What is the current state of State of Decay 2? Why has it been continuing to receive updates since its release?
Is it worth purchasing for $10? how does it compare to one?
I heard it compared to rust-likes and that's a big turnoff for me
CRIME Shirt $21.68 |
CRIME Shirt $21.68 |
>Is it worth purchasing for $10?
You'll get your money's worth.
>how does it compare to one?
Its literally the same game but with quality of life, 1 is entirely obsolete.
>I heard it compared to rust-likes and that's a big turnoff for me
I don't know what a "rust-like" is, but this game can be played in multiplayer co-op, which will make it extremely ultra piss easy when doing so. You will like or dislike the game depending on what you're looking for in a zombie survival game.
>You'll get your money's worth.
But will I actually have fun or is it more a time investment gameplay loop towards completion thing
>will I actually have fun
I’m sure you will have fun on your first play through, the separation is people who enjoy playing it over again on different maps and difficulties cause it’s practically the same game loop every time.
Yeah I really really enjoy games with prestige systems, so I played through it multiple times and did the horde mode (although solo, lol) until I had 3 Black Talon operators and quadruple Nightmare prestiges and CLEO stuff
I did this over the course of about 2 years on and off, but it was always fun and I really enjoyed the game for what it was.
You will spend 90% of your time trying to manage your people and bases. It becomes tedious very fast.
>Its literally the same game but with quality of life, 1 is entirely obsolete.
nonsense
It's closer to 5 bucks. They improved it, slightly, since release. It's kinda fun. Nowhere near as good as 1 but I liked the basebuilding. The quests are MMO tier gathering loot, shooting plague zombie spawn blobs and building outposts but SoD1 with the DLC is much better
>Its literally the same game but with quality of life, 1 is entirely obsolete.
Bullshit, man. Both games play and feel different.
I got super into it on gamepass until I learned loot doesn't respawn and you have to hop between maps taking only 3 people with you.
WTF is that shit. What's the point of building a base and training your survivors using rare skill books
>loot doesn't respawn and you have to hop between maps taking only 3 people with you
Even on Lethal mode the map has enough loot to let you set up your infinite resource acquisition. Good management of base facilities, outposts, and ally communities will have you gaining resources daily instead of losing them. I rarely ever loot over half the map before I'm all set up and end up with too much resources. There are also radio commands that will spawn a rucksack of anything you call for and tell you where it is so you can go pick it up, this command always spawns a new one on the map to give you, so don't be afraid to use it.
what do you do for infinite food and fuel? I had to kill some of the communities on the map and the others don't give me shit besides free followers
Hydroponics + Gardening skill + Fertilizer Mod gives +9 food per small slot (or close to)
Survivors can be taught Foraging for +2 Food per day
Tier 3 Farms with relevant boosts can do 12 food a day
Survivor can get a +2 fuel skill, otherwise just grab 2 fuel outposts
>fuel
You don't necessarily need a fuel income. The roadside assistance ally community radio call is one of the best things in the game. Even then, once you start getting comfortable you will begin amassing influence, at which point you just buy fuel outright from communities. Influence will eventually begin to accumulate in your game, and communities always sell rucksacks of stuff with a few exceptions, its worth keeping them around and bringing more in via the radio and getting them to ally status. If the ally bonus is good, keep them, if not, recruit a member for free and grow your own community instead, its a win win situation(minus whatever resource they asked you to give them).
New game mode essentially lets you new game plus your community when you beat a map and go to a new one so I've heard
Is it possible to encounter an old community with a new one?
If you want to play sod 2, dont forget to download the character customization mod, most of the character in this game is either mutt or a Black person.
how necessary are mods?
Not really necessary, most of sod 2 mods are cosmetic and gameplay tweaks. But I really recommend you to download the character tweaking mod.
Now that I think about it, why didn't they make a character creator? Let's be real you're going to roll those characters until you get the one you want, so might as well let players make their own
I haven't played State of Decay 2 but the distinct starting characters in one and their stories has some charm.
Are the characters randomly generated or is it pulling from a pool like with Breakdown from State of Decay?
Is there even a story?
