What makes Mewtwo a Pokemon? It's an artificial life form.

What makes Mewtwo a Pokemon? It's an artificial life form.

I guess this could apply to any artificial Pokemon (like Porygon) but for the sake of argument let's juts isolate the matter to Mewtwo.

Pokemon isn't a technical or biological classification, but a social one. The same as when we say "monster", it can range from a dragon to a zombie. Neither have anything in common, but both are monsters.

It actually is a biological classification. Very explicitly so, in fact. "Pokemon" is a clade.

      >Pokemon isn't a technical or biological classification

It's clearly a biological one considering that they're capable of cross-species reproduction, and have the same powers.

It doesn't fit into the evolutionary tree, can shrink into a pokeball and, most importantly, was made out of a pokemon.

        he should be.

Game Mewtwo wasn't a villain, but he was rampaging.

Yes, anon. You can breed two completely separate species as long as they share an egg group.

It's made from pokemon DNA. If anything you SHOULD have used a purely artificial pokemon like Porygon for this argument.

Cloned from the cells of another Pokemon, Mew. Why wouldn't it be considered a Pokemon? That's like saying a genetically modified clone of a sheep wouldn't be considered an animal. It might not be a sheep but it's still an animal. Pokemon as a scientific classification exists on the kingdom level, like animalia and plantae.

It can shrink to fit in a pokeball. This is the most important criteria for classifying something as a pocket monster, as it is what allows them to fit in your pocket.
