It's true though. There was some guy on t*****r yesterday that was actually very offended by a scene in persona 4 in which everyone was eating watermelon and the girls had their knees together while sitting and had smaller watermelon slices than the boys.
He wrote this whole cringy dialogue between the characters talking about why they give the girls smaller watermelon slices.
And the localizer is right, the writers didn't intend to offend anyone with their watermelon slices and girls sitting how girls normally do, and no one in Japan would think twice at this. It's not meant to be an offensive scene, but in America...

Just wanted to ask here, I remember seeing someone post about a Japanese dev who was originally "woke" and supporting this type of localization actually breaking and fighting with their translator on Twitter after the translator started bashing how Japanese media depicts women standing with their feet pointing inwards, because that's a cultural thing pushed by women in Japan, does anyone have caps or links to that?

There is a type of person called a malcontent. They have a constant, unrelenting psychological desire to cause drama just for the sake of attention even if it's negative attention towards them. They have always existed. And in today's society, you derive power from being seen as a victim. Combined with that grievances/"Social Justice" is an lucrative industry in of itself. So there are large groups of people who derive joy from creating shit like that picture and that this somehow "makes all women get seen as sex objects/as weak and get denied good careers" and this gets supported or even encouraged by organizations such as SBI or NAACP because this justifies their jobs.
This is why "progress" is never ending and social issues will never be "solved" because it would mean the lost of worthless multi-billion dollar industries and easy political campaigning.
Honestly, it's hard to tell criticism from satire anymore.

I learned japanese 15 years ago for this very reason. I work as a japanese/english translator at the factory I'm employed at and I haven't bought a localized game like this in that amount of time. I only play imported copies of japanese games. If it's not a direct translation it shouldn't allowed to be sold.
I started 9 years ago. It was painful getting rid of my massive English-translated manga, doujinshi and JRPG collection, but I couldn't stomach to read them like that.
Games are being pozzed even before the translation part. See the live a live remake. You are just wasting your time.
That's only Square and Capcom which have inhouse shitshow localization sections
