Atmosphere in REmake 1 is dogshit compared to the first. Crimsonheads are a dumb gimmick to pad out the game and punishes players for not getting RNG headbursts since they nerfed the shotgun so as to not have an instant headburst when you aim up. Turning the mansion into a generic haunted house actively fricks with the sense of progression since now EVERYTHING looks like its been broken down and abandoned for decades, which makes zero fricking sense when its an active facility that was in use up until a month before the STARS arrive.
This. The first game is great for that first step for the franchise but only nostalgia can make someone actually enjoy the original RE1 over the REmake. The REmakes of 2-4 are pretty good but they're their own thing and can't compete with the originals at all.

Mechanically on normal mode I’d say its the best since the game goes out of its way to be as fluid as possible and the dodge is a great addition that plays directly into that. damn shame hardmode changes the input timing and makes it almost fricking useless. Its still a great game and I enjoy it more than RE2.

Because it did LITERALLY everything the Demake3 did. Just because RE3's demake was butchered even more does not make 2's absolutely pathetic zoomer version any "better". It's literally THE worst-case scenario I and many, many OG fans had in mind. But alas, RE games are no longer made for the OG audiences, but the easy-to-please zoomer gays.

Kendo, Ben, Chief's and even the MC's roles were absolutely butchered. Most of them were made into single-scene jokes, never to be seen again.

I don't think you've actually played the original since you were a child, because the combat consisted of press two buttons until everything in the room was dead and the puzzles weren't difficult at all. There was barely any resource management needed because after like the first hour of the game you're swimming in ammo and healing. RE2R on hardcore is more difficult than the original except for the Nightmare mode which was only on the DC and PC releases that like 5 people played.
Playing the original fully for the first time, I was stuck in the station awhile running back and forth constantly getting lost because the layout is different but similar enough to make it oddly disorienting
i looooved re2. i thought re2 remake was way too hard all the zombies keep coming into the building..i think i don't understand how to play even blocking up some windows didn't do enough overall. i didn't get very far at all ;-;

I played Dino Crisis like two years ago from start to finish and that is my honest opinion, i played the demo a lot when i was younger and was finally curious to play the full game, it was disappointing
REmake2 is a very respectable demake, REmake3 is pretty crap, didn't even finish it and i was at what seemed the best part of the game aka the labs

Constantly respawning enemies that take way too much ammo to actually put down making tranqs the only viable weapon is moronic. environments are all the same grey fricking walls until you get to the labs where theyre yellow and white. idiotic “puzzles” that make Resident Evil’s look like fricking professor layton. A moronic fricking plot.
DC2 did the correct thing by embracing itself as a campy over the top action flick instead of trying to be a shitty RE clone with dinos. plays a lot better, environments are beautiful and varied, and the gameplay is actually buttery smooth action kino instead of choppy halfbaked “survival” mechanics.

You are too young to speak about these things, the 4th gen for example was full of FMV games, just because they didn't have much success doesn't mean they didn't have big budgets compared to other games of that era, RE2 is a proper videogame and the number of "cutscenes" that it has is very limited.

The original is better, especially with the PC/Dreamcast Hard Mode. It's a more complete experience and a better told story. RE2Make is very good though, in spite of a few scenes being cut out and the A/B scenarios being dropped.

FF7 came out before RE2 did and sold almost 3 times as much. Metal Gear Solid was out two months before RE2 and is constantly cited as one of the modern movie game progenitors. Half-Life 1 came out like two weeks after RE2 and is basically the archetype for the modern linear setpiece driven action game that's been the standard since like the mid 00s.
