What should I get if I want "a car game" like Gran Turismo on PC?
Forza Horizon was a little too goofy. Dirt Rally is fun but it's just rally. I want a game with a career mode where I can own and tune and race a bunch of cars. But not an autistic sim. What is it?
gran turismo
not on pc
emulation anon
Gran Turismo
isn't forza motorsport the realistic one?
sounds like that's what you want
Forza Motorsport 6 or 7
Assetto Corsa is fine too.
Assetto Corsa isn't for someone who wants a progression system. I guess it's only for those who enjoy modding since racing sim guy prefer playing ACC or iRacing
forza motorsport but I insist you to wait for a new one coming this october
but then I'll have to wait another 24 months for all the bugs to be ironed out and the full game to be released...
are the ones already out any good? last forza I played was 2 on the 360.
if you're THAT type of people I suggest you not to play any games cause there can be bugs
I'm not THAT type who can't stand a game having a single bug.
I'm THAT type who buys games only a year after the "GOTY edition" comes out because I see no rush in playing an inferior product since you're basically a beta tester buying games on launch these days.
it'll be on gamepass tho
there's keys in the wild
and yes OP Project Cars 3 is a bad one
It was ok. I didn't like the progression system but it had a lot of content. In any case, Forza 7 was delisted too. You just have to wait for the new one, goyim.
alright I'll try this
>Forza Motorsport 7: Ultimate Edition v1.174.4791.2 + All DLCs + Multiplayer [FitGirl Repack]
and if it's bad I will blame you
it's not about the money. the time investment is much more important. I don't want to play a game at a less-than-finished state when there are ten thousand other games on Steam.
blame me if you want, but like I said it was ok at best
if you have any better ideas I'm all ears
kinda tough mindset in the age of liveservice games but you do you
literally has never stopped me from playing any game I want to because I'm not a 12yo hypebeast who has to play the flavor of the month his favorite streamer is playing
Forza horizon is for you if you don't want a simulator.
the "Black person wiener sucking game"
Project Cars 2 was the closest, but I think it was ~~*delisted*~~
FM6
But in the end I just play FH5 and make my own fun
I put a decent amount of hours into horizon 5 but too many things were getting in the way of me having my own fun.
like how I had to play the game muted because none of the audio sliders in the settings did anything so I still had to listen to the QUIRKY DIALOGUE after each race.
The single player is an extreme cringefest for 10 year olds but I mostly do online races or rivals time trials. That's where the actual fun is.
I liked the garage collecting and racing aspects of it. well... aside from the fact that if you turn on realistic damage your car will get damaged and none of the opponents' will... and some of the story missions are designed for you to have turned the damage model off so they're flat out impossible otherwise.
online would be good if you could filter out HDD/of xbone users so it doesn't take ages to load each race
I 100% agree. Fricking stone age loading times with xbox users, but at least it's vastly improved since release. For one a lot of those people have quit but for another the loading times were massively reduced. You can still easily tell when you have a PC-only lobby though, you don't even have time to alt tab and do other shit in between races.
Same. Then this unrealisitc annoying exhaust popping sound on any cars driving me crazy. No way to turn it off or less. And then you can't just enjoy free driving and drifting some corners because everywhere there is either a speed trap zone with that annoying ticking sound or a fricking drift zone with counter, etc.
I hate this shitty festival theme.
ahh so sad I'm literally puking after 300h in FH5
wanna play FM8 badly
I've put in 750 hours of play and probably another hundred editing videos of it for fun. Definitely keen on FM8, mildly optimistic that it'll be good. If nothing else, pretty much the whole fh5 crew of [4ch] wants to play it.
i'd be paranoid as frick joining a Ganker crew, especially on a microsoft game. phil said "this is not the platform for free speech", I can imagine some autistic mod at playground games permabanning you from your MS account over just having [4ch].
forza doesn't have chat
I know it doesn't. I'd be paranoid to even have [4ch] before my name.
autism
>Get really, really deep into the Assetto Corsa mods rabbit hole
that's sorta what I tried to avoid with the whole
>not an autistic sim
autism
We have an xbox club chat but pgg doesn't really give a shit. They don't have enough interns for that kind of stuff and besides, MS doesn't give a flying frick what happens on fh5.
