Rick, Sticky and Cheeks cared for her almost if not as much as Brad, they would have never done anything to her, not even consider it, they were probably bigger and more responsible parental figures than Brad half of the time.
Like hell they cared. They wanted to hand her over to Rando to be turned into a breeding sow for the rewards it’d get them, and filled her head with delusions that she needed to save the world by being impregnated. Brad wasn’t the best father, but he loved her more and tried harder for her than those buttholes.
Come to think of it, what happened to his "son" after the Flash? Rick implies something happened to him in an incredibly old gameplay trailer, but that was at a point when the uncles were going to be party members, so that might not be canon anymore.
The story was almost if not entirely rewritten through development

I think The Joyful's main issue is that it's a DLC epilogue rather than its own full game. It doesn't have time to flesh out Buddy with a full character arc where we can see her slowly transform from the crying child at the end of The Painful to the drug addicted would-be warlord she is at the end of The Joyful. She just kind of jumps into the deep end of mass murder from the start and stays there.
DL didn’t even want to make it, but felt like he had to do it because it was a Kickstarter goal. When you don’t have a genuine passion to do something, you end up doing a bad job.
>nooooo i need everything explained to meeeee
I fricking hate you homosexuals. It was a story about a man on his journey to redeem himself. And as such it was complete and didn't need any addendums.
And Buzzo being some nigh unkillable psychopath obsessed with Brad since long before the White Flash didn't raise a single question in terms of payoff?
I didn't really care about Yado or his barebones motivation in fricking up the world, but I didn't mind having a bit more explanation of the guy that had been stalking and tormenting Brad for longer than fricking Marty.

That's good that the questions were risen. Doesn't mean they needed to be answered. Lisa is good as it is precisely because there's all of this seemingly important larger that the world shit going on, but you play as a man who cares for none of it. Leaving stuff, seemingly important stuff, to one's imagination is quintessential in creating a great work of storytelling. Dumping exposition and spoonfeeding the audience with answers to all the mysteries are signs of a hack.

There are plenty of things at play in the larger world that Brad doesn't care about because of his personal baggage and motivations that don't tie back to any of it, but Buzzo has been a major part of that baggage ever since he mutilated Dusty.
There’s also the fact that Joyful was supposed to be a side campaign like RE4’s Separate Ways, and was supposed to focus on what Buddy was doing during Painful. The story ended up changing throughout development to the point where Brad didn’t bite her head off at the end, so he felt like he had to change Joyful into a sequel/epilogue to finish the series, and move on to something else.
Yeah. It was supposed to end with Buddy hugging Brad, him fully mutating on the spot, and biting her head off. It probably changed really late into development, since the credits still feature TASTE HER and IT’S YOUR FAULT.

Yeah, it just sounds like a genuinely hateful slap in the face of anybody who played up to that point.
Fun Fact: Percy was Austin’s way of keeping Rick as a party member in the final game, since he has all of Rick’s moves, and he’s a recolor of him. Percy was also intended to be in Fardy’s place, and get raped by tons of men after getting mistaken for Buddy, since he had a fat ass.
Would things have gone better if Brad just sat down and told his friends about what happened to Lisa, and why he can’t allow the same to happen to Buddy?
>the whole point of the definitive edition is to make a one hour long fight with Marty

