Neither of the ones in the picture.
It's the original Xbox Duke controller, then a huge gap, then the DualShock 3.
These new controllers cost 3x the price and don't even have analog face buttons. Trash.
>look it up >it either has gyro but no triggers option when using in switch mode, or triggers but no gyro in xbone mode
goddamn it,
also how are analogs in it? I only have old controller that was based on NES and analogs on it are giving me aneurysm
Never used DS5 nor s/x controller but layout wise for me its the xbox.
I use a controller only for games that do not require constant camera control so asymmetrical is the more comfortable option.
They're both clinging to obsolete design principles to avoid alienating the normalgays.
At least the Dualsense has a gyro and a DPad located in a usable spot instead of deliberately placing it somewhere unusable to force incompatibility across multiplats like Xbox did. >Muh symmetry/asymmetry
Unfortunately the ideal face of a modern controller's right side looks like this
The right analog stick is unnecessary, since gyro means that most of the time you just use it to emulate button inputs for quick turns.
Yes, and practically everything else is better at providing that than an analog stick is.
4-directional face buttons just do what flickstick does and a trackpad is more versatile.
The argument for the left analog stick is easily won, you just have the character run in a smooth circle and everyone can see the utility; there is no equivalent demonstration for the right analog stick in most situations because its function has no relation to camera control.
This controller reminded me why I loved the psx/ps2 style shoulder buttons. I can see the appeal for the few racing games that have sensitive acceleration, but god it gets tedious for every single other game in existence. The hair trigger is a godsend and I sincerely can't live without it.
Honestly wish there was more 3rd party controllers that had trigger buttons and symmetrical sticks. I've been making due with using an adapter for my psx controller but the thought that its gonna wear down and get worse gets me very concerned. I can't imagine playing a lot of playstation games without it, like katamari or ape escape. Why is every 3rd party symmetrical stick controller so behind compared to all these Xbox and switch styled ones? Even the few that exist shove in shitty mushy triggers. Analog triggers are so fricking niche it baffles me that its the standard. Fricking switch doesn't even have analog and yet the controllers made for it aside from joycons still retain the shitty shape.
I want gyro but I think I'll just add it to XBOX gamepad.
don't want to use a PS controller.
Xbox controller feels better other than i lacking gyro
If I were to buy PS controller for my PC. what version should I get. PS4? is PS5 better in any way?
[...]
buttons are in the wrong places.
DS4 vs Dualsense is entirely up to the shape you prefer. Both can do gyro and etc, a few games have been supporting actual controller features but they're pretty pointless so I'd just say go for whatever ergonomics you like more. Just be sure that you're getting a v2 DS4 if that's what you're aiming for.
>sensitive acceleration
PS2 shoulder buttons also had that because the buttons and d-pad were all pressure sensitive buttons, and in lots of driving games you had to press cross harder to accelerate.
Same with the OG Xbox face buttons.
I have no issue with modern analog triggers though. You can just get a Switch Pro controller on PC if you really need digital triggers.
I only got a ps5 a few months ago and the controller's left stick started drifting recently. I take good care of it so I have no idea why it's doing this.
Sony is for poor people hands. >you can rest you arms since you are tired from wage slaving all day >battery only lasts 2 hours to remind you that life sucks >you touch only the bottom black parts. >White areas are rarely used and even then, for more complicated stuff like menus and hot keys, your broke ass don't know how to do nuffin by yourself
what do you mean by segmented? sony's never changed their Dpad design since PS1, you cant press up + down at the same time or left + right on ANY of their Dpads
The monoblock design for the controller is just a remnant from when wireless and battery technology wasn't good enough to allow for split body controllers to be employed casually.
Bullshit. The second stick is for broad aiming, gyro for precise aiming. You either need a touchpad like the steam controller or a second stick.
Gyro doesn't replace the second stick.
You can also just use some buttons. Flickstick basically forces the analog stick to take up the task of emulating 3 buttons.
Gyro doesn't replace the need for secondary input, but it definitely changes the requirements of whatever that thing needs to do. >Some means to re-orient controller without affecting gyro (SC does this by allowing you to enable/disable the gyro when you aren't touching a touchpad) >inputs that cause the player's view to quickly snap several degrees to the left/right >An input that causes the player to do a 180 degree turn
That's all it needs to do, it could be handled by the face buttons if necessary.
Is this thing worth dropping a couple hundred for a new one or would I be good buying used?
Also how is the d pad on it for 2D platformers?
Pic unrelated lol.
These are both shitty 4 /10 controllers. Designed by people who have no idea about gaming. 2 minutes with either of these and you know Sony and Microsoft are only in this for the money.
