can you get stressed while gaming?

      Anonymous

It can occur in short bursts in a difficult action game or something. But if you want that real, drawn out stress, play Pathologic 2, or The Void, same developers.
      Darkwood was also pretty intense.

Yo wtf I recognized the image from the void and instantly wondered what could possibly be the context for it lol

But yeah all of Ice Pick's shit is stressful gaming. Kino but stressful.

I don't think I'd say ALL of their stuff is stressful.
P1 is trying to be I guess, but I more find that game meditative and relaxing. Haven't played Cargo, but it doesn't seem very intense. Know by Heart was very easy going and relaxing. Franz wasn't particularly intense.

Cargo is literally their shitpost frustration at the industry, you play a knockoff nuts and bolts banjo kazooie to appease literal manbaby morons so that they'll give you enough funding to do what you actually want, and the gods are complete fricking buttholes.

Hundred percent serious. Never heard of know by heart or Franz.

I still should play knock-knock but I lost my backer shit. Pathologic 1, bachelor was like wanting to fricking kill myself in a good way.

In your typical MMO party configuration with randos? Probably tank, there's this built in expectation that the guy taking point both knows where he's going and how to deal with encounters. If your tank is a literal moron (which is most of them) then it's healer I guess.

Healing magic in dungeon meshi requires literal meat and blood as fuel for the spell, or mana from the caster (which is replenished with food and its equivalent in calories).

Basically if you had to regrow 1kg of meat in Dungeon Meshi you'd have to spend 1kg of meat from somewhere else and then some.

In a fantasy world there is no such thing as "world hunger", nor any of the mundane problems of the real world that has come about because of worthless third-worlders breeding out of pace with resources. You don't have any white kingdoms sending billions of gold and food every week to black tribes in a D&D setting.

And if you can magic food out of nothing, why the frick would you ever involve living livestock. And why would magic users ever agree to put their powers to work for such a pointless end? It is literally beneath them. God what a stupid fricking concept.

This. And in most settings including D&D most healing magic isn't instant regenerative bullshit that can be exploited like that.

Final Fantasy for example is about healing your fighting condition, reviving is hard stuff once you're dead. Phoenix down doesn't work on Tellah and Aerith anon.

D&D's commonplace healing magic and potions are magical bandaids. Your heroic character is dodging and tanking most blows, the 0 HP represents that you took the hit.
Remember, the common human has one level in frickwit at most and 4HP. Most livestock animals and normalgay shit barely passes the 10HP threshold. If a succubus flicks anon's dick he fricking dies. Amputation is 95% of the times lethal to most normalgays involved, no healing potion to save your friendly farmer if he eats an orc great axe to the face. The magic that CAN revive or regenerate stuff like what anons want? Extremelly hard to find and whoever can cast that stuff is too busy dealing with hardcore shit to waste time that could be spent fricking FARMING.

Pokémon deals with this in gen 2, and it's specifically with the fast growing tail of one pokémon, potions and shit are also pick me ups.

Fantasy worlds are typically medieval tech. There were few relief programs set in that time period compared to not. Yet people still had famines, and getting food for the populace is a big issue that every society has to content with.

It depends on the setting. In Geneforge the wizards are gods and they created their OWN form of livestock to feed people and to get more power. They're Gods who run the world however, so they run with it

D&D 3e's description of a tarasque was that it was a natural disaster that would constantly come back, so, assuming there were enough lvl 30s to beat the shit out of it, they thought of loophole by making a city where the tarasque would be bound and continually harvested, the double benefit of having infinite resources and to keep it from resurrecting somewhere else as it never dies

Healer if the party isn't chill or if it's a massive party/raid.
Never found tanking to ever be terribly difficult unless there was funny aggro mechanics, or that one time I had to learn about dancing with a boss' LoS on a corner to prevent eating damage. Trying to save my teammates from their suicidal pulls was more fun than stressful.
DPS is a dick-measuring competition but not one I'm terribly pressured to win. The only stress is finding a party without them.