The worst part of DE is it makes it obvious he's completely lost his ambition. Remember when he did an 8ch AMA where he said he was dissatisfied with Painful and expressed wanting to remake it from the ground up into a better game because he thought that was what his fans deserved? That Austin would never have been satisfied calling something like DE "definitive."
Definitive Edition is bad not just because of the censorship or gameplay changes and story retcons, but because it essentially said "you can't fix the game or we will strike you down".
Also, >that borderlands Nern monologue >coincidentally the first one I've encountered that made me drop this piece if shit remaster before reaching the second crossroad
God I fricking hate American humour.
An anon once said that the game is a kind of Truman show and that the world is still normal outside the dome or some shit like that. I don't know why he concluded that.
I also heard it somewhere that the flash could only affect Olathe. Yado himself said that the place was perfect for his experiment because it is basically a place full of nothing but moronic hillbillies.
He literally worked for the army that could be capable of developing a biological weapon. Also the dev said that Brad finding Buddy was a part of his grand plan.
Joy was a failed battle drug. Have you played the damn game?
Anonymous
Yes. Joy was the weapon he was contracted by the military to make, and it was apart of his plan to take over the world from the beginning. He always knew that it makes you go psychotic and turn into a monster, and the other scientists thought it was a failure because they didn’t know he true plan. He was going to lie about it being a success, get as many soldiers as possible to take it while also giving it to civilians through Joy Boys and drug dealers, and when enough people ended up dying or mutating, he’d use his trumpet to take over. The Flash wasn’t apart of his plan, nor was giving Nancy to Brad. He just found out it was going to happen, and found a way to protect his wife so he could come up with a back up plan, which was to destroy the world by having everyone tearing each other apart over the last girl. Buzzo was the one who came up with the plan to give Nancy to Brad, and Yado accepted because his plan would still go into effect either way.

He said Buddy was his least favourite character and that's honestly understandable. As for Lisa, when he said she was the worst person it was meant to be a play on the "best girl" meme and since everything in olathe is terrible Lisa would be "worst girl", but people misunderstood the frick out of that.

It's strange that even back then he recognized Buddy's writing wasn't the best, yet her new dialogue in DE is arguably worse than base Joyful's.

As long as Buzzo finally gets taken down a peg, and it makes every Buzzogay seethe, it’s worth it.
That theory is based off of Nern's comments about the day/night cycle in Olathe being strange ever since the Flash, plus one of Buzzo's comments that implied there were still women left somewhere. People concluded that Olathe was basically quarantined after being ravaged by Joy, existing in its own little dome, but that the world outside was fine.
Austin clarified recently that Buzzo was lying about there being women elsewhere, so I don't know if the theory still holds water, though.
Too bad Rando couldn't convince Buddy to just leave Olathe. I know the border is guarded by mutants but they could have tore through them. We already know Yado was looking out for Buddy with Princess and it's not like Buzzo wouldn't step in if they really went that route.
Why did Rando have to be so bad with his words? Frick sake.
Cuz even if the other areas are plagued with mutants it's not like they are much worse than the warlords. Most of them aren't even mobile.

Because Rando wanted to use Buddy repopulate the world, and Buddy decided she didn’t want to be used or controlled by anyone ever again. As for being a Warlord, I’m not even sure how he became one in the first place when he can barely even talk.

Right he does say that towards the start of Joyful but he also says later on he wants her to have a normal childhood. I guess the idea is in a few years it's something he'd broach her about? Again, it would have been nice if he explained it wasn't about controlling her but I guess the idea is she wouldn't have ever bought that? Even with her interaction with Tooley.

It's worse than that, since both of them aren't even Armstrong's by blood. Just KNOWING Brad made them worse. Same with Lisa and Buzzo.
Brad, Lisa, and just about everyone associated with them could’ve done things differently to get a better outcome, but their upbringings resulted in them making terrible choices down the line.
In fairness Yado guaranteed that Buddy's take-over would fail. If it wasn't for the mutants the warlords were holding back it might not have been total game over.

Why did Garth and Roger turn against Brad? If the Rando Army got Buddy, and it resulted in more women being born, wouldn’t that be a bad thing for their businesses that exist because there are no women?

