Other consoles are too expensive, as a parent or someone making a purchase--- why bother spending the extra money? Especially when nintendo hasnt gotten any less popular.
You heard what I said, b***h. Don't play with me, moron, you're frick with fire. You don't want to frick with fire. Shit, you don't even jerk off with fire. I'll frick you up. I'll frick you up the ass, moron. You wanna get up the ass fricked, huh? You wanna get up the ass fricked with fire? Frick with me you're frickinged up the ass with fire, pussy.
>paid system with a limited library isn't as popular as a free service you can access via the internet with every multiplatform game from the last 15 years
why would you ever anticipate anything would trounce Steam.
the switch has games, for one. and if we account kids and shit, they're more likely to play on switch and phones than a PS5. A PS5 is mostly just a status item at this point.
There is no accounting for kids. Nintendo has released their demographic charts multiple times and children will always prefer shuut games and whatever normie trash gets shilled on YouTube over Mario. Saying muh kiss is the biggest fricking cope on the planet
>AND PHONES
I accounted that shit, bub. I am aware most if not all of the switch playerbase are manchildren, my main jab was that kids are not going to touch a PS5 before using their phones or ipad. And the switch sits in the middle of those two.
In the end, i think kids are more interested in pc games or anything that is free, i swear i still see kids in fricking gmod and tf2 than mario kart.

You're forgetting that Nintendo is using movies and theme parks to lure people to their core products.
>Big game library >Good selection of retro games bundled with the only subscription >Family friendly games with massive install bases (Mario kart, mario spots, smash bros, pokemon, zelda, pikmin, splatoon, animal crossing etc.) meaning not dead playerbases >Handheld and a console, convenient and completely swallows up the portable console market because there are no competitions other than gaming phones >Cheapest console >Worldwide popularity
A better question would be, why wouldn't it
Nintendo officially won the handheld market. Their last remaining competitors dropped out of the race entirely, *and* they combined their handheld and main consoles into one device for that generation, presumably combining the sales of both to some degree. I don't own a Switch, I don't really care for Nintendo in general, but of course it did well.
Has anyone noticed that leaving the Switch turned off in the dock makes it very hot?
I mean totally off, not "sleeping". That's insane, I don't think it's a good idea to do that. My Switch was turned off for a week on the dock and yesterday I picked it up and it was about 60C...
Seriously Ganker, why should companies waste frickloads of time and money on a pointless graphics arms race instead of making games people would like first and foremost?
>be israelitetendo >make a handheld that actually has games >your competition is moronic and keeps making AAA westernslop movies and/or being anti-consumer >make a gorillion dollars because it turns out that people buy a VIDEO GAME console to play VIDEO GAMES
Woah...how could this have happened??????
>DOESNT COUNT BECAUSE REASONS
the market for vidya has grown like 5-fold in the last 25 years.. straight compraisons are not fair.
for example, scat/vomit's 25M sales will never ever hold a candle to gold and silver's 23.7M sales because they happened in 1999, back when vidya were niche
>the market has grown so much that somehow nobody else beat the PS2 record yet >not even the PS4, despite having the benefit of Microsoft and Nintendo going full moronic with the Xbone and Wii U
Stay delusional. The growth comes from mobile and PC becoming mainstream, not consoles. The space for consoles + handheld has shrunk since the seventh gen.
>How did this thing get to PS2 levels of hardware sold, >Playstation massively fumbling the bag with the PS5 at launch making it nearly impossible to get one, having nothing to play and still managing to consistently bleed exclusives meant there's no real reason to get one if you're not a soulsgay >Xbox ran every relevant franchise they had into the dirt and the gamepass only kneecapped them because why would you buy an xbone when their catalog is on pc for a fraction of the price >Nintendo literally just did what they always do but shittier this gen
They absolutely had nothing, the only reason they won is because they got lucky with the coof and the competition shooting itself in the foot.
I know this is just an obvious bait thread but whatever.
Gaming has become a lot bigger than what it was during the ps2s llifespan. Honestly it's impressive how the ps2 still has the sales record after almost 2 decades.
Also Nintendo's handhelds have always sold good. It was their home consoles that always struggled. That's the reason why Nintendo left that sector behind after the wiiu and gave their handheld a docked mode.
The switch had no competition for years and years before the steam deck came out. And even then I don't think the deck would eat into the switch audience.
It's way less impressive for multiple factors: >the gaming market is way larger than in the PS2 era >Current Nintendo is a bigger company with wider reach than PS2 era Sony (talking game and console markets only since Sony isn't just a game company) >wider distribution, with products being shipped day 1 to pretty much the entire world and digital stores delivering to your house almost anywhere on the planet >more customers in general as the gamer market today includes many adults buying for themselves rather than for their kids >Internet ads and widespread marketing campaigns with wider reach than just tv ads >e-celeb culture, where hundreds of people preorder every new gadget on the market to unbox it, then buy 2 more to smash them for reaction videos, then do the same for new editions or special collector's models
And all that is without even accounting for the fact that yes, they absolutely could have messed with the numbers and nobody but an insider at a fairly high position would be able to dispute it with actual proof.
Because they weren't as popular and didn't have as good of a library? Because Sony's gaming department declined instead of improving?
Sony falling off after the PS2 doesn't change any of what I stated, it just indicates they made a series of bad choices along the way. But you tell me, do you honestly find those numbers impressive when we have Nintendo shill threads on 24/7 and genuine morons following it. Religiously like any of these companies give a shit about them?
It's like thinking a movie is impressive for selling 1bi tickets until you remember that unlike 20 years ago it's being officially released in China and India day 1where you can easily grab 500k if they find your epic robbari movie interesting. It's just not the same anymore.
We've known for years that most of the growth in the video game industry comes first and foremost from mobile games followed by pc games, with console games being in last place, as the most stagnant.
Your analogy doesn't work since people in India and China (Actually everywhere that isn't North America, West Europe, Japan, and South Korea) don't play games on consoles, opting for mobile and pc instead.
I don't think anything can change this, it's probably impossible for a console to ever sell that much more than the ps2, you'll never see a console sell 200 million units even if you live another 50 years.
In this context, the Switch is highly succesful, since it is clearly approaching the upper limit of what is realistically possible to sell.
Simple no games since PS3
Xbox 360 literally pull the rug underneath them costing them millions as they desperately gave the devs all the money to make pretty games (Last of Us) and managed to barely make it to 2nd place, then when Xbox DRM was in full display for Xbone, and Nintendo Fumbled with the Wii U the PS4 gave them false pretense but to make sure they couldn't be bamboozled threw more money for exclusives, even paid Activision 10 years of CoD off Nintendo Hardware, paid Capcom to keep Hi Resolution Textures off Monster Hunter World PC, and despite having a clear runway with the PS4 was so obsessed they even paid devs to remove Nintendo Switch Logos off multiplat games simply out of fear.
Nintendo might not spend a lot of money on what they do, but they do make a lot of money, Microsoft might spend a lot of money and save a lot of money by being your everyday corporation, but Sony only really has licenses and movies to keep them afloat as their Playstation department has burned money, trust, and security all because haha Nintendo makes kids game.
Because of two reasons:
1. Sony failed
2. Pic related
Nah, it's pretty impressive given