I fricking hate PvE healers. PvE healers I party up often act like they're some sort of king or queen. That's why when Guild Wars 2 removed that role type I thought to myself good riddance, though they've returned it somewhat for raid type content. PvP healers on the other hand, I'd body block a lightning bolt for them. It's the other way around with PvP healers, players would most likely try to blame bad things happening on PvP healers. But one time, I tried to study PvP healer character to know more about them since they are a pain in the ass to kill, ie. learn their timings, skill combos, skill use triggers, etc., and I realized while playing a PvP healer character, it's like a fricking Starcraft 2 game. It's like I'm micromanaging my units and having to keyboard reflex of 400 APM. And here's the thing, rarely do I encounter shitwipe PvP healers, rarely do I hear them complain nor blame their team mates. And knowing PvP healer gameplay is hectic after I've tried it, I kinda want to salute every PvP healer I team up with in games.

I hate healers in pvp games and they ruined WoW/FF14 for me because they were able to make themselves unkillable until their team showed up and kicked your ass. Having to coordinate 2+ players to be able to kill 1 is really dumb.

Nothing more exhilarating than jumping around trying to keep everyone around alive at the same time, while mixing slow healing, burst healing, throwing crowd controls, or just using RDruid's most overpowered tool: the good old "oh look I'm a healer, how about you waste all your time trying to catch me instead of focusing my teammates".

Healers are the biggest basic b***hes, the smug anime girl of roles, they get the most (You)s.
The rest it depends on the game/setting, there's usually different kinds of tanks (dodge/block/etc.) or different flavors of DPS depending on the level of fantasy we're dealing with here.
Tanks and (actual) healers don't have to wait in queue and shitpost since there's always slots for them in their games. Which leads to the conclusion that DPS are actually the shitposters of the board because they are all in the queue the longest and must keep their hands busy waiting for their LFGs to pop.

In a properly balanced RPG there shall not be such division at all as there is none IRL. "Tank" in game can't damage - IRL it pretty much can. Whether you take a medieval knight or modern MBT - once armored death rides on the battlefield there will be fatalities.

Dropped FF14 because being a tank or a healer is fricking painful in that game.
      >Devs nerf content over and over and over so 75% of the community are unironic morons who die to the most mundane shit, turning mindless content into slow mindless content.
      >Regardless of how good you and the other tank/healers are playing there's always ALWAYS some bumblefrick dps in chat screeching because they had do engage their 1 braincell in doing something at some point besides repeating the same rotation for the 3 billionth time.
      >The moronic playerbase can't handle healing or tanking so there's always a shortage. To fix this the dumbfrick devs decided to appeal to the people who don't like healing or tanking by fricking up most of the classes in those roles repeatedly.
      >Boo hoo, the top 0.1% of raiders don't like having to level an alt job to get the super duper optimal raid composition better remove anything that makes the healers feel unique.
      >Boo hoo, the top 0.1% of raiders don't like having to level an alt job to get the super duper optimal raid composition better make every fricking tank feel identical to play
Never seen developer and playerbase so united in one common purpose of sucking as much fun out of a game as possible.

This is the worst shit. I get that most people are smoothbrains and smoothbrains fricking love DPS but the Healer and Tank are the only important parts of the trinity. You could go without a DPS and lose nothing of value.
If it wasn't for damage checks creating something for DPS to do, Raids would genuinely just be better off served being Tank/Healers.
Overwatch unironically proved this true with the GOATs meta. In a situation where you don't need to meet an artificial damage check, you inevitably drift towards healing and tanking.

Playing support is being that backstage worker that is responsible for making sure nothing falls apart. You're not gonna get much praise or any neuron activation points for it, but you damn well know those frickers would've died 5 seconds in if it wasn't for you.

Tho, aggressive support is more fun. Don't like the whole concept of "that class is a healer so they're useless in combat", nah homie let me be able to assist my brothers while fighting the enemy at the same time, create an area around me that buffs or debuffs, cast AoE shit, actually be able to take a hit without folding over like a wet paper towel.
Destiny 2 let me do that as a Strand Titan and Banner of War, where if you kill something in melee, you create a pulsing AoE buff around yourself that heals people and makes their attacks stronger. It goes up to 4x and the duration + strength increases if you or the bozos inside it kill shit. It was the most fun I had being support.