Might as well just play GTAV....
homosexuals who play Forza Horizon are not welcome in racing game discussion
This point of view never ceases to amuse me. I'd be better than you at any racing game you picked anon
>clip starts with you noclipping through an opponent
>you posting it like that's "just a thing racing games have"
makes me think
I've played all the "great" racing games anon, even the ones without ghosting. Luckily this isn't a simulator autism thread so I don't have to post my mediocre playing-ACC-with-controller videos
I understand the need to combat griefing in online play, but... that audi seemed to be right inside the lines.
if whatever line he's taking is deemed "outside of play" then heck that game seems pretty lame ngl
also that cyan car to the right seems to have collision on despite going all the way to the grass, so...?
The ghosting is proximity-based unless you go WAY out of bounds in which case it'll ghost you because it thinks you're up to some shit. In that case he ghosted because he slammed into that wall and was about to be stationary but the system can't always discern between "this guy just ate shit and it's going to frick the other guy, too bad" and "this guy is sitting on the track to roadblock someone". Like I said, not perfect.
Anyway, enough FH5postan. There's a league of haters who don't play the games but act as the arbiters of taste here on Ganker, which always cracks me up. I played GT2/3/4/5 too guys, you're not special.
idk... seems pretty iffy if you just "get ghosted" all of a sudden while driving in the middle of a lane.
don't really care what "proximity-based" buzzwords the microsoft techs have to throw at you at that point. being able to go phase through an opponent like thin air is a MAJOR FACTOR in a racing game.
I think if you played online a lot you would eventually come to the conclusion it's a pretty reasonable system. It mostly likes to ghost people when there's a severe speed differential in a corner usually indicative of ramming (eg. someone approaching from behind without braking) -- but sometimes it will interpret "this much higher-skilled player is taking a corner 40 km/h faster than a newer player" as intent to ram and ghost you through the guy from behind because it thinks you're ramming. There are other problems with ghosting, too, like ghost desync, but that's another kettle of fish. Trust me, the alternative is so much worse in FH. But I'm still looking forward to FM8 and whatever they do there.
but I don't really care if it's "reasonable"
I have zero interest playing online.
I don't care if they made an adequate compromise at keeping all the Black folks and brown people who get the game free on their XBOX SERIES S GAME PASS from wrecking into you.
that's like a whole other sphere of issues I don't even want to dip my toes into.
all that eliminated, FM5 is pretty stale. the car models are gorgeous, the audio would be nice if it weren't for the commentators, but the races themselves... well, they're pretty boring to be honest. and when they're not boring, they're "JUMP THIS 200 METER DROP" moronic. I'd just like to take some corners cleanly if you know what I mean.
FM5/6/7 are all pretty mediocre as racing games honestly. The real reason I look forward to 8 is because it's new and they've hopefully learned from FM7 not being very good... and hopefully looked at GT7 and gone "hmmm" a little bit.
so what you're saying is... I should emulate old GTs...
well, FM7 is done installing anyway
based
I hope you enjoy FM7, I didn't, though I did enjoy 6
thanks. I hope I will too
>enough FH5postan. There's a league of haters who don't play the games but act as the arbiters of taste here on Ganker,
also I did play that game for at least 50 hours so I'm not blindly hating
Nobody likes ghosting, Anon. However, what you have to understand is that the average Forza Horizon player is a literal 5-year-old from Brazil. Without aggressive measures like this, the outcome of any multiplayer race is essentially decided by a diceroll at T1.
exactly. and I accept that. that's why I play offline. and I'm looking for a game designed to be played that way.
forgot pic
>that webm
the lack of self awareness in this post is astounding
that's a mechanic to prevent morons crashing into each other at the beginning of a race..
FH used to not have ghosting and if you rubbed your braincells together for literally 2 seconds you'd see why that was bad. Is it a great racing game? Yes. Is it played primarily by 10-15 year olds who want to ram you in corners? Also yes. Can you still have fantastic races against other similarly-minded people? Yes.
The system ghosts you when it thinks you are trying to ram or being rammed (as well as for the first 25s of a race), and it honestly works pretty well most of the time -- nowhere near perfect though, as you'd expect. The same system is in GT7, so not totally sure why you're so angry about it.