This current price is what's tempting me. lower than the lowest listed price on isthereanydeal but that's because of the bundle
Ah shit I bought it directly without looking at the bundle. I could have saved a few bucks.
never forget these lost $2.55
Frick!
my local banker changed his policies and charged me $2 for bank account maintenance
Refund and get the bundle?
I'm not sure if there's some sort of mechanism to prevent buying the same game after refunding it, or if the process of refunding it would take longer than the sale lasts. I'm not sweating 1/3rd of a cheeseburger. I'd give that to a dog.
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/784C-923B-A4A1-C825
Valve literally uses mistakenly not buying a bundle as the reason in their example. They don't give a frick. If you have the capital, just ask for a refund and buy the bundle at the same time. It's not much money, but it's also not a lot of effort.
I appreciate you looking out for me.
I'll never forget state of decay 1 got mad I killed their gay npcs and locked me out from the changing base mechanic.
Main mode and daybreak is random characters hearthland has characters with some story to them but nothing impressive.
Because there are some obscenely overpowered traits. If you could pick and choose your traits your first three survivors would be functionally unkillable.
I would at least use a 4 spec one so that you can build out characters the way you like, the random aspect of getting specs can really frick you over on fresh lethal runs.
that explains a lot
I remember I tried to make "a base for the white race" but everytime I rushed to help a new group it was the ugliest nogs
I moved map like 2 times into the mountains until I found white people. I understand white flight now
literally me.
It just makes it easier for me to self insert
I want to live on a farm.
lol what the frick is wrong with you frail homosexuals. It's amazing how you notice shit like this, you're obsessed. I've played this game for 200 hours and never once did a character's skeen cola cross my mind.
>everyone should act like I do
Hypocrite calling other people frail. If you've played this game for 200 hours and haven't seen the woke shit they've woven into the fabric of the game then you're deliberately blinding yourself to it or you actively want it. There's no excuse for ignorance.
>muh obsessed
Have you ever play the game? There's literally equal amount of white-asian-mutt-Black person character in the game asset, yet the one that always showed up in game is Black person, mutt, and asian, white character is rare. There's small percentage for players to encounter white survivor in the game world and in the dice roll menu.
Idk man I get mostly white and Hispanics must just be your rig
Does the character being asian or afroamerican affect the gameplay?
Not him but it did feel like most of my recruit options was anything but a white guy half the time
You can use the cheaty community editor to change every aspect of a survivor. Including their race, voice, traits, etc. Every time I get a new survivor I change their appearance.
The fricking log in screen was screaming asian lives matter and that they support blm and non sense. Idk what coolaid they were drinking. The game is still great but damn.
>not cycling through characters til you're a white dadda with a house full of thick Azn and ebony mammas
you fricks are limpdicks die now pls
>character customization mod,
source? does it work on npcs roaming around?
I remember playing this gaem and dropping it due to all the ugly characters
>use this mod
>no longer need to engage in the rolling autism or survival of the fittest with killing off anyone with a bum knee or crap tier skill/community bonus
>devs impotently seethe over players going out of their way to game the system with having practically immortals running around murking everything
I use this but I limit myself and implement a sort of progression system. Here's how I do it. I start a new game with truly random survivors initially (I don't even look at their traits, I just take the first people that show up). Then I mark down their traits and allow those traits to be chosen as inheritable to new survivors I edit (as long as the original survivors are alive and in the current base). So new survivors can keep any traits they have, or remove up to 3 and add up to 3 that currently exist on other survivors.
This allows me to slowly develop beneficial traits across survivors and encourages me to keep everyone alive. Then for new runs with prestige survivors I treat them as if they were randomly rolled. Eventually I'll end up with games with survivors that have 3 great traits each, but it feels like I earned them.
