation?
in japanese there's like 15 variations of it with different subtext and up to 30 if you include the old keigo ones which are often used on games like fire emblem or isekai and fantasy LNs because the characters are supposed to be old fashioned
this subtext is the implication of how they see it, which can go anywhere from "it can't be helped" outright, to "it's not my problem", "it is what it is isn't it? what will you do?", and even "so that's how it's gonna be huh..."
i legitimately don't know why the frick does this trip up even "professional translators" working on "real literature"
it cant be helped is kino
not my problem
japanese is a shit language.
why do you think everyone on earth knows english
my guess would be the british empire taking over most of the planet for a while
>"Actual translation"
>still translates the fricking name
have a nice day immediately
It just says master, not masterpon, and it says senzoo not soosoo.
Desires is redundant and shouldn't be repeated twice, it isn't in Japanese.
"the way you're wording it"
It says "the way you're saying sounds immoral and really messed up".
i like how however made this couldn't tell that the text accidentally got shifted into the wrong lines and no one even mentioned it so far.
How does the discussion of localizers affect you personally?
There is no "discussion"
It's just the same 30 images posted over and over again.
and you still doesn't understand, dumb troony
You don't understand. That's why you keep spamming the same 30 images day after day.
You have no actual leg to stand on.
And how does that affect you personally? Dumb homosexual.
they forced me to waste years of my life to learn japanese.
The same exact way a cook spitting on your food does
>food analogy
The eternal mutt
You are such a fricking tourist.
they force me to doxx them and send dead dogs to their moms
it's filled with neo marxists activists puritans and gays. frick them all.
>how does aids affect sex
i doesn't
you don't have any
just like you don't know jap
they inject woke shit into my anime and vidya
gays who had nothing to do with the creative vision get to shit up a game before I play it.
imagine single handedly spearheading an AI takeover of your profession
lol
Or just being so horrible that people put your entire profession out of work because they hate you.
qrd?
>Learn about the world during your commute (may be the channel title)
>Today's keyword: "weeb"
>The shocking state of Japanese anime overseas
>"Everyone in Japan raise your voice"

So what they just randomly stumbled upon the fact that western localization of japanese games is a nightmare? Better late than never I guess
LMAO
>But they translate shit
I believe this particular lolcowlizer says she isn't fluent in it conversationally, which make of that what you will.
The way it works at funimation and other moron homosexual studios is that they have a translator translate the script, and then the "localizers" go over it and "correct" it for "western audiences" (ie, homosexuals).
>localizers keep fricking up shit for over a decade
>someone sends Asmongold the pic about the Dragon Maid "patriarchy" dialogue
>he makes a video about it
>Japanese e-celebs and vtubers see it too and make videos about it
>starts to spread like a wildfire just how hard localizers frick up translations
>not as in badly translated but in outright changing the artists works
>for the first time there seems to be push from Japan itself against bad international translations
For once, the balding rat did something good.
>Saved wow
>Saved vidya translation
How does he do it?
>Saved WoW
Quick rundown?
Switched to streaming ff14, forcing blizz to up their game to keep his fambase.
how have they upped their game?
Asmongold has clout and a sizable following, that is how.
Honestly the localization sounds way less dry and boring.
Plus I'm sure you never complain when they gratuitously throw in slurs and cuss words for no reason.
>I'm sure you never complain when they gratuitously throw in slurs and cuss words for no reason.
I do, I hate cursing in localizations, theres no curse words in Japanese. てめえ being translated to "you fricking bastard" is awful
You dumb homosexuals whine about people writing in broken english and now you want your translations to be written in broken english? Why? Do you actually think about the shit you write? Do you want every translation to sound like someone from India wrote it out for you to make it sound more '''authentic''' to the Japanese experience?
Better than the vandalized shit we have now
>you want your translations to be written in broken english?
You're so moronic it's hilarious.
Off yourself NOW.
>It's a different culture and language, why the frick should it feel "natural" in English?
Your literal words you dumb schizo.
It doesn't need to sound natural, it cannot be broken English.
Comprende?
Enjoy unemployment.
>the truth is... Sounds weird
I genuinely think "damn you" or "you frick" are good options. If it just gets translated as "you," the disrespect is lost, isn't it?
yes, he's an idiot.
thats why you should play games in Japanese, you either get a butchered version with made up words added or you get something that doesnt read right
On an individual level, fair enough. On the level that there will always be a giant demographic who will settle for English, you end up discounting their unfortunate experience.