      Anonymous

I want both aggressive and passive support roles to be a thing in RPGs. I often attempt to roleplay a non-violent healer dude who realizes the necessity of violence but can't bring himself to do the deeds on his own so he just heals and casts buffs out the ass. I also like trying to make a "ranger"/outdoorsman character who shoots your head off with a crossbow bolt about yea big but also specializes in healing as a secondary role to help out whatever minion is defending his position.
But oftentime the most I get is a healer that does have to attack things but deals damage that might as well not exist, so I get neither of the two.

As someone who has healed for 15 years. It's not healer. If you are a bad healer, it's stressful, sure. The "I hate everyone" healers are usually shit, and should just go play another role. It's not for you if you're getting mad. People are going to die, it's your job to pick them up. You're supposed to be the guardian angel, not the vindictive butthole.

The most stressful role in an nu-MMO is probably paper "support melee dps", no one appreciates you, you die to a stuff breeze, you have a complicated rotation and you trade off pure damage to boost everyone else's damage. In old MMOs, you might be able to argue healer when they had to manage mana, cooldowns and buffs very carefully, but nowadays they can just mindlessly spam. Pure support perhaps, since everything was timing based, but it depends on the game since in CoH Kin could just press button and roll face on keyboard.

blows my mind when people say healer is easy. try healer in an MMO's later/harder dungeons. its very difficult. its not just "standing in the back and mashing heal", you have to know all the mechanics, have to heal at the right times, have to know when enemies will hit in advance. the healer arguably has to be more "aware" of their position than anyone else, because you are the only one who cannot really afford to make mistakes or the party is dead.

At high end play, everyone should be aware what the boss is doing ahead of time. Remember: sure it's worse if a healer dies, but if you die, no matter what role you are, you are failing. At least I don't have to play rotation memorization on top of doing the mechanics dance.
      t. healer main.

It's really not substantially more difficult than tanks needing to pop interrupts, mitigations, threat, etc. Usually while also positioning the boss and themselves to manage floor effects.

Only DPS get the easy job, all they have to do is follow their class flow chart for optimal damage and not kill themselves to ambient damage

Healers just scale with the group's moronation, you can either basically sleep on the job or you're stressed the frick out. Most other roles are just more individual. I've played all roles in high end PvE shit and I wouldn't really call it stressful unless you're playing with fricking morons all the time. If anything I fricking loathe playing DPS since the advent of logging absolutely everything, you end up sweating every simple attempt because one frickup will cost you your entire parse. Which no one really cared about in the past but nowadays it's like your fricking CV.

Whole part of playing multiplayer games is working as a team, if you consider that a job you can frick off and play with rocks on your own you autist
        >I am better and my sword hurts more than yours

          >If you're so much better, can you tell me why you get atomized by anything stronger than a light breeze?
I don't, my spec is considered to be one of the sturdiest conventional DPS builds since I'm cool and handsome and play bruisers rather than squirmy homogay backliners.

Probably tank because you just stand there letting the monsters beat the shit out of you and you have to hope the rest of your party kill them and keep you alive. You probably don't think of career tanks as appearing stressed, but that's because easily stressed out people don't play it, they play backline roles instead so they can run if shit hits the fan. It's also why you get stuff like your picture. The guy on the left knows everything the girl's saying, he just doesn't find it scary or worrisome or anything. He had confidence they'd succeed - even if it were unwarranted. Confident people are confident in spite of the evidence.

Getting stuck inside a dark, terrifying, and deadly dungeon for a whole month, having to fight, survive, and puzzle solve with trusty companions, and then making it out to see daylight with many stories, exciting moments, and treasure in hand sounds so awesome. When I was younger, I really did not like Fantasy at all, but I get it more and more the older I've gotten. It appeals directly to the kind of adventure I'd want. Too bad not too many D&D campaigns or RPG's never feel like this.
