I can already tell future runs I'm gonna skip all the small rpg-style side stuff and rush the MQ since it's long enough as is without changing much

Needs a reason to use high end mercs too, feel like the game would be better with a mode to disable leveling the shitty cheapo mercs

I haven't played the game, why are all of the possible choices antagonistic towards Graaf? It's pointless to have choices like these.

        Anonymous

The screenshot was taken once the decision to antagonize him was made in the dialog tree.

You can make him work for you if you want and he will remain a slaver.

Probably because he's a scumbag who was trying to kill you just prior, you can spare him by the way

        Anonymous

Top left choice is not antagonistic. You can let him stay as a foreman and get some quick cash in exchange for... consequences.

        Anonymous

You can have him work for you and the mine makes more money as a result, though most of your mercs are pissed at this choice. Also some mercs will kill him regardless of what you choose, like Ivan.

Maybe when I get back from work but it seems easy, I'd just shaped charge the guys on the left then overwatch any still alive with Hitman. The goons are no threat and will not do significant enough damage to matter, so at this point you can start pulling back and crushing the enforcers and gangers on the right as they move up, as long as you stay behind cover the snipers won't be able to do shit and the moment anything gets close Blood gets to do Blood things. The only way I could see losing is if the Snipers get some lucky shot in while I'm mopping up the rest, which is unlikely if you stay in cover and keep falling back. It's cool they are throwing up stuff like this to challenge the players.

I bet the returns for this game were good, cost effective production for a loyal fanbase, you can make good money with something like this
If there isn't a lot of money involved you can even get away with a lot of stuff that that'd be considered unacceptable for a big title
This is imo the best way to do it today, flies under the radar for most people, but you have a smaller, happier base of customers

Make sure you use them sidearms for mobility, they're extremely helpful

      Anonymous

Is it me or are shotguns hilariously busted in this game?
Exposed+Bleed+easy suppress/slow/whatever, plus can deal AoE damage which helps because enemies bunch up often especially the melee ones.
In contrast I could never make much use of one handed sidearms beyond Ernie, they're just too inaccurate and it's not like run and gun is more economical than just running somewhere and then firing an aimed shot or overwatch.

        Anonymous

        >it's not like run and gun is more economical than just running somewhere and then firing
Huh? It literally is, that's the whole point
Make sure you spend your free move first if you have it though.

Characters with low starting agility such as Steroid benefit a lot from pistols and SMGs for their utility precisely for this reason. The higher your agility, the less it matters, but it's still good.

If you haven't tried it, give a short barrel to weapons that will take it, for even cheaper shots and cheaper Run and Gun/Mobile Shot.

        Anonymous

The only usable sidearms are modded Glocks and Desert Eagles. All SMGs are trash aside from giving Mouse a MP5 and letting her stealth kill everything. Shotguns are really strong if you know how to use them effectively, only machine guns are better. People keep talking about rifles and sniping but that actually falls off hard late game when there are more enemies since you need to be able to multikill and rifles are too AP heavy, which makes machine guns/shotguns/explosives the true kings.

          Anonymous

The Commando is one of the best guns in the game and that's categorized as an SMG (despite being a carbine)

You get 5.56, the mobility of an SMG, and a grenade launcher on top

The high power with a short barrel and specialty ammo is a beefy 1-2 punch at 3 AP that will take out enemies even late in the game. The anaconda with a short barrel is great too. Krink is okay

            Anonymous

Yeah Commando and AK-SUs are so good they override the usual problems with SMGs but the issue is it's entirely up to RNG whether or not you ever get them, since they are both rare. You can play through an entire run without getting some of the top tier guns, so categories where the mid tier guns are still really solid or excellent win out.

              Anonymous

Come on, don't lie. The krink is not rare in the mid-game. It shows up all the goddamn time. The Commando is rare, though I think the Beast might be guaranteed to drop it so if you want you can let her get killed and loot it off of her

                Anonymous

Also, Scully starts with a krink, so if you were desperate enough you can just hire Scully to get his gun. That used to be a popular technique in the old games, though not so much this time around since Legendary mercs have lesser gear

                Anonymous

Also also, weapon shipments are now a thing, so you can get rare guns from them

Also also also, Bobby Ray's is coming in the next update, which makes the complaints about weapons not appearing completely meaningless. You can just buy them when that drops

                Anonymous

I specifically said the Commando and AK-SU, which are transformative weapons that elevate SMGs to actually usable level. The krink is debatable, I still don't think it's worth using over the other categories of guns.

                Anonymous

It's definitely usable for mercs that are only using it as a tool to get closer to hit enemies with melee weapons. That way, any damage you get out of it is the cherry on top.

                Anonymous

I don't like melee in this game, it is strong in a sense, but it simply isn't as efficient as sitting back and setting up overwatch killzones and killing stuff from range. I never really encountered fights or situatiosn in the game where I was like "wow I wish I had a strong melee fighter", it DOES save ammo, and if set up properly you can get some multi kills, but it just never seemed worth it over the many other options at your disposal.