>Honestly the localization sounds way less dry and boring.
Not your job to "spice things up'
The fricked up thing about this “japanese is too dry” meme is that it’s perpetuated from an era where MTL was somehow worse than it is today, and just like today even the best “official” translations were either glorified edited MTL or N6 trash.
Nice job exposing your N8 level knowledge of Japanese.
And if you complain about mistranslation you get swarmed with the typical NPC reactions like
>literal translations dont work
>localization does not equal translations
>etc.
even though you never asked for a "literal" translations.
>Learn Japanese
>Become a translator
>people complain that your translations are bad
>decide that the trannies were right and become an 'ally'
It's fricking insidious.
I've come to realize that when localization shitters say
>breathing life and humor into dull lifeless scripts
They really mean
>I can't read long lines of text without contemporary memes to hold my attention
The arrogance that is born of "it won't sell unless we change it because the Japanese are moronic when it comes to writing" is some of the most racist shit I have ever seen.
>doctor, I have a terrible headache
>I prescribe you to dance the cucaracha twice a day
>wtf?
>Come on, honestly, pain meds are SO boring...
Based. AI won!
>With the context the dub translation is almost funny, it highlights that anyone complaining about the way she looks is likely two faced and will also want her to go back to normal if she changes any. Holy Cope

Finally! Frick them!
>With the context the dub translation is almost funny, it highlights that anyone complaining about the way she looks is likely two faced and will also want her to go back to normal if she changes any
It's kinda funny and anti-woke too.
>AI translation: Good
>AI art: "NO YOU CAN'T DO"
who are you quoting? both are good
ai translation are pure garbage
Maybe you should get an AI to translate for you ESL-kun.
translation's
the sad thing is AI translation is 95% better than most translators out there and it'll only get better and better
way more cheaper and efficient too
AI translation will only be beneficial if japanese cut the overseas localizer middleman off also. otherwise it will be the troonylators using AI to translate and nothing changes. basically AI translation needs to become so good that you can just input text and get perfect translation out. if that isnt possible then you will always need an english proofreader to fix the script.
If we would have to draw parallels to art, current troonyslators are akin to those horrible old Tumblr drawings where every fictional character gets turned into a fat Black person with body hair all over. I'd absolutely take AI slop over that.
I would rather be killed by death robots that AI will eventually spawn than live under woke Leftists.
You are a fricking moron, so you are doomed regardless. Using "leftist" tells the world that you are a redneck. No sane person uses that word.
>You are a fricking moron
>uses a no true scotsman argument himself
lol, lmao even
If that's garbage, lolcowlizers are like the Ganges then
LLMs have been doing an excellent job as translators.
I doubt, I'd hire a professional for languages I don't know these days.
>be obnoxious unlikable homosexuals for decades, actively shitting on anyone who criticized them
>only tolerated because there's no alternative
>the moment an alternative becomes viable everyone turns on them
you reap what you sow
Good. Spread this bullshit to every corner of Japanese news! This heresy must top!

Are game localizers as bad as anime/manga localizers? Now that I think about it, was the russian script for atomic heart as bad as the localized one?
I would say they're close to being equivalent. Most of the same people responsible shift all around entertainment, they aren't specifically a game localizer or an anime localizer.
In terms of quality, Anime used to be way, way worse but got its shit kicked in by piracy so has improved quite a bit (and then got worse again, recent years has been abysmal). Game translations have always been bad.
I see
Frick it. If the rumors of that one yakuza member funding AI translators are turn, that yakuza member deserves a fricking medal.
Literally rename character to STD because they just got one

>in japanese version she's a cute cake who cant find a husband
>in english she has syphilis
This one bothers me so much that I still haven't been able to bring myself to play the arland games
Look at the STALKER translation.
The bandits always say "bratishka" which is a dimunitive form of "brat (brother)" so the translation just has them constantly say "bro" this and "bro" that. But the connotation is completely different, "bro" is far more casual in English than the variants used in Russian, it makes bandits and freedomers seems like fricking surfer boys and kills my immersion completely.
so why not just translate it as brat?
At this point I am a full supporter of human translations because I don't care about your animu shovelware games and want to see you autists ssethe
I want MORE translated games to have "jelly filled donut" tier gems and zoomer humor and I am NOT kidding
Keep up the good fight, xis!
Man I wish it was just jelly filled donut frying pan drying pan stuff.
Thanks xir, xes is fighting a good fight.
Yaas queen, slay!
Post your pronouns, homosexual.
