Honestly the best thing I played last year. I played it on a whim when it was on game pass not thinking much of it but it ended up consuming my life for about a month.
Fun gameplay, interesting characters, good progression system, overall a fantastic videogame. Enjoy the ride.
Non-gamer skitzo culturewar cretins on Ganker occasionally whine about this game and make up absolutely deranged nonsense which is instantly recognizable as idiotic and false but we all know their modus operandi and tactics by now so they well and truly don't matter.

To the current cretin morons who compose the gamer subculture, "roguelike" means they are "like "roguelikes" "
Just let me mock the absurdity of the name, jesus christ it's all a gag dude.
You lost this argument a decade ago. The meaning of words changes. Relating "Rougelike" only to games exactly like Rogue makes it a functionally dead and useless term these days.
>the meaning changes
Well thankfully that isn't the case here. Hey, can you actually describe what a roguelike is? Because i can guarantee that none for the games that you consider a roguelike actually are one
>Well thankfully that isn't the case here.
According to consumers, producers, game Devs and quite literally everyone but a small handful of people on Ganker, yes it has. The accepted genre for Hades is a Roguelikes.
If you're looking for a more profitable pointless argument to dig your heels into, I suggest the "You need to call it Gnu/Linux" one. At least you can be correct there, if annoying.
Funny, you still didn't describe what a roguelike is even supposed to be. >everyone thinks it has
Proof? The fact that everywhere seems to have debates about it means that clearly this issue that you think only exists here in tiny quantities is more widespread than you think. It's like you don't even remember when valve had this big popup on steam talking about the differences between the two during some event.

you probably don't see games like nethack on steam because early roguelikes were free and open-source, not because people don't know what they are
I remember being hyped for this shit but then played it and realised it has one of the worst combat in the genre. It's a "I ignored the most crucial aspect of the game and focused on everything else" the game.
pretty much. Once I figured out that dash attacks were fricking broken because they made you functionally invincible + stunlocking everything I dropped the game
a 7/10 or 8/10 rogue lite that people pretend is a 10/10 for whatever reason. Probably the most accessible one to get into. Kinda feels weak on content compared to something like isaac but its still fun. Great voice work, lots of lines, combat feels good.
A really fun, addicting game that won't stick with you for too long, but will be a very fun ride while you're playing it.
Unfortunately, it's usually hard to discuss here since everyone on Ganker is a super elite expert gamer who beat it on their first run and beat it on Heat 20 shortly after. So you'll tend to get a lot of posts along those lines.
Funny enough, the "Harder" version of most of the bosses are actually easier to deal with
>Introduce Hades to my brother >He's wary of it, not into Roguelikes, tries it at my insistence >Dies in Tartarus, as expected >Does so again another few times >Interest going towards rock bottom, telling me it's just not his kinda game, doing the same thing over with a thin margin of error, it's fine but not his style >One more run >Gets the Cursed Slash upgrade, 60% less HP, but can heal with each hit >Margin for error suddenly much larger, can outright tank through some damage >Cruises through Tartarus and Asphodel in one go, gets through most of Elysium before finally getting overwhelmed >Suddenly bursting with renewed interest, enjoying the game, giving it an honest chance >Ends up loving it, buys it himself, plays it to completion and maxes out Heat
It's funny how it goes sometimes, that one run can just really sell you on the game.
Shame the character designs are such garbage outside Hades, Zagreus, Nyx, Persephone and Thanatos. Aphrodite's and Athena's is outright offensive when they're supposed to be the most beautiful Gods of all
>Removes Metroid, a series where every single game is a Metroidlike >Keeps Castlevania, where only a handful of games are Metroidlikes
For what purpose?
I played the game and beat hades one.
I hated the whole experience after about 20 hours.
The characters all talking in monotone bland british is also soul crushingly boring.
Over hyped and i don't see why it's getting a 2nd game.
A good game thats behind some real gay ass fricking homosexual community that can't stop sucking dicks and can't stop talking about the designs in the game that were made to appeal to them.
If you look past that though it's pretty good. I pirated it jsut because I knew that any dev who would put out such blatant gaybait in their shit doesn't get my money
I went back and played Bastion afterwards, and I think Bastion is better overall for anyone who doesn't really dig the repetitive nature of roguelites. Not only is there more weapon variety and I like how you can have two at a time to really mix and match. Properly executed and deliberate level design will always be superior compared to randomness. It's also great having a story and narration that is genuine instead of a bunch of sarcasm. Zia's theme is also the best song I think they have done
Gay