                Anonymous

                >I don't like melee in this game

Going RULES OF NATURE is one of the greatest joys you can have in JA3, specially with someone like Nails

                Anonymous

You can kill maybe 2-3 of those guys in a turn with a properly set up melee, meanwhile I can kill all of them with Nails using explosives in a single turn with far less setup. The only value melee has in this game is that it doesn't use up resources.

It actually did pretty well, it's not some huge gigantic game but strategy games never are, they are by definition created for a niche market these days. And it is a solid game, an amazing miracle that the JA series actually got a decent followup in this day and age. No woke bullshit either, another minor miracle. Also the OST is strangely really good which is bizarre for a game like this.

Today I was thinking about how most game developers treat videogames as any commercial product where its value is only determined by how profitable it is.
At least some developers still treat the quality of the game as an end in and of itself.

They fixed an exploit with "extra movement AP available for attacking with melee" and the "extra movement on melee attacking perk".

          Anonymous

You can't go into melee and get endless movement points anymore (which was a bug), which is what was making melee ridiculous on initial release.

I didn't save scum because of any imagined weakness to stealth sniping. Even if you get detected you can just kill off anyone in sight and re-hide.

Save scumming is for suicide AI running across the map and 1-shotting with a machete. Or all my MERCS clumping up and stepping on a mine that the guy in front called out but no one stopped.
          It's a convenience thing.

You can easily stop the melee guys from getting in range of your mercs if you actually take the time to target their legs and groin, but you probably never realized this since doing anything other than trying to headshot with rifles was beyond you.

Except they're rushing from out of sight. And also why would I waste bullets on leg/groin when I can just kill them with a headshot instead of wasting precious AP and ammo?

              Anonymous

The only reason you think AP is precious is because you're solely using rifles whose entire drawback is their high AP costs, but you never realized this or built different weapon loadouts for different situations because you just save scum your way through the game.

I am aggressive because your opinion is misinformed. It is skewed from a perspective of "I reload whenever things go wrong", so literally anything can work. I wouldn't be aggressive if you had simply said "I use stealth snipers, they are fun for me". You instead made the declaration that there is no reason to use anything but stealth snipers. Because, once again, if a situation arises where you cannot one-shot something, you reload. You have no concept of crippling enemies' limbs because you've never thought it out deeper than that.

                Anonymous

not to mention the concept of action point economy
Stealth snipers are incredibly AP expensive to shoot

                >"I reload whenever things go wrong"
I play ironman in balanced games. I don't think JA3 is balanced, and some gameplay mechanics that punish ironman players are tedious, such as mine detection.

I might replay it if they nerf stealth sniping. That was my point from the beginning anyway, that it's too powerful. Especially since the AI doesn't apply tactics to counter it besides "suicidal bum rush". Unless they fixed that?

            Anonymous

lmao you're complaining about a tactic being "overpowered" when it only works when savescumming. Rifles fall off hard if you're actually playing the game for real, since you need to kill multiple enemies per turn when you're not insta gibbing them from stealth and rifles AP costs are too high to pull that off.

I truly believe once you realize this is when you start to enjoy JA3 more

People that are stuck in the stealth sniper mindset are missing out

Reminder that if Barry charges are used by other people that have excellent explosive skill, the mishap chance is negligible

Fidel throwing 2 Barry charges at once is a fun way to delete Very Strong enemies

Tex with shotguns is a fun meme

It's because they're save scummers, like the guy in this thread. They walk around in stealth insta gibbing stuff and any time they get detected because a patrol spots them or someone sees the kill or someone sees the body, they reload and with foreknowledge of this, avoid the problem and continue stealth sniping their way through the map. They then somehow conflate this with "stealth sniping is OP" when what is really OP is their save scumming.

LMGs were pretty useful at launch, but kept getting nerfs. With the ammo expenditure its only justifiable in situations you shouldn't be in in the first place, like

This is the FUBAR situation from the challenge
      >you have 4 mercs vs 19 bad guys. Including a veteran diamond shipment squad, a ganger squad, and a legion squad all together ready to kill you. And they have the high ground. And your armor is fricked. And your weapons were kept in poor condition so they can jam. And only 1 guy has bandages. It doesn't even matter that the save is on easy difficulty, it is still fricked

      or in the refugee camp

        Anonymous

LMGs are incredibly useful, even post nerf. They're far and away the most powerful weapon in the game. Specially now that accuracy attachments apply to their interrupt/overwatch. The only downsides are preparation and high ammo cost

        This was post-patch

I'll post some webms I have

LMG were broken god tier on launch, now they are merely the best weapon in the game. The only thing holding them back is ammo costs, if it wasn't for that the best way to play the game would be to equip your entire squad with them.