Why do I get the feeling that these threads are less about videogames and videogame translations, and more about culture war bullshit?
Not even the hate appears to be coming from a place of someone actually wanting videogames in English.
These threads have always been about stupid people whining that they're too stupid to learn Japanese
Oh shoot. Shots fired. Stop he'd already dead.
There's a difference between
>can't be done/achieved
and
>hasn't been done/attempted
Language is constantly evolving and there's no such thing as sacrosanct in translation work. 100% literal is possible and always will be the goal. If our more renown authors of the past would have had their way it would probably be past tense. You vastly overestimate how many people in generations prior to us used to be literate.
Because you're a dumbfrick.
But OP doesn't care about the quality of translations. He has admitted to that several times across all these threads. He just wants to see the people he hate suffer.
I don't give a frick what op says.
So you go from thread to thread asking people to shove stuff up your ass, I have just as much proof schizo.
americans overuse "thank you" so much that it's completely meaningless
Because you're a dumdum. There are localizers who, in fact, inject their "culture war bullshit" into their work instead of doing their job correctly.
>Robots start taking over factories, plantations, blue collar jobs and wagies
>"Heh, that's just progress, should've studdied more and gotten a real job"
>Robots and AI can now code, create images, create essays in seconds, replicate voices, translate in real time
>Only will get better in the future
>"NOOOOOOOOOOOO HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?!?!?!?"
>Robots and AI can now code, create images, create essays in seconds, replicate voices, translate in real time
And none of it is good. This board is 18+ btw.
>Only will get better in the future
cope all you wants
It can't be helped
>the only choice are trannbawdors and AI
Good thing I started studying Japanese and haven't played a Japanese game in English in nearly 2 years.
>Good thing I started studying Japanese and haven't played a Japanese game in English in nearly 2 years.
I'm learning japanese so I don't have to care either way.
Wont all AI translations still need editors? AI cant understand context or puns. And editors are where translations actually get fricked over.
Train a model to be an editor.
>why did you make an AI that screams rape
>the guy who thinks that AI is magic
This is true, the idea is that Japanese companies can do editing in-house thanks to the fact that the AI would give them a direct translation of their work. Realistically hiring an editor is easier than hiring a loocalizer
They will, yes. AI will only replace translators, not localizers.
Sadly the morons here are too fricking stupid to know the difference.
translators are already replaced by MTL
Large language models are really good at associating words. I wouldn't be surprised if some could manage to automatically add a note explaining the joke if asked to translate that.
>AI cant understand context or puns
They totally do, seriously you've got your head in the ground if you don't know LLMs do this just fine.
Why would you just lie on the internet?
>t. hasn't used ai since gpt 2
>AI cant understand context or puns.
the current troonlators are the ones that can't while AI can lmfao
if Ganker actually was learning Japanese instead of larping about it then we wouldnt be having these threads everyday.
>AAAIEEEE STOP FIGHTING ME
tell me how the unemployment line smells when you get there.
>I buy them on Steam
sounds like a (you) issue then
Why does that matter though? You're completely bypassing the problem.
im even more pissed
What pun? Sardines are weakfish
Or how about you do your job properly, you troony moron? It's no one else's responsibility to do your job for you.
These companies knew that the frickwits in charge don't even know japanese.
oh noooo, the homosexuals that mistranslate shit on purpose to insert american fotm memes into japanese games... how will we survive without an outdated among us sus reference in our horror dating VN
>criticize localizations
>nooooooooooooo if you truly care you must learn japanese, who fricking cares lalalalala I can't hear you!
Die.
>criticize localizations
>if you truly care you must learn japanese, who fricking cares
i choose both
What if we just hire better localizers?
>What if we just hire better localizers?
one of the danger hair's would call him a sexist rapist and he would get fired for embarrassing the clique.
No! It has to be AI!
>thread archives
>immediately make another one
It's cute how you think you'll win.
If I can pay for it why should I learn? Why shouldn't I ask for better standards when I am spending money on it?
have a nice day
>STOP FIIIGHTTINNNG USSSS QUITTT ITTTTT JUST LEARN JAPANESE AND LET ME CONTROL ENGLISH FOREVER
No.
can you be anymore childish?
>STOP FIGHTING ME By the way you're being childish for telling me to frick off
can you be anymore entitled?
What is it then?
im literally moronic and also lazy
Kanji as used by Chinese doesn't have multiple readings (kun, on).
chinese use 10x as much kanji instead which makes it even harder.
