>no nintendo
what is the fricking point of reviving this garbage?
Nintendo found no negative from not attending at all for the past 3 years so they just see it as a money sink now.
E3 shot themselves in the foot for over reacting to the cold.
No way you could have had an event like e3 in the middle of covid, you would end up with it being a superspreder event and that's nit a good look for e3.
1.3 million Americans died of covid.
Read: All-Cause Mortality during the peak of the pandemic was 1.3 million deaths higher compared to previous periods.
You know how they get that figure? They IGNORE the cause of death and just count bodies. And just counting the dead bodies, SOMETHING killed 1.3 million extra Americans during the pandemic. And that's with a sharp decline in motor vehicle accidents and violent crime on the streets because people were staying home.
That's not "the cold". That's a big deal. The elites just wanted lots of uneducated morons to die to control the population.
No.
E3 was cancelled in full.

This is bad because E3 always forced Nintendo to show new stuff. Now we are down to just 2 Directs a year. This is giving them free reign to just do dick all for all of summer.
>This is bad because E3 always forced Nintendo to show new stuff
Too bad, a cough made E3 shut down for three years and Nintendo knows they don't need it anymore.
Then they should make a 3rd direct for the summer for the megaton drops. Otherwise you're just defending Nintendo for have zero transparency with fans. I want to know what fricking games are coming out for my system that I oaid money for, otherwise I'll just stop caring and pirate shit.
Transparency costs money. Nintendo is trying to see just how little money they can put into marketing before it starts negatively affecting them. Apparently, they haven't found the limit yet.
That's implying that I'd want to go to California, pay whatever exorbitant fee to get into E3, hope they announce a game I'd be excited for, hope that they have a playable demo, wait in line for three hours to play said demo for five minutes, all while surrounded by a nightmare of noise and lights and corporate homosexualry.
No. It let's journos, retailers, and select elites play demos. E3 was a product of an Era where the industry was niche and you needed to build interest at an event because otherwise they might not stock your game. These days retail companies just stock whatever major publishers want them to.
it's an old dinosaur that Nintendo Directs proved should have been taken to pasture years ago and 'rona basically forced everyone else's hand to realize it
E3 having an event changes nothing whether it happens or not. Big publishers do not need help with promotion anymore, there's nothing E3 can give that Twitter doesn't.
>full of pre-rendered "gameplay trailers" and other lies >allways cringe as frick >fake hype for normies and blue haired morons who dont even play the games and for youtubers to make reaction videos doing moronic faces >a known place that makes into the news for "the industry" to show how woke they are and for they to push their bullshit
So its both good and bad, is bad for the industry on the PR side, its good on the business side because reduce costs at not making anything.
As for the consoomers dosent change anything because they will still buy and eat the goyslop.
I consider it a virtue for no other reason than because it's a vestige of the AAA gaming industry, and everything about AAA gaming needs to die in the ass.
This. It really won't matter for platform holders, but was good for fans.
People love to hate on it because how cringe presentations can be, but it was still always fun to laugh at together.
Now you'll get the same type of thing only completely random where they send out a tweet "please tune in to our PlayStation Nintendo Microsoft stream direct tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM!" Instead of having a big yearly event to enjoy as a community.
(At least there's the game awards but those are even more embarrassing than E3 ever was...)
Do you guys think modern kids can sense civilization is collapsing and every year gets worse or is it only something people from the 80s, 90s, etc. see?
Everyone thinks their shit generation was the best time ever when they were kids. Baby boomers thought the world was going to end in 2000 while kids in 2000 were having the time of their lives.

Even returning to 2019 would be nice at this point. And to think I thought the world had gone to shit then. One thing is certain, it's only going to get worse.
This doesn't actually contradict the premise that life has been getting steadily worse over the last seventy years. Of course boomers are going to think they had it better if they literally did have it better.
E3 has been shit since like 2013, it should have died a long time ago.
It does however suck for us because it means there'll be less cringeworthy shit for us to laugh at, but the amount of actually funny cringe peaked between 2008 and 2014, and for the last 8 or 9 years it's just been more soulless, corporate shit than anything else.
Ehh, TGAs is too corporate, too many commercials and fake moments to really compete with the cringeworthy shit we got back in the late 2000s/early 2010s.
If not for that Bill Clinton shit last year that would have been the worst TGAs since the Spike TV days.
It's been horrendous for the industry, but publishers don't want to admit that pre-orders have been down across the board.
The average person has no interest in Gamescom nor Geoff's failed E3 called Summer Game Fest. So as a result, the previews for games are released at different times, and the total viewership is massively down.
Was E3 horrid? Of course, their corruption hurt everyone from AAA to indie developers with their Microsoft/Sony moneyhatting. When they demanded that Nintendo show real games instead of children's games, Nintendo left, then other developers left, somehow thinking their fanbase was as deranged as Nintendo's is. That's when things started going wrong for the industry.
It was convenient for the consumer because it was ALL the important news at once in multi-hour shows so you were guaranteed to see something interesting.
Bad. Having one big event with every game was a huge plus to promotion. Yes it's true that Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo can all massively promote all they want independently. But you lose that chance of catching someone who might not have been interested in your stuff before. You also miss the chance of getting, say, an Xbox owner to tune into Sony's E3 press conference out of curiosity, because now it's not all one big event anymore and they're already not paying specific separate attention to Sony, but they might pay attention to one big event like E3.
It's also just disappointing for people like me who enjoyed watching E3 every year. Even when it was shit, and the past few years especially were mostly shit when it wasn't just cancelled, it was fun just to laugh at cringe. E3 fail montages were a cornerstone of the wider gaming community, not just specifically Nintendo fans or PlayStation fans. Even if it was kinda ass, the loss of the E3 tradition is a huge loss for gaming as a community, symbolic of its homogenized absorption into the "content" vortex.
this. I watched e3 every year since like 2005. Lots of lesser known studios generated hype and got large investments. I think Microsoft bought MDHR based on the reaction everyone had to a 1 second click of Cuphead in an indie game montage. And I never would have heard of Quatumn Connundrum if I hadn't seen Kim Swift getting interviewed about it at E3 on G4.
>symbolic of its homogenized absorption into the "content" vortex.
This is a problem that will inevitably be solved only by returning to live events. People crave community and ritual that social media is incapable of providing.
This anon gets it. Watching Microsoft/EA's lefty political cringe and dudebro games, then Sony's/Square Enix's failing at making loved IPs look interesting, then bring it on home with Nintendo showcasing actually fun games.
It make for some nice couple of comfy days and plenty for Ganker to discuss.
From a consumer perspective it is absolutely good.
