picture quality on them is perfectly fine for living room use but there's no priority on input lag and because they make them like 2 cm thin they usually have godawful speakers and the cheapest and most useless stands possible.

            Anonymous

Typically those super cheap 4k TVs only go up to 400 nits, and if they have HDR it looks horrendously bad because of the lack of local dimming causing all the black areas surrounding a bright portion of the picture to bloom. t. had to help my brother buy the "best possible not-ripoff" TV and he always refuses to spend over 300 bucks on one because "it all looks the same anyway." At that price range you're getting total garbage unless you luck into some insane deal like that QLED for 200 bucks best buy did last year.

I don't care how much money you spend on a tv, you're not getting not shit sound from shitty inbuilt speakers. Even a couple of standalone ones for $300 will blow away anything any tv has.

I assume the TOS they have you agree to includes a stipulation to not modify the TV in any way that prevents the telemetry from working otherwise they bill you 500 bucks. Either way, I have no idea who the fuck would want this thing. Decent TVs are on sale for a few hundred bucks all the time, so unless you're so destitute that you have no other way to possibly own a TV there's no point.

Nope, there's no patent treaty like that at all. US patents only matter if you want to enter the US market.
In fact EU countries up until now haven't had unified patents even among themselves, only the application process was unified but each country's patent office would make the final decision on its own. That's only changing in June when the EU unitary patent system comes into effect.

You are legitimately a sheltered ass kid if you believe this. Even living in a modern day ghetto in section 8 housing is a better life than peasants had. We're literally in the safest period in all of history right now with access to medicine and devices that would seem like fucking sorcery even 100 years ago. You can have access to a near infinite source of knowledge on any conceivable subject you want and teach yourself anything without needing to step foot in a classroom. No, living as a poor ass peasant working 15+ hours a day so you could eat some bread and a handful of beans and then be told that you can't learn to read because that's not for peasants is not a better existence than what you get in even a modern third world country, no matter what the oogabooga left tribe/right tribe political pundit told you to believe in a youtube video.

Those conditions wouldn't hold up to scrutiny in a court case anon.
It is in fact, not considered legally enforceable to require an internet connection, nor is it enforceable to dictate how much a person uses a product they lease from you.
It would also not be enforceable to require that people don't cover or block the camera or screen (provided they don't actually modify the device itself in the process, so putting something in front of it would be something they could do nothing about). However it WOULD be viable to have the upper screen stop functioning if the lower screen is ever detected to be blocked/obstructed.

You can enforce no-modify and no-install terms, so the c and d conditions are viable, but the a and b would never hold up.
Also in the case of the terms being broken, it would be up to the owner (Telly, in this case) to retrieve the property, charging an account is certainly possible, but not an enforceable condition (in fact, legally you actually have to allow people to remove any automatic payment methods from your service if they wish in cases like this, so forcing a payment isn't viable, they would have to come take the TV back themselves).

most people don't use an adblocker so they're constantly bombarded by ads so the products just worm their way into their subconscious.

Anyone who thinks advertising doesn't work on them at all is an idiot, though.

        Anonymous

the first step of advertising is letting you know product exists. Even if you hate it the chances of you buying product are now higher vs you never even knowing it exists.

after being exposed to an ad, you are aware of the product existence. It doesn't matter howresistant to it you think you are, you will always have a little spot in the back of your head telling you that <product> exists. That's all it take for an ad to work: reminding you, even if annoyingly, that a product exist.

        >hurr durr if you know the product exists you'll totally buy it
        Get fucked you gays.
        >Oh wow I saw your ad for laundry detergent I guess I'm buying that brand now over what I already use.

          Anonymous

Anon, that literally is how advertising works on 99% of people. You are more likely to choose a specific brand if you're aware it exists. There's a reason you used to get bombarded with diaper and tampax ads before technology made advertising more targetted.

Well I'm not that way and I assume most anons aren't either. It's really stupid to assume just because you know something exists means you're going to buy it, and the projection some morons are doing by stating it as some fact that applies to everyone is retarded.

If you can't sell Product on sex, you need to sell it on awareness. It's not just the garden gnomemoney that makes ragebait advertising so common now. Pissing people off means they'll talk about Product to others who in turn will become aware of Products existence.

What do you think would be the most efficient use for advertisers?

So far I've been thinking power generation. It would take some initial energy expenditure to get them to the point of combustion, but there is decent energy density here. It's also easy logistically speaking because waste power plants are designed exactly for this task. Or am I underestimating the amount of energy it would take to evaporate the water?
An alternative is animal feed. I'm not really sure what would be more efficient energy wise. It would definitely make for a novelty food item to have advertiser fed pork, although I'm also not sure how pigs taste when they are raised on a carnivorous diet.

I also have a theory that MS went so hard on making the One an "all in one" entertainment box, complete with built in Kinect with camera and sensors, so they could scrape your cable viewing data and motion data. That was right around the time Microsoft switched to being a data scraping company. But that's just a theory, not one I've ever seen anyone mention though.

Why would you cover it up? That's just going to be a heat trap. You open it and remove the ribbon cable that's connected to the panel. As far as the TVs hardware is concerned, it's still running and playing fine.

Literally the entire point of the free TV is to show you ads and sell data they collect on you. The thing has a built in camera and microphone and requires you to have the TV connected to the internet at all times. You also need to provide them with a bank account that they'll immediately put a $500 charge on the moment you break their terms. Yes, that's enforceable and you're not going to outgarden gnome them at their own game.

That's the thing, it's not worth the effort. If you'd be willing to go through all that and risk a 500 dollar charge you could just wait for a sale or get a higher quality used or open box tv for cheaper than that off of Amazon or Best Buy and not have to deal with all that shit.