Redpill me on nihongo
How hard is it to start being able to read LNs theres a few I'm interested that are NEVER EVER-tier for TLs
It's actually pretty easy to start, but you'll hit a wall once you start trying to learn the multiple meanings and pronunciations of kanji. The only way thru is practice and reading everything with a dictionary in hand. what vns are you trying to read?
>reading everything with a dictionary in hand
How do you find what you're looking for without furi to at least sound it out with?
You search by radicals.
The more you search by radicals, the more you assimilate the radicals by osmosis, which makes future searches that much faster.
Just keep at it, you're literaly moronic, as in you're not dumber than me you just started later.
In that case, I guess I'll dedicate some time to learning radicals themselves, makes it much seem more doable in my head.
I speak 4 languages, I'm trying to learn Jap, but it's hard since the knowledge of other languages doesn't help much with this one, since it's too different
nice syntax there, homosexual. you would do well to focus on your english first.
shut up moron im not typing to impress people here
I learned Japanese purely because I hated reading shit translations. I think it's good if they keep being shit thus getting more people into learning.
how do i stop being lazy and immediately giving up
Make some time to read Yotsubato every day. Then just go from there.
I studied a bit every day on public transport. Probably couldn't get myself to do anything now as a hikkiNEET.
>Probably couldn't get myself to do anything now as a hikkiNEET.
its over
This could have been avoided if these localizers didn't try to insert topical memes or political shit they absorbed from twitter into game text
The most frustrating part is that whenever people try to call them out on it they just say they're adapting it to english which is not at all what they're doing.
Show me a 5ch or similar BBS thread with people talking about it, then I'll care
when did they change names to 5ch? is it so people stop getting their name mixed up with the other site I also cant remember? futaba?
different management, it's a whole long story.
anyway here's a thread: it's decently fast and populated too: https://nova.5ch.net/test/read.cgi/livegalileo/1704621210
The japs are definitely talking about it. Protip: use something like Siki browser to read 5ch, it's what almost every jap does
oh wait wrong thread
https://nova.5ch.net/test/read.cgi/livegalileo/1703370938
You can tell Jamie Marchi is afraid now with the response video she made to Asmongold. I hope more big youtubers make videos on this.
I hope Nick Doerr died.
Japanese is uniquely untranslatable as a language tbh. So much nuance is lost in translation that there a movie called "lost in translation"
Is it true that all the competent japanese translators are in white collar fields already, meaning that media is left with the dregs?
Sure, it's the same situation as with vidya devs. If you're talented, why would you bother making vidya under absolutely shitty conditions when you can be making a lot more money doing less work in other fields? You'd have to be moronic to do it.
how can an AI localize?
it can only translate directly afaik
its called models, at some point AI's will be able to model Japanese brains and will be able to perfectly understand context, its already good enough for Japanese companies to switch over
understanding japanese context isnt enough, you need it to be able to adapt suitable meanings / replacements for english to make it work. and that isnt an easy task even for a native that knows english.
thats the beauty of AI though, it gets smarter the more you feed it. At some point it will understand Japanese and English better than native bilingual speakers. Just gotta wait
Up to a point, Sam Altman said you can't keep feeding data and expect better results. At some point the methods have to change.
Then methods will change. Billions of dollars are being pushed into this stuff. Microsoft is adding a fricking AI button to keyboards.
>just gotta wait
well then post about it when it works, all this hype for nothing
lol so you need localizers anyway and the end result will still be shit
theres going to be an AI translator and an AI localizer, no external bullshit allowed
lol then how are you going to build your model you dumb Black person?
lol get fricked moron
Not an argument.
I didn't make the claim.
You also didn't make an argument.
You claimed something so the burden of proof is on you.
Because they're making shit up.
If the burden of proof were on me then that would imply you made an argument, which you didn't.
I don't have to make an argument when you make a claim with out anything to back it up.
you take games with good localizations and feed it into the model. Lets not pretend old translations werent perfectly fine, its only after 2008 did shit go wrong
lol that's not enough data. you're full of shit.
>Lets not pretend old translations werent perfectly fine
The frick are you on about? Some of the worst ones were from the 90s, some of them were functionally completely fabricated from scratch and some of them are nonsense, BoFII only got retranslated into something functional a year or so ago.
lol gayot

UM CHUD YOU SHOULD JUST LEARN PLUMBING DON'T BOTHER COMPLAINING
Ok guys help me out of dekinai. Where do I read stuff with FURIGANA on? I do understand most of nip if I hear it. Problem is reading kanji. Memorizing kanji is utterly moronic over seeing that shit over time USED IN THE CORRECT FRICKING CONTEXT. But only a few comics use furigana. Or do they? I haven't actually looked at comic raws that much. Sometimes you see furigana. What determines if there's furigana? Certain magazine? Certain genre (shonen, for kids)?