It used to be fun and most of the time they would show people playing the game on stage, like a whole level. E3 2009 they did an entire MW2 mission, but lately it was nothing but short per-rendered previews made to appease share-holders.
don't think it matters. most of the target demographic either only plays 1 game or only plays games that their favorite streamer plays so they have no clue what is coming out anyways.
We do not need games media or games journalism anymore. Devs can talk directly to their audiences over Twitter. Reviews are better handled by userscores and Youtube essays. Most games also evolve over time with regular updates and DLC, making reviews pointless.
Good, because E3 is old-school advertising propped up by a lie: that we need that sort of thing in the internet era. We're long past the days when journalists had to do actual legwork to get news and see cool stuff to report back for the masses, and the sooner the old-style media events die, the sooner companies will just put the trailers and shit on their own website or youtube channel whatever and consumers can browse the info at their leisure, which is the obvious future that they are avoiding kicking and screaming because they want to control the timing of ads as much as possible and manufacture hype.
It's the same reason awards shows are dying. Why watch 3 hours of celebrities in designer gowns and tuxedos, lecture about your white privilege and how you're killing the environment, while they fly in private jets back to their all-white neighborhoods, when you can get the results instantly from scrolling Twitter?
It's literally an event for old pedo billionaires assistants to watch and see which company is getting the most searches/viralness during it. Then they buy stock in that company because they're moronic and using corrupt money to be thrown anywhere.
That's all e3 is. For companies to get people to buy stock. Hence all the bullshit cgi trailers to hype moronic normies to start sperging out and constantly googling them.
It's evidence that the industry has irrevocably changed due to a large number of factors
Take Hi-Fi Rush, shadowdropped on the day of its announcement and it blew up like crazy simply due to the instantaneous accessibility of social media, imagine the Saturn release if they'd had access to this kind of communication back then. We're at a point where general games journalism is worse simply because you don't NEED it anymore, anything you want to know about anything is at the tip of your finger whenever you want it through Twitter or Reddit or whatever news article gets shoved at you via Google and what's left is a bunch of shlock and hateclick articles written by people that could give less of a shit as long as they're making a buck
>people talking about it and seriously considering it a GOTY contender in fricking January >matching if not outselling a Triple-A game marketed for a long fricking time in the same release window >doing this with no prior manufactured hype on a day-1 shadowdrop
yes it blew up
Good. No more cringe shows full of plants. It definitely was a good things years ago though, as the internet was still getting off the ground and it helped everyone to have a week to show off their games. As others have said, it serves no purpose anymore with things like Nintendo Direct. So long as everyone has a show in June as normal, nothing really changes.
>it serves no purpose anymore with things like Nintendo Direct. So long as everyone has a show in June as normal, nothing really changes
But without E3 and the expectations tied to it to force their hand, they don't. So everything changes.
hype culture around e3 ruined gaming industry more than anything in the last 10 years.
remember when sony "won" e3 in 2015?
they won e3 by >showing remake of a 20 year old game that wasn't released until 2020 and that was only part 1. It's 2023 and we're not even close to getting part 2, they will probably still won't be over with this "remake" in 2030 >announcing the release of the last guardian, a game that everyone forgot a day after it came out >announce a FRICKING KICKSTARTER page for Shenmue 3. But that's okay cause it's Shenmue 3. Oh and that also fricking sucked when it eventually came out
Neither net gain nor loss. They overhype a lot of shit with it so at least we won't get that anymore, and some of the presentations are always trying to garner "new audiences" take a wild guess who they would be this year.
It's bad for gaming culture as a whole. E3 was the only time when everyone got together for one big event. So many legendary moments in gaming history happened at e3. The video game industry would not be what it is without an event like E3. It died a natural death because it's not needed anymore but it was a good thing for the culture of video games and will be missed.
>It's bad for gaming culture as a whole.
It's not man, come on. Gaming culture has already changed without E3. E3 has been stagnant and couldn't adapt to the times. They were fricked over by gaming trends like streaming to make them irrelevant. Covid was like the nail in the coffin
It died a natural death but it was still a great thing for the video game industry and the fact the industry has moved past the point where it needs e3 is really sad.
>3 has been stagnant and couldn't adapt to the times.
And neither could anything not-E3, because anything that has come in its place has been distinctly inferior.
Geoff knew what the frick he was doing with the Game Awards. The dude shilled and made the stream accessible to literally every fricking streaming service imaginable and fricking hyped that fricking shit up hard though. E3 does nothing.
>Geoff knew what the frick he was doing with the Game Awards.
And yet the Game Awards, even as the closest thing to E3 that isn't E3, still has far fewer games shown and games shown less in-depth than E3. Frick the lack of an actual show floor alone is a huge detriment.
The Game Awards can be cool, but it's not even the same kind of advertising.
At the game awards you mostly see the industry's big players (smaller studios are also relatively ignored at the game awards versus e3) try to show off one big hit each, with some of Keighley's indie darlings interspersed between, and then that's kind of it.
It's not like E3 that has all the publishers make a broad marketing catalogue to represent the broad future of their publishing. With whatever games big and small that they've got coming, alongside live demos of said products.
Yes of fricking course it's been exciting when the big hits have been revealed at the game awards. But how in the world can you unironically make the claim that E3 does nothing while arguing in the favour of the game awards?
Anonymous
that is because the game awards is an awards show first and foremost. it is similar to mama, the big awards show in kpop. only the big companies get the limelight as they get all that awards
E3 is just a thing of the past. Every company can promote their own games on their own social media platforms, and even with paid promoting, it would be much cheaper than attending E3 where you also have to compete with every other company there.
pretty much and honestly TGA itself already feels too much "content" anyways. It all feels out of date, if the doritos guy turns it into some kind of festival instead of just a meme awards show that would bring it back
The previous TGA will be the last one I ever watch because some of the big names who showed up will certainly never be there again for their own safety, no matter what Geoff does to avoid another Bill Clinton kid
Good. PlayStation has always been better off doing their PlayStation Showcases whenever their 1st parties are ready. Exact the same for Nintendo. Summer Game Fest and E3 are just a waste of money for publishers nowadays. If you think this is a very lazy statement. well, the lazy and unsupportive ones are the ESA. They haven't done jackshit to make E3 more secure and inviting. They treated press like it's useless and most importantly they leaked the data of all press.
Yeah, frick E3.
>Nintendo Direct >State of Play >Developer Direct
Wow, can't imagine why they're not inclined to bother. E3 was fricked the instant Nintendo put out its first Direct. Writing's been on the wall for years.
They might have been able to pull them back in eventually, but they waited too many years to come back from covid and now nobody needs their infrastructure anymore
Honestly, this was going to happen even without covid. They can literally just put out a compilation video of upcoming games. Surprised E3 keeps desperately trying to stay relevant. It's been way past time to just leave it.
