the flying Gyarados pissed me off to no end. maybe it flew in the anime but it looks so stupid doing it in PLA. I'm not saying I want it to stop being Flying type, but in my head it was always just Flying for the "storm" aspect and not bc it actually was airborne
Wrong. >Umbreon terastallized into Poison type! >toxicroak used close combat! It’s not very effective… >umbreln used synchronoise! It’s super effective! Toxicroak fainted! >*opponent disconnected*
Wrong. >Umbreon terastallized into Poison type! >toxicroak used close combat! It’s not very effective… >umbreln used synchronoise! It’s super effective! Toxicroak fainted! >*opponent disconnected*
Synchronoise and Soak were introduced in the same generation.
Makes you think.
That's a common misconception. Another common misconception is that Flareon is the only Fire-type that can't learn it. The Fire-type Pokemon that can't learn Solar Beam are >Flareon >Incineroar >Cinderace >Ceruledge >Alolan Marowak >Heat Rotom >Salazzle >Chi-Yu
To be fair, at the time Ariel Needs Legs released the only other fire type on that list that existed was Heat Rotom and I don't think Neil was aware of the type change.
It doesn't really count anyway. Rotom is not a fully evolved fire type Pokémon. It can just become a fire type as a form, it doesn't change its learnset at all.
I noticed that not only Entei but Suicune and Raikou learn it as well
Sure, Suicune can be due water type and Raikou due Thunder, but my headcanon is that they all can learn it to protect other pokemon from a possible fire so they don't get the same fate as them
>Close to an eruption there is a huge impact as the volcano releases moisture, ash, and gases into the atmosphere. Within the volcanic plume, electrical charges can build to trigger lightning and the aerosols can seed rain. Volcanoes can even produce "mud rain" if the conditions are right.
I'm also a fan of times where Pokemon don't get moves that actually make sense on them. A lot of these are bc of the original Japanese name meaning something else, but still. Lickitung didn't have Lick in Gen 1 for example
Misleading, it learns it in every gen except 9. The reason it doesn't get it in 9 is because it doesn't get through level up and Dream Eater isn't a TM or Move Tutor move in gen 9. Which is still a bit weird but yeah.
Where to even begin. I was actually thinking about saying Earthquake, U-Turn, or Stone Edge but this is the absolute riot for what things can learn it. Seriously, almost none of them make sense it is literally "we know this move is broken so we shoved it arbitrarily on things that would be broken with it" just like how fricking Toxic used to be
>"we know this move is broken so we shoved it arbitrarily on things that would be broken with it"
It's not broken in vgc, and that's the only format they care about.
They why did they bother putting it on Blissey? If they didn't care about singles and how strong mons like it are with SR they'd just keep its distribution to rock-types.
I never understood why Typhlosion learnt extra sensory as an egg move. It's not psychic, it has nothing to do with volcanoes, and it was the only non fire special it learnt together with solar beam and focus blast (and shadow ball in gen IX).
It's possible, they gave it to Typhlosion in HGSS. Still, it's pretty random. They could have given it thunder(bolt) as a replacement for thunderpunch, instead.
A lot of Gen 2 Pokemon seem to get that, Noctowl, Stantler, Togepi (the free togepi has it as a default move), the beasts. >Thunderbolt
would have made sense, but they didn't want Typhlosion to be able to OHKO their precious CHARIZARD.
Gen 1 Pokémon generally get scuffed move distribution, my favourite is Primeape learning Thunder
Iron Valiant can learn Skill Swap, but it has Quark Drive, this move always fails
>Skill swap quark drive with huge power
Now what?
Quark Drive and Protosyntesis cannot be removed/swapped by any of the moves that allow to do so with other abilities.
Futureproofing for when they give every paradox mon a hidden ability in the second wave of DLC.
If they had hidden abilities they would have been leaked long ago.
>datamining the second wave of DLC
>which hasn't even been announced yet
Nice try, anon.
It always bothered how so many things can learn rain dance / sunny day.
Makes sense since she's the volcano Pokémon.
>genderless
It's they/them, sweaty.
he's a coomer just ignore his posts
It's gender unknown so he could be right thoughever
No such a word has ever been used in pokemon. The ones without a specified sex are sex unknown. that doesnt mean they are trannies, troony.
he*
Pokemon that can learn Ice Beam that have no reason to
>Rattata
>Tauros
>Marowak
>Miltank
>Gulpin
>Shieldon
>Lopunny
>Sigilyph
>Golurk
>Obstagoon
Ice Beam was the signature move of Dawn's Buneary in the anime, so that was acknowledged.
>Rattata
>Tauros
>Miltank
>Lopunny
>Obstagoon
I think that's just the normal type's gimmick of being able to learn a lot of moves.
Carbink can learn Heavy Slam even though it's only 12.6 lbs
Flapple can as well, and is even lighter (2.2lbs), it's the lightest heavy slam user
>pikachu can learn fly
>gyarados cant
>Gyarados can't learn Fly
>Yet they have it Flying around the sky in PLA
the flying Gyarados pissed me off to no end. maybe it flew in the anime but it looks so stupid doing it in PLA. I'm not saying I want it to stop being Flying type, but in my head it was always just Flying for the "storm" aspect and not bc it actually was airborne
It's literally based on a kite.
>kite pokemon
>can't learn tailwind
forgot when they cut it down but pretty much 90% of all pokemon being able to learn toxic
Attract Cryogonal which always fails
What is signal beam? Why is it a bug move? Why do so many random Pokemon learn it?