If it's for kids, it has furigana. Just read jump, or play DQ11.
thanks for the confirm, I'll go look at raws
stop using furigana, its a crutch
Never ever going to make it if you're this afraid of kanji.
Monster hunter stories 2 has furigana
i worked the other way around and just started reading hard kanji heavy text and absorbed few kanji a day.
this is just a psyop to get public approwav for ai transition
if they would care about quality we would not be here.
Off-topic is fun sometimes when it's not some inane bullshit, not that vidya threads should ever be given less priority.
You don't understand. These people think they know the undeniable truth about reality. They do this out of a sense of justice and righteousness.
>Native gaijin
>Foreign person
>Native foreign person
I'm impressed by this nu-male's straight up admittance that he wants to turn Japan into the west. Fricking Black folk all of them.
I know this is an old picture but I still wonder if those type of people use the words and phrases like "well um" and "icky" in all sincerity despite it making most people feel like punching them in the face for it.
Around the time it was posted an anon found out that he was a Canadian dude.
is this where 'literally shaking' came from??
No. That form of vernacular is very common in that website. He and many from there talk like that. It's their equivalent of calling people a homosexual.
why the frick do they have such infantile language?
>Why do these infantile people use infantile language?
It's a mystery anon
>tfw i would write a bait almost exactly as this but he is for real
That fish looks pretty frickable.
I bet everyone learning japanese in here can read this, just take the plunge already, stop mining cards in anki and looking for furigana ON. You are smarter than you think.
Funny, I didn't have to learn Czech to play Original War.
Or German to play Gothic.
Or Polish to play Heroes 3.
Kinda feels like all those
>just learn jap
homosexuals are terrible devil's advocates trying to make excuses for horrible hack jobs.
AI should take their jobs and does a much better job.
What a worthless Black person
>stop using using furigana
>you is smart, you is kind
>has the fricking english translation up on screen for an ~n4-3 sentence
can't make this shit up
You overestimate me.
But really, what I need is a game good enough to justify searching up half of each sentence and a way of realistically doing that.
Ok mr learn Japanese man. Explain to me what the frick this means because I have no clue what I'm reading
What is this, your first week? How can you not read ぞぎゅんかこつ, it's like the third word in core 2k?
you have low iq if you cant feel this out
you might make it but it'll take you decades
sorry bro
It's in a weird dialect.
Google says it's Kumamoto-ben.
そぎゃんかこつ apparently means そんなこと
By the same token, どぎゃん must be どんな,
ばい is よ
けん is kara
らせん is らせない
Translated into normal Japanese,
無理よ無理無理!そんなことは無理じゃん!
お兄ちゃんと同じ部屋なんてどうしても暮らせませんから
naruhodo
Waste of time
Japs go too hard with their image macros.

you gotta be an entitled american to not understand how stupid this whole loop is lol
if rightoids are so triggered by 'leftist translations', why don't they become professional translators themselves?
Why should they? Leftoids didn't, /leftypol/tard.
yeah just let me quit my job real quick to translate video games
frick off moron
video game translators arent professional translators. that's like saying "if you dont like your mcdonalds being spit on then why dont you become head chef of a Michelin star restaurant?" i just want the moronic wagie fryer boy not to spit on my burger
>Michelin star restaurant?
These guys?
Unironically yes
smart people who become professional translators work for banks and make 6 figures instead. If you want to do bottom barrel video game translation you get paid minimum wage or someone in SEA will do it for them
>why don't they become professional translators themselves?
The leftists didn't either: https://twitter.com/marchimark/status/1741584063176007940#m
if it was up to me, i would just delete this shit thread.

The funniest part is that they are STILL trying to pretend the problem doesn't exist and caring about their maliciousness. All they have left to attack others with is to scream at them to not believe their lying eyes.

>the sooner you accept you fricking lost
coming from a rightoid this is fricking hilarious.
Not even right wing but no it's not. Do you really think the only alternatives are either 100% literal or original vision being altered with topical memes and politics?
