4k is a meme you lose over half your fps for what you'll never notice unless you play only exclusively open world games where the draw distance is huge
1440p is more than enough, 4k is a meme pushed to sell $2000 graphics cards
How do we cope when my favorite strategy games don't scale their fricking fonts and I can't see shit??? I literally have 13 games in my library that I can't play
I upgraded to 1440p from 1090p too early and my performance got hit hard but I couldn't go back to 1080 because it started to look like mud to me. I will never go above 1440p EVER and would rather get better frames with future upgrades.
1440p 27" 165hz
4k is a meme you lose over half your fps for what you'll never notice unless you play only exclusively open world games where the draw distance is huge
4K has 4 times the pixels as 1080p which in modern games comes out to pretty much a quarter of the framerate. so when your shit is stuttering along at 40-70 fps 1080pChads are playing at twice that or more, and potentially with quiet, cheap GPUs. 4K IS a meme.
>4k is a meme
its nice being able to fit 4x the content on your monitor compared to a 1080p display

Once you actually make use of the space you never go back. And why would you run a browser in fullscreen? At 1440p you can have a browser and spotify side by side, or a twitch stream since you most definitely watch xqc

4k but i regret buying that display instead of 1440p
needs dlss for fancier looking games as well but then it kind of works if i settle for 50-60fps on 2070
4k is for the working man who wants more screen real estate however.

I thought I would have trouble with games supporting it, but actually it's been great so far. Games that support 1080p usually support other 16:9 resolutions, and if not then there's probably an easy fix in the config files or a fan patch. I set the desktop scale to 125% though so icons look more like 1080p size.

1440 for everything lower than a 50" monitor.
4k for home theatre.
the difference of 4k is so negligible I'm surprised so many people fall for the marketing and get the newest GPU for their 28" asus monitor
2560x1080 165hz VA
I got it for like $150, I do want a 3440x1440 144hz IPS monitor, but those are still over $1k. I'll get one when they get around the $500 mark, but $1k for a monitor is just fricking stupid considering I can get an OLED TV for that much.
Call it a meme all you want but anything less just feels cramped now.
Its like high refresh rate, seems stupid until you try to go back, then you realize how much of a difference it makes.
Keep calling it a meme though, at least with 16:9 you don't get israeliteed out for anything about 1080p; 16:9 1440p 144Hz IPS monitors are stupid cheap compared to ultrawide and I'm jealous tbh
I called it a meme because I don't see the point in it when you need to keep a high mouse sensitivity to navigate your desktop(unless you're using a twm and a heavy use of shortcuts which I haven't seen a single ultrawidegay use ever)
I also vastly prefer keeping only around 4 programs on screen max at a time and then just use workspaces to access the other programs when I need to. Tasks that need me to use more than 4 at a time are extremely rare for my use cases.
>upgrade to 1440p >relatively obscure and old game I mostly main has engine problems at higher resolutions >the hud doesn't scale properly either >eventually just play at 1080p on it >sell it and get a top-tier 1080p monitor

For me it's the HP Omen X >240hz >1440p >TN (perfect for FPS titles) >fastest response times to date outside of OLED >even down to 60hz it holds its response times (good for that 1 game that runs at 60-120 fps) >3 years of kino already
240p to 1080p. Anything above that is a waste of resources. Fun fact, both sides of that screenshot look the same on my phone. You need a much larger screen to take advantage of anything past 720p.

I'm aware that 1440p would be a marked improvement over 1080 but the shitty reality of lcd contrast and anti-glare coatings has kind of sapped my enthusiasm to upgrade, I can't get excited for something that's going to look more washed out than the meme budget acer ips I got 8 years ago.
Hmmm toughie because of two monitors
I hate alt tabbing and having that second or two of jank because my epic gaming PC is changing resolution. I tried RDR2 at 1080 ultra and got sick of that right quick. Still manage to get 100+ frames in 1440 and cherry picked graphic settings
I'll add that with a visual experience like RDR2, playing at 1080 at 27" or greater looks bad. There is no way to fix the inherited blur, not even hardcore antialiasing. If a game somehow supports borderless window 1080 and stays fullscreen on a 1440 monitor, I'll try that
I don't believe you could tell the difference between 1080 and 4k unless you physically were looking at two different screens at the same time but actually being there physically.
1440p is good enough for me, I could upgrade to a 4k monitor but I really feel like it wouldn't matter at this point. I do think there is a big difference between 1080 and 1440 though.
>I don't believe you could tell the difference between 1080 and 4k unless you physically were looking at two different screens >I do think there is a big difference between 1080 and 1440 though.
I said you couldn't tell the difference UNLESS you actually were looking at two different screens at the same time but physically looking at them in the same room, not on some Youtube video comparison image. You won't be able to tell the difference that way. You have to ACTUALLY see it.

Bought a friends old VG248QE and been having a blast on it (1080p 144hz). So fast and responsive. I honestly feel robbed of time.
1080p but I'm close to the screen so it's okay.
4k is more valuable the closer to the screen you are.
it's the other way around, you benefit more from a higher resolution the closer you stand to the monitor
1440p~. 4k would be nice though since I don't play that many demanding games nowadays.

So going through the thread I can see that the sweet spot is 1080p, 1440p is for people in denial that they wasted money, and 4k is for morons.
1080p and 1440p are similar in price though.
1080p is ok, everything is clear but there's pixelation and graniness to it that's very noticeable.
I use an ancient asus 248qe and I will not upgrade till it breaks
That was my previous monitor. It didn't outright break but the quality of the picture degraded over time in various ways.
1080p, and i'm fine with it.
would like to upgrade to 1440p in the future, when i'll upgrade my config (GPU is a 1060)
what good 1440p monitor do you anons recommend?
Check out the MSI Optix MAG274QRF. Wait until you upgrade though.
1080p, 144hz
what, you need more?
1440p on a 4k display
Same because I'm not HDMI 2.1 compliant but still get 1440p/120hz
>I'm not HDMI 2.1 compliant
woah we got a badass criminal over here
4K upscaled on my 1440p monitor.
If a 4k144hz g-sync monitor with very thin bezels happens, I'll get it.
Anything more than 480p 30FPS is wasteful
4k at 120Hz refresh rate, FPS limited to 118 to keep it in the variable refresh rate interval and to avoid extra input lag from using VSync.