>Proof?
The store page, and literally the entire Roguelike tag... Huh, almost none of them have anything to do with Nethack at all!
And no, this isn't some ongoing debate, this is just a handful of morons and autists arguing something they lost a decade ago. Once again, I direct you to refocus your pointlessly enthusiasm into obsessing about getting people to call it "Gnu/Linux", you may lose that argument too, but at least you're correct!
Calm down. You sound like the kind of guy who repeatedly punches himself when stressed or frustrated.
Just because a moron cracked his head on the pavement doesn't mean I should.
>Rougelike is any game with permadeath
So real life is a rougelike?
It's not "one moron", it's the whole industry, you lost this argument a decade ago. It's time to let go and to refocus your meaningless autism somewhere else
You can read more here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU/Linux_naming_controversy
Why the frick is this Black person bringing up Linux not just once accidentally but multiple times deliberately.
I'm trying to help these ancient morons refocus their energy away from a useless, lost argument that exists only to derail threads, and into something slightly more productive.
If you want a pointless, autistic argument to dig your heels in, that one is way better than this "No true Roguelike" shit.
Guacameleevanialite
Steam had this big event where one of the main articles had this fricking essay talking about the differences between the two, and you still think this discussion only happens on random unused shitholes like a dead forum. Even plebbit has this kind of discussion.
you probably don't see games like nethack on steam because early roguelikes were free and open-source, not because people don't know what they are
A very boring and repetitive game.
A roguelike that is boring to replay AKA shit
people say this is like Diablo but it's not like Diablo at all
it's actiony diablo, like nox or victor vran
Nox isn't like Diablo.
A genuine contender for game of the year when it came out, it was fantastic fun. I give it about a 9/10
fun
and failure is still a step towards success. no run is a waste of your time.
A highly polished game with the approximate depth of a puddle.
Genuinely fun game with an impressive amount of reactive dialogue, but man do I hope that the sequel has more biome and boss variety.
Funny enough, the "Harder" version of most of the bosses are actually easier to deal with
>Introduce Hades to my brother
>He's wary of it, not into Roguelikes, tries it at my insistence
>Dies in Tartarus, as expected
>Does so again another few times
>Interest going towards rock bottom, telling me it's just not his kinda game, doing the same thing over with a thin margin of error, it's fine but not his style
>One more run
>Gets the Cursed Slash upgrade, 60% less HP, but can heal with each hit
>Margin for error suddenly much larger, can outright tank through some damage
>Cruises through Tartarus and Asphodel in one go, gets through most of Elysium before finally getting overwhelmed
>Suddenly bursting with renewed interest, enjoying the game, giving it an honest chance
>Ends up loving it, buys it himself, plays it to completion and maxes out Heat
It's funny how it goes sometimes, that one run can just really sell you on the game.
Shame the character designs are such garbage outside Hades, Zagreus, Nyx, Persephone and Thanatos. Aphrodite's and Athena's is outright offensive when they're supposed to be the most beautiful Gods of all
The combat is boring. I don’t know how anyone stuck with it.
Fantastic characters and voice acting are the main standouts for it. The gameplay is pretty addicting but eventually you get tired of the repetition.
The same levels over and over. People hailed this like the next coming of vidya jesus but all I got is an introduction of rogue-like.
homosexual game
A shitty, overrated, game that does nothing better than even the most mediocre roguelites available on the market.
never played it because the art style was very homosexual, shit looks like Dream Daddy.
I'm going to start calling VNs "Dream Daddy clones."
A boring piece of shit, like any other rogue like.
Overrated reddit shit for trannies and cucks
What is your favorite Oriandtheblindforesvania?
Rabi Ribi and it is not even close
>Removes Metroid, a series where every single game is a Metroidlike
>Keeps Castlevania, where only a handful of games are Metroidlikes
For what purpose?
I played the game and beat hades one.
I hated the whole experience after about 20 hours.
The characters all talking in monotone bland british is also soul crushingly boring.
Over hyped and i don't see why it's getting a 2nd game.
My favorite Guacameleelike these days is Fortnite, probably second favorite is Rocket League.
>IP count didn't increase
Huh, must be bugged
Yeah I've posted in this same thread before, what of it.
Escape From Tarkov is a roguelike
Shoot Them All Up
a lot of clicking
Looking forward to the sequel
A good game thats behind some real gay ass fricking homosexual community that can't stop sucking dicks and can't stop talking about the designs in the game that were made to appeal to them.
If you look past that though it's pretty good. I pirated it jsut because I knew that any dev who would put out such blatant gaybait in their shit doesn't get my money
one of the better post-rogues
I went back and played Bastion afterwards, and I think Bastion is better overall for anyone who doesn't really dig the repetitive nature of roguelites. Not only is there more weapon variety and I like how you can have two at a time to really mix and match. Properly executed and deliberate level design will always be superior compared to randomness. It's also great having a story and narration that is genuine instead of a bunch of sarcasm. Zia's theme is also the best song I think they have done