>Not even right wing
why do righties always say this lmao
Why don't you address the other part of my post instead of hyper fixating on that
Because being disingenuous is the only way they can continue this debate. Addressing actual points blows them the frick out, so they need to punch on their strawmen.
Soul
troons:
>ugh this is like such a big deal how can they just put a healthy heterosexual relationship between two attractive characters in this game. i HAVE to put a stop to this its literal murder and slavery against trans folx!
also troons:
>its just like not a big deal why do you care
Mid 2000’s translation was peak. Translation quality while still rough had improved significantly from the 90’s and there were no gays or troonylators trying to push their agenda into the translations.
That's right, everything in the world was the best when you were 12.
isnt that really the core issue? even old translations were sovlful but everything now is just agenda translation. I had to stop playing Baten Kaitos HD because some fricking moron actually added a character saying "yikes" to something "misogynistic"
morons here do realize not everyone posting here is in America and they just want a normal non shitty english translation right?
total leftist agenda pushing hyppie death
Always big amaze how "localizers are shit" threads attract /leftypol/ so much.
Almost like there's a connection.
Connection in that uniligual bros like you are kneejerk reactionary rascist and so have to make everything political in order to compensate for the intellectual meltdown going on within you? Yeah sure.
Why cant these anime/games just transfer all localization works to another country like UK then
amerilards control the western games industry
I love the professionalism shown in the EU version, but I'm definitely a weirdo by American standards cause most slurp up memelations.
Bless NoE.
It's about time Japanese people are finding out how their media is getting butchered overseas.
>40 year old gay here
It’s very funny watching children get mad at translations when I grew up with shit like Woolsey.
this thread makes me wonder how these troonslators would translate this scene today
>Sorry, but you're a demon, I have to do this! Trans rights!
They would cut the scene entirely.
I don't understand the original logic, the hero should go easy on a murderous demon because it's a murderous female demon?
Yes, it's an honor thing, you wouldn't get it.
"Sorry that demon ate your entire family, but it was a lady demon so I had to go easy on her."
Like I said, you wouldn't get it.
Same as Kiryu or Sanji not hitting girls.
It's a fricking shitter guard who gets one shot, hence the strong reaction
I'm so fricking glad this c**t wasn't able to get her fat fingers on Reload's script. Now that Funimation and Sega fired her, I hope we never hear from her again. Stupid c**t should've done her job properly.
>c**t
>her
>her

>c**t

>"Translation is meaning to meaning. Not word to word.
Correct and accurate. So why doesn't she do that? She doesn't even follow her own presentation.
I mean shes right, most of this thread is literally arguing for that you cant/shoudnlt literally translate
because of how Japanese works
As far as troonyslators go this isn’t particularly egregious unless you are a degenerate
Lying is a leftist's most practiced talent. Not saying they're good at it, but they attempt it a lot.
AI translation when? No more excuses!
>AI translation when?
If it gets AI translated then it'll be unreadable forever unless some autistic soul decides to fan translate it in spite of the MTL. We've seen this time and time again by now.
I like how xe specified that the translator consulted with random trannies instead of, you know, the author of book itself
They don't care, it's always about their politics and being able to push it by effectively rewriting story elements.
I used to laugh at this stuff and figured it was more or less the same message. I was a fool and regret not raising hell.
The creator of the manga also confirmed that the character wasn't a troony too.
Why is it always weebshit doe?
It's just revenge politics for them against the people that didn't accept their bullshit.
The hypocrisy of these types of people are so funny and don't even notice they're doing it.
No you moronic libshit, normal Japanese people seeing other normal Japanese people, they don't care for DEI shit unless it's a Japanese-speaking troony pushing it onto their corporate heads.
but can it ever be helped?
Name one corporation making anime that's as wealthy or powerful as Microsoft.
Good thing Microsoft doesnt make the AI replacing localizers

You wouldn't have to worry about localizers if you were doing your reps
sitting on my ass thinking about how nice itll be when i learn japanese = easier than learning japanese
all this "just learn japanese" spam ignores the obvious fact you can both already know japanese and still advocate for the mass replacement of westoids by AI
this, but I also want to add how moronic it is for these homosexual vandalisers to tell these heckin' chud haters to learn Japanese. I mean that would also put you out of a job because if enough of them did that then they'd either replace you at your job or you'd become obsolete entirely because they wouldn't even need to financially support the western releases for these products. Complete fricking morons with zero self awareness.