My first thought as well. I don't know if I'd call it perfect, but no controller since has fit my hands so well and I wish I could get one for my Switch.
The Pro is pretty good, but too identical to an Xbox controller for my taste.
I hate how locked in controller designs are. Give me more buttons for my other fingers so I don't have to claw grip when I want to sprint in Elden Ring.
thoughts on the 8bitdo ultimate? it's between that and the dualsense for a new pc controller and I can't decide. the hall effect sticks seem like an attractive feature but i've heard mixed things about 8bitdo in general.
I favor symmetrical sticks for left hand claw grip btw
>I favor symmetrical sticks for left hand claw grip btw
Same, which is why I don't like asymmetrical controllers to begin with. Unfortunately, the Dualsense is a little fat to comfortably claw so I prefer using my DS4 for games in which I'd do it.
I like it, although you have to tinker with the button layout for a lot of games that automatically sync to xbone layout. The switch between bluetooth and 2.4 for Switch and PC is very convenient.
I play on PC and I have both dual shock 3 (which I only use for PS emulation since I want to keep it from wearing out, genuine DS3 are almost impossible to find now) and Xbox 360 controller, some of the latter's buttons start to fail, I'm planning to buy a Xbox Series controller but the dpad bugs me off, should I go for a PS5's instead ?
I learned how to solder so i could create the perfect controller
Behold, a ds4 with hall effect sticks and twice as much battery life. No other first party controller is as rich in features as this.
I also have the back button attachment but I don't use it very much
>new one fricking sucks for fighting games
You're supposed to keep the meat of your thumb in the middle and rock it around like a SEGA d-pad as opposed to directly pressing on the cardinals like a Nintendo/PS pad.
Worked pretty well for vampire Savior for me but I prefer sticks anyway.
Anyone used a Hori mini fight pad, or anything close to it?
I'm looking at cheap arcade pads to play low intensity stuff like RPGs on, and don't want something that'll break out of the box.
Biggest drawback I've found with it is no R3/L3, which isn't too bad.
8BitDo. The only time I ever fell for the meme and bought a xbox controller it was fricking terrible and on the internet I was told shit like "yeah it's bad, you need to open it up and fix it yourself lol"
Then I bought a MSI one an it was crap too, the analog sticks didn't work right and I was once again told that I need to open it up and fix it myself because it's garbage.
Bought a 8bitdo one- worked perfectly right out the box, everything controls smoothly and without issues, I dropped it on the floor twice and not even a scratch
I only use controller for games where m+kb isn't appropriate so it's straight up better than the others for me though I use a third party clone of the elite controller not the official one.
I have more authority in this subject than most people since I play retro on actual hardware on a daily basis and modern.
Let me tell you.
Dualsense is the best controller ever.
We take for granted this stuff but man, controllers sure have evolved frick! >Tdlrd Dualsense rules
THIS RIGHT HERE is the best controller for modern games. The metal on metal stick action feels smooth and perfect, you cannot go back to plastic grinding on plastic bullshit after this controller. Mechanical switch face buttons are prime too. For 2D games I use the good ol 8bitdo pro 2. Switch Pro controller feels perfect ergonomically but sticks have poor lifes
i'm convinced anyone who says the xbox controller is just a fanboy and/or hasnt use the dualsense for more than a few minutes if at all. It's so much better it isn't even funny, makes the xbox controller feel like a cheap toy.
I don't have any experience with the dualsense but the Xbox controller is cheap chintzy trash that won't last 5 years before needing to be replaced unlike pretty much every controller pre gen8. Don't buy it unless you're okay with replacing it every 3 years or so, or you're comfortable with soldering
both are good but PS5 has gyro so I'd go with that
It's literally that simple. I'd pick neither, but if I had to pick one I'd pick the one with gyro.
I want gyro but I think I'll just add it to XBOX gamepad.
don't want to use a PS controller.
Xbox controller feels better other than i lacking gyro
If I were to buy PS controller for my PC. what version should I get. PS4? is PS5 better in any way?
buttons are in the wrong places.
if you can find a DualShock 4 dirt cheap go ahead but otherwise get the dual sense
Wii U Pro Pad.
Elite 2
Xbox
came here to say this
I don't care about any other feature
Then the right analog stick is in the wrong place.
Wii U pro controller and Steam Deck are the only ones that get this right.
PS5 controllers are *mildly* uncomfortable at times but otherwise are a 10/10.
Dont know anything about that garbage on the left lol
Where is the wallet button for quicker microtransactions?
can I pay extra for more polygons?
you're going to have to pay 100$ more for PS2 era models
Where's the second stick?
gross
Neither of the ones in the picture.
It's the original Xbox Duke controller, then a huge gap, then the DualShock 3.
These new controllers cost 3x the price and don't even have analog face buttons. Trash.
360 layout wins on ergonomcis.
>*blocks ur path*