Honestly no, the game starts fun and exciting, but the more you get into it you notice the cracks, and oh boy are they massive
>Making a specialized base is irrelevant since you can capture outposts in the map that offer the same as some buildings (ammo, food, beds, electricity, fuel, etc) so your experience Barry changes no matter what type of leader you choose
>Combat is decent, but you'll realize how easy it is to dodge enemies and backstab them
>Zombies are ok, but human enemies are so fricking bullshit: Can tank headshots, can dodge heavy melee weapons and crossbows so if you have those you might as well have a nice day, they're extremely accurate, and even if they carry a b***h pistol they'll kill you in 2/3 shots (also zombies will be attracted to gunfire and attack you and only you)
>Scavenging gets pretty boring pretty fricking fast
>Most buildings are extremely situational and barely worth the time resources invested in them
>also zombies will be attracted to gunfire and attack you and only you
I ran straight for the enemy survivors when I see a zombie behind me. I swear, a horde of 12 turns into a horde of 3 when I exit their base.
I don't know what game you've been playing but more than once I've managed to run away from hostile survivors who were kicking my ass only for a horde they aggro'd to just wipe them off the map.
Current state is decaying
This. They advertised for the third one and I said out loud, not more of the same shit. But I know it will be, but this time with more black women. Woke BS.
From what I heard the 3rd's development isn't going well.
https://www.eurogamer.net/state-of-decay-3-report-details-troubled-development
>Details published by Kotaku include allegations of sexism and mismanagement at the Microsoft-owned studio, and paint a picture of a game project which is still struggling to get off the ground years after its official reveal.
>State of Decay 3 began pre-production in late 2018, though developers at Undead Labs were reportedly poorly-managed and the project took several team re-organisations to get off the ground. Staff have claimed the game's public announcement in 2020 was too early, and at that point Undead Labs "didn't even know what it was".
Sexism Allegations? Announcing a game before it even leaves pre-production? Isn't this the same shit Blizzard pulled?
That also gave me pause on the purchase.
It's a nice thought but I haven't seen sex mods and I doubt there's a pregnancy mechanic so what's the point? Also you need at minimum two white sisterwives in the colony
>so what's the point?
meh play the hand you're dealt I guess. That being said when I played I went more for the stats and bonuses
You weirdos need help. Seek a psychiatrist then touch grass.
I'm sorry you can't stand the sight of two people bonding over a non-specific mutual fetish
You coombrains try to turn every game into porn. Lay off the dopamine.
It's been a downward spiral of broken updates. They broke the game pretty bad simply to add a Black person shirt last year. Other than that. Great game
give me the QRD
I was waiting for this piece of shit to get down to a reasonable price.
I pirated it, used a trainer to be invincible and beat it, I liked the dlc car or whatever that had the american flag and burned zombies from the sides, it was a cool way to travel.
>I heard it compared to rust-likes and that's a big turnoff for me
you have to be moronic to think that. you shouldn't play SoD2 because it might a little too much for your brain to handle.
>You
just the fact you believed it when someone told you that means you have a little gullible brain
>I heard
>I believed
moron
I played it on Gamepass with a friend for a couple of hours and found it boring. I don't know why, just didn't click.
The most fun I'd have is turning up the difficulty and going out at night. Found you could get fricked up pretty easily doing that. The main issue for me is the gameplay loop just gets boring after a bit.
Fair, I don't care about what race they are in general if there's a decent mix but it felt like most of the time it was asian women and black dudes.
its on GamePass why would you pay for it separately lmao
i'm white and i like to buy my games.
Literally every game you've ever "bought" is a license and not the game. I swear, zoomers don't know what renting shit is anymore.
i don't care, Paco, i'm not using the shitty xbox store app to launch my games.
Black person, it's literally an Xbox game
>Literally every game you've ever "bought" is a license and not the game
Not in the EU, only Americans are enslaved by corporations and subject to this TOS shenanigans.
Doesn't happen often, but I like when Ganker remembers SoD2 exists, it's one of my favourite games, no other game captures it's 'build up an outpost' rpg gameplay with randomized survivors, wish SoD3 would hurry the frick up
Maybe not a favorite, but it's a great game! I really enjoy the loop and it scratches that niche itch.
Going out on the hardest difficulty at night is suicide on all except the best survivors, but I think the sheer ridiculousness plays well to the feeling of utter dread and futility.
everything SoD3 needs is NPC survivors traveling around the world map and a standardized damage formula for survivor x survivor fights so people actually die when they get shot to death on difficulties above baby mode.
i understand this might be a hard concept for you to grasp, but State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition has been available on steam since it was released.