Its true that none of the big three actually need E3 anymore. But that one time of the year always marked a celebration of gaming where everyone would come together in excitement and anticipation.
>E3 without any of the console manufacturers there
What's the point? That's like making a movie sequel with none of the original actors or writers, but without even replacing them.
This. Now Sony and MS are starting to see how much better is that format of spreading new games and trailers. E3 will be only for 3rd party multiplats.
For viewers having that one big event was a great thing
It brought the community together and everyone could raise their awareness of gaming in one go.
so they didn't change the story at all because they paid a lot of money for an overrated actor and wanted to get their moneys worth? is that what you're saying?
are you being intentionally obtuse or are you just moronic?

His ass. Remember that 45min gameplay trailer? It was fake.
I miss E3 so much. It was nice to get all the big news in just one week. Nowadays we get dozens of single showcases through the year with most of them being underwhelming as hell.
What they would do is have one new game announcement while having new trailers for the handful games they announced in the prior 3-4 years. Or they would do a giant smoke and mirrors presentation full of hype multiplats and shit that wouldn't be released for years and then everyone would start saying they "won" E3, like they did in 2015 where they announced FF7R a multiplat that wouldn't be released for another 5 years, and a trailer for a kickstarter campaign for Shenmue 3 which was also multiplat.
Fricking Nintendo, they had to go ahead and ruin it for everyone. Can't commend them for being ahead of the curve with Directs when it denied us our live conference kino.
>You will never get hyped for a full week of gaming news again. >You will never watch a presentation with on stage demos ever again. >It's all 60 second adverts with fake and gay CG bullshit and no in game footage. >That and lame self mastabatory dev diaries with 3 seconds of a cg model shown at some point.
It's over.
This was always going to happen when Nintendo figured out the meta. It's a hell of a lot less risky to make a video of announcements beforehand and have it edited rather than have your executives go onstage and risk a fricking disaster like Sony 2006, Nintendo 2008, or Microsoft 2013.
but only japs are bad at presentation
In the west can look at that no mans sky guy, he's a complete wreck of a presenter but he still did it and got trough it.
Did you not actually see any of those conferences I mentioned? Those had mostly westerners in them and they were the absolute laughingstock of the industry.
They're not really the same goofiness as japs live.
Xbox goofiness was 50% from pre-made videos, just the director of the effort was insane and out of touch.
Can we stop pretending we had an actual E3 the last few years?
Frick 9/10 trailers didnt show gameplay and most of what they showed looked like ass anyway.
that's like saying that because you aren't a kid anymore and don't get col expensive gifts for christmas anymore that christmas should just not be celebrated anymore.
E3 has largely suffered from an identity crisis in the last decade or so. It's meant to be a trade show -- and you can debate how good it is at being that -- but started to veer off into being a marketing event or even a fanfest. I remember when the losers are NeoGAF (at a time before EvilLore got cancelled and ResetERA existed) where they were whinging about how they were denied entry and it's like "Why would forum moderators be at a fricking trade show?"
You can see how badly it's gone off the rails when people say things like "Nintendo hasn't been at E3 for ages; they do Directs." This in spite of the fact that Nintendo has usually had the largest booth on the show floor. But people equate E3 with the press conferences, the marketing direct to consumers.
Go back and watch some of the original E3s -- which remember, spawned from video games being treated as a joke at CES events -- and look at how they are presented. Look at CES (pic related) -- itself having its own issues with people dropping it and bringing into the question the value of trade shows in 2023 the year of our Lord -- and compare it to the fricking theme park that E3 looks like. Is all of that necessary to say to some Wal-Mart buyers: "Hey, we've got some kick ass games coming out, and we think you should order a bunch of stock. Come play it and see for yourself"?
Let E3 as people perceive it die, and let it go back to what it should be.
>3.77 MB > E3 has largely suffered from an identity crisis in the last decade or so. It's meant to be a trade show -- and you can debate how good it is at being that -- but started to veer off into being a marketing event or even a fanfest.
Bingo.
What were some of the most embarrassing E3 moments from the last few years? I remember Square Enix showing the beginning of Life is Strange 2 (already extremely embarrassing) with a compilation of e-celebs reacting to it for some reason.
The white guy playing the flute at the Ghost of Tsushima presentation, but it was less the performance and more twitter going apeshit trying to shit on the guy.
it encapsulates the cultural zeitgeist perfectly tho >sony wants to highlight a lost art and hires the one guy who is good with an instrument >the japs obviously like it >the evil devils of moloch worshippers pop in and start spilling vitriol because the algorithm in their brain tells them this is a good way to get serotonin
and the rest is history
That hasn't been the point of E3 since like 2010.
The point of E3 for the last decade has been to laugh at Ubisoft's embarrassing conferences, cringe at corporations trying to be #hip, and roll your eyes when they trod out the mouthpieces for typical mouthpiece shit.
I can't think of any legitimate reason to watch these cancerous shows nowadays.
You could just wait a day and see all the announcements later.
For me, gameplay is king, so I can't get behind all these dumb shows where they just show some fricking CGI trailer that means nothing and shows me nothing.
Surely you understand that gameplay can't be shown until the game's fairly late in production. Nintendo always showed gameplay because they'd announce a game and then release it the next month.
>Surely you understand that gameplay can't be shown until the game's fairly late in production.
Right, so why would I bother watching a show to see a CGI trailer of a game that won't be releasing for 3-4 years and even if it does may not even end up being the game shown off in the trailer?
Or worse, may end up getting canned entirely?
The only thing that would make me care besides shitting on the shows here on Ganker would be actual gameplay.
E3 seemed something larger than life, while game awards (mundane name) is this geoff show where you expect geoffs face all the time and his frend kojimbo to pop up.
>Only 3rd party publishers showing their games nobody gives a shit about >Summer Games Fest has been garbage >No hope for gamescom either >Directs from Nintendo have been tolerable but not amazing while the other company's directs have been insufferable
Looking like I'm gonna have to fall on my backlog and romhacks again like last year and the year before until Pikmin 4. I got enough to last me a decade anyway.
So how do people who aren't on social media 24/7 get their video game news nowadays? I liked being able to pop into E3 once a year to check out what's coming. Not just sit every day waiting for announcements.
I basically get most of it via email. Most publishers will send stuff out. And EA will sell your email address to other people, too, so you get spammed by FIFA. Yes, yes, I know it was my dumbass fault for checking that box.
Life is pretty refreshing when you get off the 24/7 hypetrain, too.
I mean, like, a yearly, maybe monthly event that just recaps all the games that came out or got announced. If I come to Ganker once every month I've missed like 5 games that came, went and fell out of favor.
