yeah the old devs are involved and the dev team are all white dudes. that being said, they've basically already confirmed they're going to make the shofixti less overtly racist and the syreen less sexualized. other than that, everything seems to be about the same. i don't mind it so long as they don't take it too far and make all the syreen fat or something. the syreen have a reason for wearing less clothing anyways, their planet is hotter than earth.
i mean, it could be funny if the syreen ended up in parkas after all.

Depends on how close you want it to be to the original, but if its Pistol Shrimp (which has the old devs onboard) there's a good chance it will be solid. Apparently this is from the prototype build for the Kickstarter on April 16th so that's neat. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt if for no other reason that the original was great for its time, and the oldgay devs A) allowing the best version of the game to go open source and B) basically supported it FOSS for 30 fricking years.

if you found a hypno-toad race that enslaved you for thousands of years and the only way to break yourself free was to subject yourself to horrific levels of pain you'd go both insane and incredibly xenophobic and that's pretty much what happened to the ur-quan. even before their enslavement, the ur-quan were very territorial predators who had a sort of natural hostility which they were only able to overcome because of the taalo.

Isn't the Ur Quan story just a retooled story of how the mind flayers enslaved the gith in AD&D 2e lore? Instead of the githyanki/githzerai it's the green/black Ur Quan and instead of mind flayers it's the dnyarri.
