      I don't understand this model both in-universe and out-of-universe
OOU two missile launchers is a fricking awful loadout that's outdone by a devastator squad (and even four missile launchers is bad anyway)
IU you're squandering the potential of having a big guy with armour plating and the capacity for mixed range by giving him two dinky little missile launchers and nothing for close combat

        Anonymous

Missile launchers used to be better back when you had more missile types and stronger volley potential.
Come 5e, they had their death knell.

Hard disagree. It just looks like a missile battery with legs. Not a bad concept if it was clearly remote controlled, but as a piloted thing it just seems silly. Reposition once or twice, fire off missiles… then stand around until one side wins? Lol

kek at you losers who spent thousands on "your" hobby only to get rug pulled when the corporation you helped make rich wants to bring in new whales and doesn't give a frick about your opinions.

Stop getting emotionally attached to nerdshit. The creators of the actual franchise themselves don't care, the owners of the IP don't care, they all just want as much money as possible, and everything else from design to lore is just a ploy to get your shekels.

There’s a difference between liking a hobby or enjoying a work… and being a “fan” of a corporate franchise. The former can enjoy things, take or leave new things without an intense emotional reaction, and forever look back fondly at the time they spent. The latter seethes and let’s their emotions go haywire when new products aren’t available to consoom, or when new product isn’t to their liking, or when someone else enjoys the franchise in the “wrong way” or “doesn’t belong”. It’s the sad fate of every consoomer… spending a life seething that the corporation doesn’t give a frick about you and has the gall to make money elsewhere.

      >New Dreads are an objective upgrade
I know this is bait but this is exactly the reason why old players hate the newer dreads.
Boxnoughts were cool BECAUSE they were shitboxes, revered and cherished by their chapter for the sole fact they could just barely be kept in service while everything better than them couldn't be manufactured or maintained at any sense of scale. They were the best of what was left - relics of the chapter, demonstrating just how much both the Imperium and humanity as a whole had decayed since its height. Every dreadnought lost meant the loss of both a hero as well a piece of humanity's nigh irreplaceable technology - not of its golden age, not even of its silver age, but of its copper-plated senility. Popping out upgraded models that are direct upgrades to previous models and that can be mass produced at scale doesn't make them any better in anything but a rules sense - it just makes what was once unique and thematic into something bland and tasteless.

Somewhat related, it's legitimately crazy to me just how different players tend to understand what 40k "is" based on whether they started in 7th or 8th. The divide is almost as stark as between WHFB and AOS players, though it's not like I can blame them since GW massively changed their approach towards 40k almost as much as they did WHFB when they were planning the End Times and AOS. If the End Times wasn't as badly received as it was, I wonder if they would've went harder on their changes to 40k. People meme'd about the Age of the Emperor in early 8th but I could totally see them rolling all the Eldar into Grand Alliance Ynnari rather than seemingly dropping the whole plotline and faction out of nowhere. I really have to wonder what else was scrapped, even if it was reused later on.

What gets me is talking about lore with sigmargays they're adamant that what currently exists in the lore is perfect and you can't make any changes now, when their setting literally relies on nuking the old lore to replace it with something new.

People on nu-/tg/ are literally too dumb to understand slippity slopes.

Speaking as someone that doesn't hate AOS, if the setting A: hadn't replaced WHFB entirely and B: was approached as a giant cosmic-fantasy Your Dudes sandbox instead of an MCU tier "storyline" it'd be great. I genuinely like the idea of the weird realms and the factions within adapting to them in different ways.
As is, I think the fact modern 40K is as bad as it is shows that no matter how good or otherwise your setting is, it doesn't mean shit if you treat it like a comic book.

That's the model that got 10-year-old me interested in 40k back in 1999.

That GW would sideline one of the most iconic models in 40k history is insane. This is something kids playing DoW remember fondly. For most people a marine is just a marine so mkV versus mkX means nothing. A boxnought and a redemptor are dramatically different with the redemptor trying to ape the boxnought style while pretending to be more realistic so ends up worse in every way.

    >dreadnought in lore: space marine veterans, if not elites, with even more armor, even more guns, and even more sheer strength that should make them on par with company commanders, if not chapter masters

Table top game has a lot of issues that have never been resolved because GW, or at least the foundation of 40k, was always cooler than the TableTop game themselves.
I do remember it being a terror in close combat in 3rd edition though
      >sixes to hit if you have antitank weapons like meltabombs
      >If you missed basically nothing could hurt you
      >Pretty sure it would frick up your entire squad of infantry that either would get swept or slowly slammed into red paste

  12. 2 months ago

It's the strangest thing to me. Intercessors are a nothingburger compared to the disrespect given to the boxnaught, Primaris as a whole is largely being left behind, considering the switch to Tacticus keyword to denote unit compatibility and the upscaling of the Terminators instead of pushing Devastators as the "new" Terminators. Primaris is hardly a word on the lips of recent Marine releases, and the new Terminators could be mistaken for being downright reverential in their adaptation. So why do the dreadnought so dirty? The Ballistus is like of the stupidest models, even worse than Inceptors or the ATV. And really all they HAD to do was lost the knees. I could tolerate the dumbass beer gut armor.

I love the Short Profile, the compact legs & the heavy armour & stuff. I like how it isn't really a Mech-Suit, the Tomb on Legs with guns vibe is rad as hell but more then that the old Boxnaught was a vibe all to its own.

The Taller Dread is ok, not cool enough to replace the box.

They also reinforced the idea that things in the distant past of the Imperium were better. Even if these kinds of Chaos Dredds are debased, they're still closer to massive armored suits than the tomb on legs, and are themselves a downgrade from even more humanoid things like Contemptors from when things were still pretty good