She really isn't THAT edgy. She at least has a reason to be killing people. Plenty of morbid games with far worse characters edge-wise. Fricking Wolf from Darkwood is just flat out disgusting by the end of the game.
Be the change you want to see anon. Plenty of fanegames but no one has done a rule 63 version of painful/joyful. Been talked about plenty though. Not really sure it's worth it. All you'd really be doing is changing sprites and some dialogue.
I think there’d need to be a lot of changes for the story to work, since women are fundamentally different from men, and I can’t see them going after an 11 year old boy who’s balls haven’t even dropped yet.
The implication is Buddy's ovaries dropped, so why wouldn't Buddies balls have dropped? And again, be the change you want to see. What would you replace the gym, Beehive, and wrestling arena with?
>All women apocalypse >Survivors live for booze, Joy and vibrators >Instead of mags being currency, it's batteries
Shitty romance novels and fujoshit fanart would be currency, cmon now.
Don’t know about the others, but I think an obvious change would be to change the Salvation Rangers into a Sailor Moon parody instead of a Power Rangers parody.
I think my version of a gender swapped Lisa that changes things up enough to set it apart from the original, but keeps the most important stuff the same, was a fic called Little Sun. Got cancelled though.
>Mama Brad finds out the "Women's Hair Club" has the last boy on earth and they're whoring him out >Along the way over she keeps hearing how the boy is "Ugly but hung" and "Fricks like an animal" >She finally gets to where they're keeping him >It's just a donkey in a dark room
Male Buddy at the very least wouldn’t have to worry about going through pregnancy, but that also means he might be the last human alive and be completely alone without a child in Joyful’s ending. He also might not be able to get women pregnant, since he hasn’t gone through puberty yet, and FemOlathe would populated by mostly ugly middle aged hags with no eggs.
I thought Joyful had really fun gameplay. Holding button to sprint and jumps being one tile longer feels really freeing after playing Painful. The difference in combat was also interesting, especially since it has the same base as Painful. A more difficult and skill-based combat gameplay was fun to play, and there was only one optional fight that felt poorly balanced. Joyful did have weaker writing overall however, especially with the secret/bonus content. A lot of that dialogue felt a bit juvenile, over the top, and needs more polishing.
Joyful could've been a prequel where we played as Rando as he rised in ranks as a warlord. We could encounter established characters through out the game and new ones in the form of the bosses from Joyful.
He didn’t want to. I think he’s stated that before. He was more or less forced to make it because it was a backer goal that he didn’t think anyone would reach.
You can tell the stuff he had planned beforehand and didn't manage to fit in Painful, Terry's backstory, and the shit he came up with for Joyful because of how different their quality is.
I sincerely dont care what Austins intended ending is. The joyful doesnt exist and this is the canon ending of the painful. Its the only version of the story thats even remotely compelling by the end >abused child turned abuser >overbearing overprotective father figure who fricked everything up >finally makes the decision to give all of himself to protecting his surrogate daughter and friends >always taking the most painful path forward, not by circumstance but by choice, and always moving forward in the ultimate display of the unwavering human spirit
its not even a happy end, but its heroic and contrasts brilliantly with how shitty the rest of the game wants to be
Rage cared about Brad as a friend, like a lot of the earlier party members that Brad gets to join him. He was either playing the heel so Brad wouldn’t hold back, or he was being honest and felt like shit about it.
Brad since he's actually trained in a martial arts style compared to Alex who just trained off of one video tape and is slowly remembering how to do that stuff after years
It's a world of men with no purpose just finding ways to pass the time. If it wasn't for all the violence and mutated monsters it would actually be quite comfy.

Birdie. Even with the nerfs he’s still amazing.
She was too much of an edgelord in the sequel it was kind of cringe. And this is coming from someone who loves edgelords like Shadow
She’s so edgy that Infinite’s theme is actually fitting for her.