If they had self awareness they wouldn't be leftists.
ok ive learned to live with twitter screenshot threads. but i would appreciate if we dont spam twitter screenshots of literally who 😮
if fat Gankercels didnt turn it into a political issue this wouldnt be happening
Stop noticing their behavior and they'll magically stop somehow!
you sound like a troony
And you sound like you're projecting.
All the blame lies on the westoid lolcowlizers in this scenario, and there's no real way to play "le both sides".
>people complaining about troons don't work on this industry
so their opinion is irrelevant
either their opinion is irrelevant (despite literally being the target audience) or both sides le bad for le culture war
you can't have both
>It's YOUR fault that I'm a piece of shit that hates you!
Frick you.
>Daiz
Ganker warned you for over a decade and a half. Why didn't you listen?
Those evil yellow bugs should be glad white people with the right opinion are elevating their entertainment to actual art.
if the industry just had good translators without a political agenda we wouldnt have any of these issues right? The fact that we need to invent new technology to counteract something so simple seems like a joke
Do you think twitch meme and "bussing frfr" are political agenda
These people can't help it
They should all be replaced
>ignore it and we wont get dunked on and thrown out! thanks!
lol
lmao
how is getting fired real homie just put your fingers in your ears
homie just walk away from the pink slip
Oh frick they are losing and changing to "ignore them and they go away" LMAO
should. if not, then no right to complain
Fricker, older writers write stuff from their time. Are you pretending I can't go into a library right now and find some pretty sexist shit? Don't include your opinion when it comes to your damn job.
The ones that just outright say "we know better than the original author as they can't write for shit" are so fricking scummy.
Is that an American or some western-aligned Japanese lady?
Half-German, half-Japanese IIRC.
Oh okay.
Oh my god that's cancer incarnate.
>This is the real world's answer to Asuka
Reality fricking sucks.
>(She/Her) Japanese. German. Grew up in Barcelona. Writer. Translator. Intersectional Feminist. Pro-abortion. Black Lives Matter. Endometriosis.
>Intersectional Feminist.
??? does this mean she directs traffic for pink cars only
It means she hates white heterosexual men, think they run the world (LOL) and wants to tear them down and put a crippled, autistic, bigender, lesbian Black person with PTSD in charge of everything.
This is what happens when they grow up with no fathers
>Intersectional Feminist
>Endometriosis
Now here is the bigger question, does she have Endo as punishment for being an Intersectional Feminist or is she a Feminist because she has a reproductive disorder? (For those who do not know, Endometriosis is where the reproductive tract has growths on it, making childbearing nearly impossible)
westernized asian, the sorriest type of creature to walk this Earth.
>that English fluency
reminder that 帰国子女 and their opinions don't represent actual Japanese people. Japanese media exist within the context of Japanese culture, not globohomosexual culture
lol, so she doesn't want to have a job anymore? What?
>They don't give a shit about translation accuracy
True.
Yep.
>once in a blue moon
But these localizers give us translations that are definitely wrong and bad, plus shove their politics down our throat.
tsk. Another dirty EOP thread. Literal translations suck, you know. Translators take liberties all the time. Just lean japanese bro. If you care so much, why don't you become a translator yourself, huh? I thought so.
>EOP
All of these whiny homosexuals are ESLs who are too stupid to learn Japanese. God I wish we had flags.
Because I want to support Japanese technology (the AI used is made by Japanese) to advance and limit the impact of westoid on their culture
But all that is gonna be done by AI so in the end we get better quality translations and troonylators get the rope.
troonylator sisters...
How do we keep our jobs?...
Localize your job application
I heard The Ancient Magnus Bride's AI translation into english is very accurate
ai translation has been very accurate for a long time now tbh. People have been using it in VNs for years now because its so easy to set up
Name 3 games that use it.
Why did people allow them to just claim and hide behind the term localization?
Everytime someone calls them out for being terrible at their job they just go
>tehee, it's a good localization though!
>The main concern seems to be that these localizers are petty and purposefully insert their politics into the localizations
>Is this really about them being "'terrible" at their job though?
I will never play a japanese game in english and I am here advocating for EOPs. Localizers must be defeated
Spiteful mutants. That's all these people are.
Reminder.
how much do u make as a localizer
not a lot, but I get a bonus if I tell people to learn japanese
>I get a bonus if I tell people to learn japanese
you must be rich from this thread
I mean cat-like speech is pretended moronic in Japanese, its just added nyan to everything without any meaning.
pretty moronic*
Just make it into the meow game from Super Troopers.
"Alright meow."
i like this i find it cute but again i might just like cat girls
>"you'd be missing out on gold like this"
that's not gold - that's the kind of crap you write in picture books designed for kids to read.
