We will never get adventurekino Zelda like this ever again. Now we're just supposed to frick around in a boring aimless sandbox and upload some physics jank video on social media instead.

Ocarina of Time is the most overrated game in existence
nah that's BotW
game is a 7/10 indie sandboxer at best and everyone treats it as though it's the best game of the previous decade or something. I want epic stories, sweeping soundtracks, and memorable dungeons again, not ubi-soft towers, cat-walking-on-a-piano soundtracks, and hundreds of single-puzzle shrines that all look identical.
nah it's really OoT
People that think the BoTW piano tracks are just random sounds don't know fricking dick about music. I agree with the shrines though. Give me dungeons.
it's fine for what it is, I just am not wild about minimalism. especially in a zelda game.
Nothing wrong with that, I just can't stand brainlets with no understanding of music calling it random.
True but that doesn't mean its not a great time. It's not a masterpiece but it is very fun
No it isn't. Like a lot of games you would only think so if you weren't there to experience the context it came out in. That era of gaming was a time when you would get hyped up for something and it would actually live up to it. Unthinkable these days.
I was there, I appreciate it's influence, but it is very overrated as a game.
>Saturn owner
over rated or not it influenced miyazaki so much that elden ring is the closest thing we'll ever get to an adult zelda game witn a nintendo like budget
It's nothing like Zelda, will you morons stop sucking ER's dick in every thread?
oot has a time travel element and the world changes as you progress
oot has npcs that move and have quests without quest markers or quest logs
oot has weapon variety like sword and sheild/ two handed sword/ hammer along side different type of arrows and requires you to understand enemy weaknesses to defeat them
multitude of items that can help you fight or help you in the world
it's pretty clear oot influenced miyazaki, they don't have to be identical to see that anon
All of these except time travel (not prominent in ER) are just basic b***h things you find in thousands of games.
er will have a time traveling aspect in the dlc; ds/sekiro/bloodborne all did
and those "basic b***h things" are seen in 1,000 of games because of oot; it was influential
also how can you rationalize a japanese game designer playing what was considered the best game ever made not to be influenced by it?
I know you're going to want to respond to the other reply, but don't. There's no talking to someone that doesn't think OoT is influential.
No that was the first Darksiders.
darksiders really did nail the get new item and use it to do the dungeon vibe; but the budget didn't really allow for polish or additional aspects like sound track
have a nice day homosexual
>wojak post
Opinion discarded.
Wojakposting is all you deserve, Black person.
A Zelda game in the vein of ocarina of time only with a more flexible approach is all I want. A link between worlds did this well on 2D, but the mainline 3D games have never done it. I want to have the option of approaching the temples and obtaining gear in a dark souls 1 / super metroid type way. Bring back the labyrinth esc feel of Zelda. Bring back the atmosphere. Bring back the music. Bring back the items / gear to unlock which in turn open the world up more. It's sad that we might never get something like this again
I like majora's mask more
OoT had garbage dungeons and gameplay, but I guess that's better than BotW having no dungeons. However OoT also has garbage combat so at least they're trying to fix that.
OOT literally invented the melee combat almost every 3D action game copies to this day.
no it didn't
>directional sword swings
>side-hopping and backflipping
>circle strafing
>switching between targets on the fly
>swapping between 1st and 3rd-person on the fly
Other games did these things individually first, but OoT was the first game to combine it all together in a way that felt smooth and natural.
You didn't even mention Lock-on Targeting which is probably OoT's biggest contribution to 3D games ever.
not what you claimed
name a single modern non-nintendo game whose combat is lifted directly from OoT
The entire Soulsborne franchise.
>name a single modern non-nintendo game whose combat is lifted directly from OoT
Demon's Souls and all its sequels.
The PS2 Prince of Persia games.
Darksiders
Not really, it was a mash of God of War combat with Zelda world and dungeon design.
what an ignorant take, you don't even play video games
I'm old enough to remember
>Wind Waker comes out
>We will never get a serious Zelda again
>Twilight Princess comes out
>We will never get an experimental Zelda again
>Skyward Sword comes out
>We will never get a Zelda without waggle again
>Ocarina 3D comes out
>We will never get a 2D Zelda again
none of those games sold bajillion copies like BotW did.
>Wind Waker comes out
>We will never get a serious Zelda again
This one is true though.
>Skyward Sword comes out
>We will never get a Zelda without waggle again
Nobody thought this. Basically everyone (correctly) predicted that wagglan would not outlast the Wii itself. It was still annoying though.
In any case these games are all more similar to each other than they are to BotW. It really is a dramatic departure from the traditional system of item-based progression and dungeons built around said items. Now it's just "here's some toys, do whatever, make sure you pick up every piece of litter you find for crafting."