I can see that, but I feel like too much is left open with characters like Buzzo to say that The Painful should have stayed completely standalone
I understand, but I would’ve preferred Painful being the ending point if it meant no Joyful. The fans could’ve come up with a better sequel.
>The fans could’ve come up with a better sequel.
I've seen half a dozen solid Lisa fan-projects but I don't think any of them were ever finished
Hopeful got finished. A bunch of others are still in development though, and they’re making more progress than the Monster Update.
>nooooo i need everything explained to meeeee
So through development of the whole main game, Buddy was always intended to die at the end. Didn't expect that.
Yeah. It was supposed to end with Buddy hugging Brad, him fully mutating on the spot, and biting her head off. It probably changed really late into development, since the credits still feature TASTE HER and IT’S YOUR FAULT.
I wasn't a huge fan of Joyful but I prefer what we got in terms of The Painful's ending.
That just sounds like a terrible ending.
it was probably for the best that didn't happen.
Joyful wasn't amazing or even great but that would have been an awful ending.
Yeah, it just sounds like a genuinely hateful slap in the face of anybody who played up to that point.
why is this game named after a simpsons character
Because you touch yourself at night.
What were Brad's canon actions?
What would be the actions taken in an adaptation (for your viewing pleasure)?
No arms, Joyless, one nipple, and hug. Brad should try as hard as he can to be a good person, but still fail in the end, and get his hug.
Would things have gone better if Brad just sat down and told his friends about what happened to Lisa, and why he can’t allow the same to happen to Buddy?
He was a complete failure of a father, but still better than Marty.
All LISA The First games are cursed.
>the whole point of the definitive edition is to make a one hour long fight with Marty
Ok we get it, your girlfriend was abused by her father, can we please get some good fricking content instead of getting this shit hammered into our heads for a decade?
DE also came with a bunch of official translations for Painful and Joyful.
He really just doesn’t want to make games anymore. His wife was the one who pushed him into contacting Serenity Forge.
>we'll never get the Hotline Miami x Monster Hunter game he described Ninja Tears as
Sad, but true.
Maybe his wife can nag him into getting off his ass and making another game, but it’s clear he has zero passion for it at the moment.
Definitive Edition is bad not just because of the censorship or gameplay changes and story retcons, but because it essentially said "you can't fix the game or we will strike you down".
Only bad thing about DE is Work Harder getting ruined.
Also,
>that borderlands Nern monologue
>coincidentally the first one I've encountered that made me drop this piece if shit remaster before reaching the second crossroad
God I fricking hate American humour.
What does Borderlands have to do with anything? Nern was always like that. Are you just coming up with stuff to be upset with?
An anon once said that the game is a kind of Truman show and that the world is still normal outside the dome or some shit like that. I don't know why he concluded that.
I also heard it somewhere that the flash could only affect Olathe. Yado himself said that the place was perfect for his experiment because it is basically a place full of nothing but moronic hillbillies.
We only know about him making Joy. Nothing really points to him being responsible for the Flash, and it seems more supernatural in origin.
He literally worked for the army that could be capable of developing a biological weapon. Also the dev said that Brad finding Buddy was a part of his grand plan.
The weapon was Joy.
Joy was a failed battle drug. Have you played the damn game?
I think that the Flash was caused by Lisa in some capacity, and that Mrs. Yado was spared because she’s really Mrs. Armstrong.
>nor was giving Nancy to Brad
Stop embarrassing yourself.
Dingaling’s Twitter answers shouldn’t be taken as fact. He said Lisa and Buddy were the worst, then said they weren’t.
He said Buddy was his least favourite character and that's honestly understandable. As for Lisa, when he said she was the worst person it was meant to be a play on the "best girl" meme and since everything in olathe is terrible Lisa would be "worst girl", but people misunderstood the frick out of that.
He elaborated that he was just being edgy with a lot of his answers back in the day, and what he actually meant was that Lisa and Buddy were the worst written characters, not worst as in a judgment of character.
It's strange that even back then he recognized Buddy's writing wasn't the best, yet her new dialogue in DE is arguably worse than base Joyful's.
As long as Buzzo gets destroyed and humiliated, I’ll accept it.
M8 it's been almost 9 years, making old games worse to clear plot threads ain't worth it.