How did PS2 get to PS2 levels of hardware sold?
Hint: They actually cheated. Remember how rampant inflated sales reporting was back then? It's sure still a thing now, but that's when Sony was notorious for going over-the-top with it. Not to mention the number of people who mentioned that they had to buy new systems because of the dreaded Disc Read Error. Yeah, remember that? So no whining when the Switch winds up outselling the PS2 with the table tilted in Sony's favour.
Cause Sony failed.

Playstation HQ being moved to the US was a giant mistake.
Playstation isn't Japanese anymore. That's the reason for its ultimate demise.
Movies break records all the time. More people in the world plus more can afford. It's crazy this didn't happen sooner.
Still doesn't touch Steam.
>paid system with a limited library isn't as popular as a free service you can access via the internet with every multiplatform game from the last 15 years
why would you ever anticipate anything would trounce Steam.
Moves stopped breaking records back in like 2019 when Disney was at its highest
covid happened and everyone was forced to get a hobby dumbass
It's a handheld, not a home console.
Its both. Cope, snoyboy. You lost
Hybrid

It has games Eric. What does the PS5 have? Nothing.

Of WiiU ports.
No one bought a wii u
They're effectively new games for anyone that wasn't dumb enough to buy one
kek this I unironically only know 1 person who had a Wii U and I basically called her an idiot. We're not friends anymore 🙁
Most importantly, Wii U games fricking sucked. If it stopped there, Switch would have gone nowhere.
Ok, so... Let's think for a moment.
If Switch is not a console, as some of you say, then what else we have?
>PS5 50 mil
>Xbox S/X 21 mil
TOTAL: 71 mil
...
Are the consoles dying? There won't be next gen?

>t-they must of cheated!
Oink oink eric
Because Nintendo actually makes games
They let their handheld market cannibalize their console market.

I mean totally off, not "sleeping". That's insane, I don't think it's a good idea to do that. My Switch was turned off for a week on the dock and yesterday I picked it up and it was about 60C...
It's because you're leaving a mobile device with a battery hooked up 24/7 to a charger.
Just leave asleep in the dock and reboot it once a month to flush the RAM.

doesn't mean anything. if this were the '00s I'd be kneeling though.

The "world population has increased therefore the record doesn't count" cope is my new favorite
All their first party games are 100% exclusive, cheaper console than the competition, and they’re the only real handheld on the market.
And its games are best played on PC, it's crazy
>all dose jaggies
He's playing on rhe SteamDeck or """"pc""""
>Tendies don't know what FXAA is
Feel free to take a native Switch screenshot and zoom in that close, yours will be a blurry mess lol
Here's Mario Odyssey with the garbage AA modded out for example, not sure if is Wonders has a similar mod
I don't play nu-games but surely there's a way to smooth out that garbage
>How did this thing get to PS2 levels of hardware sold,

do you even like video games?
yea
are you sure
ye
Why, just because you don't like it?
>how did a console with graphics that rival ps4 movies
Don't be literally moronic OP PS2 graphics rival the gameboy advance.

>And even then I don't think the deck would eat into the switch audience.
It was never going to.
all their games are free on PC
do zoomers not know how to emulate?
Emulation is not as widespread or as popular as Ganker thinks it is/wants it to be.
Zoomers don't even know how to run an adblocker anon what makes you think they know how to emulate games

If it's not impressive than why haven't any later Playstations matched the heights of the ps2?
Because they weren't as popular and didn't have as good of a library? Because Sony's gaming department declined instead of improving?