Slaking can learn Solarbeam, but Truant prevents the move from going off
It was originally only learned by Volbeat, so presumably it's like a firefly light
Next showderp thread, suggest power herb solar beam slaking
Shining a light that attracts mates
Delphox can learn Rain Dance, Grass knot, thunder punch and focust blast
Being a RPG witch/wizard she has a free pass, ..... still can't learn an ice attack, where is my Cone of Cold, GF!
Eevee can get synchronoise as an egg move. So if the eevee evolves into umbraon, it will always fail.
Wrong.
>Umbreon terastallized into Poison type!
>toxicroak used close combat! It’s not very effective…
>umbreln used synchronoise! It’s super effective! Toxicroak fainted!
>*opponent disconnected*
synchronoise was cut before tera was added
Synchronoise and Soak were introduced in the same generation.
Makes you think.
Tyranitar can learn sunny day and rain dance.
Mr. Mime used to be able to learn Infestation
>here's my impersonation of being attacked by bugs
>OW OW OW OW
There are only 3 Bug types that can learn Fly, and none of them are Bug/Flying.
Uhh... Salamence, Gyarados and Volcarona?
stroke post
Rayquaza being able to learn Dive. It also seemingly uses Dig in its Brawl boss, but that's not a move it was ever able to learn.
Knew about Genesect and Volcarona already, wasn't aware that Vikavolt learned it though
Volcarona and Genesect I know. I looked up the third, but I won't post it.
Thank you for not posting it, I looked it up and exclaimed the Pokemon's name out loud, what the heck.
Zubat can learn Mean Look despite having no eyes.
He could be taught Ice Punch
and powerup punch and dynamicpunch
Final Gambit Shedinja
Never forget Attract Cryogonal.
Emboar and Scald
>hot water
actually I find weird why more fire types cant learn scald
mizu puriforiju
prease undastan
Not quite sure why Machamp can learn Flamethrower and Fire Blast
Gen 1 Pokémon generally get scuffed move distribution, my favourite is Primeape learning Thunder
Houndoom got Solar Beam.
Mega Houndoom has Solar Power so it's consistent at least.
It got Solar Beam as early as Gen 3, and hellhounds have nothing to do with the sun
Just the opposite, actually
2, even. I remember a Pokemon Stadium 2 puzzle battle from Earl's Academy that taught you to Exploit weather effects with an SD + Solar beam Houndoom.
Every fire type learns it, or am I wrong
That's a common misconception. Another common misconception is that Flareon is the only Fire-type that can't learn it. The Fire-type Pokemon that can't learn Solar Beam are
>Flareon
>Incineroar
>Cinderace
>Ceruledge
>Alolan Marowak
>Heat Rotom
>Salazzle
>Chi-Yu
Well that's an extremely small number compared to the total. Rotom is also a fake fire type
It's only a fake Fire-type until gen 5, where it changed types from Electric/Ghost to Electric/Fire, becoming a real Fire-type.
those are all pretty nugen, it's not surprising that people might repeat it if their pokemon experience is a decade old
Marowak
>>Heat Rotom
>>Chi-Yu
All non-gen1 pokemon which is what that trivia is explicitly about moron.
To be fair, at the time Ariel Needs Legs released the only other fire type on that list that existed was Heat Rotom and I don't think Neil was aware of the type change.
It doesn't really count anyway. Rotom is not a fully evolved fire type Pokémon. It can just become a fire type as a form, it doesn't change its learnset at all.
so mostly physical attackers and a multitype mon.
In Gen III, the relative list of Fire Pokemon with Solar Beam is smaller than you can imagine.
FRICK YOU
>EQ
>Has DD despite not learning it to Lv40
>Is evolved despite not evolving til Lv35
Scald Emboar
anon....
And before anyone complains, that's the joke, a pig taking revenge for his fallen brothers.
Did you guys know Seviper CAN'T learn Cut?
Neither can Zangoose.
So basically precum?
Who can forget Beeheeyem getting Steel Wing?
I'm also a fan of times where Pokemon don't get moves that actually make sense on them. A lot of these are bc of the original Japanese name meaning something else, but still. Lickitung didn't have Lick in Gen 1 for example
>Who can forget Beeheeyem getting Steel Wing?
That was just a bug, they solved it many games ago
>If you think that you had a good dream, but you can't remember it, a Drowzee has probably eaten it.
Misleading, it learns it in every gen except 9. The reason it doesn't get it in 9 is because it doesn't get through level up and Dream Eater isn't a TM or Move Tutor move in gen 9. Which is still a bit weird but yeah.
what the frick
frick this franchise
yeah I think I've outgrown it
rather poorly designed to an adult's discerning mind
Togekiss learning Extreme Speed feels thematically weird. It's just a fat bird.
it's a jet
Staraptor learns Struggle Bug
I never understood why Typhlosion learnt extra sensory as an egg move. It's not psychic, it has nothing to do with volcanoes, and it was the only non fire special it learnt together with solar beam and focus blast (and shadow ball in gen IX).
It always felt like pity coverage to me
It's possible, they gave it to Typhlosion in HGSS.
GenWun Privilege
Venomoth learning zen headbutt by level-up
butterfly/moth pokemon learning a bunch of psychic moves in general counts
yeah
also,
bugs and baton pass
Kingambit can learn Grass Knot
Ninja traps?
A lot of unexpected mons in gen 1 can learn Teleport.