You're already giving Xbox the time of day, their app isn't shittier than steam and doesn't try to be the next epic gaymes
not the anon you're sperging at but
>app isn't shittier
okay moron
>Doesn't try to be the next epic gaymes
It doesn't have to . It's literally shoehorned into one of the most used OS's on the planet
>. It's literally shoehorned into one of the most used OS's on the planet
Which makes it piss easy to use (and disable).
The fact that it would have to be disabled disqualifies it's possibility of being used
>their app isn't shittier than steam
yes it is, everyone i know that owns games on the ms store had problems updating and installing games at least once, sometimes they just decide to glitch out and require you to re-install a 120 gigabyte game, which ruins play sessions. you live in a little world where such problems might not affect you, but i do not, my horizons are broad and i have no interest in dealing with microsoft's shitty app.
but guess what? it doesn't affect you. you can keep playing dirt farmer on gamepass, it doesn't matter to me if you have no standards.
>ms store
ms store isn't the xbox app moron
The MS store is 1000% aids, yes. Who the frick even uses that shit anymore?
>that pic
>implore - to beg
>imply - to suggest
whoever made that pic needs to die in a fire.
Black person, all of you
Does State of Decay 2 still get super fricking boring an hour in? Are they ever going to let me actually build something instead of just moving people from one shitty pre-made base to another until I have the right amount of influence and survivors to be able to move into the one very clearly superior base on each map? What about resource gathering, is it ever going to stop being mind-numbingly tedious?
frick off back to minecraft
Hey guys, look! It's Jeff Strain! How's it going, Mr. Strain? What's keeping you busier, sucking wieners or bungling SoD3's development?
He left to make his own studio in 2021. Possibility Space
>left
nah that was a hostile takeover and he was incentivized to leave on the threat of being canceled.
i remember finding a mod that allowed you to craft shotgun shells and i had the automatic shotgun as wellstopped playing on the second map when i realised id likely never find that again
Eh, skip 2 and just replay the actual best SoD scenario until 3 comes out. fast paced, fun, and no filler
first SoD is good
wish it was fully modable
few changes here and there and it could be great
dead
It's a pretty solid open world zombie survival game. You establish a base, recruit and train survivors.
Fun in the beginning, but gets boring really fast, you constantly in repeat of the same loop and same tasks
feels like there is way too much going on in 2 compared to 1
>special zombies are dumped on you immediately
>enclaves are being attacked every 2 minutes
>7 survivors need help at a time
it's just overwhelming
plus the screamer sound sucks now
I just let groups that are far away get fricked and die. They had the misfortune of choosing a space far away from me. I only keep the useful ones or close ones. The game becomes much more enjoyable when you don't give a shit about half of the groups bellyaching. They'll get wiped out and replaced by another random group.
You can toggle off special zombies, so technically you could turn them off and then turn them on after a while. But yeah legit complaints, still a fun game.
Think more about the time you will waste on this mediocrity as opposed to the 10 dollars.
My 100% unbiased view as someone who’s never even booted up the first game
The gameplay loop is pretty fun, but it’s not a challenge in any difficulty below dread. Lethal is genuinely difficult, and you will make tough choices like booting out survivors to have enough food or sending people on suicidal scavenging runs. Not to mention it has 3 modes, those being Survival, Heartland, and Daybreak
Survival is the standard mode, big open map and random survivors. This is the main mode you play since its the one where you can get attainable progress and see your community flourish. No real story here besides legacy arcs
Heartland is basically survival, but with a genuine story. It takes place in Trumbull valley, where 1 took place. I like the mode, but it doesn’t have much replay value and it’s a bit harder than standard survival since the characters are limited (since its actual people in your community instead of randoms)
Daybreak is the horde mode. You mainly play it to gain rewards in Survival. It’s fun enough as a mindless gamemode, but don’t expect anything amazing (or for your teammates to even help you much)
Speaking of teammates, the game is pretty fun with friends. Makes it piss easy even on Lethal though since they can bring shit from their world (any difficulty) into yours and clear the plague by themselves. The game does have a tether system that’s annoying as shit though, but the range is generous
All around for 10 bucks it’s definitely worth it
t. 216 hours on the game
i played 30 mins of it and uninstalled, why do idiots have shit tastes? Its the very definition of soulless western kusoge. The first game was shit and this is even SHITTIER with no quality control/QoL.