>Weird mario kart/rocket league esque chat commands
>Slide through a car because you're going 130kmh
>Whatever the frick that subaru is doing
This shit looks pretty fruity
>Weird mario kart/rocket league esque chat commands
that's one of the things I hate the most about forza, they don't have the balls to implement a normal chat because >MUH TOXICITY so they instead bloat the wheelspin and accolade rewards with moronic text lines nobody's ever going to use
>they're more about the cars themselves than actually driving them
lol
lmao
I wish they made the early progression less moronic but FH is the closest you'll get to Gran Turismo car collectathon autismo other than FM. They even have a similar identity crisis where they're poor simulators but still have a lot of depth in the mechanics and presentation, they're more about the cars themselves than actually driving them.
>racing line
have a nice day
I turn it off for fun sometimes
>Forza (Horizon)
No progression, overpowered cars handed like candy, cheating AI
>Asseto Corsa
No career progression, UI/UX is an aftertought
If you want a racing game on PC with RPG elements and a sense of progression you are much better off emulating GT.
no joke I was thinking of emulating GT4 as a viable solution
>UI/UX is an aftertought
get content manager and a HUD mod of your choice
Sold on both ones.
Emulate GT3
car racing genre was perfected with NFSU2.
there have been no good car games since
surprised that EA havent at least tried to recapture its greatness
They did, with Unbound. And it was fricking shit.
I have to say I loved NFSU more than 2.
probably "right place at the right time" kinda thing. not going to argue it was better.
They tried TWICE with Unbound as
said and with NFS (2015)
Both felt harsh to play through
Track design sucks in UG2, the street racing genre was perfected with TXR3 and TXRD2
and open world while looking nice becomes a chore to drive through to the next event after unlocking second area
How about NFS Heat?
It was neat
GT on emulators
Grid. But GT on emulators is true too
Emulate GT 1-4.
Also use the simulation tires in GT2 and it gets hardcore as frick.
idk I played the shit out of GT1 and 2 on the original hardware so I'd rather emulate one of the PS2 or 3 games I haven't touched
GT4 is the best.
the new randomizer mod for GT4 is the best fun i had in years.
I just happened to watch a GT4 youtube video the other day.
I suppose that's what triggered my hankering for a good racing game.
The new forza motorsport will hopefully fit the bill. Otherwise heavily modded assetto corsa.
>confirmed for live service garbage
>thinking you're not gonna get cars rained on you after both FM7 and FH5 did it and were well received by the general public
The single player career style progression of old GTs is dead and buried, never to come back.
>What should I get if I want "a car game" like Gran Turismo on PC?
Project Cars 2
emulating Gran Turismo
TOCA and Grid
Get really, really deep into the Assetto Corsa mods rabbit hole
I am saying this because what you want does not exist on PC. Maybe the new Forza Motorsport will buck the trend, but I doubt it considering the last trailer I saw all they spoke about was graphics and day/night cycles
assetto corsa is fun and all but i wouldn't sell it as a replacement for gran turismo, even with all the mods (most are shit quality/outdated) it doesn't have any progression to speak of (except that one paywalled mod)
Yeah I agree with you.
As ridiculous as it may sound and I don't know how old you are/how much disposable income you have but, if you really want to play Gran Turismo why not just buy a PS5? It's one of those few games that legitimately don't have an analogous game anywhere else on the market. Believe me, I've tried and nothing else scratches that itch the same way. That said, I didn't buy one I just accepted it wasn't going to happen and played other stuff.
I don't play console games anymore.
It's not about the money. I have the money. I could buy a PS5. But all my LOGICAL REASONING tells me how much of a sucker move it is to buy into one of those ecosystems. I can't justify it. No matter if it allows me to play the Gran Turismo, I'd still feel like a sucker more than I ever enjoyed the game.
I'm the type of guy who doesn't own a smartphone in 2023 despite making a six digit income. And no, I'm not autistic. I just try to live up to my principles.
> legitimately don't have an analogous game anywhere else on the market. Believe me, I've tried and nothing else scratches that itch the same way
Yeah, I believe that. All I wan't is the next best.
emulate Dreamcast sega gt with redream
Yeah, that was a good Gran Turismo clone
I think Test Drive Unlimited 1 or 2 are what you're looking for. They're delisted though, but there's fan made servers to bring back the online functions.
how do cargays decide to choose which car they like they all look the same to me
>dude ford
>dude nissan
>dude volkswagon
i literally cannot see the difference
You wouldn't get it
It's about what each car represents
Can someone explain to me what does multiplayer live service garbage like FH have to do with GT-likes that have a career mode?