Do you not remember that gen? People absolutely thought that. You had the wii selling shitloads, massive successs everywhere and on the 360 you had nothing but brown n' bloom garbage and other shit aimed at dudebros.
Many people genuinely thought games made for gamers was over. Several devs, including Nintendo, specifically said so. It was unbelievably dire, every game had like 5 hours of tutorial and was designed to have no challenge at all. This wasn't a genre - almost everything was like this. The sole reason Dark Souls 1 became popular at all was because it came out in this environment and a game being hard and not holding your hand was extremely rare - compared to DeS where that was still unremarkable.
The other notable thing about that gen is that AA pretty much died, taking whole genres with it. Indies hadn't really taken off yet so if you liked any genre that didn't have AAA appeal then too fricking bad, it's gone now. The huge rise of indies making stuff like platformers/cRPGs and throwback games in general was a response to this.
This is also when always online/pay to use your own online/DLC etc started too - again changing gaming forever for the worse.
That gen was fricking horrific and I distinctly remember also thinking gaming was basically fricking over.I genuinely feel bad for the kids who grew up on wiis/360s. Must have been so fricking shit and they wouldn't even have known better.
People were literally saying shit like that you deluded newbie.
i just want to have a real playable instrument in a zelda game again
I know, but that's okay. I'm going to go play some OoT, thanks OP.
>We will never get another Zelda game where you can play as both young link and adult link
I like both
Why the hell doesn't any other company make children fantasy adventure games like Zelda? There's obviously a niche to fill there.
The only recent game I can think of is Kena Bridge of Spirits, which looks like ass.
Zelda games rely on level design and puzzle-solving, and if you half-ass those the entire game falls apart. It's not as easy to phone it in.
For such a beloved series, there seems to be a real lack of Zelda-likes. The few that exist aren’t very good. The first Darksiders, Soul Reaver and 3D Dot Game Heroes are the only ones I remember enjoying. As that other anon said, it all comes down to level design, and most game devs these days just aren’t talented enough for that sort of thing. I sometimes wonder if even Nintendo’s current devs are capable of making classic Zelda dungeons anymore? Maybe BotW’s poor excuses for dungeons are all they’re capable of now.
BotW dungeons were great outside of all looking the game. You have to have awareness of the entire space and how the rooms relate to each other instead of just doing one self-contained puzzle per room
They had zero fun or identity outside of one minor gimmick. Also, the puzzles are so easily broken you can solve them the wrong way.
>Being able to come up with your own creative solutions to puzzles is bad
lol
That is creative, it is poorly designed. A lock that can easily be picked isn’t guarding anything.
>inb4 zelda goes the route of sonic, having tons of fangames
damn, I was hoping my indie startup releasing a proper adventure game next year would have room to breath. Oh well, competition breeds innovation.
There's Tunic. PLEASE play TUNIC, it's VERY good.
Tunic is inspired by the NES Zelda which Zelda "fans" don't actually enjoy.
I thought Tunic was more LttP adjacent.
I like TLoZ. It was my first Zelda game. That’s why it pisses me off when BotW zoomers compare their soulless ubisoft game to it. You just know not a single one of them has ever played TLoZ and are just parroting what one of their favorite streamers or youtubers said.
>Tunic
Oh yeah, I still need to play that. Thanks for reminding me.
It's called Fortnite and Minecraft, anon
what did we do to deserve this timeline? And the worst part is that the zoomer gays eat up this open world shiet like its actually good.
i just made this comment in the other thread
but they're going through a pattern of
Traditional > Open World > Traditional > Open World
LBW > BOTW > LA > BOTW2
Remakes dont count, homosexual
I’m hoping their next remake is the Oracle games. It’s the only Zelda related thing I’d still look forward to considering the sad state of this series.
>considering the sad state of this series
Tell me u a virgin widou tellin me u a virgin
>BotW2 comes out
>Only gets 8/10 because of Elden Ring
>They decide to go in a different direction because people are obviously tired of BotW by now
Just relax
I hope this happens but it will probably still get over 90 metascore and fanboys will eat it up untill the next game offers more of the same shit.
Freedom in games is unironically so fricking overrated, both Zelda and MGS fell for the same meme and became boring meandering shit.
Sorry you don't know how to make your own fun
If I wanted to make my own fun I wouldn't be playing a video game to begin with.
It's amazing how my opinion on open world design changed with all the slop modern devs keep throwing at us. I no longer see a game being linear as a bad thing.
Agreed, OP. I enjoyed every single mainline LoZ game except BotW. I'd like to believe we can make a return to the classic formula after everyone's had their fill of the open-world sandbox stuff, but that may be too optimistic. I guess there's still romhacks and randomizers.