>So how do people who aren't on social media 24/7 get their video game news nowadays?
pretty much just Ganker. the news/updates thing on steam when devs say something on games i purchased.
I think the E3 woke corruption happens gradually, first someone highlights a social issue they should talk about to appeal or avoid criticism for not including it.
Then next year they go "we already are this woke, lets add on top"
And eventually just start getting trannies show up and awards for social impact
you have no leadership that knows what to do to to fix things and eventually people just fricking hate your show and the only way forward is to crash the whole thing and sprout a new show with different people who have slightly better idea of what Not to do to keep corruption at bay for a while
So we had e3 die, and geoffs show get the spot instead.
2020 everyone had a "not" e3 digital event around the usual time, 2021 it was back under the e3 banner, then last year they gave up and did nothing/companies just did whatever. This article implies it's coming back "for real" but the big boys are pulling out.
>Isn't that an award show?
Yes, but if all you care about are announcements than TGA has been E3 in all but name for the last few years now. It's basically just Geoff showing trailer after trailer with awards in-between.
We have a winner. If not the cause definitely a sign. It was a red flag that the industry had capitulated. Nobody talks about the women who were put out of work thanks to these changes.
What went wrong bros? Back then it was simple. All studios, all announcements.
One week.
Now it's nothing. And one little teaser once a week, and then another next week, and they're all hidden behind memes and other videos so you don't know what the dick got announced. Webm related..
capitalism and socialism are both marxist systems. one simply splits the authoritarian class into government and corporations, while the other drops the pretense that they're different entities. they're two sides of the same shekel.
Man when was that one e3 with the fricking Wii music shit?
I've been watching it since before that year.
Must've been 15 years ago I bet. Godamn I'm getting old.
How is it not dead yet
It is been completely replaced already by digital publisher/console manufacturer events. There was a time and place for e3 but 2023 and beyond isn't it. This is like getting excited for a magazine any time after 1999
It's just the death of a brand. There will still be early summer showcases all clustered around each other. It just won't be called E3. There's just no need for a bunch of journalists huddled into a convention center anymore.
There's always a direct in February or March, but usually in February. Didn't some insider say the showcase got canceled because they were afraid it would affect their Microsoft monopoly argument?
I think it's creepy that so many people like this anon here suggest to look up porn just for wanting to see a little bit of sexiness. Not everything revolves around porn you morons. Liking to see attractive things doesn't mean masturbation you in-denial coomers. You can fricking look at sexy things without jerking off.
People shit on E3 and it was definitely getting worse but me and my bros LOVED watching it and would get togeather every presentaion to watch all the presentaions Its was a fun week. The game awards have replaced it but we used to have E3 and the game awards so its still a loss
The best and most memorable parts of e3 were the cringe kino. Konami's legendary e3 presentation was more entertaining than any of the actual games they showed.
Imagine if E3 had kept its early philosophy of being a big videogame party that you can't miss. The big companies might actually get some value out of the event that can't be replaced with their own alternatives.
Aiming at investors over customers is akin to making a feast out of your seed crop. You might get more up front, but you destroy the foundations that gave you the ability to grow that seed in the first place.
Beginning of an end. I mean, really who needs an E3 when they can create their own gaming reveal event online? A lot more easier and probably have better reach than bloating up one big even competing with other games in development. It's a win-win situation for all big companies. Just means it's bad for us consumers it's usually fun to watch these events.

I'm pretty sure the E3 organizers are panicking they probably don't know what to do. I don't know how it works by getting a spot at E3 but if they sold spots I'm sure it's expensive. At some point you're going to have to move out of the LAX center or whatever and get a smaller spot.. Then at that point you're doing online only. And then nothing. It's just a matter of time until E3 officially dies. I don't think there's anyway that they can survive. I guess Indie game publishers will take up the scraps after the Big 3 leave
Serves them right, it’s been obvious for the past 7-8 years that the E3 organizers fricking hate Gamers and are puppeteered by the “elite” or whatever you want to call them. >No booth babes >Muh Corona masks >movies movies movies >wtf why does nobody care
Microsoft is literally next door to LACC and usually does an event at the same time. Does this just mean you can't use your E3 badge to get into the Microsoft Theater or are they just not showing anything during the event?
It's easy to be cynical and shit on E3 but you can't deny how great these moments were. A good e3 press conference had the power to change a generation.
E3 is like any other festival that's fallen through the cracks over the last 23 years. The reasons for having it have all become moot because any of the unique things it would provide can easily be acquired instantly thanks to the internet, instead of being a rare opportunity.
2020, yeah, no helping that
2021, dogshit year that really didn't help its case to exist
2022, they fricking skipped it for no real reason, and also fricked over countless partners who had to reshape their schedules for that month.
And then they had the balls, to say "oh just wait until 2023 and then you'll be hyped"
Could we get what E3 provided without E3?
Absolutely.
Are we getting it?
No.
Now why is that? There are tons of reasons, but ultimately the industry and market alike, centring around E3, forced the hand of the industry instead of having everyone just keep their cards close to their chests.
it is better that everyone just have their own shows anyway.
I don't give a shit about what EA or ubisoft does so I'll tune in for xbox and maybe nintendo then leave.
There was an E3 last year?
No.
E3 was cancelled in full.
Nintendo found no negative from not attending at all for the past 3 years so they just see it as a money sink now.
E3 shot themselves in the foot for over reacting to the cold.
No way you could have had an event like e3 in the middle of covid, you would end up with it being a superspreder event and that's nit a good look for e3.
past 2020 covid was/is a cold so they could have done it, the real problem would just be people screeching about it
they should have held E3 in the middle of a riot
Should have just said E3 was a blm demonstration and would have had a bunch of medical professionals say how it won't cause any spread of covid.
Nintendo always had a showfloor presence though.
Wow, I'm glad America is free of uneducated morons now.
>no nintendo
what is the fricking point of reviving this garbage?
This is bad because E3 always forced Nintendo to show new stuff. Now we are down to just 2 Directs a year. This is giving them free reign to just do dick all for all of summer.
>This is bad because E3 always forced Nintendo to show new stuff
Too bad, a cough made E3 shut down for three years and Nintendo knows they don't need it anymore.
"a cough"
Why else do you think they closed shop for three years?
Jews
ah yes i remember the flu coming in and threatening jail time because i was trying to operate my business and provide a lively hood for my workers
E3 was going to be canceled regardless, covid was an excuse to save face
Let's usher in a new, revived era of Spaceworld brothers.
>The search is over, you were with me all the while
Why would they waste money on a slot when they can do it digitally with their own studios?
because the E3 lets you play demos of games before anyone else
Again, why would they waste money installing kiosks and create areas to play demos when they could easily put demos on their digital stores?
