Forza Horizon was a little too goofy. Dirt Rally is fun but it's just rally. I want a game with a career mode where I can own and tune and race a bunch of cars. But not an autistic sim. What is it?

I liked the garage collecting and racing aspects of it. well... aside from the fact that if you turn on realistic damage your car will get damaged and none of the opponents' will... and some of the story missions are designed for you to have turned the damage model off so they're flat out impossible otherwise.

I 100% agree. Fricking stone age loading times with xbox users, but at least it's vastly improved since release. For one a lot of those people have quit but for another the loading times were massively reduced. You can still easily tell when you have a PC-only lobby though, you don't even have time to alt tab and do other shit in between races.

The ghosting is proximity-based unless you go WAY out of bounds in which case it'll ghost you because it thinks you're up to some shit. In that case he ghosted because he slammed into that wall and was about to be stationary but the system can't always discern between "this guy just ate shit and it's going to frick the other guy, too bad" and "this guy is sitting on the track to roadblock someone". Like I said, not perfect.

Anyway, enough FH5postan. There's a league of haters who don't play the games but act as the arbiters of taste here on Ganker, which always cracks me up. I played GT2/3/4/5 too guys, you're not special.

idk... seems pretty iffy if you just "get ghosted" all of a sudden while driving in the middle of a lane.
don't really care what "proximity-based" buzzwords the microsoft techs have to throw at you at that point. being able to go phase through an opponent like thin air is a MAJOR FACTOR in a racing game.

I think if you played online a lot you would eventually come to the conclusion it's a pretty reasonable system. It mostly likes to ghost people when there's a severe speed differential in a corner usually indicative of ramming (eg. someone approaching from behind without braking) -- but sometimes it will interpret "this much higher-skilled player is taking a corner 40 km/h faster than a newer player" as intent to ram and ghost you through the guy from behind because it thinks you're ramming. There are other problems with ghosting, too, like ghost desync, but that's another kettle of fish. Trust me, the alternative is so much worse in FH. But I'm still looking forward to FM8 and whatever they do there.

but I don't really care if it's "reasonable"
I have zero interest playing online.
I don't care if they made an adequate compromise at keeping all the Black folks and brown people who get the game free on their XBOX SERIES S GAME PASS from wrecking into you.
that's like a whole other sphere of issues I don't even want to dip my toes into.
all that eliminated, FM5 is pretty stale. the car models are gorgeous, the audio would be nice if it weren't for the commentators, but the races themselves... well, they're pretty boring to be honest. and when they're not boring, they're "JUMP THIS 200 METER DROP" moronic. I'd just like to take some corners cleanly if you know what I mean.

FM5/6/7 are all pretty mediocre as racing games honestly. The real reason I look forward to 8 is because it's new and they've hopefully learned from FM7 not being very good... and hopefully looked at GT7 and gone "hmmm" a little bit.

Nobody likes ghosting, Anon. However, what you have to understand is that the average Forza Horizon player is a literal 5-year-old from Brazil. Without aggressive measures like this, the outcome of any multiplayer race is essentially decided by a diceroll at T1.

FH used to not have ghosting and if you rubbed your braincells together for literally 2 seconds you'd see why that was bad. Is it a great racing game? Yes. Is it played primarily by 10-15 year olds who want to ram you in corners? Also yes. Can you still have fantastic races against other similarly-minded people? Yes.

The system ghosts you when it thinks you are trying to ram or being rammed (as well as for the first 25s of a race), and it honestly works pretty well most of the time -- nowhere near perfect though, as you'd expect. The same system is in GT7, so not totally sure why you're so angry about it.

I don't play console games anymore.
It's not about the money. I have the money. I could buy a PS5. But all my LOGICAL REASONING tells me how much of a sucker move it is to buy into one of those ecosystems. I can't justify it. No matter if it allows me to play the Gran Turismo, I'd still feel like a sucker more than I ever enjoyed the game.

I'm the type of guy who doesn't own a smartphone in 2023 despite making a six digit income. And no, I'm not autistic. I just try to live up to my principles.

          > legitimately don't have an analogous game anywhere else on the market. Believe me, I've tried and nothing else scratches that itch the same way
Yeah, I believe that. All I wan't is the next best.

I think Test Drive Unlimited 1 or 2 are what you're looking for. They're delisted though, but there's fan made servers to bring back the online functions.

Can someone explain to me what does multiplayer live service garbage like FH have to do with GT-likes that have a career mode?