Well why'd you post those flimsy alien boomerangs? We're talking about the ultimate controller, right?
>open world controllers
not needed
based
They're both clinging to obsolete design principles to avoid alienating the normalgays.

Unfortunately the ideal face of a modern controller's right side looks like this
The right analog stick is unnecessary, since gyro means that most of the time you just use it to emulate button inputs for quick turns.
>The right analog stick is unnecessary
Gyro is good for precise movement but its pain in the ass if you want bigger range of motion.
Step aside
The frick is this shit, it looks like a tape measure with a fidget spinner glued to it
FlyDigi Vader 3 Pro, the best controller for PC right now.
>no gyro
>best
lol
People don't buy controllers for pc to be troonys
It does have gyro you fricking moron
This controller reminded me why I loved the psx/ps2 style shoulder buttons. I can see the appeal for the few racing games that have sensitive acceleration, but god it gets tedious for every single other game in existence. The hair trigger is a godsend and I sincerely can't live without it.

I like Xbox controllers better. I just don’t really care for haptics and adaptive triggers and stuff like that.
I have the starfield one. Shit game but that's the best looking controller ever.
Not trying to convince you off of your choice but if you do like the xbox controller and just like that color. They do have pic related now.
I like the ps5 because the purp colored one but I think xbox has a way better controller.
Definitely not the Dualsense. I can see liking the DS4 more but the PS5 controller is poopy fart.
The one with the better d pad
>gimmicky shit that only first-party (read: zero) games use
vs
>30 hours of battery life
I only got a ps5 a few months ago and the controller's left stick started drifting recently. I take good care of it so I have no idea why it's doing this.
Neither
Not really a debate, Xbox controller is far better.
Even Dual Shock 4 is better than Dual Sense, the dpad is horrible in the PS5 controller
xbox is the default control stick layout.
Sony is for poor people hands.
>you can rest you arms since you are tired from wage slaving all day
>battery only lasts 2 hours to remind you that life sucks

>Whatever the frick that this is on the left
ps5 controller's dpad is fake actually it just looks segmented because they know the people who buy their products are stupid as frick
what do you mean by segmented? sony's never changed their Dpad design since PS1, you cant press up + down at the same time or left + right on ANY of their Dpads
and they pretend it's segmented when it's not.
Holy shit, the one on the left have a really ugly layout, like someone just randomized the controls positions.
Nintendo go it right over a decade ago.
buttons are fricked. totally in the wrong place.
nintendo were closer with gamecube
>battery life: unlimited
I hate Sony games, but I like their controllers and headphones
.
The monoblock design for the controller is just a remnant from when wireless and battery technology wasn't good enough to allow for split body controllers to be employed casually.
Unironically not needed.
Subdivision surface expensive modifier, please understand.
Bullshit. The second stick is for broad aiming, gyro for precise aiming. You either need a touchpad like the steam controller or a second stick.
Gyro doesn't replace the second stick.
it should have had zero sticks like the original design
it's kind of unbelievable what integrity they ceded to the console cavity ridden droolers
You can also just use some buttons. Flickstick basically forces the analog stick to take up the task of emulating 3 buttons.
Gyro doesn't replace the need for secondary input, but it definitely changes the requirements of whatever that thing needs to do.

That's all it needs to do, it could be handled by the face buttons if necessary.
>toggling the face buttons between camera controls and being face buttons
Not a solution. The scroll wheel is unnecessary on a controller.
Is this thing worth dropping a couple hundred for a new one or would I be good buying used?
Also how is the d pad on it for 2D platformers?
Pic unrelated lol.
Did his human bf buy him that?
w-what's going on in this image
men having sex with men

How will dualsense bros recover from this
just recharge it for a bit
waow

The duke.
so whats the consensus?
I like the ergonomics of the left one more but it starts having drift within 6 months so that's a win for the DS5 I guess.
Only keyboard. Other controllers are fake and gay.

It's not perfect until you replace the dogshit micro USB port with USB-C
While that mod is also possible I didn't bother because I have one of those charging racks that uses the plug on the bottom of the controller
I just use pic related
>twice as much battery life
So after one year of usage you go from 1 hour battery life to 2 hours?
any homies here tried those drift repair boards you solder behind the sticks
Sounds like a scam, just solder on new sticks
The Xbox One controller, but with the old d-pad.
The new one fricking sucks for fighting games, holy shit. And you can't get the old one anymore
>new one fricking sucks for fighting games

how many people have PS4 vs PS5 controllers.

The Xbox controller has better ergonomics, but a lack of gyro really hurts it.

Dualsense is the best controller ever.
We take for granted this stuff but man, controllers sure have evolved frick!

right, feels comfy, smooth and nice to play with
left is too loud and feels small but pc is supports it all the time and some games wont notice my dual sense but always this.
Depends but I'd say right unless you play a ton of different games like me in which case maybe left.
>some games wont notice my dual sense
https://github.com/Ryochan7/DS4Windows/
I will never use a controller that doesn't have the (superior) xbox layout.
Does it have gyro tho?
there actually is ps4 version with the same layout but it costs twice as much for some reason just because it's wireless
Does the d-pad on this fully sink in (no pivot to prevent you from pressing all four directions at once)?
Hated that about the Razer Raion
ドリームキャスト
Total downgrade from the Saturn 3D controller
i'm convinced anyone who says the xbox controller is just a fanboy and/or hasnt use the dualsense for more than a few minutes if at all. It's so much better it isn't even funny, makes the xbox controller feel like a cheap toy.

Both are just fine.
Xbox usually but PS5’s is nice. The other PlayStation controllers are too small unless you’re a woman
You just got fat hands
Lose some weight tubby
Xbox, PS5 controller is ass.
Looks like the GayStation controller has finally reached non-insectoid hand size after 20 years.
Congrats Snoy.
I kind of like Dual Shock 4