That's implying that I'd want to go to California, pay whatever exorbitant fee to get into E3, hope they announce a game I'd be excited for, hope that they have a playable demo, wait in line for three hours to play said demo for five minutes, all while surrounded by a nightmare of noise and lights and corporate homosexualry.
Or they could release the demo digitally.
No. It let's journos, retailers, and select elites play demos. E3 was a product of an Era where the industry was niche and you needed to build interest at an event because otherwise they might not stock your game. These days retail companies just stock whatever major publishers want them to.
Is E3 death good or bad for the industry?
it's an old dinosaur that Nintendo Directs proved should have been taken to pasture years ago and 'rona basically forced everyone else's hand to realize it
E3 having an event changes nothing whether it happens or not. Big publishers do not need help with promotion anymore, there's nothing E3 can give that Twitter doesn't.
it's just another way to make things easier for the companies' sakes (read: lazy and soulless)
>full of pre-rendered "gameplay trailers" and other lies
>allways cringe as frick
>fake hype for normies and blue haired morons who dont even play the games and for youtubers to make reaction videos doing moronic faces
>a known place that makes into the news for "the industry" to show how woke they are and for they to push their bullshit
So its both good and bad, is bad for the industry on the PR side, its good on the business side because reduce costs at not making anything.
As for the consoomers dosent change anything because they will still buy and eat the goyslop.
I consider it a virtue for no other reason than because it's a vestige of the AAA gaming industry, and everything about AAA gaming needs to die in the ass.
good, E3 has been shit for over a decade
The organizers just need to give up and accept that they're just another video game convention.
corporations have no respect for tradition. e3 was like a holiday for many years. christmas in june.
Baby boomers thought the world was going to end in 2000 while kids in 2000 were having the time of their lives.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2000_problem
y2k was a singular problem with some computer software not being prepared for transition from 1999 to 2000, not a collapse of every institution due to thousands of individual dysfunctions
Woah, you don't say? I should walk outside and breath some fresh air then! I thought all the nukes fell.
If y2k had been today there would be videos of republicans having seizures for years afterwards, 10 people would shoot up Microsoft and half the posts ITT would be calling you y2k AI bots. People have gotten so much dumber over time.
And? People thought the world was absolute garbage back then too. You were just a child back then so it had no effect on you, you only cared about Pokemon and catching toonami after school.
Statistically speaking, they were wrong.
Please stop trying to gaslight zoomers into thinking that any time pre-2012 or even pre-2001 was like this Black person hellscape.
>muh california
Trump lost. Red state are poorer than blue states.
BASED. Frick chuds
now separate it by demographic.
>actual racist
Also the problem with America is your side.
>deflecting
i accept your concession.
>moving goal posts with muh skin color
I accept your future head concussion.
>blaming poverty on voting patterns when it much more closely correlates with demographic
sounds like you've already suffered brain damage.
It's weird that the north won the civil war but then foolishly allowed the south to retain some degree autonomy anyway. It seems like every time america wins a war, they invalidate its purpose with the peace settlement.
Bro, what the frick does Trump have to do with this? Even a ton of left wingers know that California is a festering shithole. Have you ever actually been? Yeah it's not the worst state but it's the bottom 10 I'd want to live in.
Gonna have to shake that ass a bit harder if you want a reply, twitchgays.
Even returning to 2019 would be nice at this point. And to think I thought the world had gone to shit then. One thing is certain, it's only going to get worse.
yeah you clearly weren't born in the 80s
no shit
This doesn't actually contradict the premise that life has been getting steadily worse over the last seventy years. Of course boomers are going to think they had it better if they literally did have it better.
Yes they are uneasy and listless but they don't know why.
Same
Neutral, but a sad loss.
E3 has been shit since like 2013, it should have died a long time ago.
It does however suck for us because it means there'll be less cringeworthy shit for us to laugh at, but the amount of actually funny cringe peaked between 2008 and 2014, and for the last 8 or 9 years it's just been more soulless, corporate shit than anything else.
>cringeworthy shit for us to laugh at
TGA already has that
Ehh, TGAs is too corporate, too many commercials and fake moments to really compete with the cringeworthy shit we got back in the late 2000s/early 2010s.
If not for that Bill Clinton shit last year that would have been the worst TGAs since the Spike TV days.
Never forget krato's va accepting his award for 10 mins.
Anything that hinders modern AAA games is good for the industry.
Good post anon
Most devs are insanely bad at PR though.
devs/publishers use "influencers" now, that is, homosexuals on youtube/twitch
its a sign of bad times, they spread their marketing to the rest of the internet.
It wont change anything, developers already moved to digital platforms to anounce their games.
Irrelevant. In the end, it's nothing more than a cog in the propaganda machine.
Bad. Now all the events are spread throughout the year. No more cringe kino and no more live stage events. Man, I miss PSX...
We're at a point where general games journalism is worse simply because you don't NEED it anymore, anything you want to know about anything is at the tip of your finger whenever you want it through Twitter or Reddit or whatever news article gets shoved at you via Google and what's left is a bunch of shlock and hateclick articles written by people that could give less of a shit as long as they're making a buck
>and it blew up like crazy
lol
>people talking about it and seriously considering it a GOTY contender in fricking January
>matching if not outselling a Triple-A game marketed for a long fricking time in the same release window
>doing this with no prior manufactured hype on a day-1 shadowdrop
yes it blew up
E3 died when the Social Media alghorithms and E-Celebs became vidya spotlight. Make that as you will.
e3 hasn't been good in a long time
So everything changes.
the real answer is it doesn't matter once you realize the video game awards is basically taking up the mantle
It forced people to bring their A game otherwise they'd get mocked and be I. The shadow of everyone else.
good but it doesnt matter
the game awards is even worse and has replaced it
hype culture around e3 ruined gaming industry more than anything in the last 10 years.
remember when sony "won" e3 in 2015?
they won e3 by
>showing remake of a 20 year old game that wasn't released until 2020 and that was only part 1. It's 2023 and we're not even close to getting part 2, they will probably still won't be over with this "remake" in 2030
>announcing the release of the last guardian, a game that everyone forgot a day after it came out
>announce a FRICKING KICKSTARTER page for Shenmue 3. But that's okay cause it's Shenmue 3. Oh and that also fricking sucked when it eventually came out
I fricking hate e3 and I'm glad it's dead
But how in the world can you unironically make the claim that E3 does nothing while arguing in the favour of the game awards?
that is because the game awards is an awards show first and foremost. it is similar to mama, the big awards show in kpop. only the big companies get the limelight as they get all that awards
It's good ignore what anyone says, E3 is filled with bunch of ESA lobbyists who pushes lootboxes and MTX
Good for the industry
Bad for my entertainment
it's both good and bad
I will remember the good memories I had of it but I won't mourn it's passing.