It's decaying.
why?
It's wide as an ocean, shallow as a puddle. That being said, it's a fun game.
For 10 bucks. Yeah. You'll probably enjoy yourself for a couple of hours. If something costs 10 bucks it's gotta be actively crap for it to not be worth your money and I'd say SoD2 is very much a "above average" experience to most, and an autism simulator for some.
I just wish zombies wouldn't hyperfocus the player and nothing but the player just because you're the player and others aren't the player. Makes hostile survivors just a cheesefest instead of an actual fight.
State of Decay 3 better rework the base building system from slot based to grid based.
The way the slots work right now is really limiting and just doesn't allow you to make specialized bases, mainly because some of the buildings are just much too important. You have to have at least 1 guard tower or you'll constantly get fricked by the higher tier sieges which will absolutely wreck your shit. You basically can't skip on a garden (even with the new outposts system added in the last updates) because you'll always need either food or medicine, and of course you can't skip on your leader building either since they're the most powerful. And the game is pretty much impossible without an infirmary and workshop. So that's about 4-5 slots that are always gonna be in use (depending on your leader typer), 2 of which are guaranteed to be small slots no matter your leader. So if an outpost only has 2 small slots available then you're just fricked and can't place any small slot unique buildings.
In a grid system, you have the freedom to place whatever you want as long as you have the space for it. Which is by default way more interesting, and also rewards long-term planning.
Also, FRICK that nighttime lasts twice as long as daytime for some reason. It's not interesting, it's just annoying.
You know what:
cont.
State of Decay 2 is just a bunch of wasted potential. It's what happens when you pander to a wider audience instead of narrowing in. Instead of focussing so much effort on story content and online-based weekly challenges the game should have zoomed in on what makes it unique. The community management and base building. Drop all the other crap. Drop fricking voice acting, drop the absolutely fricking TERRIBLE story, drop the weird challenges, drop all the online modes that nobody plays, focus purely on making the community management and base building interesting. Grid building systems, interesting survivor dynamics/tensions, multiple bases, and an updated outpost system. Make all these systems LARGER, bigger bases, more survivors, bigger maps. Rework the way zombies function, make them more dynamic. Focus on the core. All the other secondary crap only drags the game down.
Also, if you're going to add coop, do it correctly. Don't make it some fricking dark souls-esque summoning system like it is now. Make full coop. Let players build bases and a community together.
Sounds almost like Survivalist Invisible Strain. Wish that game got AA budget instead of being one man development.
No, that's stupid. That would make it a variant of every base building survival game out there. I like character dynamics but they have to find a way to make it better. I want to be playing Rimworld as a third person shooter, where people have reasons to do things to and for each other.
There's thousands of those garbage story-devoid multiplayer-focused games. Hell I've never touched co-op on this at all, they should be leaning away from ot
There isn't a single third person zombie survival community & base-building simulator out there.
I remember I played state of decay 1 years ago. Next day when I got back from work and played it again everything was fricked up on my base. And I never touched it again
>cities bigger than 4 shops slapped together
>weather system
>multi-storey buildings
>hostile npcs rebalanced on higher difficulties
There, I will buy 3 now. More white people would be really nice as well.
>Coop only saves progress for the host
Did they ever fix that shit
False. It saves all the progress for other players as well. They don't have any progress to begin with, that's why there's nothing to save outside of inventory and completed challenges and tired/bitten/dead characters.
>It saves all the progress for other players as well
>They don't have any progress to begin with
Black person
These games feel so soulless.
>Jesper Kyd
not completely
I tried it but it was too woke for me, doesn't even give you the choice to play as a white male. So avoid if you dislike wokeness