Why can't localisers just do their job correctly?
This is them doing their job "correctly." Their job is to destroy everything you love because you're a cis-het white male capitalist chud colonizer racist transphobe misogynist.
I too have a cat that says 'cat' all the time.
Kill all localizers
>Live in Japan for 2 years now
>Can't read any of the Japanese posted in this thread
I can't wait to go home and kill myself bros
Good night
same but 1 year
>live in Japan for 7 years
>never study
>can understand N2 Japanese
And you can understand it super easy if you're just reading it since its just japanese but twice as long
>you literally never need to use keigo unless you live in Japan anyway
Congratulations on outing yourself as not even knowing what keigo is.
Hes not wrong.
Keigo is only used in formal settings.
You can get by with casual Japanese in the workplace if you're a foreigner.
jdkj
>You can get by with casual Japanese in the workplace if you're a foreigner.
this, people fricking clap when I speak Japanese because they dont expect me to know anything
>people think i'm a moron
>and so i act like a moron
>i don't like to disappoint
If you can hold a conversation in Japanese, then you're OK.
Japanese people do it any foreigner that speaks Japanese, no matter their level. They don't wanna be rude.
>keigo and yakuwarigo
And even then Japanese people have a hard time.
I just use casual Japanese at my job.
Who is Mr Bukuta?
I wish I lived in Japan, can I just get a work visa as a programmer?
Gotta love weasel words.
>Censorship has a negative connotation in this moment, switch to nuspeak alternative.
These people would make Big Brother shit himself for fear of being made a thought criminal. These people make the Inner Party look like Goldstein collaborators.
What a homosexual, twisting and wording his shit carefully to avoid saying yes.
>No, except yes and it's a good thing
I'm always confused by shit like this.
Neo-fascist types seem okay with nudity and sexual content in videogames anime, but for some reason still cry about shit like WAP and Sexy red.
Quality over quantity, moron.
>See, real-world beautiful unambiguously adult women shaking their ass bad
>Underage fictional character showing tiddy good
From the same "the west has fallen" types btw.
>megan thee stallion
>beautiful
Black person.
>Not finding this attractive
I'm white and even I think you're a dumb cracker.
It comes down to the audience and the level of institutional control they have. If they control the institutions they will gleefully attack creators and the audience. If they don't have control they will simply ignore its existence until there's a critical mass of them that have infiltrated the industry. Rarely they will try to brute force their way in using attack articles and shaming tactics.
>xe thinks fighting against chuds on Ganker have any impact
>while the one making the most impact in this whole drama only read his own subreddit for the whole situation
Go post on /r/Asmongold troonylators
Half the people in this thread taking the "pro-chud" position are just doing it out of contrarian spite or to troll. Trying to get serious debate on Ganker is hilarious but they still try!
The irony is these people are the main argument for proving Japan is right for being wacist against gaijins, homos/troons, femoids, and fatsos.
That's ultimately what localizers want.
The Japanese media they claim to love still embarrasses them, so they water it down to the point where people who have no business consuming it start doing so in droves.
Seeing Japanese media gatekeep itself is their greatest fear.
>Seeing Japanese media gatekeep itself is their greatest fear.
Which is also why they spend monumental amounts of effort lying directly to the faces of japanese executives, as proved by PSO2.
>normalgays are now ruining your niche hobby and that's a Good Thing that you always wanted so shut up
burn them all in cages
>my opinion is irrefutable fact
This guy 100% hates Japan and the Japanese language. It's not even American pigheadedness, it's just pure disdain.
it's the westoid goylem programming for their israelite masters, it's nothing inherently amerimutt
I agree with this
Dont put shit like senpai or honorifics in a translation
>Dont put shit like senpai or honorifics in a translation
but you need them or else you get really awkward scenes like
>you forgot to add -san my name
and a nonsensical english translation
Just change that to " dont be so rude" easy
thats localizing and wrong according to Ganker
How did that guy even come into contact with Ganker and Ganker-material?
He clearly hates it.
link the video in OP or something you c**ts
It's not rocket science. Look at what it says, and write it out that way to the best you can. We need no additional input. If you don't do that, well you're in the wrong job.
the westoids working on anti-japan censorship publishing (localizations) are failed writers
mind you this means they couldn't make it when the competition is shit like this
Found it
Frick you OP

>wanting accurate non trash translations makes people a "chud" now
accurate non trash translations