So E3 is dead again?
E3 was about far more than video games. It'll probably survive, but it's likely not going to be a big event for the video game industry anymore.
it was already dying, hence why they finally started allowing the public to attend instead of just industry and media
E3 is just a thing of the past. Every company can promote their own games on their own social media platforms, and even with paid promoting, it would be much cheaper than attending E3 where you also have to compete with every other company there.
Frick. At least we still have TGA for cringekino.
pretty much and honestly TGA itself already feels too much "content" anyways. It all feels out of date, if the doritos guy turns it into some kind of festival instead of just a meme awards show that would bring it back
>festival
Summer games fest is already a thing. TGA has always been a meme show, its why people tune in.
The previous TGA will be the last one I ever watch because some of the big names who showed up will certainly never be there again for their own safety, no matter what Geoff does to avoid another Bill Clinton kid
It really is over
Good riddance.
Imagine spending your time watching ads.
Probably because gaben was nice and warned them he was dropping episode 3!!!
>caring about E3
>in 2023
ok weeb
everyone found out it's best to copy nintendo.
again.
Well PCchads, guess we have the entire E3 for ourselves.
not fair PC always gets more attention than consoles
"""""""""""""""""""""""E3"""""""""""""""""""""""""
Yeah, frick E3.
>fricked over 'journalists' and made them seethe
shit, i like esa now.
Rip
Eh I don't care anymore. EVO is always way more exciting for me personally.
>EVO is always way more exciting for me personally.
Hi, third worlder.
>EVO
lmao
literally owned by some shitty thot streamer prostitute
>Nintendo Direct
>State of Play
>Developer Direct
Wow, can't imagine why they're not inclined to bother. E3 was fricked the instant Nintendo put out its first Direct. Writing's been on the wall for years.
They might have been able to pull them back in eventually, but they waited too many years to come back from covid and now nobody needs their infrastructure anymore
Honestly, this was going to happen even without covid. They can literally just put out a compilation video of upcoming games. Surprised E3 keeps desperately trying to stay relevant. It's been way past time to just leave it.
Developer Direct sucked.
PlayStation Showcase is the equivalent to E3. State of Plays are shorter.
>Developer Direct
Wtf is that
Who cares? We still get get our announcements and trailers same as every year.
This is honestly sad.
Its true that none of the big three actually need E3 anymore. But that one time of the year always marked a celebration of gaming where everyone would come together in excitement and anticipation.
the only difference is that its not part of E3, its still around the same time of the year
>E3 without any of the console manufacturers there
What's the point? That's like making a movie sequel with none of the original actors or writers, but without even replacing them.
Then who the frick is gonna be there? Square Enix?
It's over.
Dorito pope and the shill awards won.
Nintendo Direct won once again. Iwata was truly ahead of his time.
This. Now Sony and MS are starting to see how much better is that format of spreading new games and trailers. E3 will be only for 3rd party multiplats.
For viewers having that one big event was a great thing
It brought the community together and everyone could raise their awareness of gaming in one go.
Remember 2019? Keanu reeves? It was great fun
Remember Keanu Reeves' game? That his inclusion ruined?
wow you people cope with life by simplifying things that heavily?
so they didn't change the story at all because they paid a lot of money for an overrated actor and wanted to get their moneys worth? is that what you're saying?
The game was basically in development until spring 2022
are you being intentionally obtuse or are you just moronic?
The game being released in a technically poor state due to various factors is what ruined cp launch
Not a single voice actor
Not him but the game was very far along in development and had to be heavily reworked to fit in Keanu. This led to crunch and technical problems which the time NOT including Keanu couldve been used to clean up
source?
His ass. Remember that 45min gameplay trailer? It was fake.
>games take a decade to make now
>E3 is cancelled cuz they have nothing to show year after year
yepp gaming is totally alive bros
I miss E3 so much. It was nice to get all the big news in just one week. Nowadays we get dozens of single showcases through the year with most of them being underwhelming as hell.
Do you often find yourself sitting in your chair for hours, watching video game advertisements?
But at what cost?
how did sony even manage to participate in this and pretend they have games all these years
What they would do is have one new game announcement while having new trailers for the handful games they announced in the prior 3-4 years.
E3 cringe is lost forever.
These are dark days....

Fricking Nintendo, they had to go ahead and ruin it for everyone. Can't commend them for being ahead of the curve with Directs when it denied us our live conference kino.
damn was really looking forward to seeing new advertisements
all big companies are doing direct livestreams they dont need e3 anymore.
SOVL
>figured out the meta
meta ruins everything
What will Xbox trannies wait for now? Other than games, obviously.
frick yeah, now we have the time we need for endless diversity showings and POC panels
Can we stop pretending we had an actual E3 the last few years?
Frick 9/10 trailers didnt show gameplay and most of what they showed looked like ass anyway.
It was already dead, it's just official now.
that's like saying that because you aren't a kid anymore and don't get col expensive gifts for christmas anymore that christmas should just not be celebrated anymore.
That makes no sense bro.
There is a difference between "I don't get gifts from my parents" and "there is no gift I would want as everything is shit"
More like E0 lol
CARLOSSSSS
I have a hard time that Xbox/Microsoft won't be there, given Spencer is on the board of the ESA.
Oh no how will I live without E3
Geoff will include esg trannies into his show, dont you worry.
I hate this timeline bros
Reminder that this is the Balan Wonderworld Timeline
>3.77 MB
> E3 has largely suffered from an identity crisis in the last decade or so. It's meant to be a trade show -- and you can debate how good it is at being that -- but started to veer off into being a marketing event or even a fanfest.
Bingo.
What were some of the most embarrassing E3 moments from the last few years? I remember Square Enix showing the beginning of Life is Strange 2 (already extremely embarrassing) with a compilation of e-celebs reacting to it for some reason.
The white guy playing the flute at the Ghost of Tsushima presentation, but it was less the performance and more twitter going apeshit trying to shit on the guy.
it encapsulates the cultural zeitgeist perfectly tho
>sony wants to highlight a lost art and hires the one guy who is good with an instrument
>the japs obviously like it
>the evil devils of moloch worshippers pop in and start spilling vitriol because the algorithm in their brain tells them this is a good way to get serotonin
and the rest is history
Exactly.
Blame the asiatics for abandoning their own instruments to play Western ones, not the one expert who happens to be white.
why would a asiatic play a japanese instrument
>The white guy playing the flute at the Ghost of Tsushima presentation,
i liked that guy
>What were some of the most embarrassing E3 moments from the last few years? I
Crowbcat does the best E3 cringe videos. Comedy gold.