He just said that Buddy was the last woman in Olathe, and didn’t elaborate on what was happening outside of it.
This is now canon.
It's always been canon. Those nightmares he had confirmed it.
Why is one of them trying to pull his pants down?
qrd on this game? everyone is guys but there's one girl? is the porn good?
Yes, but most of it is gay porn.
Rando isn’t a good or smart person.
Yeah, but I wish he was. Some jackass from the Salvation Rangers could get through to Buddy, why can't he?
Because Tooley was gay and suicidal.
>being more aggro than Buddy
Chill out, dude.
Lies and also slander.
The frick do you mean slander I have the scars to prove it right here
>implying Buddy would let the husband live
You're deranged.
Wanting a friend doesn't mean you're a homosexual or suicidal.
Tooley was at the Beehive in Painful as a customer. He’s gay.
If she wears a dress she's a girl moron, didn't your mom teach you anything??? Anyway, I dunno why you're so hung up on this. All I am saying is that if he could convince Buddy to chill out and maybe consider just making some friends why couldn't Rando? No way Rando is THAT stupid. He was a warlord for Pete's sake.
Because Rando wanted to use Buddy repopulate the world, and Buddy decided she didn’t want to be used or controlled by anyone ever again. As for being a Warlord, I’m not even sure how he became one in the first place when he can barely even talk.
Did Rando still want to do that even after Brad? It seemed like he really just wanted to go hide away with Buddy and give her a chance at a life away from the fighting.
>Buddy.
>I know we just met.
>But, I want peace. I want growth.
>I'm sick of seeing blood.
>Do you understand that without women, we humans will all die out?
>I want to fix this world and only you can do it.
>But you'll need help.
>I need you to trust me on this.
I guess they're both stupid.
Every Armstrong is just an incredible dumbass, and more dense than a black hole,
It's worse than that, since both of them aren't even Armstrong's by blood. Just KNOWING Brad made them worse. Same with Lisa and Buzzo.
In fairness Yado guaranteed that Buddy's take-over would fail. If it wasn't for the mutants the warlords were holding back it might not have been total game over.
The internet was a mistake. Maybe if he had someone close to him who could have convinced him to just, stay away, while he processed his dads death. But actively posting about your heavily emotional and confused feelings to a bunch of sadistic strangers was a bad move.
Buddy’s son is probably going to have a terrible life.
Brad, Lisa, and just about everyone associated with them could’ve done things differently to get a better outcome, but their upbringings resulted in them making terrible choices down the line.
How am I more aggro than Buddy?
Why did Garth and Roger turn against Brad? If the Rando Army got Buddy, and it resulted in more women being born, wouldn’t that be a bad thing for their businesses that exist because there are no women?
Everyone in Olathe suffers from a room temperature IQ.
The greatest sin of the Definitive Edition was not adding more party members.
The good ending.
Then Brad would start going nuts because of the Joy, and start killing his army along side the Rando Army.
The Gooder Ending
I restarted the russian roulette shtick multiple times so I could have them all
I haven't actually played Lisa since Joyful released. It got some update right? Is it worth replaying?
Definite Edition features some new content and balancing changes.
shame about what happened to austen
Who the hell is austen?
my made up internet friend.
oops
Ligma Balls.
Is there any video game character who can outedge Punished Buddy?
She really isn't THAT edgy. She at least has a reason to be killing people. Plenty of morbid games with far worse characters edge-wise. Fricking Wolf from Darkwood is just flat out disgusting by the end of the game.
Not Important
Shadow the Edgehog
Jeffrey Cuddletrousers
Oh Good God.
That’s fricked up
What the actual frick was that piece of shit?...
It’s Mrs. Armstrong, either supernaturally or metaphorically, watching over Buddy.
The cycle is broken, now true healing can begin.
Please feed her.
wheres the version where the world is filled with all women and 1 shota
The story just wouldn’t work if that was the case.
Shitty romance novels and fujoshit fanart would be currency, cmon now.
Don’t know about the others, but I think an obvious change would be to change the Salvation Rangers into a Sailor Moon parody instead of a Power Rangers parody.
I think my version of a gender swapped Lisa that changes things up enough to set it apart from the original, but keeps the most important stuff the same, was a fic called Little Sun. Got cancelled though.
May I see it?
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357283/1/Little-Sun
Thank you.
>Mama Brad finds out the "Women's Hair Club" has the last boy on earth and they're whoring him out
>Along the way over she keeps hearing how the boy is "Ugly but hung" and "Fricks like an animal"
