Not only is that all gone in casual, you have to wait 150 seconds for a match to start, play 2 or 3 rounds until the server becomes completely empty, and get dropped into a pubstomp or finished game.

Casual itself is a dumpsterfire even without bots because you play on a map for only 3 rounds before being booted to a vote menu (no ingame voting). This in turn causes everyone to leave (without bots even) and now you must wait several minutes for people to join your match.
And because that’s the default, new players flock to that shitfest and makes community servers less populated.

Actually the issue was they were not allowed to remove weapons/maps/players from the game and Valve didn't IMMEDIATELY give them thousands of dollars for their tournaments that no one goes to

It still amuses me that even among compgays, they decided to listen to the group of people that refuse to play half the classes in the game and believe that soldier is underpowered because exactly 2 classes are better than it.
Compgay tierlists don’t reflect regular game tierlists because they ban tons of weapons for shitty reasons and have class limits, and also play exclusively 5cp the worst gamemode in the game.
Compgays also hate admitting some shit like Heavy or Engineer actually being good (Both are effectively banned but its totally not because they’re strong or anything).
Imagine actually banning weapons on other classes specifically to nerf another class, limit said class to 1 player, then unironically claim said class is actually bad.

Custom servers are a husk of what they used to be, long gone are the days of exploring the browser and just jumping in a nintendo maps trade server to frick around and explore the place, or trying game modes like warionware or ballon race.
Nowadays its just uncletopia, skial, ugc and the really few deathrun servers, hell official saxton hale killed custom hale servers but tbh those aren't the same as before, its been years since i saw a vs saxton with freak fortress enabled.
Uncletopia is reddit in server form and skial recently disabled objectors and photo badges due issues (aka they shadow banned any kind of lewd problematic content)
Kogasatopia is either dead or full most of the time....god i really want to go back to the pre meet your match days, those were the real golden days of custom servers.

Valve. And Youtubers. Youtubers bear some responsibility but it's nowhere close to Valve. Concern trolls are in there too, getting sprays disabled by default because think of the children playing the mature rated video game.

The state the game is in now just isnt fun, and it took Hell Divers 2 and Deep Rock for me to finally understand that after 7,000 hours.

Even with bots the game was mostly fine, however in these past 3 weeks it's been unplayable. I'm not exaggerating, i haven't found a full lobby (usually 5v5 with bots joining later and kicking the players) or one that isn't full of bots in almost a month now. I have no clue what happened, It takes a long ass time to find a game, sometimes the game will stop looking for a match randomly. In my eyes, the game is genuinely dead now aside from comm servers

you don't have to pay. you can enjoy the game as is. you just won't be able to chat and that's entirely up to you at this point.
It’s silly because that was all the fun about tf2. Talking shit in the chat and having fun with everyone on the server. Not even being able to text or voice chat on a computer game is beyond fricking lame and kills the soul of what multiplayer games are all about.

You don't. All of it is easily avoidable and you can enjoy the game in any way you want.

it worked for some time, but the bot authors seem to have a budget for this, so that restriction is easily skirted.

The state the game is in now just isnt fun, and it took Hell Divers 2 and Deep Rock for me to finally understand that after 7,000 hours.
Valve keeps adding new maps, hats, and unusual effects every update to give an illusion of content like 20+ maps is going to breathe life into this game.
Last year was the first year i actually didnt even bother coming on for screamfortress, i just logged in to smissmas to get the stocking, ive tried booting it and playing but i just have no interest
Mean while with DRG and hell divers they both are regularly updated, even though DRG is going through a dry spot right now, the devs still make time for holiday updates.
Helldivers is getting new weapons and balance changes every other week

Both HD2 and DRG are pve focused games while TF2 is mostly pvp. They’re not really comparable.

The post you're referring to said that they'd might both get class updates in the future, it's a nature of the thing. Even excluding the fact that basically EVERYONE FRICKING BAILED because they were sick of people asking for them to ruin more weapons.
Now they just show up when Eric wants to play a game of TF2 to try out the new maps, but don't actually want to contribute in any meaningful way, like testing new weapons or anything.
Valve getting bored of it and having no financial incentive to keep supporting it.
Like, they totally could have. They've supported Counter-Strike and DOTA both more vigorously and for longer. It has a lasting fanbase over 15 years post launch to the point of even continuing to pick up younger fans. It's crazy, actually.
Like they made shitty decisions like adding the Mann Co. store and matchmaking, but those were things they could've ironed out and fixed if they actually gave enough of a shit to. They just don't. Valve wants to work on hardware and game changing shit- making a videogame isn't enough for them unless it does something seriously fresh, which is why some of the cancelled sequel concepts we've heard of are shit like L4D3 being open world with thousands of zombies active at the same time or HL3 being procgen.
People like to lay shit at the feet of muh compgays or muh botters but Valve is ultimately the only party who could seriously alleviate whatever issues TF2 had or continues to have, and they just don't care that much.

Most servers don't run map rotations anymore. It's all 24/7 shit with a Vote giving people the pretense that they're not joining a 24/7 server.

troony fortress players always complain about try harding in this way. they have yet to realise that they are just less skilled than any other player coming from any other game.
Even with bots the game was mostly fine, however in these past 3 weeks it's been unplayable. I'm not exaggerating, i haven't found a full lobby (usually 5v5 with bots joining later and kicking the players) or one that isn't full of bots in almost a month now. I have no clue what happened, It takes a long ass time to find a game, sometimes the game will stop looking for a match randomly. In my eyes, the game is genuinely dead now aside from comm servers

It's surprising it's still alive with this many players in the first place. The unceasing complaints about it dying seem to do nothing. I think it's because it's a pvp fps that wasn't built to jerk off esports. Instead of having to force teamwork for a result, teamwork results out of the players using their classes naturally.
But yeah, it's downfall mirrors the internet itself. In it's golden age, players who liked the thing for what it is didn't know how good they had it. Then the thing had to be sold to more people, and when everyone and their dog moved in, shit just got bad. Now you've got people high off their farts thinking they're tackling social issues off their youtube channel.