This fricking sucks man, I loved the cringe E3 always gave us, I don't care about the games
>Zoomers hate E3 now
>Zoomers prefer straight-up dicksucking fests from their designated fandom
The point of E3 was to view the universal state of viyda, explore the competiton and maybe get introduced to something new.
That hasn't been the point of E3 since like 2010.
The point of E3 for the last decade has been to laugh at Ubisoft's embarrassing conferences, cringe at corporations trying to be #hip, and roll your eyes when they trod out the mouthpieces for typical mouthpiece shit.
Only for zoomers. The whole "ironically watching stuff" is pure zoomer cancer.
>Surely you understand that gameplay can't be shown until the game's fairly late in production.
Not true, the term is "vertical slice"
E3 been dead for a decade. It means nothing anymore. Here is a new fitbit! Look at my talking fridge!
I don't know. I liked E3 more than I like The Game Awards
E3 seemed something larger than life, while game awards (mundane name) is this geoff show where you expect geoffs face all the time and his frend kojimbo to pop up.
Don't forget Hollywood actors and directors who don't give a shit but they're there anyway just for the paycheck and look pretty (they're not).
So finally the industry admits it has no games. It took them long enough
>Only 3rd party publishers showing their games nobody gives a shit about
>Summer Games Fest has been garbage
>No hope for gamescom either
>Directs from Nintendo have been tolerable but not amazing while the other company's directs have been insufferable
HAHA you're old
>I liked being able to pop into E3 once a year to check out what's coming. Not just sit every day waiting for announcements.
This is the biggest loss. E3 was a calendar date where the big 3 had to plan towards.
Without it you're just waiting around hoping you'll get a random news update sometime.
If you're not addicted to Ganker then just subscribe to some Twitters. Nintendo of America, Xbox, and Playstation should do it.
/indie/
Steam Next Fest for demos
Canard PC
I don't know what any of these are
I mean, like, a yearly, maybe monthly event that just recaps all the games that came out or got announced. If I come to Ganker once every month I've missed like 5 games that came, went and fell out of favor.
>So how do people who aren't on social media 24/7 get their video game news nowadays?
pretty much just Ganker. the news/updates thing on steam when devs say something on games i purchased.
None of them have any games to show anyway. Who are we kidding here? Even if they were at E3 it would still be a nothingburger.
>valve is the only company that shows up
>announces hl3, releases same day
>event just ends right there
Ngl bros, I'm gonna miss complaining about the Black person music in all caps
I think the E3 woke corruption happens gradually, first someone highlights a social issue they should talk about to appeal or avoid criticism for not including it.
Then next year they go "we already are this woke, lets add on top"
And eventually just start getting trannies show up and awards for social impact
you have no leadership that knows what to do to to fix things and eventually people just fricking hate your show and the only way forward is to crash the whole thing and sprout a new show with different people who have slightly better idea of what Not to do to keep corruption at bay for a while
So we had e3 die, and geoffs show get the spot instead.
Didn't they cancel E3 forever or something? What happened?
2020 everyone had a "not" e3 digital event around the usual time, 2021 it was back under the e3 banner, then last year they gave up and did nothing/companies just did whatever. This article implies it's coming back "for real" but the big boys are pulling out.
None of you were ever gonna go to E3 to begin with, stop crying and let it die.
I'm not american but I've been to gaming trade shows. I got to play a pre-release version of Sonic and Knuckles back in the day.
I was like, "can I rent this?" and they were like "no" and was like, "can I buy this?" and they were like "no".
They also had a huge cylinder with 10 CD-Is all playing Hotel Mario. And they were always empty so I could sit down and play it whenever I got bored.
I remember when it was my childhood dream to go to E3.
Nowadays you'd have to pay me to want to go there in person.
The game awards is the new e3 now.
Isn't that an award show? Never watched it.
I don't mind being shilled games.
>Isn't that an award show? Never watched it.
people literally tune in for the announcements (ads). Xbox series x was even shown off at one.
>Isn't that an award show?
Yes, but if all you care about are announcements than TGA has been E3 in all but name for the last few years now. It's basically just Geoff showing trailer after trailer with awards in-between.
>people lamenting the death of E3
Why? It was just a shill convention.
It is the last vestiges of their childhood falling away. They now realize they must be men, stop playing video games, and go enlist in the military.
So no video games at E3.
Got it.
There are no video games left in man.
Who are these mysterious six gamers?
We may never know. Perhaps Naka's conspirators.
>>>
E3 died when they banned booth babes. it was just a shambling zombie corpse since then because no more fun allowed.
We have a winner. If not the cause definitely a sign. It was a red flag that the industry had capitulated. Nobody talks about the women who were put out of work thanks to these changes.
There's nothing that screams female empowerment more than putting women out of work.
>Implying that's the only job women can have
Sexism at work here.
It's the only job women want to do
>the only job
It wasn't. But it was a disproportionally well paid and easy job that many of them favoured for being easy and well paid.
So women are sexist towards themselves? Hmm, it's like your post is a self-defeating argument.
So....... who will be there? PC gamer? Netflix and Amazon?
>remember wanting to go to E3 at least once as a kid
>finally old enough to go if I wanted
>it's dead
>E3 with no Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo
Stadia bro's it's our time to shine now!
What went wrong bros? Back then it was simple. All studios, all announcements.
One week.
Now it's nothing. And one little teaser once a week, and then another next week, and they're all hidden behind memes and other videos so you don't know what the dick got announced. Webm related..
Capitalism.
It's always capitalism.
God I hate capitalism.
He's lying it was the communists
Jews
capitalism and socialism are both marxist systems. one simply splits the authoritarian class into government and corporations, while the other drops the pretense that they're different entities. they're two sides of the same shekel.
Not bothering with any new consoles after this nogames gen.
Man when was that one e3 with the fricking Wii music shit?
I've been watching it since before that year.
Must've been 15 years ago I bet. Godamn I'm getting old.
E3 has been unwatchable since like 2016
Say it.
It's so weird seeing Microsoft and Sony so shamelessly rip off Nintendo Directs
Ripping off Nintendo ten years late is a well established practice in the video game industry.
Ok, so when's the next PlayStation Showcase or Nintendo Direct. We're never got a Showcase last year, just a few State of Plays.
COVID also fricked development of games, so there was actually less to show, not just lack of an opportunity to show it
There's always a direct in February or March, but usually in February. Didn't some insider say the showcase got canceled because they were afraid it would affect their Microsoft monopoly argument?
That was never confirmed tho. We usually get the PS Showcase in June or September. If that rumor is true it's gonna be a while. Frick.
E3 died with the booth babies.
Those prostitutes had to get real jobs.
Shame on you!