Every game that wants to stand out and sell has to do the tired old sandbox, open world, crafting, looting and survival. As long as you put these in and dilute your game, the masses will eat it up. Even FROM finally succumbed to this madness.
I am choosing to be optimistic that there will still be dungeons and adventure goals, and that late game gear will look better than a rock on a stick.
Maybe, we could just kill everyone born between 1990-2009? Like maybe we could have this big war with another nuclear power and the 18-33 year olds could go die in it. Verification not required
85 gay here. If this brings back classic Zelda games then I’m all for it. We can just make a new, less homosexual generation afterwards.
That’s what I’m thinking too. Maybe even clear up some if this inflation and debt along the way. A nice big war.
Zoomers have shit taste
Which is why we need to send them to Russia. Maybe China too.
i still remember most of the songs in oot
song of storms
the farm song
the sisters song
the lost woods
honestly playing the ocarina, and the other instruments in mm, is what got me interested into learning instruments . it's a shame kids playing zelda now don't have that musical connection
OoT proves that aesthetic > gameplay
Let's be real, BotW has way better physics, combat, and puzzles. People only like OoT because dungeons have themes and atmosphere unlike beasts and shrines.
Should I replay OoT?
i do it every year
Nice
I have replayed it a few times but it's been a good few years now. I think it is time, especially before TOTK
aging in the temple of time and seeing the world change, or having the moon fall and traveling back in time and seeing act like nothing happened are such intense emotions botw doesn't have a single moment close to that
I wouldnt be surprised if the next big zelda does a lot with sand and sand physics, which could be cool in a lawrence of arabia kind of way. Big towers, dungeons filling with sand, big pyramids appearing out of sandstorms.
It seems to be the way they are heading, windwaker was cell shading, unifying the brand look, and water travel, latest zelda is open world and air, almost being comfortable falling from insanely high distances, gliding, building flying machines.
Sand is next, eventually. Sandsurfing too, hopefully.
Literally two games on a 3 decades franchise and Ganker starts with
>oooo we'll never get again
OP, you're addicted for Ganker attetion, just stop.
>add rando
>game becomes even more kino
I have 3 problems with modern zelda.
First is lack of any challenge after 5 hours in game even in master mode. I get bored with easy games and can’t enjoy them. Shrines are way too easy as well.
Second is lack of good rewards. Armor is very limited and most sucks compared to easily obtainable knight armor. Weapon rewards are useless because of durability.
Third is absolutely garbage tier quests. They had all the tools to make cool quests, but still made 95% of them boring fetch shit.
>Armor is very limited and most sucks compared to easily obtainable knight armor
Min maxing moron or just like the aesthetic?
On master mode I get one shotted if I don’t wear it, I don’t even have a choice there
Just don't get hit lol
Fair enough.
Everyone complains about the weapon durability but the answer to making the game more fun is that Link needs even less health and the armor should break too. All the un-fun elements of this game come from the fact that you can too easily reach a level where nothing is a threat to you.
sticks and clubs and the like should break
but a sword an iron sword or shield breaking is so dumb. Just let me sell it for dosh like every other game
And then you just use food endlessly like you do at the start or speed runs. Fujibayashi essentially made diarrhea “art” when making the game and called it a sandbox.
food should be like a flask, like you have to use them in real time
I don’t mind durability, i just think game lacks cool rewards for quests/shrines/difficult battles. I agree, game was better on plateau where you don’t have glider and don’t have too much health yet. If I was main game designer I would nerf glider and climbing and cut hp scaling.
The Citizen Kane of 3D games
probably nintendo will revise the formula after TOTK
nintendo seems to like doing roughly similar zelda games as pairs
zelda3/link's awakening
OOT/MM
WW/minish (ok it's a stretch here, and minish isn't even a proper mainline game, but the art style is the same)
phantom/spirit
TP/SS
botw/totk
I would have rather just had botw+dungeons+skylands+underground+no durability+no crafting+no vehicles
I get the feeling that you've never played OoT or BotW.
No he’s spot on. BotW is empty and thoughtless. Even the member berries are rotten and half eaten.
yeah if he did he’d call them both garbage
>Gameplay demo for TotK didn't show every new piece of content in the game
>So Ganker is now taking the opportunity to retroactively pretend like BotW was the worst game ever and TotK is going to have nothing to do but be gmod but Zelda
You're all gonna look really stupid once the game releases and it has all the content you're convincing yourselves it doesn't have.
this game is so good it makes me want to suck my own dick
this is the thread i would make if i wanted to bait people
Just play a different game. Fricking hell.
>abloo bloo Zelda isn't the exact thing I want it to be, and I will cry about this for another 20 years
Play Okami, Beyond Good and Evil, Darksiders, Fable, Legacy of Kain...
Shut the frick up.