>She finally gets to where they're keeping him
>It's just a donkey in a dark room
>All women apocalypse
>Survivors live for booze, Joy and vibrators
>Instead of mags being currency, it's batteries
>live footage of MaleBuddy escaping from his mom’s basement
A little girl getting threatened with rape by adult men is a nightmare.
A little boy getting threatened with rape by adult women is a fantasy.
what if it was all men and 1 shota
World dies.
There were several shotas that Brad set on fire.
Berny tries to calm down Lisa during a panic attack
Is this the correct placement for all the Lisa characters?
Beltboy should be just a bit further right.
Why are Tibby Dobbs and Jimmy so close together?
Who's on the top left?
Lily Velez from House of Velez
who's the knight and why does he take an entire row?
Grimm from Black Souls. It’s because a lot of his choices are player dependent.
I don’t think anyone here agrees with you on the gameplay.
What kind of mom will Buddy be like?
She’s probably going to make a lot of the same mistakes Brad made with her.
I love this game, and I love everyone in this thread that played it.
Thank you!
God bless. I hope that Austen has come to terms with the fact that he created masculinity kino
He seems to have calmed down from his mental breakdown.
I only played the original Painful and Joyful.
This conversation is kino, I like seeing how the party members view Brad's behavior.
I like the event with Bo trying to play Henry’s song.
I can’t believe they kept in the fact that you can kill Jim Sterling.
What’s the best song in the game, and why is it Boy Oh Boy?
Joyful could've been a prequel where we played as Rando as he rised in ranks as a warlord. We could encounter established characters through out the game and new ones in the form of the bosses from Joyful.
Leaving Painful as a cliffhanger sounds worse to me, and Austin already promised it’d be a campaign about Buddy as the main character.
10k?
I don't think Austin even wanted to make Joyful, you can see really see it on how much he reuses sprites and how lazy the writing gets.
It’s a big shame. Maybe he could’ve delayed it for a year or two, since Joyful came out in less than a year after Painful.
I sincerely dont care what Austins intended ending is. The joyful doesnt exist and this is the canon ending of the painful. Its the only version of the story thats even remotely compelling by the end
>abused child turned abuser
>overbearing overprotective father figure who fricked everything up
>finally makes the decision to give all of himself to protecting his surrogate daughter and friends
>always taking the most painful path forward, not by circumstance but by choice, and always moving forward in the ultimate display of the unwavering human spirit
its not even a happy end, but its heroic and contrasts brilliantly with how shitty the rest of the game wants to be
Why did he cry?
Rage cared about Brad as a friend, like a lot of the earlier party members that Brad gets to join him. He was either playing the heel so Brad wouldn’t hold back, or he was being honest and felt like shit about it.
Favorite joy mutant? Fangames included.
Beltboy after a fangame gave him a moveset.
?t=3714
Cooper, since I like how goofy he looks, and he’s a reference to The Enigma of Amigara Fault.
Dance Dance Revolution... Dance Dance Revolution...
Both versions of Heart.
Are you talking about the old sprite?
Yeah. Both the new and old one for different reasons.
What's your reason for liking the old one? I thought it was universally agreed to be really bad.
OG Heart feels like it better accomplishes the idea of Hart just because some pitiful freak screaming out for somebody, anybody to just love him.
>You play as this boomer doomer who's a junkie and gets talked to like a cuck
Yeah no can't do this. Same shit happened with that commie game that's like a visual novel
Brad is objectively in the right throughout the game, and Joyful continues to prove him right.
Realistically, Alex would be dead in less than a second after this.
Who would win actually? Assuming they both have endgame stats, and none of Brad's arms are cut off
Brad easily
Brad has a lot more going in his favor, Alex wasn't even that good at martial arts in the beginning.
Brad since he's actually trained in a martial arts style compared to Alex who just trained off of one video tape and is slowly remembering how to do that stuff after years
?si=ZSl8KfqWqGvF7Ijq
I love how Shocklord was based on a real WCW wrestler.
Same pose and everything
It's amazing just how great Lisa's world is
It's a world of men with no purpose just finding ways to pass the time. If it wasn't for all the violence and mutated monsters it would actually be quite comfy.
BUZZO DID NOTHING WRONG
he simped
How did Austin (le cuck) create such a compelling vidya gaem and world?
Genuinely, I don't understand how it was done, nor how it can be replicated.
So did Buddy frick Joy Brad or something?
Yes, gotta continue the Armstrong way.
BIG LINCOLN SENDS YOU TO HELL