>NOOO IT'S SEXUALIZING WOMEN CHUD
>please subscribe to my onlyfans
One is exploitation and the other is empowering you chauvinistic pig!
These empowered women enjoy getting $30 USD to put their entire fist in their butthole.
Booth babes need to come back and so should PSX. If Blizzard can hold an annual convention then Sony can do it too. BRING IT BACK JIMBOOOOOO
Why. You can just look up porn. They'd all be nasty tatted up roasties and niggresses anyway.
Models usually worked as booth babes in between shoots. I don't see why that can't happen again.
Models would be replaced with onlythots.
Nah. As long as they say "we're looking for genuine models" it'll be fine.
I think it's funny that you're trying to take a principled stance about marketing to coombrains.
ok sherlock holmes
>Booth babes need to come back
They're called cosplayers
E3 stopped mattering in 2016 when Nintendo came and stole the show with a single game.
Why would they?
They'll be at Summer Game Fest instead
Those cold dead eyes. Like a dolls eyes.
/our guy/
People shit on E3 and it was definitely getting worse but me and my bros LOVED watching it and would get togeather every presentaion to watch all the presentaions Its was a fun week. The game awards have replaced it but we used to have E3 and the game awards so its still a loss
You do have bros dont you Ganker
The best and most memorable parts of e3 were the cringe kino. Konami's legendary e3 presentation was more entertaining than any of the actual games they showed.
Imagine if E3 had kept its early philosophy of being a big videogame party that you can't miss. The big companies might actually get some value out of the event that can't be replaced with their own alternatives.
Aiming at investors over customers is akin to making a feast out of your seed crop. You might get more up front, but you destroy the foundations that gave you the ability to grow that seed in the first place.
At least xbox and Nintendo are still doing shows around that time period. Sony refuses to join in with a show just for the sake of being contrarian.
Why is E3 still a thing?
Beginning of an end. I mean, really who needs an E3 when they can create their own gaming reveal event online? A lot more easier and probably have better reach than bloating up one big even competing with other games in development. It's a win-win situation for all big companies. Just means it's bad for us consumers it's usually fun to watch these events.
>no E3
>nooo companies will become lazy!
if you guys need actual shills and "consoomers", there you go.
e3 was cancelled last year and nintendo did a shitty direct mini, so people are right, companies will get lazy
that's more on them not giving a frick about June
are you that braindead to ignore them. unless you're a hypegay
>are you that braindead to ignore them. unless you're a hypegay
How do you even find out about games? You need marketing to find out about anything. Stop acting like you're som intellectual god who's too good for marketing.
we call that osmosis anon, they'll appear without the need of you participating in their trash or interacting with parasitic streamers
You think you're so underground you sound like a pretentious homosexual lmfao
Black person what, stop being a moronic and use your brain for once
you'll be marketed, so you don't need clowns and shills of e3
Dude what the frick you're always marketed stop being ignorant you're not some special homosexual who somehow has magical ways of dodging them. You browse the Internet. You're bound to run into some fricking marketing shit you little moron. It's everywhere.
...fricking moron, read what I post. I know you'll be marketed. My point is that you don't need E3 for that shit unless you're so desperate for hype, and even then you don't need E3 for that.
You're literally arguing with yourself you dumb fricking loser lmfao
>consoomer gets confused so he tries to spin
here's your (You), move along
Fricking moron. E3 is fricking important it's the heart and soul of fricking video game culture butthole. Fricking learn your history.
>heart and soul
>literally just corpos and spokespersons spazzing on stage
>console war homosexualry
and he tells me to learn my history
LEARN YOUR HISTORY!!
Face it. He blew you the frick out.
Frick off. Even if you ignore shills and marketing you just let others shill at you.
>nintenbros complaining about cucktendo not showing their shit at e3 this year
i had quite a chuckle at this thread, thanks OP
Drop E3 but keep Keighley's shit?
E3 was a part of gaming history. SGF and TGA are commercialized ad-ridden consoomer bullshit.
oh no the ads!
>The big 3 gaming companies won't be apart of E3
>Have nothing to show
That's pathetic, why even have an E3? They'll probably lose a lot of viewers since none of the popular companies are showcasing anything.
Yeah, that's what I figured. It'll turn into an indie gaming convention with like 2-3 hours of no name indie companies showcasing their indie games.
It's like a hipster gaming showcase.
>hipster
Wait, what?
Serves them right, it’s been obvious for the past 7-8 years that the E3 organizers fricking hate Gamers and are puppeteered by the “elite” or whatever you want to call them.
>No booth babes
>Muh Corona masks
>movies movies movies
>wtf why does nobody care
Don't know why some anons deluded themselves into thinking E3's return would be any good. It became shit long before the pandemic.
I love diversity.
>asiatic. IS. NOT. JAPANEEEEEESE REEEEE
lol shut up asiatic
Journos are still seething about E3 I see 🙂
RIP IN PEPPERONI
Microsoft is literally next door to LACC and usually does an event at the same time. Does this just mean you can't use your E3 badge to get into the Microsoft Theater or are they just not showing anything during the event?
E3 is literally an indie tier convention now
It's easy to be cynical and shit on E3 but you can't deny how great these moments were. A good e3 press conference had the power to change a generation.
E3 is like any other festival that's fallen through the cracks over the last 23 years. The reasons for having it have all become moot because any of the unique things it would provide can easily be acquired instantly thanks to the internet, instead of being a rare opportunity.
How is this in any way suprising to anyone
2020, yeah, no helping that
2021, dogshit year that really didn't help its case to exist
2022, they fricking skipped it for no real reason, and also fricked over countless partners who had to reshape their schedules for that month.
And then they had the balls, to say "oh just wait until 2023 and then you'll be hyped"
E3 had its chance and they blew it.
Could we get what E3 provided without E3?
Absolutely.
Are we getting it?
No.
Now why is that? There are tons of reasons, but ultimately the industry and market alike, centring around E3, forced the hand of the industry instead of having everyone just keep their cards close to their chests.
>E3 or an allegory to the big 3 companies in vidya entertainment
>all three of them decide to frick off and not attend
my fricking sides
it is better that everyone just have their own shows anyway.
I don't give a shit about what EA or ubisoft does so I'll tune in for xbox and maybe nintendo then leave.
>Timmy still can't handle his toy show is irrelevant despite being his late twenties
Whatever, they'll all still be getting pre-recorded digital stuff around E3 season. It makes no difference functionally, only the E3 branding.
So E3 is officially dead? Nobody is going to watch this without the big 3. End of an era...
I just hope this means Starfield comes out before E3 otherwise it would be weird if they don't attend.
Remember when we had E3 fort threads? Good times.
PC chads! We win! We have an entire event for ourselves!
